Let me just say this: I can understand every review given so far. The 5 Star Reviews: I can understand having a great experience. If you have a dog, that is easy to cut, I have no doubt they will do a great job. The 1 Star Reviews: I can understand, having a bad experience, especially for smaller dogs that could be easily traumatized for lack of care. The staff is very young so I also understand lack of maturity in their responses. My 3 star review: The price, location, and friendliness of staff were all exceptional. The cut was better than a Petco/Petsmart haircut and way better priced, but the razor indentations, inconsistencies, and trimming most of his tail (when asked not to) marked this haircut down 2 stars. Overall, I wouldn't mark it down significantly. I believe they deserve a second chance because of the overall young age of the staff and their kindness. read more

This is an unfortunately long and cautionary review. I had been going to Sitting Pretty for several years and was a loyal customer. Yesterday I had an appointment for a groom appointment and was told 30 minutes before it started when I was already on the way that it needed to be rescheduled due to the groomer having an emergency with chickens being delivered to the post office. The owner offered to reschedule for the next day, but I was not available. She then offered for a different groomer to see my dog the same day, which seemed like a great solution. The appointment was for 1 hour. 2 hours after the groom started I came in to collect my dog and she still was not done and needed 30 more minutes. The groomer started off extremely aggressive, telling me I should have expected it to take long since I was being squeezed in. Nobody had told me anything of the sort and I had to take my child to an appointment 30 minutes away. I explained this and she told me that I should have thought about that when "you were told 75 chickens lives were at stake and you said you didn't care".... I said nothing of the sort. I again explained this to the groomer my predicament and said I could come back in an hour after I dropped my child at her appointment but she said she would not stay that long after closing. So I had to either take my dog "as is" (half cut") or stay the 30 minutes and miss my childs appointment. Those were my two options. I tried to ask questions about what was left to be done on the dog which she refused to tell me and was essentially berating me over and over again for bringing my dog in to get groomed in the first place. She was so aggressive and being so rude I had to ask my child to step outside as I did not want her around that kind of behavior. Given all of that, I had no choice but to take my dog half groomed. I did not want her further touching my dog. The groomer then goes to get my dog and is passive aggressively speaking to her saying "you came in full of mats, neglectful owners" kind of crap. I took my dog outside and it honestly looked like drunk elves had taken a clipper to her. She had patches of long hair, patches of shaved hair, no rhyme or reason. She had long paws, a half shaved tail... I cannot describe the level of ridiculousness. And there I am on the street at 6pm with a half shaved dog. I had to make emergency appointments with other groomers to get her finished. To make matters worse, I called the owner in the morning and was told she had never seen that employee behave rudely and she would want to "get both sides of the story". Excuse me? There is no both sides. You left a dog half groomed. You have an employee that spoke belligerently to your customer and accused your customer of trying to kill chickens. This employee needed to be let go and profuse apologies needed to be made to make it right. But none of that was done. Therefore, they have lost me as a customer and we will make sure social media knows this as well. read more

My wife took our beloved poodle to this place and his beautiful coat and ears were chopped to pieces.Someone there does not know how to cut poodles.He was cut way too close down to his skin. The more I look at our beloved friend the more hurt I am and thoroughly upset that we chose this place Please please don't take your pet to this place especially if it's a curly hair doggy.Don't put your pet through the disgrace only for them to tell you the hair was kinky.My dogs hair is soft and you can run your fingers through his coat they lied to my wife.I wash our dog and pet him daily.I know his coat is nothing like they tried telling my wife when she picked our doggy up.First picture is the before and the second is after he was chopped up. read more

We are visiting from NYC and our dog's nail was getting to be pretty long so we figure we might as well do it in Virginia, where we thought it would be cheaper. A nail cut at Pet Smart would be $12-$20 but the place I go to in NYC is $7. I figure it would be around that much or possibly even less if we were lucky. It was $10 at almost every place I called but this place seemed to have one of the highest reviews so we went here. The lady cut our dog's nail too short and he bled a lot. I've cut my dog's nails before and it was like a baby papercut but when we went home, there was blood all over his bed - we were heartbroken! The lady was professional and apologized but we definitely didn't expect that to happen. We have had his nails cut before and they didn't say anything but this time they said his nails have some "spiderwebs" that make his quick seem deceptively long. It's not that I think she's lying or whatever but people seemed to do the job perfectly fine before. We looked and we have never seen his nail be so short before, on any dog, actually. I guess the lady was scared his other nails would bleed too so the other nails were barely clipped... they looked exactly the same. This made us super sad but I guess accidents happen? I have been coming to this business for over a year and although I was never completely satisfied they did a fair enough job. I'd always notice some longer strands around the ears and paws and overall wasn't a quality cut. For the sake of not finding somewhere else I kept coming. Last time I went they tried to overcharge me and did a terrible job grooming my pet. After asking them to fix the cut they acted extremely unprofessional and did it with a terrible attitude. Even after I asked them to redo the cut, it was still bad when I picked my pet up. Overall attitude and job quality was terrible and will not be returning to this business again. read more

