Brakes Plus has just given me one of the best auto shop experiences of my life. My brakes started grinding bad two days ago and I knew that the brakes needed work to fix it. So, I went and got it inspected at Midas to get the bare minimum fix for taking away the grinding and keeping the vehicle safe until we trade it in, which will be in a month or two. Midas said that I needed over $800 of work! Brakes Plus is taking care of me for $134 out the door. The mechanic took me outside and explained what legit needs to be done in order to get it safe again and take care of my specific situation. I had an overall good experience at this Brakes Plus this morning. I came in early for my 9am appointment for an oil change and they took me right away. Silas didn't explain to me the final cost of the oil change, so I was a little surprised when he told me that they had to use to higher priced, high mileage, synthetic oil (which is $30 more expensive). The waiting room was fine, and they had a TV playing AFVTV which was interesting. The location is convenient, the parking seriously needs to be repaved, there was plenty of parking, they were open a couple minutes before 8am (thank you), there was free WiFi, and the employees welcomed me in and were friendly and efficient. read more

Very scammy. I requested my oil changed, and they came back with an immediate $4,000+ quote on all these "immediate" and "necessary" fixes. They did not show me any of these fixes and when I told them I recently got a vehicle inspection, which showed no needed repairs, the front desk lady shrugged. She suggested I start now with a few thousand dollars of repair and keep coming in for more, I told her I'd think it over and come back. I decided to take it to Pep Boys down the street, and gave them the estimate for the repairs. They reviewed everything and only suggested a battery replacement (~$200) in the next twelve months. Everything else was normal wear and tear, or a lie. Pep Boys was so much better, they even showed me photos and explained how I did not need any of the services Brakes Plus suggested. I normally wouldn't write a review this bad, but my boyfriend and I have both been to Brakes Plus twice (four times total) - and they've tried forcing us into unnecessary repairs. Not only this, I had a $50 coupon off any service, and they only gave me $30 off. Safe to say, Brakes Plus is pretty scammy, go down the road to Pep Boys for a more honest look on your vehicle. read more

I asked if she knew where he went, I've seen him for years and if he's at another Brakes Plus I'd like to continue seeing him. She said she didn't know. I said someone there must know, like Darius, who's been there for years. She said he's not there, but in a way like I was bothering her, not customer friendly at all. Don't want to deal with that and even though I've gone there for years, I'll find somewhere else to go. ps Two seconds after posting this, I see "Hi, we're very sorry for the less than satisfactory service you received! I wouldn't recommend this location. I've had good experiences at other brakes plus stores, but not this one. I was given a quote to come in at a later time to have some time to think about it, and then they wouldn't honor the quote THEY GAVE ME. Then after the repair, my covers for the wheel well for the shocks and struts weren't put back together. And after all the work is done, I still hear the noise that they said was caused by what needed to be replaced. I am now bringing the car back in for a third time for them to fix or inspect repairs they've already made and supposedly fixed. I attended an appointment with this brakes plus and explained that I needed front brakes replaced and a front end alignment. I explained the bumping in the steering column when breaking and the squealing from the front left tire when turning at low speeds. Upon their inspection, I was told my front brakes were fine with great life still left, however, the inspection showed a need for rear brakes and rotors. I was also told, this was the cause of the steering issues. After returning my car, I drove one block at speed and felt the exact same issue as before. I promptly returned and upon inspection I was told I now need front brakes and I have warping in my front rotors. The service person said, they were wrong. After I reminded him that this is exactly what I told him I needed, he replied, "we can't trust what every customer tells us". Apparently they can't trust their initial inspection process either. He then admitted to me that they aren't perfect and they made a mistake. This mistake, so far, cost me $593.10 of unnecessary repairs that didn't address the original reported issue and repairs request. Now, I'm required to talk to a manager, who wasn't onsite, didn't offer to speak with me while I was present in his store and is now wanting me to meet him tomorrow to "see what we can do to make it right". This is the definition of poor customer service. read more

