We have been to this location twice now, and the services provided are outstanding. We have worked with Selena both times to give our golden retriever a bath and groom. Selena is extremely polite and friendly toward animals. Our Rose has come back to us happy, and smelling wonderful, with extremely soft fur. Selena clearly cares about the animals that she works with and she did a phenomenal job with the groom. Selena works with clients to ensure the best care for their animals. I stopped in to get a nail trim for my pupper. They were easily able to get me in and were very sweet to my baby. Very affordable prices and gives me a peace of mind so that I don't have to trim her nails. She has black nails so it always makes me anxious. I rate this specific location a 5/5 but beware of the other location! The Waterford location is wonderful but if you want to hear about our terrible experience at the other location read on... I had made an appointment at the other location, showed up for an appointment and not only did they not have her appointment in the system, but it was MY fault that it wasn't there because I didn't follow up after making my appointment over the phone to confirm they had written in their calendar. The manager made 0 effort to help our situation and was not sympathetic and instead was annoyed by us. LUCKILY the Waterford location is operated separately and the manager of that location apologized profusely and squeezed out dog in that day. read more

Do not take your loving pet here I called on a Friday on New Years weekend to bring my dog, they said yes can you bring her Saturday 9am, when the groomer finally decided to greet us in the waiting area she kept on touching my dogs fur and suggesting stuff for me to get cause she said her fur was matted and probably need extra care, mind you I've never heard any other groomer referring to my dog's fur as matted or difficult, she not once was nice to my dog. you know vets and people that work with animals are cheerful and happy to see your pet not this woman she was dry and no matter how much I smiled and told her how sweet my dog is and how I've groomed her myself before and she's a good doggie she not once was nice I kept telling her please do not cage my dog for long she's not used to that also do not put cologne on my dog, I had a bad feeling but I really wanted my dog to be all clean and pretty for new years and it was her first grooming here in VA since we moved here from Miami two months ago. I asked how long will it take she said 2-3 hours I said ok so it's 9am so about noon right? She said yes, I had things to do that afternoon so it was important for me to pick her up by noon and also cause they have a late pick up extra charge, when I called at noon to check up on my dog they told me it was going to be another two hours and she was running behind and so I said to the receptionist what has been done to my dog so far she said nothing so you've had my dog caged for 3 hours even though we had an appointment she said call in about one hour or so. I called right back cause I wanted to go pick her up she said I'm how long can you be here I said in 5 minutes. Well she ran to the groomer I'm guessing to start on my dog and so I will have to wait for her to get be done, when I arrived I waited for my dog for about 25 minutes only for the groomer to tell me that they will changer me for half of the service cause the dog had already had been bathe and half way done, so she said I'll give her back to you damp and no hair cut, so what option do I have but to let her finished her, told me come back in 1 hour and half, my husband and I took a drive and came back an hour and half later to find my dog submerged in cologned super happy to be out of there, when I called they said would be around $60 we paid $120 cause of the spa treatment supposedly that my dog needed for her matting fur which BS cause I've never in 13 years had anyone said my dog has matted fur. These people DO NOT LOVE ANIMALS! that's my biggest complaint besides being ridiculous expensive they charge a 3% more for the use of a credit card! My dog didn't want to eat after and was very afraid of my neighbors that visit that day and I wouldn't doubt my dog was smacked or abused. I also had to give her an extra bath that same day to remove some of the cologne she put in my dog and still after 3 days I can still smell cologne on her.. if you love your dog do not take it here.. P.S the groomer was Kara or Tara can't really remember her name and I think she's the owner.. read more

BEWARE! Used Bows & Bones for the first time on 8/10/23 for Charlie, my 14 yo Border Collie mix. Charlie walked into the shop in Waterford under his own power. When I picked him up 4 hours later, he could not walk - not limping, literally could no longer stand nor walk. The receptionist brought him out on his leash by dragging him across the floor. We were not offered an explanation. No apologies nor show of concern. The groomer, Selena, did not come out to talk with us. My husband had to carry Charlie to the car. Two vet visits, UrgentVet that night and regular vet next afternoon (costing $700+), because Charlie was still not walking nor eating/drinking and the consensus of the vets is spinal and possible neurological damage. I'll never know what happened to Charlie during those 4 hours at Bows & Bones. I do know that 3 hours into the groom I received a phone call from Selena. She was exasperated and angry because Charlie would not cooperate and kept lying down. I was told that she would finish his cut the best she could but Charlie was not welcome to come back AND she was charging me extra(!) because the groom was taking longer than normal. *Please* think carefully before you leave your dog in the care of a groomer who can't tell the difference between an uncooperative dog and a dog in severe pain and distress. read more

