I saw Dr. Christy Jackson in Neurology, at the Headache Clinic. Dr. Jackson knew right away what I had, was able to explain my test findings, and explained the course of treatment in easy-to-understand language. Headache specialists are hard to find, and I'm grateful that I had access to one. They seem to see a good deal of patients with migraines. If you're not familiar with Scripps Health, you should know that several providers are associated with, but not directly part of Scripps Health. It can be hard to figure out who's who and where. The agents at Scripps seem to favor their own; I didn't love that part. The care itself was good quality, though. Other than the one issue, I felt that people were trying to help. read more

Unfortunately, our experience with Dr. Nayna Patel was very disappointing. While she initially came across as empathetic, that quickly changed once my mother-in-law began expressing her concerns. After briefly reviewing her MRI, Dr. Patel dismissed her symptoms and told her that injections would not work, that her spine was "closed," and that surgery was the only option. The conversation felt rushed and one-sided, with surgery being pushed without exploring or discussing other possible treatments. When we tried to follow up with questions and concerns, the office did not return our calls for over a week. When we finally received a response, we were told that my mother-in-law had "trust issues" and that Dr. Patel would not continue working with her. This was extremely unprofessional and upsetting, especially for someone who was simply seeking clarity and reassurance about her health. Ironically, we are now grateful that the relationship ended, because we found another doctor who took the time to properly evaluate her MRI, said surgery was not necessary, provided injections, and my mother-in-law is now doing great and feeling significantly better. Every patient deserves to be heard, respected, and given options -- not dismissed or labeled for asking questions. Based on our experience, we would not recommend Dr. Patel. read more

I saw Dr. Munveer Bhangoo for a second opinion/ follow-up on my cancer treatment. (I was a Scripps patient previously and, unfortunately, now have Kaiser.). Everything was wonderful from the Nurse Navigator, Christina to appointment scheduling to the visit with Dr. Bhangoo. My husband and I had a good discussion with Dr. Bhangoo. It also definitely seemed like he had reviewed my case prior to coming in to meet with us. (A major difference from Kaiser where they don't review anything until you are sitting there in front of the doctor.) This is the second time I've used the second opinion service for myself. I also used it for my aunt (also a Kaiser patient) who had esophageal cancer. All of my interactions with the Scripps physicians and team have been great with my visits as well as for my aunt. I'll continue to use the second opinion service and highly recommend it especially if you are a Kaiser Permanente patient. Dr.jennifer Retana did my hearing test. She was very dismissive and would not make eye contact. I saw a person brought him in for an appointment. She was so respectful.but when she called me up she didnt see as a patient but a transient.i had trouble hearing her commands and she wrote down "beware of malingering " as if she's telling other doctors that to watch out for me. Scripps has several groups and even though doctors are in the same city or sister cities it does not mean they're in the same group. The Torrey Pines clinic is a weird place. It's attached to an urgent care which is attached to a hospital. If you are visiting the clinic it is the building on the furthest right and has a coffee shop kiosk outside of it. Whether you park inside or in the parking structure parking is not free. It's four dollars for 30 minutes or more. Yes, you have to pay for parking even if you are just a patient going to an appointment. Sometimes when you get there you have to check in at the information booth upfront with the volunteers who apparently have access to all of your information. Sometimes you have to check in at the department. There will be no indication, signage or warning of what that will be. Definitely the worst doctor's experience in an office I've had today. I've been to this location several times and dread it every time. read more

Pro -Service! - parking right up front Con -Not covered by some insurances -Parking In the day and age of technology taking over in almost every field/industry, the service now is more important and here has always been above reproach! For me at least. I started coming here back in 2011 for a neurological condition I started developing. Long story short I found one of the top doctors in the field for my condition. Even after insurance didn't cover him I managed to make my way back. Beautiful drive and location. Large overall campus with great views! It does get windy at times depending where you're at and gets chilly in the evening. It is coastal! Parking can be an issue but they have plenty of spots available if in need. And parking does go on the side/rear of the buildings. I do truly recommend Scripps Torrey Pines if your insurance and such permits. Especially the Nuerology Dept. Stay Healthy! read more