We have been taking our cars to this location for years. Previous management has always been amazing and our cars have always been in good hands, until now. A mechanic, who is no longer there, failed to secure the splash the guard on my mom's Lexus, leading to it hanging down on the freeway on her way to another city, and destroying it. The mechanic in that city stated and it was the responsibility of the former location to replace it (at their expense). The current management called her about an open ticket on the car and has been giving her lip service since (after the current manager stated he would make it right and fix it). Driving in the mountains this weekend, the other side of the splash guard came down and we had to cut it off it, because it was dragging and damaged that side. Now the lexus is exposed (on both sides in the front) and could end up having more work needed on the car, especially having to endure the elements. Called again, and who ever answered the phone just kind of laughed, when she explained what happened and once again gave her lip service. This has been dragged out for weeks. It is an easy fix, and we do understand it was previous management's doing, it is still the responsibility of this location to correct this problem. This has been going on for weeks and now the car is facing more work needed at our own expense. Please know that I understand mistakes do happen, however, it is the responsibility of the business to make it right. Again, it was an easy fix and now that the car has been exposed this long, it could be a much more expensive fix, that would no doubt be at our expense. read more

I have been taking all my vehicles to this location for several years and I have always had a great experience! The staff has changed but the quality of work and customer service has been consistent throughout. Most notably, I have never had a service or repair for one of my vehicles that didn't fix the problem. So, however big or small your vehicle needs are, Brakes Plus on Briargate is the place to go. 1. They were nice. 2. Labor prices seam fair. 3. Material prices are a joke. Almost 100% mark up and they get from next door. And if you want to go get next door and have them put on they charge a higher labor rate. 4. Then when you call them on it they work with you some but then not take the coupon you have for alignment because they already gave you a discount by only marking up material 40-50% I should have stuck to my gut and went elsewhere. Lesson learned for me. If you don't care about or think this is price gouging by all means use them. I just hope they didn't make up that I needed a new tie rod just to upsell me on my alignment. So as the manager said they charge what they do to keep the lights on. To clarify I am not bashing the workers just the business practices. I know there is mark up in business. Do not go here the employees are either severely incompetent or just negligent. I went to get my rear brake pads replaced Waited about two hours for a call about the inspection but they never called. So i went back just to be told they wouldn't have time to do my brakes that day despite me waiting hours for them to call about the inspection. Prior to being told that they couldn't do my brakes that day the employee quite frankly lied to my face about applying a coupon code and repeatedly quoted me regular prices without the code. I just had an amazing experience with this team, they were quick with an estimate and explained everything. They explained things that were showing up that needed to be fixed but we're not at all a priority. So I was able to prioritize what needed to be done first. Made a next-day appointment online, which was easy & convenient. I asked for an oil change and presented two coupons I printed from their website ($7 off oil change, and extra $5 off for Ladies Day Tuesdays). The man said those would be taken off at the end when the service was completed. When I checked out, the manager only honored one coupon. He explained that he couldn't "double discount" oil changes, but that he could if I got additional services. To me, this is less about a $5 coupon and more an integrity issue. I had both front and rear brake pads and rotors replaced 13 months ago at Brake Plus on Briargate, Colorado Springs, Colorado. Brakes started pulsating when stopping. Took car back to Brake Plus and it appears my rear rotor had not been initially replaced. I was charged over $600.00 for new rear brake pads and rotors. Mind you, both front and rear were replaced at the same time. Front brakes and rotors were smooth and good however, the rear brakes were low and the rotors had deep grooves in them. The rotors were not replaced. They were the cars original rotors. Vehicle had less than 10k miles driven on them and a little over a year on my vehicle. The store Manager, Silas Valdez, told me, "brakes and rotors wears out in 12 to 13 months however, my front brakes and rotors were still brand new. Brakes Plus were going to charge me another $1352.00, to redo my rear rotors that I already paid for a little over a year. BTW, the manager said a small rock got between my rotors and brake pads....which caused the deep grooves in the rotors? Bottom line, do not trust this BP! read more

