Let me preface this by saying that I hate having to call out for repair. I'm an engineer with a…read morebackground in general engineering so as a matter of professional pride (and affordability, and fun) I do most of my own home improvement, appliance repair, and some of my auto work. Granite, though, has the distinct quality of being dangerously heavy and somewhat delicate, so when the seam between granite pieces on my center island started to split, I knew i needed to call in a pro. The folks at Epic stone couldn't have been more professional. They gave me a no pressure quote over the phone and got me in within a week. I ended up having them fix the seam and drill a hole in the counter for a garbage disposal air switch. The gentleman they sent out had the rare combination of being extremely detail oriented and fun to talk to. He took his time blending different epoxy colors to make the new seam as unnoticeable as possible (and did a far better job than the builders did on the original seam). When he was done, he had me inspect his work and showed me everywhere the stone was slightly uneven around the seam (caused by house settling or original installation issues); fortunately they were very minor. He also offered to buff a corner of the slab that had chipped over the years free of charge. Like I said, I don't enjoy calling out for repair, but I wouldn't hesitate to have epic stone back the next time I need something.

In this pre-fab world of cabinets from places like Home Depot, his work is so beyond that level, it's like comparing a Buick to a Bentley. Both will do the job, but which one would you rather ride in? All that said, his prices are not at all unreasonable and I could have never have found pre-mades that would have fit into my small space so seamlessly. I can recommend Woodman's work without a single reservation. And the cherry on top is that he is also a very nice man and so easy to work with that the entire experience was a total joy.

I've been trying my best to avoid corporate stores, and support local. But This place and Brisco's are making it very difficult. When I arrived, one worker (hired 4 days ago) commented to the other how customers always come rolling in 30 min before closing. As I had just discovered this Lumber Yard this morning, I was one of them. After wandering the yard, looking for the materials for my project, I came back into the sales office. There was another customer asking about solar tubes, and the salesmen were unable to help. This I understand. These guys may be knowledgable in some areas, but not all. But they completely shut this customer down. When he said he'd just go to Miner's, their response was, "Yes, please! I'd love for you to go to Miner's!". After the customer had left, they both kept discussing how frustrating this customer was. That was all I needed to hear to know I don't need to support this local business. I'm not looking to have my butt kissed from the time I walk in, just a bit more courtesy than these guys were displaying. As I walked out, I commented, "Customers are SUCH a pain in the ass, huh?!" True to form, both sales staff answered enthusiastically YES! As I'm a contractor, picking up more and more local projects, I was hoping to find a good lumber yard to do business with. Guess I'll keep looking.