UPDATED 5/24 1:26PM PST: After 2+ hours on hold (screenshot attached) I finally hung up. Unbelievable! I've been on hold for over 80 minutes with the Oncology department at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines. A very important medication refill has been due since last week and an infusion appointment was cancelled over 2.5 weeks ago. No one bothered to call to reschedule the infusion as they claimed they would. When I followed up with them last Friday (again, with excessive hold times) the woman who finally answered the phone acted like she was doing me a favor to get a refill and reschedule an infusion that is clearly overdue. Perhaps their employees should remember they are dealing with CANCER patients. Scripps does not care about their patients and anyone who works in the technology industry knows that it doesn't take 3 weeks to get IT systems back up and running after a cyberattack. Something fishy is going on and they know it! P.S. I can't wait for Scripps to comment on this with their generic Yelp reply and email address for ME to reach out to. A week ago I was seen at a hospital for my illness. Per the take home sheet, I went to this urgent care in horrible pain/no food for a few days, literally ready to pass out. The wait time was hours long, but what really upset me was the doctor. After explaining why I'm in for the 5th time, he asks again. But when he asks, he is not actively listening/looking at me, and cuts me off. I tell him my concern about medications after talking to my psychiatrist- he says, 'uh well I'm a doctor and I've never heard of this' and gives me the drug anyway. I reiterated that was in a lot of pain at least 4 times and was told 'no just go home and take advil'. The dr also said I was not seeing things correctly and lied about a physical symptom I was experiencing. And then - they can't explain what's wrong with me. I wasted money and time on this. I'm appalled by the service I received today. read more

My parents and I received beautiful treatment here over the decades. Brought my husband in to their Urgent Care for a kidney stone this weekend. He was in agony and Dr. Sutton (their Urgent Care Surgeon) is knowledgeable, kind, personable and smart. She sent him to radiology for a CT Scan. Discovered multiple stones just waiting to blow next and dimpled all over his kidney. Apparently his other kidney has some ready to hatch as well. Husband is a Surgeon. Wanted to see his CTScan with his own eyes. I'm here today at Radiology Film Library picking up a copy of his startling film. I'm impressed by how excellently "Adrian D." Has treated me while sending over for a copy of his CT Scan. I've never given much thought to personal in a hospital who aren't either Doctors or Nurses. Adrian D. I've been a Scripps Health customer for about 25 years now and, although I've moved from Carlsbad to Camarillo, I still use Scripps for my medical needs. Months ago I called and made an appointment. Finally the appointment day came, so on 2/13/25 I drove three hours in the rain and got there a half hour early only to find that my appointment had been canceled without notice, even though Scripps has my email address. In a condescending manner, the woman at the check-in counter blamed me and then lied (probably) about the doctor not being in, so I left and drove home in the rain. So for $80 in gasoline and seven hours of driving in the rain I got gaslighted and turned away by some low level employee. Never again. read more

I just had an appointment with Dr. Jake Hamer in the hand surgery orthopedic department on the first floor. I had the early appointment at 8:30 with an x-ray first at 8:10 they called me in for the x-ray right on time and Dr. Hamer called me in for my appointment right on time Dr. Hamer not only explained my wrist issue and showed me the x-rays but he also addressed an additional issue with my trigger finger on my right hand. That isn't why I came in to see him, but I was hoping that he would also look at my finger. He didn't bad and I and he proceeded to test my finger, and he diagnosed it right away and offered me a few options and I took the Cortizone shot and I'm praying that it will do the trick and relieve me of my finger getting stuck whenever I grab something. Dr. Hamer is top notch and it's always nice to see a doctor that is physically taking care of himself, and that also communicate well with the patient. Dr. Hamer was very personal and listen to my concerns and addressed each one of them efficiently. I am highly pleased with the care that I received today. read more

