    Potato soup, amazing!
    Elizabeth G.

I'm new to Jackson, originally from Los Angeles California, and my bestie brought me here for some delicious home style, hearty cooking. I must say that EVERYTHING we had was absolutely delicious! I wish I would have tried more but all of their food looks delicious, smells great, and the presentation is clean and food temperature as expected. I will definitely visit again and I might just have them cater my wedding

Great food and atmosphere. Only reason it gets four instead of five is because the server had no personality. My husband and I have the buffalo chicken salad. It was awesome and we took about half with us. My brother-in-law had the hot brown and potato soup and my sister-in-law has a BLT with fries. Everyone said the food was awesome! Definitely come here if you get an opportunity.

Southern Fried Catfish, Fries and Mac & Cheese....YUMMY!!!

Seriously GREAT food!! This restaurant quickly became one of my favorites! Every meal I have tried has been spot on! Their Southern Fried Catfish is perfect paired with their creamy homemade Mac & Cheese! Their Chicken Salad Sandwiches are addictive! And their desserts.....I don't even have adequate words to describe their yumminess!!! The restaurant is clean and welcoming! Try it...I love to say "I told you so!"

Cajun catfish with French fries and macaroni and cheese! And the only drink to have with this meal, sweet tea!

I've been here several times now and I haven't been disappointed yet. This past time I had the Cajun catfish with French fries and macaroni and cheese. It was all very good, and to make it even better, they have a great staff who is happy to help with anything you might need. But before you leave, you MUST get dessert! Their derby pie and blondie are some of my favorites!

We will never waste our money here again. Service was awful, appetizer burned, both duck and steak were overcooked. My meal was supposed to come with asparagus that was no where to found. When I inquired about the side, I was told that the asparagus was ground up in the half dollar size polenta cake. SERIOUSLY?? Duck portion was less than 4 ounces (mostly fat). . $45 for a tiny filet. These folks are trying to play at being a real restaurant when all they're really doing is robbing people blind with sub par food and service. One person covering 5 (yes, 5 WHOLE tables). Even on an incredibly slow night service was awful. I don't know about anybody else out there, but I don't have $200 to throw away on BS restaurants. Especially disappointing on your anniversary. Let we not forget the wines, no brands listed, that tasted like watered down crap. The only reason their Facebook says 100% recommended is because they delete any reviews that say otherwise, Trust me and skip this one. Go to Carsons, Corto Limo or Guiseppes for amazing food and service. Guess I should have ordered the hamburger. Live and learn.

My husband and I both ordered one. He also got regular fries and I did the sweet potato. The service staff was kind and helpful. I loved the way the restaurant was set up with indoor or outdoor seating. It was clean and fresh. The fries were great. The beer my husband order was nice and cold and refreshing. But the burgers, the main part of this meal...we each did a double.....someone doesn't know how to cook smash burgers. They were cooked so hard and dried out. They had flavor but they were so salty and this says a lot. I use a lot of natural salt in my diet every day; this was overkill. But on top of my burger being cooked past well done, the salt put the nail in the coffin. I was really disappointed. A nice juicy smash burger sounded so good, and it wasn't. When ya spend almost $60 for 2 double grass fed beef hamburger and fries and one beer...we expect a better meal. Maybe it was an off day for the cook or maybe this is how they are done all the time. We weren't asked how we wanted them done, which is kind of hard with smash burgers. You need to know how to cook them. If I was to give it a "next time" I'd mention to them how I cook want my meat done. There's a lot of good reviews. Maybe it was just an off day. So consider yourself forewarned if you're looking for a juicy burger.

Bruno's Spotted Hare is fantastic…read more I stopped by recently with a family member while visiting, having heard good initial things about this restaurant. The space is gorgeous; it has the dark coziness of a lodge with beautiful, wild-inspired accents. We were seated in a booth near the window: the booth was comfortable but may be a tight squeeze if two larger adults are sitting on the same side (I'd recommend asking for a table in that case). I started off with an American Trilogy cocktail and loved it; it was surprisingly smooth and easy to drink while being flavorful. We debated appetizer options but went with the sourdough bread and butters. The butters were rosemary, garlic, and sorghum, and while all were great, the sorghum was a favorite. The bread was flavorful and nicely chewy. I'm always happy to see a vegetarian-friendly soup on a menu, so I ordered the beans and greens soup and loved it. It has a very deep flavor, yet the beans weren't overly mushy. The server (who was amazing) recommended some Tabasco for adding heat, which I enjoyed. For entrées, my dining partner got the fried chicken on the server's recommendation, and I got the mushroom pasta. The fried chicken was described by my relative as a crunchy coating with a moist meat; they called it "the best fried chicken" they've had. I tasted the mashed potatoes and can happily vouch for them, as they were creamy and perfectly seasoned. My dining partner raved about the home-style green beans, too. My mushroom pasta was fantastic. The mushrooms were cooked perfectly and were flavorful without being slimy or mushy. The pasta was hearty and cooked al dente. As a pleasant surprise. I got a couple slices of bread with my pasta, too; this time topped with some cheese and seasoning. It was perfect for soaking up the last bits of pasta sauce, as I cleaned my plate. I got dessert to go; it was the cornmeal pound cake and packaged conveniently (with the ice cream separate). It was delicious even at home; the cake itself wasn't too sweet, meaning that the combination of it, the ice cream, and the honey had a perfect balance of flavor. I will try to make a special trip here whenever I'm in the area. It's a beautiful, special addition to the local dining scene.

