It's obvious if you have something other than normal routine care needs he is NOT a doctor for you. Have seen him twice for the same issue that is only getting worse. He did submit for a test "STAT" but didn't bother to submit details to the insurance company to justify it. Therefore the test was refused. I received paperwork from my insurance company stating I needed to have my Dr submit the specifics as to why he wants the test done. Did he ever do that NO! Just saw Dr. Patay again today and he just laughed it off telling me I could appeal it if I wanted. When I gave him the denial paperwork I got from the insurance company and showed him where it stated what they needed he refused to read it just asking me what it said. WOW!!!! Don't you have to know how to read to pass medical school?? As I was leaving his office he again told me I can appeal the denial but he would again submit for the test. I asked if he was going to write the specifics as to the reason for the test and told me "I'll put you have a mass and submit a photo" WOW!!! He just doesn't get it!!! He will definitely NOT be an advocate for you. Hopefully I can get my issue dealt with and will be looking for a new doctor. Would NOT recommend. read more

Bradley Patay is basically an overpaid pharmacist. Run down any list of symptoms and he will quickly name a drug to counteract precisely those effects. It was actually pretty impressive, I mean this guy had one for EVERYTHING. But not once did he ever mention anything to do with an underlying cause. He doesn't seem to be concerned with what's actually wrong, just with treating the symptoms and making you feel better. Now if you're into that sort of thing, then he's a great doctor and totally for you, but as for me, I'm not. Even when I tried asking questions regarding what could be causing my symptoms, his answers were just explaining my symptoms on a cellular level. So God forbid I have pneumonia or cancer or I'm malnourished or something, I'd never find out. He's young, confident, cocky and full of energy. He's just not a very good doctor. read more

Dr. Patay has been my primary care physician since 2005. He is an excellent PCP and it is for these reasons: 1. I have heard so many horror stories about people trying to get appointments with their primary care physicians and the next available appointments being months away. I've never had to wait more than 2 or 3 days after calling Dr. Patay's office for an appointment. 2. I got very sick at one point and was under the care of Dr. Patay. Up until that point I felt as though doctors didn't care much about their patients and were mainly interested in making themselves and their respective hospitals money (which is of course true to an extent). My condition was very bad and the look on Dr. Patay's face during my visits were comparable to those of a family member. My girlfriend and I were honestly astounded at how much he actually cared. 3. He's smart and will go on to give you a molecular explanation of what's going on if you're up for it. I've had a number of PCP's throughout my life (around 6 or 7) and Patay is for sure the best. read more

Dr. Patay has been my PCP for the past 5 years, he has also become my wife's PCP as well as my daughters PCP. He has a calm demeanor that puts you right at ease with him. I have found him to be very thorough in his care for my family and myself. My wife who has been through cancer issues as well as severe anemia problems has been very well cared for, thanks in part to the persistence Dr. Patay has for her well being. Due to the time we have spent in his care and the number of visits we have to his office, which is also well run, (His nurse and scheduler are beyond helpful, doing all that they can to assure we are taken care) Dr. Patay has become more than a physician to us. He is honest in his diagnosis, laying out options for us and providing us with the knowledge we need to make well informed decisions. I visited my PCP of seven years w/ an odd condition I could only describe as spasms in both buttocks, a sore tail bone, and spasms at my ham strings. This very senior Stanford grad had "no idea" what that might be. He said he would do "anything I wished. Would I like physical therapy? " When I looked astonished at his feeble diagnosis, he left the room. Once at home, I went on line to research a new PCP where I discovered Dr. PATAY. I had no problem getting an appointment. Within seconds he told me these symptons were spinal concerns then ordered a back x-ray. When the x-ray confirmed a serious condition he followed up with an MRI. That confirmed a severe condition. I'm now seeing a spine surgeon. This confirms what a change in a doctor can make. I am very impressed with this young knowledable Dr. Patay. Dr Patay is a very well educated and experienced doctor, I have seen him more than six years. During these six years, we can see his improvement and deeper knowledges which really help the patient like me. Also, It is very easy to get appointment to see him in a short time, and I do not have to wait for months to see him. I saw some people gave him bad reviews. I understand why, because the first several times I visited him I had feeling he did diagnosis very quickly. However, the results were all good, he cured my problems very quickly. Background: I moved to La Jolla 8 months ago and was looking for a primary care physician. I went to my insurance website (UnitedHealthcare) and found a doctor with good ratings at Perlman Clinic in LJ. Needless to say, I did not click with him and his laissez faire style, so I continued my search. Despite a few negative reviews on Yelp, I booked an appointment with Dr. Patay anyway because I wanted a male doctor at Scripps who is near my age (he's 46 in 2018). Immediately, I liked his attitude and appreciated his depth of knowledge regarding my various conditions. He took a cautious approach toward some concerns and a slightly aggressive approach toward others. This was very much appreciated by me because it told me that rather than employing a blanket approach to every condition, he gave individual consideration to each, depending on how it affected my lifestyle and long-term health. I'm sure not every doctor is suitable for every patient, as evidenced by my first attempt at finding a PC in LJ. But I can say that Dr. Patay is certainly the best internist I've met in my 48 years on earth. read more