I circled around for about 45 minutes looking for parking until I missed my appointment and then finally just decided to leave out of frustration. On the way out they wanted $6 because I was there longer than 30 minutes. I asked them what the $6 was for and they said parking... to which I replied, "but I never even parked!" He offered me a shot but I'm allergic to it. Update: went to Scripps LJ ER yesterday and was diagnosed with a Cervicogenic Headache by the Neurologist, Dr. Ramirez, who is excellent! I was seen by the Neurologist since they found something unrelated on my CT scan. Regarding the attending ER doctor, Michelle Chastain, not a fan. I need a CT abdomen and pelvis with IV contrast and it is absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to connect to Scripps Scheduling for a CT scan at this location. . Its ridiculous. I have been trying for 5 DAYS. I tried 858 554 7844, and they dont even let the call ring, they just cut it dead! So I tried 1800 SCRIPPS, and got the operator to connect/ transfer me to the other number. When 1800 SCRIPPS connected me to the scheduling phone number 858 554 7844 I get a recording, which keeps saying " your call is important to us " ( LOL, atleast they have a sense of humor !! ) and then it keeps me on hold for over 20 mins and THEN CUTS THE CALL DEAD. Not once, but again and again and again. OVER A PERIOD OF 5 DAYS. If I could I would go change RIGHT NOW to Kaiser Medical if I could. My Neighbor says they always answer the phone. Scripps Scheduling is A JOKE. Which is a pity because I have used this facility before for mamagrams etc and the service is great. I would give the service at this facility 5/5 starts. Pity i cant even get to schedule anything atm. Their scheduling phone numbers get a -5/5. Thats a minus 5 out of 5 . Customer service please take note. I only went to Dr. Alexander Meilan because I was looking to establish a new Primary doctor since my doctor retired after 20 plus years of receiving his care through Scripps. I asked for a written prescription that I had with my former internal medicine doctor to be refilled. If you want a doctor and want any past medications that were prescribed by your previous doctor then be prepared that Dr. Alexander Meilan will make you take three different drug tests. He did three different drug tests without my verbal or written consent. He is a very young doctor and has no sense when he's dealing with senior citizens that has never ever taken any opioids or any illegal substances ever. The real truth is I received my 3 different drug test and all were completely negative! This was a major Violation and power of deceiving my medical well being and future records through my work. Not to mention my personal stress has been monumental! How dare Dr. Alexander Meilan do anything he wants to any patients without verbal or written consent for any drug test that is unconstitutional, a major violation and a huge distrust as a patient! This was absolutely disgusting and absurd!! Be prepared Dr. Alexander Meilan thinks he has authority over my life and future well being without my consent. This is absolutely elder abuse!!! By the way he ordered Narcan/ Naloxone without telling me too. I had to find out by a call from my pharmacy. Think about that! What can that drug do when there will never ever be a need to administer a drug that can harm my life if administered! Narcan is a drug that you cannot administer to yourself you can only do it to others that are overdosing! He never talked about it at my visit and my husband was present at the doctor's visit. I want to share my experience with Scripps regarding their policy on annual exams. I was not informed that discussing anything beyond preventative care during an annual exam would result in an additional office visit charge. As a result, I was billed a copay despite my insurance covering annual exams without a copay. This policy seems unreasonable, and I want to make others aware of this potential issue with Scripps' billing practices. I had an old ankle injury that was aching and I wanted to get it checked out. I went to get it checked out at Scripps Torrey Pines. The doctor gave me an X-ray, looked at my ankle and sent me on my way with a referral to get an MRI. I was probably there for an hour. I got a bill for $700 which I thought was outrageous so I called to make sure it was correct. Not only was the amount correct, they said they would have only charged me $500 if I didn't have insurance! To be clear, I was charged an extra $200 FOR HAVING INSURANCE. They said this was because of a deal they have worked out with my insurance company. Neither Scripps nor my insurance company were willing to help me out. Don't go to Scripps and don't use Blue Cross/Blue Shield they're both criminal in my opinion. read more

To Scripps you are just a number. The doctors and staff will never remember you. I haven't seen an MD in years because only the nurse practitioners have appointments available. If you need an urgent refill on a prescription you have to call and try to get through to random office staff who don't properly convey the message. I went to get my ear infection checked up. Even though the clinic was fairly empty, I had to wait for the doctor for half hour after the NP took my vitals. She took sample for my ear culture and was told that the result would come in 48 hours and she would give me a call. However, I called after 50hours and was very rudely informed that the results haven't arrived and we can't do anything about it, maybe it was 72 hours. Now, it has been more than 80 hours, and the result still hasn't come in either the portal or got a call from the doctor. read more

