Lady at front desk was upfront racist, I spoke in perfect english and she told me " No habla español, I dont know what you are saying" I know she might be old but she had no reason to say that. The guy came after saying "Her hearing is a little off" and said to me " you might owe him some tacos" about my friend for paying for my lane as I didnt have cash on me only card. Happiness is a warm gun! This place is a nice range, with lots of different places to shoot yer guns off. They've got areas for skeet shooting, pistols, rifles- you name it. They set you up based on what you're shooting with some targets set up. We had fresh targets on the range, and the place was nearly deserted when we went on a weekday afternoon. They charge per gun, instead of per hour or other ways that other ranges apparently charge. They offer a covered range, with a low-hanging roof that shades shooters from sun and rain. It seemed pretty reasonable for the rate charged. The prices are clearly displayed. They have gun wound kits on each range, in case something goes wrong. This place seems to enforce the rules pretty intensely. No alcohol! There's signs everywhere letting you know that they're firmly behind the Second Amendment, and warning signs not to rob the place. (Who'd seriously rob a gun range?) The road in here isn't clearly marked, and it looks like a mud slide full of potholes and speed bumps in the rain. Uggh. They could grade some of that road in better. I wouldn't go in a freshly washed car. read more

I tried this range out for the first time since it was not closer to home today. I locked and loaded then proceeded to pay for my training for the day, the cashier did not accept card and advised me that they only accepted cash. Luckily my buddy had cash on his person or else we wouldn't have been able to shoot. I proceeded to the hand gun section of the range which was a nice set up l (I'll give them that.) After we finished shooting our pistols we proceeded to the rifle part of the range. I observed that the last target (#8) had a target to its left, so I assumed that the targets were on the left side of the number. I also observed there to be two #7 targets.... however I proceeded to shoot the target that was left of my number... at some point, my buddy missed the target and shot another target.... one of the employees (an elderly female) approached us and advised us that we shot two separate targets. Initially I apologized and agreed to pay for the targets I shot. Then the woman advised me that I had been shooting the wrong target the whole time and would have to pay for 3 separate targets....(the one we were shooting, the one we accidentally shot, and the one we were "supposed to be shooting.") I advised her that the set up was confusing as the targets were to the left of the number from the right side & there were 2 number 7 targets... even though I explained my reasoning respectfully, the woman proceeded to belittle us by explaining that the targets are to the right of the target "it's how you read, left to right...I was a second grade teacher" (as if I didn't know how to read). Needless to say I will not be returning due to the condescending treatment by the employee. I am an avid shooter and was planning to return often due to how close this location is to my home, but I'd rather take the extra 10 minutes to go to lone star. read more

Went again last week for the first time in a couple of years. The price is right as I paid $14 total for two hand guns and two people. The issue I have is with the height of the roof over the firing position - it is way too low for those about 5'10" and over. Bracken Rifle & Pistol Range is a pleasant place to spend an afternoon blowing targets to bits and amusing yourself with big guns. (And I'm not referring to my rock solid biceps.) My husband & I went there this Saturday and I was amused because: a) they check you in when they are darn right ready and not one second before, b) the place is plastered with a superfluous amount of political posters and "buzz off" signage, c) despite this, Bracken is family owned, well controlled and pretty welcoming, and, d) well, I got to shoot a big gun, which was pretty amusing in and of itself. The range has plenty of areas to shoot, from a 7 yard pistol range to a 100 yard rifle range, as well as a shotgun shooting area. All rifle stations are covered and out of the sun, which is great for hot days. Bracken also offers individual coaching and a concealed carry class. They do try to collect stray brass under the premise of cleaning it up so people won't fall, so be sure to put it into your own bag if you want to reload your bullets. At Bracken, you pay per gun, so we got a 15 yard range for $7, which is pretty darn inexpensive. I guess it could add up if you bring a lot of guns, but for one or two, you can get a pretty good price. Overall, Bracken is the best place we have found here in SA to shoot. Nice range facilities. But staff is always grumpy, and not very friendly. Seems like they're always irritated with customers. Today, went to the range to sign in a new rifle for a relative. And they had a new sign up about no steel-cased ammo. WHAT? Some of the most popular and inexpensive rifle and pistol ammo. VERY commonly used for practice and familiarization. But this range won't allow it. Probably because they don't want to spend the time sorting it out from the brass they collect and sell for extra $$. Oh well - we left and took our business elsewhere. And won't go back with those kinds of restrictions! Even though they're the closest range - I'll go farther to get friendly service and no unreasonable restrictions. read more

I love this gun range. Whenever I go to San Antonio I always stop in here with my family friends to fire off a few (okay hundreds) of rounds. The owners are really nice, I like that they don't put up with crap in there though. If someone is not following the rules or is acting like a sloppy gun holder, they always keep them in check. That leads to another love of this place, people watching. It draws just about every type of gun enthusiast - the homey with his hand turned sideways with the glock, the guy that just waltzed out of the sporting good store in full camo, the ever-loved hipster/survivalists, and just average joes. Make sure to get there in the morning and there should be no wait - you can shoot for as long as you want for a cheap rate - but this makes the wait long if you go in the afternoon and all the stations are full. read more

