Such a lovely spot to hang out! Space is flexible to accommodate 2 to 10 people comfortable. Noise level is perfect for conversing, place is lit up with candles hence a soft light. I had the cheese and ham plates here and they were always good. My friends come here every week and they never get tired of it. I loved walking into the restaurant - going down into a "secret" entrance, pulling back the velvet curtain, stepping into the candle lit space with brick and arches and doors leading to .. who knows. Almost like being on a game of thrones set. The drinks were awesome, as a bartender I love a good craft cocktail - I had the salty cat, very refreshing. The menu seemed limited, especially for me - I don't eat pork or beer and there were a decent amount of items with those ingredients; so we went "basic" and got chicken fingers hoping they were scratch kitchen made, nope. Def frozen/made somewhere else. Waffle fries were good, but again, I don't think they were made there. We also had the portabello sandwich - it was dressed right, flavors were good...but the star was the seasoned homemade chips! Finally something I would expect from a place like Bramhall! Went for happy hour, think it was $5 for a Pilsner- not the biggest selection. And $5 house wine. I stuck with wine. They had some apps too on special- a Thai savory Rice Krispie, and frito pie, didn't care for either, but I'm biased and typically eat really good Thai and have had NM frito pie. What a great find! A couple weeks ago, my wife and I came to Portland for a weekend getaway. We heard about this place, but never had the chance to stop by. So glad we did! Having stopped at a few different restaurants that evening already, we were only planning on stopping in and having a beer before calling it a night. But this place was so cool and cozy that we ended up not only staying for a couple beers, but ordering food even though we had been stuffing our faces the entire night. Everything about this place was on point. The staff was incredibly accommodating and friendly. The decor was super cool with it's brick archways and giant brick "candle pit"? Very warm environment. Terrible service. We had a few cocktails in mind, but had a few questions about some ingredients. When asked about the bar's signature cocktails, our server had no idea what was in any of them, yet acted like a pretentious know-it-all the whole time. Curious about the beers on tap and what white rums were available, because the menu wasn't clear, I walked over to the bartender. He said "if it's on the menu we have it. If not, we don't" The bartender decided to focus on cleaning the entire bar off while we were waiting for our drinks to be made. Our drinks took about 15 minutes on a slow Tuesday night. However they had an assortment of complete games which was great, and they weren't super crowded, we got spots right away on a Friday night. read more

Nice space, ok food, good service, absolutely ridiculous seating. The stools are so small you may want to bring your own thimble to sit on so you can spread out a bit more than their seats will allow. May go back and sit at the bar for a drink but this is mostly a place to come with your friends and get drunk. read more

We just had after dinner drinks after having a phenomenal birthday dinner for my boyfriends birthday with an exceptional server named Catie. We went down stairs promptly after dinner with a recommendation from her, and stood by the bar. The bartender was clearly busy so we grabbed a menu ourselves and took a look at the cocktails. While my boyfriend was asking a question, the bartender abruptly stated we should have a seat at the table if we want drinks. A server could take care of us because he didn't have the time. I honestly wanted to leave at this point, but my boyfriend wanted to stay, so I asked him if we should get a table because I was uncomfortable. He didn't want to because we were just getting drinks (which makes sense now thinking back on it.) I said we should just leave because I felt so unwelcomed but he said let's wait for our friends who were talking upstairs to come down. This is where the review turns extremely positive. Chef Ron, their brand new executive chef, stepped in, cleared off a dirty section of the bar, cleaned it, took our drink order, apologized for the bartender, and took care of our entire parties drinks. He was the epitome of hospitality and is the primary reason I will return to this establishment. As a leader he represented your brand with the utmost professionalism and I have full faith that he will correct the major concern that happened tonight. The decor and atmosphere really makes this bar feel like a 1920s speakeasy. From descending down the stairs to the basement, you enter a brick covered bar with low lights and even bathtubs behind the bar. I was hesitant to try the new Bramhall because most reviews were from a few months ago and didn't mention the food. The 4 of us were looking for a cool, casual place to have a few drinks and get dinner. Bramhall was amazing! We arrived about 5:45 and immediately got a table (it is seat yourself) we were quickly provided with water and drinks from the bar. The cocktails were delicious and creative. We ordered the meat and cheese plate and cheese crisps (nachos) as appetizers. Most were fantastic and arrived quickly for the kitchen. We then each ordered a different sandwich off the menu...again awesome! The menu is small and mostly consists of appetizers (salads, nachos, hummus plate, meat and cheese plate) and entrees which are all pub sandwiches with a twist. Example: my husband had the Chicken Confit BLT on a fresh hoagie with sriracha mayo. The best part though is truly the atmosphere. Down in the the basement....the acoustics are great. The place was packed....but not noisy. The candles, bricks, wooden tables all are great touch. Our server was the best server I've had in a very long time. He wa funny, charismatic, attentive....all the things you would want. Bramhall is doing it right! Don't hesitate to visit for some pub grub and good drinks! read more

We visited this bar in August 2015 and what a different setting it provides. You walk into a basement/dungeon type setting which is a really cool sight to see. The lighting and ambiance are much different from anywhere I have been outside of Europe. The music was just a little too loud for what we were looking for that night but not so loud that we couldn't hear each other talk. I am an "Old Fashioned" drinker and had read about their cocktail lists and bartenders and still, all the good things I had read didn't match my experience. I ordered an Old Fashioned from our server a very specific way: I asked for the bartender to select a bitters other than angostura, have it not muddled, and use orange/lemon peel only coating the top with the oils. The bartender, Gigi, came over to my table and explained that she wanted to know exactly how i wanted my drink and gave me all the options for bitters and offered up some bourbons to taste that I had not yet had in the past. I have never experienced that kind of service in my life, I was extremely impressed. The only thing I could say that would knock my rating down to 4.5 stars is the music being a tad loud that night. Most exceptional bar service I have ever received. Next time I'm in Portland we will once again be stopping in for a night. read more
