Beware. If you require complex care, Ugochi Azubuike will abandon you without warning. I had an appointment with Ms. Azubuike and directly after, she terminated care without warning despite being my provider for over a year. Brain Health USA typically offers video appointments but due to complex medical conditions, I requested a reasonable accommodation under the ADA of a phone appointment to reduce symptoms. This became an ongoing issue with Brain Health and the provider. I am still not sure if the provider was the leading issue or the psychiatric center but I found myself having to repeatedly remind the office that my appointments needed to be phone calls for the whole time that I was in her care. At no point was I directly made aware that phone appointments were specifically an issue with her or the office until after care was terminated. She also seemed to have a distinct lack of understanding of very common neurodevelopmental conditions despite having ADHD and other conditions listed under her areas of expertise. It was and still is upsetting to pick a provider that you expect to be kinder, more caring, and aware enough to work with marginalized populations having blatant disregard for you and your life over something as simple as video vs. phone appointments. Her choice to not be directly honest created a prominent setback for my mental health and sent me into complete and daily nervous system dysregulation. I hate leaving bad reviews but people need or know what they're getting with this company. My initial call took over an hour to schedule, which seemed unnecessary. We would end up with 3 different appt's. The first one, the practitioner said we needed a specialist and someone would reach out. No one did, so I had to reach out. We were in a crunch for time and needed the assessment done by a specific date. When I reached back out, they scheduled us with another provider. That was rescheduled to another provider, and that appt was canceled the day of the appt. I'd planned my whole day around this. They didn't even notify me that it was canceled. I called 2 hrs before the appt because I had not received the video conference link. That's when they told me it was canceled. Additionally, the appt they sent me was incorrect. They said it was 12pm PDT, but the appt scheduled didn't match. Even if it was 12 PDT, that would be 3:00 EST. My appt said 4:00 PDT, which would be 7:00 EST! Very confusing!! I've lost 3 weeks at this point. I do not plan on trying for a 4th time and have to request a refund of almost $300. When you call, you'll always be talking to someone over seas. They're polite enough, but the communication breakdown between provider's and the people taking calls/notes is frustrating. I was supposed to start a 6-month residency program as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Brain Health USA and the HR coordinator, Andrew Atef, told me I could start anytime since there was no start date printed anywhere. We agreed over the phone on the 10th of May. Therefore I quit my job of 9 years to start this full time residency only to find out that they weren't ready and stated that they never told me I could start on that day. They, then, told me that they could maybe start me in a few weeks, then it changed to a few months. They are the most disorganized and misleading organization I have ever dealt with in my 23 years of nursing. The other PMHNP, who onboarded ar the same time, can attest to that. Besides giving me the run around and false information, they also tried to backstab me. After I talked with the Director of the Program and told her I needed a contract with all conditions of my employment, if I was to continue the onboarding, and a start date that she eventually forwarded to me in writing. It mentionned that my start date would be on July 1rst 2026. However, a week of onboarding classes was supposed to be attended after the first of July and a course about charting in their EHR was supposed to take place before the start date. Well, no one emailed me or called me for the charting class. The HR coordinator and the Program Director insisted on me checking everywhere to see if I missed the email which I did. It was nowhere to be found. Andrew Atef stated he would look into it, which he never did. Andrew then sent me some emails to verify if I was getting them, which I always had previously. I didn't get the emails. Then, he proceeded to send me a test email which I got. Nothing made sense neither their given information nor their words. After calling the organization that was supposed to send me the email with the link for the class, the organization told me that the login name, emailed to me by Andrew, wasn't even linked to my personal emails but was linked to other private emails, so, I never received their email with the link to join the class because it wasn't sent to me. I then scheduled myself for the next class a week later and I reported this to the Program Director, Gloria, which didn't seem concerned that her program was in such disarray, although she was apologetic and sorry. A few days later, I received a letter that stated I was let go because I fell to finish the onboarding requirement before my start date of May 18. My start date was NEVER May 18, it was May 10, which was postponned to July 1rst by them. So, basically they let me go after being promised a job and quitting my job of nine years, to start a compensated 6-month program due to their own mistakes and disorganization. Now, I am left without a stable job and financial stability. As a new graduate, I have lots of bills including a