Having something besides the Coronavirus during this outbreak is more likely to kill you here than the virus itself. I was here today with a loved one and Scripps were completely, incredibly disorganized. Almost to the point of disbelief; this whole last week has felt like being trapped in a weird dream and this turned it into a nightmare. First, we went here early for an appointment & they got some tests. We went back home. His doctor called in the afternoon saying he had to come to general surgery for an "Emergency" surgery. We drive there, get to General surgery and they have no appointment on file at all, somehow all the assistance they can offer is "shrug". It's a mystery that cannot be solved, or at least one the patients have to solve. We go to the doctor's waiting room and talk to Check-In there, the clerk doesn't know, she talks to the doctor's nurse, he doesn't know. So we wait about an hour to figure out where to go & hear from the doctor, because the doctor is with another patient, yet somehow his staff seem completely out of the loop and can't help. I walk to another Check-in counter in an attempt to figure out where to go, the clerk doesn't know, so he goes over to ask Check Out, she says it's General Surgery, & there's no doctors on call & that's the issue. Somehow the staff in General Surgery have no knowledge of this and are also completely out of the loop. See the pattern so far? Finally, we're directed to go to Urgent Care, we go to Urgent Care, to the right hand side leaving the clinic. Due to this flu outbreak, we are not permitted to walk into the waiting room, the nurse tells us to check in, but there is no one at the check in for urgent care outside, and we had already checked in at the main lobby. I don't think we contracted the virus or a cough walking between buildings. I am at this point irritated, the staff could see and told me to not get upset, I get it's not the staff's fault; but most people in this position are going to be upset at this point, fortunately no one was dying, but if they were, I'd be livid. Also, when he got into urgent care (I wasn't allowed to follow), he texted me and apparently had been informed by the staff there that if he just had went straight to urgent care in the morning instead of the trouble of going through his GP, it would've already been handled ALL much earlier. This wasn't communicated to him as a course of action in the morning. I hope I'm not losing my mind, is it crazy that this whole ordeal is aggravating??? Is it just me??? It makes you wonder the odds of someone just dying in the waiting room because no one seems to have any idea of what's going on & no one communicates effectively. Another note, I called the urgent care number they provided me on the card, and told me to call for updates. Ok, so I called them for an update, first thing: "this is urgent care not surgery". Yes, I know, but we brought the patient there because there were no surgeons in General Surgery. Somehow this was not communicated or available to her. Turns out he wasn't in urgent care apparently at this time, but this wasn't communicated to me at all. I'm re-directed to an operating line, and finally get some updates. All of this info should not be this complicated to pin down, all this info should be clearly communicated to the patients and their family & friends helping them. The general surgery staff should be able to tell you if there are no surgeons in staff in general surgery, and know EXACTLY where to send you thereafter. Any faith I had in this system is completely gone, any doctors wondering why people avoid going to them like the plague, this is why; and not just because they've decided to corral all the possible Coronavirus cases to the front of Urgent Care... Lastly, I don't want to seem like I'm blaming the staff here, they can't be faulted for being left out of the loop and dealing with a flurry of people with sniffles thinking they're at death's door; they're trying to do their job and this whole "outbreak" is a cluster for everyone. I don't want to be mad at them, but it would be surprising to me if they wouldn't feel EXACTLY the same in our shoes in this situation. Clearly there is some massive, disconnect with the internal admin system, hospital admin, organization structure, etc. which unfortunately points to a LARGE problem of organization which maybe will turn into a larger problem over time. I hope it's due to this large scale pandemic freak out and not an issue I've merely been unaware of, I really liked Scripps over the years, so it's really a shame to see this firsthand. I would like to start by saying Scripps has some amazing RCPs, RNs, CNAs and Drs. However this ER is straight up looking for a law suit. I am at the top of my profession. I have been actively practicing in the the field with advanced national credentials in Neonatal, Pediatrics and Adults. I have worked at Air-Evac and the top Ers and ICUs across the US for well over 35 yrs. These people straight out lie. They are neglectful. After a fews years of abuse and neglect. Yeah sending me home with a BP of 200/110, yeah actually higher then that, they go back and document the best and only low one and send me home, despite my concern after going into SVT. I call to say hey this is not right and they changed their documentation to say they COUNCLED ME ON IT! LOL, THEY NEVER DID THAT NOR DID THEY CONTACT MY ADVANCED CARDIOLOGIST, LIARS. WELL THAT IS AWESOME BECAUSE WHEN I PLAY IT BACK THEY SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AND DID A CYA, SO THEY THOUGHT! I also took sceen shots of the monitor showing multiple bps with the times. They lie. Seriously, and I asked her,( ER risk management) their version, multiple times please council these people on burn out, and listening to their patients. They went in and changed their documentation. I have tried over 5 yrs with these Scripps ERs. A resident in the ER, Dr. Zhang listened and did a motility test. 5 plus yrs of suffering, abuse, neglect, and lies. I lost most of my retirement, could not work, was hospitalized multiple times after they would send me home. Sometimes for 7 to 10 days. I lost job opportunites. I cleared out my saving. I went from solid muscle doing P90x and now I can barely do stairs. One of the last drs did a pregnancy test. Lol. I am in my 50s, Post menopausal and on HRT, but had she read my chart or listened. This is one example. I have so many. They never called back. This is their pattern. It has only gotten significantly worse since Covid. They never change anything for me but worsening abuse and neglect. Your company has numerous opportunies to implement a burn out program, education above what you are doing because that has NOT worked. I am at such a loss for words. I pray for these individuals because depite my prognosis, they need prayer. Please use caution and have a patient care advocate when you visit this ER. I would recommend a healthcare worker. What a sad day. Scripps has become an institution with zero regard for the patient. Do not ask questions. No matter how long you have been waiting. Even when it is apparent that your paperwork has not made the transition from check-in to x-ray. Updates, which are available at other world class clinics are not provided at Scripps. Staff are better and more important than you are. You are only a patient. Scripps used to be a welcoming clinic. I was a little anxious to have to go anywhere near the Covid Cabana... but I needed to see a doctor for a procedure and they have everything here wonderfully separated and clean. Podiatry got me in within a few days (each doctor is working onsite only 1 day a week) - and everything was super fast and organized and clean. It was easy to social distance except in the elevator, but everyone (except one patient!!) was wearing a mask. Dr. Bradley was wonderful, and I was in and out very quickly. Thank you for working, folks, and getting me an appointment so I could be out of pain! read more

