If you are visiting Buffalo, Wyoming, staying at the Historic Occidental Hotel is an absolute must…read more The moment you walk through the doors, it honestly feels like stepping back into the Old West. The hotel is beautifully preserved with so much authentic character, history, and charm everywhere you look. We loved exploring the historic saloon, antique decor, creaky wooden floors, and all the incredible stories connected to the hotel. It was amazing knowing legends like Buffalo Bill Cody, Calamity Jane, Teddy Roosevelt, Butch Cassidy, and the Sundance Kid all spent time here. You can truly feel the history throughout the building. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and passionate about the hotel's history, which made the experience even better. The atmosphere was cozy, unique, and unlike any modern hotel experience. We also really enjoyed walking around downtown Buffalo since the hotel is perfectly located right in the heart of town. If you love history, road trips, Western culture, or unique travel experiences, this place is unforgettable. The Historic Occidental Hotel is more than just a hotel -- it's a true Wyoming experience and one of the coolest historic places we've ever visited. Highly recommend! We sat at the bar for 18 minutes before anyone spoke to us. The couple that came in after us and…read moresat at a table was helped before us. The bartender never acknowledged us. We had to get our own menu. Three more employees came by and finally one waited on us. We ordered wings and it took forever to get them. The waitress flung them in front of us and said "here's your wings". No plates, no napkins. There were probably not even 1 pound of wings in the basket. The menu said 2 pounds. No one ever came to see how our food was or if we needed anything else, like another drink. We had to ask to get napkins and that seemed to be a chore for her. After finishing our food, the bartender walked by three times looking at the empty basket but never asking if we needed anything or taking the basket away. We finally got his attention, which wasn't easy, to get our ticket.

Pleasantly surprised with the food. The sirloin was…read more"excellent." The Brisket was so good it didn't need bread or bbq sauce. The vegetables seemed fresh and tasted great as well. We will DEFINITELY be back!! The atmosphere was great, friendly staff and great cabin decor. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Newly opened, I went with my Mother in Law who was pleased to see this local lodge back opened…read more Our party was 3 adults and 2 children for an afternoon lunch. Service was excellent. Decor is lodge style with heavy furniture. My wife had the steak sandwich with Chimi churri sauce. Served on a soft roll with fries. The meat was a bit tough and had not been seasoned well. Pretty heavy on the grease, and light on the Chimi churri. I had the Dearhaven Burger, which was thick, and well flavored. A dijon.mayo sauce was good and not overpowering. Swiss cheese, mushrooms and onions. Very light on the mushrooms as I couldn't find them until I pulled back the cheese a bit. Kids burgers were big and good. Probably could have shared one kids burger between my 4 and 6 year old. The fries were EXCELLENT. Looks as though they are using the Chimi Churri on the fries...it worked well. Don't let the 3 stars make you discount the place. I will be back as I like local joints and the food was good for the area. Being from the SF Bay Area we get spoiled with our dining options.
