My (now 10yr old) son has struggled for most of his life. We were Very disappointed when we had to pay $10,000 for Less that 4 months of classes, then they wanted another $9,000 for continued sessions!! Crazy!! How can they ask this of families that come there desperately wanting help for their beloved children?? We see NO change or improvement in our daughter & she is now having to go to therapy while we have this huge debt hanging over our heads each month. The director & her assistant are very good at talking it All up, making you think this is really going to help your child....when in reality they are just collecting your hard earned money & charging you astronomical licensing fees, material fees, etc., etc. ~ If you are thinking about enrolling your child in this 'academy', I would search elsewhere for more effective & affordable solutions ~ this is just a huge money pit :o( read more

Our son, Nathan, started at Brain Boost Academy in October 2019 after we and his teachers noticed that Nathan was not advancing as we thought he would after having competed an extra year of pre-k. He was having difficulty with recall, processing, and attention. He was loving and fun but overall had difficulty communicating with his peers and adults in a meaningful and understandable way. We met with Karyn and the BBA staff and they gave us so much hope. Within months of Nathan starting the program we noticed such big changes. He was more independent, funny, outgoing, and he was no longer my "shadow" child. Within weeks, he was talking more and making sense to others outside of the family; we were so used to being his "translator" to explain his words and thought processes and that was no longer needed. Our son was many years behind in reading and we were not getting anywhere with the methods we had tried. After 6 months, our son had jumped nearly 3 grade levels in reading. Our child was bright, I knew he would be a great student when his school years started. Once in school, he was the first in Kindergarten to learn all his sight words and even complete all of his 1st grade sight words. I was shocked and perplexed him he began struggling in 1st grade and by 2nd grade he had definitely fallen behind and was unable to read. Completely just unable to read, which is odd as when conversing with him it was very apparent that he was intelligent. Thanks to his amazing teacher who had encountered a student like him in the past, she hinted enough that I was able to figure out she was thinking he was maybe dyslexic.. which has nothing to do with intelligence but creates struggles in reading and math. I began my search of outside facilities that could help "correct" this and was feeling very disappointed as most of my findings were that this was just something he was going to have to learn to live with. That is when I heard about Brain Boost, I immediately called and left a message in the evening. The owner, Karyn, called me back quickly (after hours) and talked to me for about an hour! I instantly felt a glimmer of hope. I arranged to have him tested there to see when we could begin... the testing proved that his struggles coincided with dyslexia. It was a hard pill to swallow and looking at the costs of the program he needed was daunting. There was no way that I couldn't do this for him though so we went ahead with the full recommendation. I would 100% do this all over again! My little man's life has literally been completely changed. He is not quite up to grade level but is quickly approaching. In just a few short months, he went from being unable to read at all to reading 2nd grade level chapter books independently. His grades in math have improved and other areas that I thought were just "him" have changed... i.e. he was not very athletic and now his entire group of friends has changed, he hangs out with the sporty kids and plays sports and excels. He was once very uncoordinated and he is amazingly coordinated now. My grandson has been going to Brain Boost Academy for 5 months now. He was 2 years behind in reading and math last year, we were constantly fighting to get his homework done, he had trouble making friends at school, and he hated to read. I recently had his review at school and he has improved between 85 and 98% in all of his goals. He is more confident, he wants to read more, he is making more friends in school, and homework is much less stressful. He even wanted to do extra credit work for school! That was unheard of last year. The staff couldn't be more caring and generous in their time and praises. Their approach to helping him get on track, and their advice to me to help in in other ways at home is priceless. Review Update - Response to Owner The extreme inexperience of the staff we had led to misperceptions of our child and what the issues were. Rather than assess the situation herself by meeting with us as we asked, the owner, Karyn, terminated our child's program by email immediately after she learned of our concerns and that her staff person, whom she called the clinical director, wanted to "videotape" a session to prove that our child could do certain things since she said we did not know our own child! LOL. The owner was only out of town for a few days so that had no bearing on any of this. She did not call us or attempt to resolve anything after she became aware of our problem meeting with her staff. There is no excuse for that. As far as her allegations above that we yelled at her staff, that simply never happened. We had one civil meeting with her staff person and no other opportunity to talk to anyone. In fact, in the termination email she sent us, she said that she deemed it necessary to end the program immediately, but added, "If at any time in the future you should determine that our programs and recommendations are compatible with your family's needs, we would be happy to re-evaluate the opportunity to offer support". So she cancelled the program we just invested thousands in without talking to us, but we can come back later if we want to (HUH??). Abruptly cancelling sessions is unprofessional because it is confusing for a child. If you have a child with special educational needs, never be intimidated and look specifically for providers who want to work WITH you. Ask who you will speak with if a problem arises and make sure you meet them. Be wary of programs and people who want a lot of money up front. Since then, we have had a very good long term experience with a small learning center in AG that is personal and multi-sensory, where we have frequent contact with the skilled owner. We don't get passed off to any one. They tailor their service to meet our child's needs as often as is needed, they don't frame it as a "modification to the program". Our child feels secure there and we feel supported as parents. read more