Your protocol for monkeypox testing is amateur at best. Your nurses are discouraging anyone who isn't a non-heterosexual man from seeking help for testing or vaccines. Even though monkeypox isn't an STI, they're treating it like it is. When you finally get to the nurses meant to be testing for monkeypox, they quite obviously have no idea what they're doing, and they actually admitted to having no training. Fumbling around, taking entirely too long. A complete joke. A horrible experience today at the Torrey Pines location. Fix this and be professional. What a joke this place is. 5 hours before I can even be seen by a doctor. I haven't seen anything even approaching "urgent" or "care". Maybe whoever is running thus shadetree operation should pull their heads out of wherever they're lodged and think about opening up some more "urgent care" facilities and hiring some more medical professionals. The most inefficient, bureaucratic, disorganized organization you will ever deal with. Plan on spending 20 times longer than you should for any little thing, e.g physical therapy - 10 hours to get it set up, handicapped placard-5 hours, phone hold time for anything- 45 minutes. They're amazing! Came in around 4am for a gnarly ear infection. Nobody else was there - Check in took just five minutes, then vitals were done instantly. The doctor examined and diagnosed the ear infection right away. The best part is they gave me my first dose of antibiotics right there, without me needing to drive to a pharmacy for pick-up. Staff were all friendly, helpful and courteous. Runs very efficiently - I was seen right away. Thank you. read more