I assume they didn't really give him a chance and expect miracles on the 1st visit which is common in today's world for everything unfortunately. I've been seeing him since I moved out here to California when I was 25 and now I'm almost 40. We have been through all kinds of ups and downs together but he always has been great and definitely listens to my concerns and is extremely caring and thoughtful. He is very knowledgable and the opposite of pompous and he has no problem sending me to a specialist within Scripps if it is not his expertise so I know going to him I will always get to another great doctor within Scripps as well. I have seen Dr Patay now going on 5 years. He has always listened to my concerns and ordered the blood work or test accordingly. He takes the time to answer my questions and explains himself in a way I can understand my medical issues. He also takes care of my Thyroid bloodwork, he recommends other specialists for me to see when necessary. I can only say good things about Dr Patay and soon he will also be my husbands Dr. We are both in our early 70's, so we want answers now when we have a problem and Dr Patay gives them to us or gets us the help we need and I don't mean a prescription for medicine. read more

Both my husband and I see Dr. Patay and we think he's certainly one of the better primary care physicians that we've seen. I would rate him 4.5 stars so I'm rounding up. I've read the negative reviews, and it's easy to perceive that someone isn't a good doctor based on one visit - especially if the patient was stressed or didn't have rapport with the doctor. My experience with Dr Patay is that he's energetic, smart, and caring. I am forever grateful to him for putting two seemingly unrelated health events together and testing me for a rare genetic blood disease - which, by the way, two older doctors with many more years of experience didn't catch. However I must state that my experience with him (he has been my doctor for about 5 years now) has shown him to be very thorough in not only diagnosing the underlying cause (or potential causes), but in also being willing and thorough in explaining how his exam lead to his thinking. He also has a great balance between believing in the pharmaceuticals and also understanding (and promolgating) the importance of other, more holistic methods (e.g, exercise, physical therapy, biofeedback). I just spent 20 minutes with him ttoday (I was his last client) where we talked about cause and effects of marketed drugs vs. their perceived safety issues, genomic medicine and biomarkers used in clinical trials to better predict true development value. I visited Dr. Patay, because my regular PCP was all booked and I wanted to do a quick MRSA test, that is very simple and short procedure. I was in a close contact with MRSA infected kids for 3 weeks and wanted to make sure I did not get that myself and did not spread infection around my home. That was the ONLY reason why I decided to spend my time, and copay $20 to visit the doctor's office. After listening my short explanation, Dr. Patay said that he is not going to do the test because he believes I do not need that. I tried to explain to him again my reasons for doing that test . Also I told him that when I made appointment I specifically stated the purpose of this appointment is to do the test. He insisted on his opinion and we were arguing for several minutes. I felt so bad about that, why he did not listening the patient? Finally, after our heated arguing he performed the test( that is just swab in the nose!) I think it took him 3 seconds to do that, and he left the room. But I have big doubts that he did the test diligently, it was too quick and he seems to be too irritated. Overall, it was very disturbing experience for me. I do not recommend this doctor to anybody. read more

I have nearly 10 years of experience with Dr. Patey. I rarely write reviews but felt it was warranted given a few of the negative ones I have seen. For me, Dr. Patey has been a great doctor. I am a pretty healthy person overall, however over the years, I have had bouts with pneumonia, shingles, and what I thought were a heart issue and a skin issue. Dr. Patey quickly diagnosed the first 2 issues within about 10 seconds of seeing me, and quickly referred me to specialist for the other 2 (which fortunately were negative). I have never waited more than a week or 2 at the most to see him, and the appointments are generally on time or within 15 minutes of the schedule. Anyone who has complained about his bedside manner probably came in with a bad or combative mood, because I have found him to be very professional and friendly, easy to talk to, and I never feel rushed, despite knowing that this is a very busy place. After my first visit with Dr. Patay, I was disappointed to see a 3-digit charge on my bill for "First Time Visit." What? If there is going to be a charge like that, I think at least notifying your patient ahead of time would be an honest business practice. A year later, when I called to schedule my second visit, I received no return call. So I called and left another voicemail, and again no return call. (my average on-hold time for my calls was longer than 30 minutes) After a third call, the secretary tried to talk to me about my medical condition, but after I refused to discuss it with the secretary, she scheduled to have a nurse return my call, which the nurse did the following day. After my apt for lab work was made, I called the Scripps Clinic again to request the price I would be charged, and once again, I was told they will not be able to give me that information because they don't know how much my insurance would be paying. I explained that I had a high deductible and so I would likely be paying out of pocket and I would like to know how much I would be charged. They said I needed a CPT #, which I have not been given.
