This my review of Dr Liu and his staff. My wife has been a patient here for about a year and I've been meaning to write a good review but every time I forget. We've been coming here mainly because my wife speaks mandarin as her primary language and it's difficult to find any Dr's that speak the language. But, the main review on the Dr is his overwhelming "patience" with the patient as most doctors can't wait to get you in and out of the exam room as they have so many patients, Dr Liu takes the time to listen, review, and come up with a plan/recommendation for treatment even when the patient (my wife) keeps on talking and wanting more answers. Dr liu, is conservative as opposed to aggressive in his treatment including prescriptions, always giving possible side effects and reasons for recommending which one and why this is the best approach. I've been to plenty of Dr appts in my life where you're not only feeling rushed to get out of the office, you also are not confident in the treatment. Dr Liu also has a good sense of humor and also has good manor with female clients. Because of this, I'm probably making Dr Liu my primary doctor as well. Absolutely horrible experience here. I went in to start PreP - a preventative prescription that is 100% covered (clinic visits, lab fees, and the prescription itself) by federal mandate. Before, during, and after being seen by the nurse practitioner I tried confirming literally countless times that they knew this visit was preventative, not diagnostic, and that there were specific Z (preventative) codes to use so I wouldn't be incorrectly billed as I have been before. They had literally no idea what I was talking about, but kept trying to dismiss me and talk about how I hadn't met my deductible. I was politely standing my ground against 4 of them to state that what they were telling me was not correct and asked them to please call my insurance on the back of my card to confirm, and they refused for over 30 minutes. Finally, the actual doctor told them there were preventative codes for PreP - exactly as I said. No apology at all and extremely unprofessional. Also, told me they would call me in a couple days when my prescription was ready and they never contacted me. Then, lo and behold, 3 days later I get an EOB saying I owe them for my clinic visit. Totally illegal, and exactly why I bent over backward to make sure they coded everything properly. After my insurance called them to try and inform them what they were doing was incorrect they said they would change it this ONE TIME, but not moving forward. My insurance told them that's literally not how it works, but they didn't care. Diane, the billing buffoon, said she's been doing it for 30 years her way and she knows what she's doing. Clearly not. This place is just a typical ill-informed, old-school style practice that can't get with the times. Who knows how out of date their processes are, they are probably incorrectly billing countless patients. Super, super disappointing and severely out of touch with the medical needs of people today, and they do not advocate for their patients' health and wellbeing. You want your doctor's office to be up to date, educated, and happy to give you care. Please, do not go here. read more

I gave one star because there is no place for a "0" star. After my first visit I was referred to a surgeon. I called everyday for almost 2 weeks to get them to send the referral in when it should have happened the same day. Finally after 15 days they sent the referral. Then I contacted them on another matter but related to the surgery via MyScripts and its been 10 days and still no contact from them. I have called twice and each time the never pick up and goes straight to "leave a message" but guess what, they never return any calls. I've contacted my provider and asked them to switch my primary care specialist. Seriously, one of the worst primary care providers I've ever been with. I have been a patient of Dr Liu for years and never put a review in, so I thought it was time. Exceptional service at this doctor Liu's office! The staff (Carina especially) is friendly and efficient, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Dr. Liu and the NP Fengqing, whom I have been seeing the last couple of appointment, are always attentive, knowledgeable, and took their time to address all my concerns. The office is well-organized, and I appreciate the seamless experience from check-in to follow-up. Everyone at Dr Liu's office is very sweet. It's hard to find a doctor along with staff who speak Mandarin Chinese in San Diego. My parents go here and they are always very accommodating. They have Parking spots which is super helpful because it's hard to find them at PB. read more

One of the worst doctor's appointment's I've ever had. My insurance assigned me to Dr. Liu & it took 4 months to see him after he cancelled my appointment twice. I finally got him on the phone for a Telehealth appointment & I was shocked at how ill-informed he was on women's health issues & how difficult it was to talk to him. The reason for my visit was a gyno referral & the first thing he said on the phone was "You're Pregnant!". I am definitely NOT pregnant & don't want to be. I asked why he said they & he said my file was asking for a Gyno referral. He seriously thought the ONLY reason to see a Gyno was if you were pregnant. He almost didn't refer me to see someone. When I finally was able to see my gyno, she said he said my visit was to "remove my birth control IUD". That was NOT the reason for my visit so the care I needed was not covered my insurance. Not only that, but he added a ton of random allergies to my medical file that I never said that I had. He also was IMPOSSIBLE to talk to on the phone - I told him I had vertigo for the first time in sixth grade & he was like "ok so you've had vertigo for 6 years straight". I spent most of the call correcting him. I've requested a new primary care doctor. Seriously one of the worst doctors I've ever talked to. read more