Rodney's is a genteel bar/eatery in a restored house with an upmarket seafood & steak menu, plus outdoor seating. For our opening course, we tried the Sea Divers Scallops. These were tandoori-rubbed and served with a sweet Thai chili sauce. The scallops had a good sear and a slight crunch, with the tandoori rub offering a mild, earthy kick and a hint of chili powder flavor. The scallop was light and melted in your mouth. The Thai chili sauce added a sweet heat combo that complemented the scallops perfectly. We then shared the Lobster Bisque, which our server recommended. The bisque was very creamy, with a slightly thicker, velvety texture than typical bisques. It was so creamy that it almost tasted like it had cheese in it, which it did not. It had a salty, slightly paprika-spiced flavor, while the sherry added a slight nutty note. This was an excellent dish and worth the drive itself. For my main course, I ordered the Lamb Chops. They were char-grilled with roasted garlic mint demi-glace and the Potato de jur, which is smoked Gouda au gratin. My lamb was spot-on medium-rare; however, the char was a little hard and bitter, especially on the edges. This was present in most bites. The mint sauce added a touch of sweetness and depth to the meat's flavor. The potatoes were cooked through and offered a slight chew. The Gouda was creamy and nutty, pairing well with the potatoes, though it needed a bit more seasoning. My wife chose the Filet for her main course. She ordered it medium rare with Weisenberger white cheddar grits and green peppercorn cream sauce. Her grits were cooked well and not overdone; the cheddar was only topped on the dish and not melted into it, but it did offer a sharp bite. We both found them to be bland and in need of seasoning. The peppercorn sauce was creamy, with the onions adding texture, crunch, and a slight sweetness, while the peppercorns popped with flavor and mild heat. The steak was seasoned and cooked to a perfect medium rare; it melted in your mouth. However, the hard char on the edges added a heavy, bitter flavor to most bites. Rodney's menu features appetizers, soups, salads, prime beef selections, entrees, side dishes, and desserts. They offer a full bar with beer and soda selections. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and will offer suggestions and advice. The Fat Man says that Rodney's on Broadway is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.

Southern Cookhouse features scratch-made dishes using local ingredients, a variety of burgers, pizzas, and classic Southern entrees. I started with the Chicken & Sausage Gumbo because I love soup and all soup-adjacent things. The gumbo had a good, rich flavor from the roux, with subtle heat and a sweet finish. The chicken had a nice flavor, a little saltiness, and it was tender. The Andouille sausage was cooked well and rounded out the flavor profile. The tomatoes and scallions added brightness and crunch. The rice had a few hard pieces, but overall it was good. I do want to mention that I did find a few chicken bones in the dish, just so people are aware. My wife tried the Dunwoody Cobb, made with Grilled chicken breast, boiled eggs, bacon, avocado, tomato, and blue cheese crumbles, with spring mix tossed in Dijon vinaigrette. The lettuce was crunchy and fresh. The bacon had a great salt level, crunch, and crispiness. The avocado added a creamy richness to each bite, while the tomato's acidity cut through the Dijon mustard's sweet and bitter notes. The star of the show was the salty, nutty, creamy blue cheese crumbles, which meshed well with all the other components. The chicken was cooked well and had good flavor, but it was dry. While I avoided it, my wife said the boiled egg was well-cooked and added it to the salad. I had the Nashville Hot chicken, which comes with spicy pickles, coleslaw & mayo on slider rolls with potato salad. The potato salad was mustard-and-mayo-based. The potatoes were soft but still offered some texture. The mustard and mayo balanced each other and added flavor. There were eggs in the potato salad, but they blended into the background and did not stand out. The sweet pickle relish added crunch and texture without being overly sweet. I'm not sure if it was made in-house or from a container; it was good nonetheless. The slider was fresh, soft, and nicely toasted. The slaw was medium-chopped, with a great mayo ratio and a good sweetness, tasting fresh, crunchy, and creamy without being so rich as to drown out the vegetables or the chicken. The pickle was not spicy, but a thick-cut bread-and-butter type with a little sweetness and a velvety, buttery flavor. The chicken was juicy, tender, and cooked well. The Nashville-style spices were mild to medium, just enough to know it was there but not so overpowering that it was all you tasted. It was not overly oily either, which often plagues sandwiches of this type. The entire sandwich worked well together. Southern Cookhouse has a full menu, but some items do rotate or are seasonal. The bar is fully stocked, offering draft beer, tea, and soft drinks. They offer counter ordering, and the staff is very friendly. The Fat Man says that Southern Cookhouse & Bar is Fat Man Approved with 2 chins.