I took my car in and paid close to $700. to get my brakes fixed. Later that day, I heard horrible noises coming from the front end. I took the car back in the next day, they told me to make an appointment and the earliest was 5 days away and that it would be safe to drive Instead, I took it to the Nissan dealer to get checked. They discovered that the "caliber nuts" had not been tightened down all the way. Which could have resulted in a bad accident Car owners be aware! read more

I am not one to usually leave reviews, especially about places where I expect bad service to begin with but my experience at this brakes plus location was even worse than expected. I usually always work on my own cars until it comes down to an alignment. Then I have a good friend throw my cars on his rack and pay him to do it for me, as I can only do so much with measuring tapes and my eyeballs. I lifted my 4runner and the alignment was so toed in that the tires were starting to burn rubber while driving because everything was so far off. I decided to call the nearest brakes plus as it was the closest shop I could drive to without feeling like my 4runner was going to explode. I spoke with the service manager Dario and we scheduled an appointment for 4:30 PM. Later that day I show up at 4:10 PM and was greeted by the salesman, who told me after I said I would be waiting in their lobby "we will let you know if we can get it in today, we were waiting on parts for other cars". To which I responded, you have cars waiting for parts sitting on the alignment rack instead of pulling them out and working on something else? I asked to speak to Dario, who came out and told me there was a misunderstanding and they totally would get my car in, but that it may be closer to 4:45-5:00PM. I said that was fine and I didn't expect the car to be in right at 4:30, but that when I schedule an appointment and you tell me I may wait around until close and leave empty handed it's frustrating. After Dario walks away a gentleman in the lobby tells me about how this location used to be so good, but how he's in because he got his brakes done by them, and his parking brake wasn't working when they returned it to him. He said they screwed him over the last time he came about a month ago also. at 5:51 I get a call back from brakes plus saying there are things preventing them from doing the alignment and to come take a look at it. When I get down there, the alignment tech takes the longest pry bar you have ever seen, puts it underneath my wheel, and jumps and hangs on the pry bar to get the balljoint to move the tiniest bit. it is my understanding that under up and down movement, ball joints are supposed to compress and move a slight amount, as that is why they are a joint and not a solid bushing. pushing back and forth on the wheel the night before gave me zero ball joint play and it is not a part that is going to stop brakes plus from aligning the car. Dario told me that even after I replace the ball joint myself i'll have to align it again, which is not true. the ball joints on these cars are pressed into their own knuckle assembly that comes out in 4 bolts and goes right back in, which does not mess with the eccentric alignment bolts in the lower control arm. Dario then has his tech yank back and forth on my wheels while it is in the air to say my rack and pinion has play in it. the rack and pinion was a lower mile rack from a different 4runner, installed by me with a new steering shaft and fresh poly bushings, so this was not even the slightest of my concern. after going in circles with Dario, in the heat of the argument he admitted that they called me 10 minutes after they got the car in the shop. I showed him our phone logs and told him that they probably were looking for reasons to not do my truck because they got it in at 5:40. I explained to him that if they had gotten my car in at even 4:45 or 5 they could have given me a courtesy call, and we could have had the adult conversation about how my alignment wasn't going to be perfect, but it would be better than it was so that I could at least take it down to my buddy's shop. They just wanted me gone, and tried to give me the run around on things that don't have to do with my alignment. Terrible experience. Do not come here. If a simple alignment is too much for them to understand, I can not imagine how they treat the poor guy who is getting his subarus motor worked on. read more