My experience at Dr. Liu's office was fantastic. Everyone on staff was kind and attentive. This was my first appointment with Dr. Liu, and he took the time to learn about me and my history, and my current situation. He asked questions and was thoroughly committed to ensuring I got the care and next steps needed. Dr. Liu has been my primary care physician for 11+ years. I can't say enough good things about him. He sincerely cares about the well-being of his patients. Back in 2011 I was dealing with some pretty heavy things in my life. I'll always remember the day that he called me at home after a recent visit during that time. He just wanted to make sure I was ok and if I needed anything. No doctor had ever done that for me.....a simple phone call. He's always objective and provides all options so that I can make the best decision for whatever care I need. He'll be my doctor until he decides to retire. Dr. Liu really cares about his patients. I have been coming to this family practice for almost two years now and have brought my wife and friends over to switch. Prior to Dr. Liu, I've been to almost every large hospital provider and always felt like they never really cared about your concerns and just treated you like another patient. At every visit here, all my concerns are heard. If there are any business trips I'm taking internationally he takes the time to research vaccines or medication I may need. Yearly checkups are done to ensure my health isn't deteriorating. Everything I may have questions about, he provides answers to, period. Can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

Was taking care of family member when I can down with bad cold. Though my insurance list I going Dr Lin and had no problem getting an appointment. Dr Liu was a pleasant surprise because we are so use to getting " zoom in and out" of doctor visits ; let me explain. We usually sit for hours to see our physicians but only gets real 10min time with the doctor. Dr Lin was kind and patient , ask lots of questions make sure he covers all ends. We were grateful that he actually took time to listen though our complains before giving us his opinion. Thank you . I have been a patient of Dr. Liu's for almost 10 years. I have a background with the medical field & know that most Dr's will clock anywhere from 10-15mins with a patient. Dr. Liu is not most Dr's. He takes the time to listen & evaluate the needs of his patients. It is honestly why I have stayed at his office. I had a few health issues & Dr. Liu encouraged me to make changes in my life to turn things around. After a few years of resistance & medication, I said with conviction that I did not want to be on medication any longer & he supported me with my decision. With time, lots of effort and support from family, friends and Dr. Liu I have turned my health around. Just received an A+ from my visit today & I was sure to let Dr. Liu know he had something to do with it. If you want to be seen by a great Dr. who truly cares for the well being of his patients, I recommend Dr. Liu. read more

Same as many comments above. The doctor is nice. But the staff is horrible, just completely wasting our time. She tried to type one application form, which we already feed her right information. She kept doing it wrong, every single filed, even some fields were right and suddenly went wrong next time. A horrible experience. Another thing is overcharging. Everything they charged a little bit more than others. And they don't really accept the shot records you had before. It ends up I spent $500 for immigration exam. I don't know if I can blame this to the doctor though. Anyhow, not a very pleasant visit. read more

The doctor is good, the office staff is rude and awful. Payment policy breaks Tricare rules. While there were many incidents of the office staff being rude or indifferent, Dr. Liu was so good that it was almost worth it. However the last visit will actually be the last ever. My wife was in an automobile accident, and wanted care from Dr. Liu. His office staff said that regardless of the fact we have Tricare, she would have to pay cash in advance to be seen. The reason given was some trouble they had in the past getting reimbursed for automobile accidents from Tricare. Upon later inquiring about this policy, and asking them to just file the claim with Tricare like usual, they refused. The demand for cash payment persisted. I called Tricare to see that the real policy was, and learned that network doctors are not allowed to demand cash payments and/or to refuse to file claims. When presented with this information, the receptionist rudely cut off the conversation, and made it clear that it was "cash or no care". Later, someone else at the office called back to say they would make an exception to their policy and file the claim with Tricare etc. But this was too late, they lost a patient, and I am filing a grievance with Tricare. read more

Dr Liu was very helpful in sorting out health related check up for immigration paperwork, and seven years later he is now my primary care physician. What I appreciate the most with Dr Liu and is wonderful wife Grace assisting him, is that they take the time to listen to you and won't hesitate to call you after hours to make sure all is well. I will highly recommend this warm place because it makes you feel like home especially when you are sick. Dr. Liu has been our family's physicians for more than three years. Dr Lou was AMAZING! He took the time to discuss everything with me and put it in terms that really sank in. He was patient, caring, and understanding. My last doctor treated my appointments as if they were part of the factory line that needed to quickly be processed. I've worked in healthcare for 3 years and understand that it may be difficult to be punctual when you have patients that take more time than what they are allotted or even sometimes prescriptions slip through the cracks when sending to the pharmacy electronically (happened to me on my last pick up). No big deal, I get it, people are human. But this place... man. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. Dr Liu himself is a great doctor, it's just the practice and the front desk people I've spoken with -- Be weary of the Asian women up front. That's all I'm gonna say. The hispanic woman (apologies, I'm terrible at names) at the front is the one you'd want to speak with (if you decide to go here) -- she's pleasant to talk to and is very thorough with what she's doing and will not "drop the ball" on you like the others have. When you say you're busy and will give you a call back, totally fine. Lets talk later! I get it, you're going to lunch 10 minutes early, got it. -- Never got a call back in regards to my matter. I wouldn't recommend the office of Dr. Liu. The doctor himself was very nice, but the receptionist wasn't helpful at all. I needed her to fax a referral over to a specialist and after calling for 2 days in a row, she said she wasn't sure when she would be able to fax it over. I explained how the doctor said I should see a specialist ASAP and this referral was needed but it seemed like she could care less. Additionally, not having call waiting in 2014 is crazy to me. I had to redial their number 23 times to get through, and then was told she wasn't sure when she could send the fax. Again-the doctor was nice, but the office needs help. read more

