Can you really tell the difference? Maybe points are involved. I wanted a location between Pasadena and Burbank for tours. This place is perfect. I'm not sure about parking. I Lyft in a strange city. Place is clean, small, and you will have to climb some steps to get in, a full flight. But if you're into unique, this is a great one. read more

This is a nice centrally located hotel, with well appointed rooms, comfortable beds and pillows. I was in Glendale, my hometown, to celebrate my sister's milestone birthday (75) though the lack of an elevator presented an inital challenge with luggage for us senior gals (room was on on the second floor & we did receive help upon arrival) and had to ask upon departure. The most dissapointing aspect is that on Sunday before leaving for what was a 15 hour adventure, I did indicate that we wanted our room made up by leaving towels on the bathroom floor as directed. Upon return at 9 in the evening, it was obvious that our room was not cleaned, and we were too tired to address it. At check out, we rang the bell, and the person person helping us was not interested in our concern, noted my bill was already paid, and went in back. Today, the hotel had no compunction about adding the water we consumed to my bill. I really felt that customer service could have been much better, and an explanation as to why our room was not cleaned was in order. This is why I am only giving a 3 star rating. read more

This is a very nice, small hotel. It is very centrally located. The rooms are nice. The staff was very cordial. Parking is behind the hotel and is $8 per night, however street parking is available and only .50 for two hours after 8am. The only drawback is the stairs you must climb to get to the lobby. The stairs could be a problem with older people. read more

This hotel feels like a small European hotel, no elevator but clean and well maintained. There is a Portos bakery in the same block with lots of outdoor seating, adding to that feeling. There are lots of other restaurants across the street too. A charge of $8 for parking is much less than the $25 charged by other big hotels in the area. All in all, we found the room to be very comfortable and plan to stay at the Brand again. read more

Just spent a night there this weekend, trying to get away from the heat. The AC was amazing. The room was nice and dark throughout the night. It is close by to a lot of the businesses in Glendale, so it's very walkable if that's what you're there for. The bed was extremely uncomfortable and ridiculously loud. Every time I rolled the bed made a lot of noise. The parking situation was a little weird. We found the room through expedia and made sure to filter for a parking lot. When we got there we were able to park at the bank parking lot, behind the hotel, for checking in. After that we had to move the car across the street from the cities public parking. It seemed like that the parking lot they used was also for an other separate business but I'm not 100% sure. Would definitely go back if desperate but next time I'll probably try and find someplace else to stay. read more

Booked this via Expedia and for one nights stay it wasn't' a bad price. It was close to where I had to work, freeways and two malls and tons of restaurants and shops all with in walking distance. Portos is 3 doors down and if you know anything about Portos..I'm just saying.. So that others don't complain or say they didn't know, this hotel has no elevator. It's a no frills place, but it was did me just fine. I'm not one that spends a whole lot of time in a hotel when I'm traveling. It was adequately sized for me. I think this used be a happening hotel when the Bar and grill was open next door. I thought the decor was cute. and yes the rooms can be a little small but I thought charming and if you are coming from NY its as big if not a bit bigger for some studios. Staff is ok, but what young 20s something want to run their parents hotel, but nice enough. The morning staff seemed a bit chipper. This hotel served its purpose in that we had a roof over our heads while on vacation but I will warn anyone who cannot trek up flights of stairs at a time, that this hotel will not be for you. I read previous reviews before booking this place and thought it shouldn't be too hard but even my husband who works out all the time found it to be quite inconvenient. I mean, who wants to work out during their vacation, right? Now if the stairs weren't so steep, it wouldn't be such a big deal but carrying all our luggage up them was not an easy feat. Then on our first night there, the AC made a noise that caused us both to shoot up out of bed because we thought the fire alarm went off. But no, it was just the AC having a whole mid-life crisis. And I could have dealt with all of that if the walls weren't so thin - we could hear all our neighbors talking and their tvs on all night long as I'm sure they could also hear us. Clean, quiet and cozy boutique hotel. It's located in downtown Glendale and therefore it's next to lots of restaurants and grocery stores. Front desk is polite and check in process was smooth. I particularly liked the room decor, the comfy bed and Victorian style curtains. My room came equipped with a 32 inch rotatable flat screen TV, an alarm clock, a coffee maker, Rowenta Master Valet Garment Steamer, luggage rack, full length mirror, hair dryer, mini fridge (stocked with NOT FOR FREE energy drinks and soda), nice smelling complimentary toiletries, hamper basket with NOT FOR FREE snacks. The only downsides with this place is they charge a $100 deposit at check in, no microwave in the room, no swimming pool, no fitness center and no laundry room. The bath tub is slippery and there is no rubber bath tub Matt. Also the rooms are small with no much space! All in all I enjoyed my stay here and I would not hesitate to come back again because I slept peacefully thanks to comfy bed and NO noisy guests. The Hotel Brandwood is a nice boutique-style option in a fun commercial area of Glendale. We stayed there while in town for the Rose Bowl, and we found it easy to check in, park, and check out. The room was smaller than many other hotels, but everything was clean and there was no noise even though the hotel was sold out both nights. Be aware of a couple of things that you might not expect for a hotel stay. First, the hotel is located on the upper floors of their building, and there a couple of flights of stairs you have to climb to get to the front desk and then to your room. Also, the parking is free, a plus for the LA area, but is in a public garage about 2 blocks from the hotel, not onsite. Both of these worked fine for us, but might be difficult for those who are less mobile. read more