Brought my 1990 Ford Mustang 5.0L Fox Body for wheel bearings replacement. It has been in Honolulu Hawaii for 11 years. Drove it here and noticed steering wheel shaking at high speeds above 60 mph. Glad to have met Dario who cares and loves classic vehicles. He did a check up and determined that wheel bearings are still good and needed an alignment. He made sure the vehicle was operating properly having his Saturday crew take out for a road test before I picked up vehicle. He even was able to do a Coolant Flush at the last minute when I called 4 hours before closing. I appreciate the Passion Dario and crew showed taking care of my vehicle. Our family has been going to this Brakes Plus location for many years as they have had good prices and got the work done reasonably well. However, the last several visits have been in decline, even costing more than a "premium" shop that I had used. I suspected a change of management or some such thing, but continued to go, as they were close, and unlike the premium shop, had capacity to service my car the same-day. I have never posted on Yelp before but this last experience has pushed me over the edge. I try to do most of my own auto work, scanning the codes, watching the how-to videos, and buying the parts. Having a second family car has provided the buffer to order parts and take a few days to do the fix. However that second car was not available to me when my Mazda decided to start stalling and idling rough. Not being able to find my $20 scan tool to read the code, and it being on a Friday I decided to take it in to Brakes Plus for a quick repair. I knew I would pay a big premium, but I never imagined . . . Cut to the chase: I paid over $530 for Brakes Plus to read a code and install a generic MASS air flow sensor - work that I would have done, and could have easily done for $25 and 15 minutes of my low skilled labor! I was charged the full diagnostic fee of $99, $300 for a generic part, $82 for removing two screws and a cable plug ("labor"), $20 for "fluids and supplies" that were not used, and a $2 disposal fee for throwing the old part in the trash can! My $20 code reader would have showed the same "MASS air flow sensor error" with which I would have ordered a top rated generic new one for less than $25. True, I would have had to wait a day or two for the part to ship from Amazon, but the job was the easiest possible on this Mazda - easier - much easier - than changing an air filter. I do understand and always expect to pay a "large" repair bill, but I was, as they say, "Gouged." No more, and never again. One star rating is given by Yelp which doesn't count, so I gave one star for actually fixing the problem and also providing a Lyft to drive me home. I guess they can afford a Lyft ride out of their enormous profits. read more

Walking to my car I saw a piece hanging underneath. It was Saturday afternoon and I remembered seeing this Brakes Plus store near my apartment. I stopped in and asked if they could look at it. The man at the counter was very courteous and said they could. About 10' later one of the guys from the shop brings me my keys and said it was all fixed. A skid plate had come unbolted so he found some bolts and secured it back in place. They didn't even charge me for the repair! It's a huge relief for me to have that fixed. I so appreciate the help! So far, so good. I've heard horror stories of places like these, but I've never had a problem. Our car got the original work on brakes and axles done at another location, this location made repairs and replacements in honor of their warranty for free. We had an axle and boot completely replaced because it went bad in under a week, either from parts or labor. Then we also had shims put in to keep our brakes from rubbing the car in the wrong places. All free and all done well. The guys here have been nothing but helpful and friendly from the few experiences we've had with them. Glad this is our nearest location and that they've been so good to us thus far. read more

Had them fixing some bolts on my tires from them being broken by discount tire so they were doing it for free. Throughout my time there, somehow my car racked up supposedly $1400 worth of work after their assessment on the car. Went to get a second opinion and found that none of that work actually needed to be done. They said my brakes were at the "end" and needed to be replaced immediately and come to find out they are not even halfway used. How sick to prey on young girls. I'm not dumb. Terrible customer service, terrible communication. I can't speak to the quality of work because after 4.5 hrs of sitting at /walking around the store they never were able to even locate the part that they promised me 3 different times in the 4.5 hours was only 15 minutes away. This all after I told them multiple times that I was taking a trip and was on a serious time crunch. They basically held my car hostage and provided no feedback without me having to directly ask myself. During that time i saw a couple dozen cars go in and out of their garage. I finally asked them to lower my vehicle and give it back because of how long, inefficient and unhelpful they were. I would never take my car to this location (or any brakes plus based on my experience). If I could give 0 stars I would. The person responsible for this really awful service is Greg. Service was ok, got my car about 30-45 minutes early but still got charged for labor. I was charged extra because my car was European but that was never discussed over the phone or in person when I picked up my car which is very misleading and not very professional. If you are going to charge extra for a type of car, it should be stated before agreeing to move forward with the maintenance. So based off of the invoice vs the prices stated, I was roughly over charged $150-200, and that is even after a 'military discount'. Thank you for fixing my brakes and recommending me replace all of them when only one was bad but I think I will go elsewhere next time I need maintenance done to my vehicle. read more