mortgage, tuitions, and a MD collaborator, that need to be paid. Brain Health USA is the worst disgraceful company I know. If they treat their staff this way, I can only imagine how their patients are treated. What they did to me sounded like a set up. They made a hiring mistake and were not transparent about it. They lied their way up in order to make it sound like I was the problem. But finally, on the hand, they actually did me a favor. Now I look at them as a company that is not worth working for and that will not stand for their future employees and most likely not their patients. I was referred to my provider by my OBGYN during my postpartum. I needed files signed off for my disability extension and my provider told me to email them my paperwork and they can get it processed. However, they sent me an email that I have to get my paperwork signed by a third party company Medlory and that I have to see another provider to get approved and possibly pay $350 for them to file my paperwork. This is so inconvenient and costly and if I knew that they would have to do this then I would have found a different company to undergo my therapy with. read more

I was a patient at this practice for approximately two years and had been prescribed the same long-term medication throughout that time. Recently, the office repeatedly insisted I owed money for a February visit/refill that, according to both my pharmacy records and insurance records, never existed. I repeatedly tried to explain this and provide documentation, including the fact that I had already received prior 90-day override approvals that made their timeline impossible, but no one meaningfully reviewed the records. Despite this, I was repeatedly told I owed money and ultimately felt pressured into making a payment in order to continue receiving my medication or care. I then later received another message claiming I owed additional money in order to avoid cancellation of a Monday appointment that I had never actually confirmed or agreed to schedule. What made this especially upsetting was that this involved continuity of care for a long-term patient. To make matters worse, the actual follow-up appointments were often extremely brief relative to the cost, sometimes lasting only a minute or two before the call ended. This company is manipulative, cruel, and unethical. What they are doing to people who need help is classic insurance gatekeeping for profit. I contacted Brain Health USA for an ADHD evaluation. They are listed as an in-network provider under my Health Net insurance plan. However, I was told by them, without documentation, that my insurance was not accepted for the evaluation. This directly contradicted both Health Net's provider directory and my plan coverage. When I asked for written confirmation or an explanation of denial, I was passed from one staff member to another. After pushing for proof, I was suddenly informed that my insurance was accepted and the service was covered after all. The reversal only happened after I insisted on documentation and contacted my insurer directly. They told me my insurance denied coverage for an ADHD test on July 2. When I contacted Brain Health USA 3 weeks later after contacting my insurance company (who told me they NEVER denied the claim) suddenly, in just three weeks time, they told me my insurance now DOES cover it! What a coincidence! This appears to be an intentional effort to discourage me from using my insurance and pressure me into paying out-of-pocket. I believe this is deceptive, unethical, and potentially a violation of their provider agreement and consumer protection standards. This experience delayed my access to care and caused unnecessary emotional stress during an already vulnerable time. Steer clear of these scammers. After a wonderful first impression, things felt sketchy. My provider would have video appointments, which was ideal, but he would never turn on his camera. My camera was on, but his was disabled. He could've been having my appointment anywhere, I couldn't see that it was just him in the room. Then the same provider was no longer able to send prescriptions to CVS. This seemed like a red flag to me. I did some research and found that there had been a few formal complaints about the provider that went to court. Combined with a few snarky remarks he'd made to me, this just seemed too suspicious to continue. The woman I did talk therapy with was wonderful, she was kind, warm, thoughtful. The team at brain health specifically Dr. Tanya made me feel comfortable and safe from the beginning. Not only was I able to stabilize she became like family . Because of brain healths support I started and completed collage and am now a certified drug and alcohol counselor helping people just like me . I just celebrated six years of sobriety and refer my own clients with medi-cal to them . I am extremely disappointed by how my care has been handled. After canceling three sessions (not consecutively & while being otherwise constant for few months with my appointment) I was moved to a biweekly schedule without really being asked for my input, and then I was ultimately removed from the schedule entirely because of my "cancelations". I have never no showed for an appointment and tried to communicate my availability before hand. I completely understand the need to optimize the staffs schedule. However, the response felt extreme and disproportionate given that these were a few cancellations from a patient who has otherwise been Consistent. What concerns me most is that while I am fortunately in a stable place mentally and this did not significantly