I recently got a stray from the pound. Pretty sure he's a Morkie. He was in desperate need of grooming with rats all over his hind end. Every time I got near him with scissors he would snap at me. Well long story short I did eventually get those rats off of him but the snapping was a real problem. To be clear he never did bite me but it was unnerving. Eventually, I took him to petsmart to be groomed and they got half way done and he snapped at them (they told me he bit them but I'm not so sure) and they called me and said they couldn't groom him. So in desperation I called the vet and they said they would do it but it would cost around $160 because of the need for sedation so I thought I'd try a groomer one more time and did a google search for groomers who groom dogs that bite and this place was the first hit. I saw that one negative review but decided all the other positive reviews out weight it. I brought him (even though it's kind of far from were I live) and after we talked about the issue and the owner was handling him she said she felt like it would be no real problem. And guess what? They did it. She said he did snap at her but they ignored it and he didn't actually bite. And she got him all the way groomed. I am over the moon with delight. We both agreed that his behavior was bratty and he obviously got away with it before now. But no more. I will be bringing him back this this groomer from now on. And the price was comparable to petsmart but the service was SO MUCH BETTER! read more

Far from professional grooming. Burned my dog's skin, and red marks from the razor burn. The haircut on his head is uneven and several spots where they missed cutting the hair. $90 for this type of grooming is ridiculous. I will definitely be going elsewhere from now on. read more

Avoid this groomer by all costs. Made an appointment using their online link shown on Google. Had an appointment on Sunday afternoon with groomer Ashley. Sunday comes and my husband got to the shop with our dog in the pouring rain and they were not even open that day. He was beyond mad and I can't blame him. We even got a confirmation email regarding the date and time. This business needs to get their act together because this is absolutely no way to run a business. After deep diving into their older reviews on Google, buried underneath a bunch of 5 star reviews which I question are real, we found out that this "salon" allows the dogs that are there to be groomed to just wander around the shop with all the other dogs. WTF? They ask for rabies certificate but what about checking for parvo vacs or bordetella if they are just going to let the dogs roam? Not to mention one reviewer said they never even asked to see their rabies certificate. After finding this out, I'm glad that they never handled my dogs. read more

I'm always a bit nervous when it comes to taking my yorkie to a groomer as we did not have a great experience the last time we did. However today's experience was wonderful, Farrah and her staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Farrah took her time to walk an indecisive dog parent through various grooming options. Once we decided on one I left and returned about an hour and half later to find a well groomed, very happy and even more adorable yorkie. Fantastic customer service!! My dog is very dog aggressive, extremely anxious, and doesn't like men. I've had trouble in the past with groomers not listening to me and putting her and other dogs in danger. Surprisingly, she didn't seem hostile towards Ryan at all, and they made sure to keep her distant from other dogs. She was done with her bath and nail trim in under two hours, and came back looking amazing. I have found a new groomer!!!! I randomly stumbled upon Sitting Pretty while out at an event in Stony Point a couple of weeks ago and decided to go in and get some information. I explained that my dog has some behavioral issues and is very anxious at times. Farrah advised that would not be an issue because she often works with dogs with behavioral issues so I decided to book an appointment. I must say I am very pleased with her services. I've had several issues with groomers at the big chain stores and never left satisfied like I was with Farrah and her team. My dog looked so adorable and they even said he behaved well. After yet another last minute cancellation by the big chain grooming salon that I have taken my dog to for 6 years, I found myself searching the web late last night trying to find a place that could possibly squeeze my dog in today. He needs regular grooming (every 6 weeks) and it had been four months since his last groom because of continued issues with the chain groomer, so Colby was in desperate need! I came across Sitting Pretty RVA, and sent a request for a quote at 10:30 PM Saturday night. I received a reply email from the owner, Farrah, within 5mins and she scheduled an appointment for today at 1:00. When I walked in to the salon today, I was immediately impressed with how clean and well kept the salon was. It had a very warm and welcoming feel, not the institutional feel you get at the chains. I was greeted by Farrah who asked how I wanted Colby groomed and cut. I explain to her what I was used to having him get, but also asked for her recommendations. She described to me what she usually did with a dog of Colby's breed, and I told her to please use her best judgment. When I went back to pick him up, I was extremely pleased! First, he was walking around the salon with Farrah and Bonnie, not still chained to a table. Most importantly, he looked fantastic! I have never seen Colby look as great as he did. I could also tell by his temperament that Farrah and Bonnie had taken great care of him while he was there. I have definitely found my new groomer! I highly recommend Sitting Pretty RVA! read more