Short Version (TL;DR) - Do not do business with Brakes Plus. - Updated. So I had my Toyota Tacoma at the dealership for my pre-paid routine service and inspection. They said everything looked good except my front brakes which needed servicing and they quoted a price. I thought it was expensive so I took it the next day to Brakes Plus to get their brake special $149. They "evaluated" my truck and came up with over $500 of additional critical work that "needed" to be done. I called the dealership, and they said they had not missed any other brake problems and their estimate of what work needed to be done stood. So, I took the truck down to Meineke to have them look at the truck and give me an estimate. They agreed with the Toyota dealership that the front brakes needed work and the rears were fine - total work needed was less than $200. Again, more than $500 less than the "needed" work according to Brakes Plus. Also, after Brakes Plus evaluated my truck, I got into the cab to drive off and I smelled cigarette smoke very strongly (as if someone had been smoking inside my truck or very close to the truck with windows and doors open.) I am allergic to cigarette smoke and immediately started getting a migraine - a nice way to top off their questionable business practice. In my opinion (and confirmed by the Toyota Dealership and Meineke) Brakes Plus estimate of "needed" brake work included a lot of work that two other reputable places insisted was unnecessary - and I got a cigarette smoke smelling vehicle which activated my allergies in the bargain. By the way, Brakes Plus solution to the cigarette smoke issue was to ask if I wanted air freshener - which only masks the odor and doesn't actually get rid of the smoke particulates which CAUSE the allergic reaction. So I stood in a cold parking lot with all 4 doors of my truck open until the air circulated enough for me to drive to Meineke. Do not do business with this company. In my opinion they invented problems or "work" that "needed" to be done in order to charge the customer more. And they are not careful with their employees and the customers vehicle. To be fair, after this review was published a regional manager contacted me to offer to pay for a detail to my truck to eliminate the smoke smell. I refused the offer because I didn't want any financial renumeration (for or against) to color my experience. I have no financial interest for or against Brakes Plus - this is simply my experience and opinion (and it stands as written). read more

I was feeling under the weather and decided to get an estimate for a brake job rather than do it myself for my wife's car. Since I had to be down by chapel hills mall anyway, I picked brakes plus. They gave me a song and dance about how the fronts were metal on metal and the back brakes were totally shot too and for $850 and some extras they could hook me up. Well when the told me the back brakes were bad too, I knew they were lying, for a car that hasn't had brakes done before, the rears are rarely in bad shape as the front. They seemed surprised when I passed on having them fix it. That must have pissed them off, because they made sure to hammer the lug nuts on as hard as they could with the impact (which will damage the rotors), I managed to get most off, but going down to discount tire and see if they can get off one of the security lug nuts that they jacked up in the process. I did get the other wheels off, the fronts were still serviceable from minimum pad depth (and not metal on metal), but it was due for a brake job and the rotors looked good but were just at minimum thickness, so I replaced those as well. So it was due for a front brake job, but the backs were more than fine, with probably 70% pad left. Normally I am cautious with these kind of shops, but normally they are good at what they do at a fair price. Sometimes they might try to charge you for extras but as long as you get an estimate first, you are usually good. But the bit with them over tightening the lug nuts to try to get even for not giving them business, that means you shouldn't even trust them for even an estimate. So in the end, they lied, tried to rip me off, and then made sure to try to screw me and damage my car when I wouldn't have them do the job. I'm not sure it gets much worse than that. read more