impact me, this kind of handling could be much more harmful for a patient who is actively struggling or in a more vulnerable mental health state. For that reason, I do feel this was handled unprofessional. Additionally, I also felt that my sessions with my therapist were often unproductive. Before starting with the practice, I was asked whether I was comfortable seeing an NP in a therapist role, and at the time I agreed because I assumed they would be appropriately trained and capable of providing effective care. However, throughout many of my sessions, I often felt that the space was not being used in a way that was helpful to me. At times, I barely had the opportunity to speak about myself or process my own concerns because the sessions would become focused on the provider's own experiences or unrelated personal oversharing. As a result, I frequently left feeling like the sessions lacked direction and focus. I chose to continue for a few more sessions because I did not want to be hurtful or create problems for the provider by immediately raising a complaint. I also tried to give the process the benefit of the doubt, thinking perhaps rapport was still being built and that the sessions might become more productive over time. I would give more stars but can't. I love my psychiatrist, he's amazing and incredibly helpful and understanding. Some of the staff is great, then there are the ones who are only about the $$$$. I've been a patient on and off for years with this provider office and occasionally experience the greedy portions. I requested from my provider if he could complete FMLA forms for me and possibly a request accommodation for my school because of my autism and adhd. He said go ahead and send the paperwork to the office and they'll complete it and I'll sign for you. I contacted office and sent the Fmla forms, I stated what I needed and that my provider said he'd sign it. The person Jack said in that case send the paperwork and I'll work with you to fill out and have provider sign it. Then I get 5 calls in one hour and an email telling me , no we can't complete these forms and we have to send to a third party medlory and need your consent, they are not covered by insurance so it'll be out of pocket- no cost told nothing. Last time I tried to get paperwork completed it was $350 to complete it, I'm a single income struggling with mental health & was hospitalized as a result of not getting leave approved due to not having the forms completed. All I needed was simple forms completed and they said nope we can't do that our staff is unable to complete - I'm pretty sure that's why the PROVIDER completes it... this has caused me so much stress and anxiety, and has caused me a possible relapse due to the harassing calls from Jack and the greed pushed for me to pay out of pocket hundreds of dollars I don't have. read more

Review on Psyciatry, testing, and therapy Psychiatry: I wasn't able to connect with the first psychiatrist I had, but it was not due to anything she did. When I was ready to ask for a switch, she went on leave, which I assume meant she left the practice. I was placed with someone else, a male provider, and was determined to switch before giving him a chance. I had never had a male provider before, but I am glad I decided to give him a try!! NP Rodney Fox is one of the best providers I have ever had. He was such a good listener and also took the time to explain everything to me. From how the medication works, to potential side effects, and why that would be his recommendation. My favorite thing about him was that he would provide me with options for my care, making me feel in control of my care. I cannot thank him enough! While NP Fox has since left as well, I am now being seen by a new provider, NP Karine Setyan. She is just as amazing! Apart from listening, she is extremely empathetic, and has helped connect me with resources that have been helpful. Testing: I was tested for ADHD through this practice. The process was simple and easy to navigate. The best part? I could take the test on my own time! The follow up was timely and informative. Therapy: I called to schedule a therapy appointment and was coincidentally connected with someone right away. I met with the therapist literally 5 mins after calling (they asked if I was available, I confirmed I was) and the therapist was friendly, thorough and a great listener. At the moment, I have decided not to pursue therapy with this company because they only offer 30 minutes sessions with providers that meet my request: being female and Spanish speaking. Overall: great! Recommend for psychiatry and testing. I'll be taking away a star due to therapy availability. The company being willing to provide me with 30 minutes sessions and trying to get me to change my mind regarding my criteria made me feel like a customer and not a patient. I was fine with a 90 count of 1mg clonazepam until a specific psychiatrist discontinued it because I was in a bad mood due to external factors. The interview did not even last 3 minutes. She took it personal and I find that highly unprofessional. She did not take the time to assess the situation be psychoanalytical.This happened around late year 2021 and since then, my LIFE is on a decline. I LOST my jobs because of this. I had to drop out of college because of this. It is difficult to attain a job because of my social anxiety that I have been dealing with since 2009. I only have two jobs listed on my resume at the age of 34 years old and have not worked since December 2022. That female African-American psychiatrist showed no empathy or remorse.