Happened to need to do my medical exam and found Dr Chia. I was a bit hesitated to go there because of the reviews here but I had to get it done ASAP and Dr Chia could get me in earliest. Receptionist was super friendly and helpful. It took almost 40 mins before I could see the Dr and I asked the nurse what happened. It turned out to be the patient ahead of me had some issue and requested to have some shots. Dr Chia disagreed and took time to explain to him and it was why I had to wait for a while. I have to give credits to Dr Chia for his patience with his patients. He still made sure I am all being taken care of instead of rushing me and trying to make up the wait time. Dr. Liu is very nice but the reception is completely clueless. Expect at least an hour wait before the reception even talks to you!

My mom has recently been seen by Dr. Liu. I went to her last appointment which need to be reschedule. Because I mom was ill. His nurse was very nice and flexible with her. We ended up having to reschedule. She was also very helpful with that. When we went to my mom's appointment. I had many concerns that I needed to address ASAP. Because she had not been seen by a doctor in awhile. And unfortunately, the doctor before Dr. Liu could not keep up with her. He was super accomodating. Helps my mom with so may things. Did so many exams fast and efficiently with grace. I have so far been very impressed with his knowledge as a doctor and his speed with everything that I need to have addressed in 1 appointment. Then I recently received a call from him nurse to schedule more things on my list and go through meds with her. I am impressed with his nurse too. She is really trying hard to keep up with all that we did that day. And his wife. She is beautiful, smart, and sweet too. I have enjoyed all of them so far. Plus the most impressive part! He not only speeks English and Chinese Mandarin I think. He also speaks Thai very well. Impressive!! read more

please be careful when you walked into this clinic. They overcharged patient a lot. My Husband walked into this clinic to take a blood test for high LDL test. After one visit, we received $1508 of lab exam on Dec. 2014 and $1289 on Feb. 2015 in two different labs for those tests. That's quite a lot to us. read more

I must be crazy, writing this very positive review for Dr. Liu that might bring him more patients, since at this point among his many pluses is the fact that you can connect immediately with a real human being at his office, and set up an appointment fast. Then when you arrive, you'll be seen almost exactly at the time that was set, and he does a thorough, thoughtful job, spending as much time as is needed, no pressure. I've been seeing Dr Liu for at least 5 years. I feel very comfortable in his care. He genuinely listens and considers all options. I've had a little wait to see him on a few occasions, but understand because he has taken a good amount of time to address all my needs at certain appointments also. I recently learned about Osteopathic Medicine and I decided to switch over from my previous physician with an M.D. to Dr. Liu with a D.O. I'm glad I made the switch because this is probably the first time I have been able to thoroughly discuss my concerns with a physician without being brushed off. Dr. Liu maintains eye contact--a rare occurrence with MD physicians--and addressed my concerns without making any situation awkward. Dr. Liu is very professional, has a good smile, and a bit of humor. DOs are different. Because DOs take time to address as many problems and concerns, new patients need to understand that visits can take on average up to 30 minutes per patient. If you're visiting Dr. Liu for the first time, know that appointments are usually not on time. Make sure you schedule with Dr. Liu with about a 2 hour window in your day. I've had to wait almost an hour before I could see Dr. Liu but I found that the wait was well worth it. If you want a quick in-and-out visit, then an MD physician may be a better choice at times. As for the staff, I haven't received any rude or unprofessional behavior. Final note, Dr. Liu knows OMM but does not really practice OMM in his clinic. Thanks for reading my review. read more

I never had a better experience getting vaccine shoots and blood drawn. Went there for the medical exam which I need for my immigration process/green card. I could not eat for days and had anxiety ever since I heard about that I have to do all those blood tests and get vaccine shots. I get sick just walking into a doctors office. I am so happy I went to Dr. Liu. His staff took time to explain the whole process when I first called. I already felt relived. They are so nice and took time to make my feel comfortable.