We are so glad there is a location in Brandermill! Very convenient. The team took great care of our babies today. Everyone knows dachshunds are stubborn and mine definitely fit the stereotype. They both got a nice bath and cleaning and my long haired doxie got a trim. They respected our wishes and just cleaned up problem areas without taking too much off. They look wonderful! I am extremely disappointed with my service from Bows and Bones Waterford location today! I had an initial puppy visit with them in December 2023. Since it was her first appt they don't do a full cut, so I scheduled another visit in two weeks for a full service (1/13/2024). I arrived today for that service to be told I didn't have an appt. I even showed the receptionist my text confirmation. When she looked back in the computer it was discovered they scheduled me for 1/13.....2023!!! Please explain how you schedule someone for an appt in the past? The receptionist showed no concern, or compassion for the situation. She just went to the back and asked if anyone could fit my pup in, and pretty much came back with I have to reschedule... I had planned my entire day around that appt, and was trying to get it in before my fur baby is spayed on Monday. No apologies... just reschedule. No additional solutions, or offers for their mistake. Therefore, I said so my next service is on you all then correct.... Nope, she looked at me annoyed, and said I can give you a discount. At which I asked how much and she said 10%.... That's laughable. I initially did reschedule and then decided, my money is better spent elsewhere if this is how they do business. I was blessed to get fit in at PetSmart, for much better service and half the price. They were booked as well, but fit me in even though it wasn't their mistake... Interesting. And I only needed this appt in the first place due to their policy of not doing a full cut on a puppy for the initial visit (which I do understand that part). What I don't understand is how I was scheduled for a date in the past, and no one seemed to care. I would not suggest anyone give this place their business. And the receptionist could use a lesson in customer service.... At least empathy for THEIR mistake. read more

2nd visit today. We asked for Chris again because he did a GREAT job on our Golden Retriever and Cat last visit. Our GR deals with anxiety. But we could tell by how calm Cooper was coming out he was more relaxed here. Today he took great care of Cooper and our Corgi. Both came out looking and smelling great. He was even able to brush out a big knot that I was sure would have to be shaved behind my furbabies ear. The whole staff is very nice. They are always busy so book ahead for your furbabies!! I have used this company due to convenience and moving to the area within the last year/not knowing where to go and only once have had a good experience. Brief summary of below- My dogs' hair always looked great after their appointments BUT they have injured them, been rude, have poor scheduling skills and, while some groomers try to assist with issues, the business itself does not. First experience - The guy who groomed my dog complained about one of my dogs at pick up saying she was hyper. I think that's rude to say/do but apologize and explain she gets nervous so maybe that's why. I get home and realize that she has blood on her face where he basically cut off a "mole" and didn't tell me. I was pretty irritated but know mistakes happen, especially with "hyper", dogs. I call, and tell the receptionist, she apologizes and says she'll note my dogs chart to not schedule with that groomer again. Second appointment- I remind them of the "mole" and to be careful please. Pick up goes without incident until I get home and realize there are a few blood droplets on my back seat and my dog is licking her nails excessively because they were cut too short. Third experience- I ask for a specific groomer, their nails to be buffed not cut and remind them of the "mole". This time they look great and no issues. Fourth (and final) experience- I had a coupon for services with specific groomers. I called and asked for appointments with those groomers and explained the coupon. The receptionist says no problem and schedules. I go to pay at pickup and see on my receipt they only discounted me for one dog. I ask and she tells me that it is only for specific groomers. I respond saying that I know and that's why when I scheduled I explained the coupon. She isn't too apologetic and tells me there is nothing she can do. I'm pretty irritated at the lack of concern over their mistake and tell the receptionist I won't be back which she replies "Ok" to. The groomer with the coupon overhears this exchange and offers another appt with the discount for one of the dogs next time. I firmly declined and explain the previous issues as well. I get to my car and take another look at my receipt and see they also charged me a $5 extra time fee. Service and pick up were all completed well within the 4 hours they quoted at time of drop off. read more

I've been taking my aussiedoodle here for the past couple years but when we came for our appointment, we were informed that our groomer had left the business so they recommended Selena, ensuring she was "really good" - what a huge mistake. Granted, I was late for our appointment so I asked if they could fit us in if there are any cancellations and they said yes. I gave them a picture of her past groom to go off of and a detailed description of what I wanted specifically - round/bear face, not too short, etc. and explained that there is just a couple of small knots behind her ear - None of which were honored: when I returned to pick her up, I couldn't hide my face in horror- literally THE ABSOLUTE WORST "GROOM" (if you could even call it that)- they cut off her eyelashes, her face is shaved making her look like an old lady, she didn't even trim her beard so she's still having trouble getting the hair out of her mouth, BALD SPOT (?) On her chest, UNEVEN HAIR EVERYWHERE and her butt was untouched, and her pads and ears were untouched. Selena saw my horror and shaved her butt and then explained to me that she didn't get to do some of the spa package so she would give me a free one next time - EXCUSE ME? IM never coming back. Next time, don't charge me and take the appointment if you cannot properly do your job. I just can't believe they'd let any dog walk out of there like that. DONT GO HERE YOUD HAVE A BETTER CHANCE DOING IT YOURSELF 100%. if you still decide to go- Pay and tip AFTER you see your dog SMH. read more

I really like the way they cut my Yorkie-Poo. They do a great job every time I go. Only downside is price and how long it takes - up to three hours and she is 4 lbs. I don't want her sitting in a kennel for extended periods of time. The service and scheduling process is wonderful. read more

I had my Maltese cut down short. It was done very uneven. Asked if she could either grind or clip her nails. She clipped them so short that 2 bled. One of them bled so bad all over my clothes. It took about 45 minutes to stop as I applied light pressure and kept her calm. I was so mad that they caused her pain by cutting the nerve.You would think that an experienced groomer would know where the quick is and not cut so close. I will never go back there. read more
