The Tactical Safety Institute is awesome!!! I took my training for the license to carry a handgun in Texas at the Tactical Safety Insitute on 18 November. This course and the instructors at Tactical Safety were excellent! A big surprise, as I have friends who have taken the same class established by the State of Texas, with other providers in the area, all complaining about how dry the material was presented. Over the past three decades, I have taken many courses on handgun proficiency and safety, but none were as well organized and entertaining as the one at Tactical Safety Institute. The Tactical Safety instructors presented the requisite handgun license material efficiently and effectively in a format and presentation approach that was easily understood and reinforced throughout the course. I can still recall everything they taught during the course. The instructors' in-depth knowledge of firearms, safety, and laws on carrying and using handguns was readily evident throughout the course. These instructors teach the teachers in firearms proficiency and safety; bar none, Tactical Safety Institute instructors are the most knowledgeable team I have met for Texas License to Carry. I loved the wide variety of classes and in depth training. They didn't have the type of class I wanted so they were very patient and worked with us to set up a personalized course. Everyone I spoke with along the way was very helpful. Israel was very knowledgeable and patient with all my questions about gun safety and LTC. Never did I feel condescended to or rushed along. Excellent class to attend for LTC. The instructors are veterans, like myself, and are very professional and knowledgeable. Prices are very fair. Don't be a noob like me who hasn't fired a 9mm in 19 years. Come prepared on how to properly use your firearm Prior to class. The only small negative was I had to purchase hearing and eye protection--which I could have brought--even though it stated there was 'free rental' on the website. It's certainly understandable, though, since these are COVID times. Just need a website update. Other than that very small inconvenience, this class was a pleasure to attend. I took this class as the first step to obtain my CCW. I thought I would be walking into a boring, long class - but Chris & Chuck are great! My SO and I attended the morning class. We got there about 20min earlier and a few people were already lined up. It took some time to get everyone checked in and paid (don't forget that discount for military if you want to take advantage of that) They were very engaging with awesome stories. We had a good amount of breaks, one was enough time to go to the store down the street to get something to eat. A small portion of the morning was at the range. The morning was filled with a lot of information but it did not feel like it dragged. Plus they have a good collection of guns. So during breaks, something to look at (& possibly purchase like we did!) Overall Chris & Chuck know what they're talking about. These guys have impressed me at every level. I'm super demanding of people that work on my cars, Guns, Life, etc. Not because I'm a jerk, just because I know exactly what I want. The employees and the gunsmiths all will take the time to help you and get exactly what you want. I had them work on my .22 competition 10/22, my trainer 10/22, cleaned up my grandfather's Ted Williams .243 (family heirloom) and it was all AAA experience, contact, and quality of work. Finally they built me my first AR intended for High Power competition. I got a bargain on a barrel and they helped answer my questions about the rest of the parts. They put it together for me when I bought up the parts and I went out and shot a 466/500 on my first match . After a bunch of training I felt worthy of a White Oak Armament 20 inch barrel. They installed it and it's a laser. Israel and Zach, the gunsmith and the apprentice, are the guys I've worked closest with. Everyone there is solid though. Legit don't go anywhere else. read more

Took the ladies' handgun course with my sister since she had no knowledge on guns. Their class was informative, interactive, and entertaining. They never made the class of beginners feel as if they were lacking in any way. TSI is planning on opening up their new store in May which is a big improvement over having to drive 15 minutes between class and the range. If they don't have it they can order it or have it shipped to the store for a nominal fee (unless it comes from their online store). This place is family owned and they act like it. My husband and I are very new to the gun world. We are both slow to load a magazine...me due to nerves and my husband due to a disability with his left hand. We expected to need tough skin when it came to dealing with instructors at the shooting range. This was not at all what happened. Chuck instructed while Chris helped BOTH of us reload our guns each time. They were both so, so nice and respectful about it. They took turns instructing the class, one before and one after the range. Both make learning fun and make you feel like you made a friend. They talk about their wives and children and show non-boring videos to make several points. Most videos were either scary or funny. Both guys were really happy to be there and showed a genuine interest in qualifying each student. They were also cheaper than any other place in town. Chuck is a disabled vet. He really loved having the other military people in the class and treated them very special, which I thought was well deserved. Chris was great too! A friend of mine and I knew it was time to actually learn how to use the hand guns we recently acquired.... so we signed up for Ladies Day and the LTC program. Chris and Chuck are GREAT! They know this stuff inside and out. They are both very personable and are able to convey the knowledge they have in a way that could be understood. The program has real life situations and includes their real life experiences. My friend and I both are kind of scared of guns..... At the gun range, I felt comfortable b/c they kept the situation in tight control..... I'm still a bit afraid... but Chris and Chuck have given me a better comfort level. My girlfriend and I attended Tactical Safety Institute's (TSI) concealed handgun course (CHL). TSI is a vet owned business and their instructors of course, are all vets. They were also very knowledgeable and professional conducting the class without putting us to sleep. The videos are sometimes humorous, sometimes serious, but they all drive the point home where concealed weapons are concerned. There is a written test before you go to the range. The CHL course is 10 hours to include range time unless you're there for renewal which is about half that time. It's also one of the most reasonably priced CHL courses out there and the course cost also includes the range fee. Compare with other courses and see for yourself. You can bring your own ammo or buy it from them as well as use one of their pistols. Don't forget your hearing protection. Pistol qualification is at the Bracken Range and you may want to recon it or at least put the address in your GPS if you haven't been there before; worst case, follow the instructor there. Once everything is done and you pass both written and range tests, the instructors will provide you a CHL-100 and instructions on how to complete the rest of the CHL application and how to sign up for fingerprinting. Do not get a passport photo for your CHL; you can put a blurb on the CHL-6 telling DPS to use your driver's license photo and the instructors will tell you how to word it. TSI comes with my highest endorsement not only for cost of the CHL course, but also for the knowledge and professional manner in which they conduct it. read more

Let me preface this comment by stating that I am new to gun ownership. I fired my first weapon last month. Since then I have been hooked! Great bunch of prior military and police officers, best price in town on the CHL class and even with the new guidelines they had there stuff down. We all asked a bunch of questions thru the class and even though it slowed there course schedule down the answered all the questions. There shooting range is outside but very well set up. Took the LTC/CHL class today. Absolutely top notch experience. Chuck and Chris made the class enjoyable and I learned copious amounts about what it takes to be a responsible handgun carrier. On the range, I had trouble with my new 40 cal MMP jamming. It was either the ammo or most likely user (me) error. The guys were super patient and helped me fire enough rounds to pass. It could have been ugly but they never said a cross word--just helped me. I have been through a lot of training (23 years in the military and a retired school teacher).