I really love this range. The first time I went some years back, I had a new scope mounted and the owners wife was kind enough to help me out. I love that the rifle range is covered with separate isles and they provide pretty much anything you need, but I always bring my own. Most ranges in my area round Bandera and Kerrville just have cheap tables and uncovered spaces so your neighbor feels like he's right on top of you, so why pay for that, I can just shoot in my backyard lol As for the "Personality" round there, they keep it straight and professional. But I'm just there to sight in rifles folks, not make friends. Then again, I never have problems gettin along with others like some seem to when something rubs em the wrong way they have a little fit and cry about the "service" of the person who "hurt their feelings" lol sorry, that always makes me laugh. This is a GREAT place if you have a few pistols and lots of people that are coming with you, for example I brought two guns and my family of four and they just charged me 14$ for the two guns . They provide hearing protection !! No AMMO provided. Great place to break in your rifles !! They have 1) 25 yd a few 50yd and 100yd lanes. After reading a couple of the sour reviews I thought I would leave a review. I love this place. I have been to most others in town and have been shooting well over 30 years on a regular basis. With the amount of newbies and inexperienced folks at ranges today I appreciate the range master and their rules. I trust my skills but can't be naive enough to expect the person next to me to be safe so we need a range master. A simple Google of accidental range shootings makes it easy for me to be ok with a few rules. Besides it's only the newbies who get hollared at and it's to keep all of us safe! I've been going to this place since I was a kid, probably about 10 or 11 years old. I still go occasionally because it is probably the closest range to where I live. I'm 38 years old now and this place continues to disappoint for the last 28 years straight. Absolute worst staff I've experienced at ANY business open to the public, and I don't just mean shooting ranges. I see at least one person pick up their stuff and leave in the first five minutes after they pay almost every time I go. Truly a lesson in how not to run a business. They manage to stay open by never repairing or upgrading anything and selling your spent brass at high prices. read more

The place is simple, well run, reasonably priced, and the staff hold the line when it comes to safety. I come here for the pistol range. They provide hearing muffs for use when they are available which is a huge plus. Another reviewer complained about not being able to keep his brass. I have never had an issue with packing out my own spent brass which my daughter uses for artwork. This place isnt bad, it just could be a lot better. First, their price model leaves a lot to be desired. I can understand paying for a target/lane. They go a step further and make you pay PER GUN. $4 per target, $4 per gun. Example: You bring a Sig 226, Glock 27, and a S&W Revolver. You want a single lane. You're gonna pay $4+4+4+4= $16. Bring a .22 rifle and you just spent another $8 for the gun and another target. So what you get is people that bring a single pistol and bring 8 of their friends to shoot it. You get a jam packed range. As another Yelper said, the moron riding around in the golf cart drives me nuts. He was changing the targets (a rare moment), walks towards me and looks me dead into the eye, then proceeds to slam into me throwing the targets at me. He then proceeds to scream, "Sir, what are you doing standing here?" I think he might have a screw loose. If he doesn't own the place, they need to get rid of him. My new favorite shooting range and my future site for training on the east side! Friendly folks, clean and safe 7 yard range, separate shooting booths , plenty of room to instruct. Waited only about 40 minutes on noon on Saturday, not bad since for the weekend. Love the booths, screened dividers, no getting pinged with your neighbor's ejected cases! I actually enjoyed this range. I liked that it was covered because it was pretty warm the day we went and it would have been pretty miserable in the sun. The prices are reasonable and you pay per weapon you are going to use. When we showed up there was a lot of people there so we started with Rifles. There are 2 different distances for rifle shooting. The owner knew we wanted to also shoot on the pistol side and he was nice enough to hold 2 booths for our group for a little bit so we could move right on over there and let someone else have our rifle spots. The owners are very straight forward people and are just trying to make sure people are being safe. Yes, there are nicer and better places to go, but this place is great to get some practice in. I know it is hard to understand my next statement, but this range is so peaceful. I Love going every day they are open, and as a matter of fact, I have been every day since last Friday. The individuals that run the range treat me with a family kind of friendship that you just don't get to many places in the world. The range is run with professionalism, attention to detail, and most of all, the safety of everyone that attends. You can do your CCL, as well as find people that are willing to let you use tools, as well as there personal shooting scopes, and at times, they have even asked if I would like to fire the weapon they are using. I take my grandchildren to teach them safety first, and how to properly handle as well as fire a pistol, rifle,as well as a shotgun. You will feel safe, as well as at home at this family oriented range. Price is reasonable and the people were friendly. You are charged per weapon that you plan on firing. Went here the first time on Saturday. I had no data connection so I couldn't check in. This would be the only negative point. We paid $17 for five people with three guns. In general I would have been out at least fifty bucks. It is outdoors but I don't see a problem with it. You need to wear hearing protection when you get out of the car. I went to the range to try out my new S&W MP40 Compact preparing for my LTC course tomorrow. The gentleman at the window greeted me and I informed him what I needed. The range I needed was being used but he pointed out the available tables under cover. I took one of them. The man was professional and courteous during our interaction. Mutual RESPECT goes a long way. It was a great experience and I will definitely used for all my future needs. Pistol range garbage, rifle range is trash, don't get me started on shotgun or entrance! The fee went up, but at dietz it's per person not gun. It's worth 20 miles. Bracken is a good place to go to shoot. It's close to us. I do prefer shooting at the paper that they provide versus targets. I've been there 3 times. The only complaint I have is the tall old man. Every time I have been there he is just down right RUDE, for no reason. You ask a question and he never has a nice way of answering you. He's been rude to me, my husband and now my son. I won't be back. I will go to Lonestar, where they are always polite or I'll go to an indoor range. read more

Horrible experience. Male owner was standing there while my sister attempted to ask him a simple question upon whether we were could or could not keep the target. He just stood there ignoring her then attempted to walk away but indefinitely ended up almost running her over. He continued walking away. When he walked back my father attempt to regain his attention by touching him and he flipped like Lebron James and exclaimed that my father should not touch him when walking on the firing range. After a brief dispute upon whether we could keep the target he attempted to walk away but my sister was scratching her body and her elbow touched him and he once again did a Lebron James flop. I do not recommend nor wish anyone to come to this range. Go somewhere else. Bullet hole. A Place To Shoot. But avoid this place at all costs. You will be disrespected and most likely in the same situation that I am in. read more