The stairs were a nightmare to carry luggage. Was disappointed from the min walking into the door. The room is small the prices are ridiculous for the snacks being provided. Truly unhappy with the stay I had at this place. 1) the parking is about 2 blocks away from the hotel and it's in a super sketchy parking lot that honestly made me feel concerned about leaving my car parked there over night. Having to walk all the way to the hotel from the parking lot with all of my bags was incredibly inconvenient and just frustrating. 2) when you walk in, you literally feel like you're in a different era but NOT in a good way. If I'm being honest, this place gave me the creepiest vibes and I didn't even want to stay there anymore after walking in and feeling the aura it had in that building. 3) the one & only reason I was staying in a hotel is because the bathroom in my home is currently being remodeled. That being said, the only thing I needed was a shower... When I woke up in the morning to take a shower before work I turned on the shower & had it running for over 15 minutes & the water was still ice cold. I called the front desk & asked them if they had hot water or what the deal was and I was told that they called a technician to fix the issue. So I had to start my morning with a fresh, crisp, ice cold shower after having trouble falling asleep the night before because of the creepy vibes of this outdated establishment. 4) every single time someone shut their door (or slammed it), it made the whole wall shake and the noise was so loud it wakes you up super early in the morning from all the early birds. You can pretty much hear everything going on in the hotel at any given time. Would I recommend staying here? Cons: Spotty internet, saw tiny roaches, thin walls, no elevator, parking few blocks away. Tiniest refrigerator, no microwave. Thin walls. Old towels. --------- I was going to stay here around for 2 weeks while traveling because of the price + cheap parking. As everybody stated, parking is few blocks away but I felt safe walking back and forth from there. You have to climb either 2-3 flights of stairs no matter what (no ground floor) so be aware of that. The hotel lobby is in the 2nd floor. I had a lot of problems with the wifi (I think their router is old and losing data packets). I have to constantly reconnect and disconnect every 30 minutes or so. It starts from 30-60 mbps download speed and dwindles down to .15 mbps in after awhile so their internet connection is fast, just router is the main issue. Heads up to anybody who plan on working here. Luckily my office is in the city so I can drive in but it takes like an hour so not ideal. I'm hotspotting off of my phone for meetings because wifi here is unreliable. Also super thin walls. I woke up to someone else having fun time in the next room and I can also hear their music/tv so heads up. My last straw was when I saw 2 tiny roaches in the bathroom 2 days in a row. I've been hotel hopping a lot but haven't seen roaches ever in a hotel, even shittier ones. Then the refrigerator stopped working and all of my food got lukewarm. They placed me in another room but then I got a view of a wall and also the room had been very obviously bed bug treated which wasn't a great sign (nobody has bed raisers unless they had issues with bed bugs. Plastic wrapping still over the foundation, mattress cover). Also big closet but it's super tall, is it made for giants? I will say people working here were SUPER nice and helpful. They allowed me to cut my stay short and get a full refund for that portion of the stay. read more

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. I loved the atmosphere, the beautiful artwork, and the cute room. The lighting in the room is nice. The bathrooms are very clean. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Warning, there are a lot of stairs. If you're a person who doesn't like stairs you'll probably have a bad time. If you're a whiney person who likes to complain, don't stay here because you're going to end up annoying everyone on earth. But if you're an adult who has grown up past such things then you'll have a really great time. I didnt see elevators, I may have missed them, but if I didn't then I would probably not recommend this particular hotel to the lame or infirm, unless you have someone willing and able to carry you up and down the stairs. All that being said, this I'd a really enjoyable hotel and I can honestly say that it's a personal favorite of mine. I really enjoy seeing their artwork and being surrounded by beauty. The rooms are a tad bit small, so I wasn't able to work out, but that's okay, because it is truly a very cozy place. But it's probably better suited for a short term rather than long term. The only other complaint I do have is the shower. Which I sincerely hope was unique to room 209 and that the rest of the rooms have better showers. Yikes, you were basically either having glacial ice water pounding you like some kind of polar bear swimmer, or you're jumping aside to avoid being melted in lava like heat. The stairs are a bit tough. It's 2 flights of seemingly 45° angle to get to the front desk. It'll make you out of breath if you're lugging a lot of stuff or are not physically capable. read more

We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel. We'd had a not-so-great time at the Glendale Express hotel, and decided to try this one for our last night in Glendale. We wished we had booked this one instead for the whole stay! The beds were so comfortable, and were clean. The carpet did have some old stains, but we could overlook that. The shower had great water pressure and was also very clean. Furniture was old but in a Victorian/antique style, which is just our aesthetic. We didn't use the mini bar but I did notice a couple snacks and sodas were expired, so I'd say check those before consuming. Our last 2 hotels had the worst television service, so it was nice to actually have a real set with real channels here. The negatives: there is no elevator, so dragging luggage up the stairs was inconvenient, and those stairs are *steep*. There is no onsite parking, your options are to park in the Sears lot at California and Orange, or use the Bank parking lot in the back of the hotel. The bank lot is recommended as it is way more convenient than dragging luggage from 2 blocks away. The staff is courteous and helpful, no complaints there. Overall, this was a very nice place to stay and we would definitely stay here again. It's also on a street lined with restaurants so that's a huge plus for us. The room was fine, and the staff at the front desk was very helpful. The only problem is that we were not warned ahead of time that the hotel is a 2nd and 3rd floor establishment (did not check for a 4th floor) with NO elevator access. The "1/2" in the street address should have been a clue-- an old California tradition in naming residences above street level. So--- bags had to be hauled up and down a total of 32 steps to get to and from the front desk. There was nothing in the website information to give a clue that this was the set up. Not user friendly to older folks, and especially not accessible (ADA compliant). Too bad. read more

Stayed here for one night and that's pretty much the last time I'll ever stay. It is listed as a boutique hotel but it feels more like an old apartment building lodged between a bank and a restaurant. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything going on. It smells like old, dusty carpet and it looks haunted. The worst part is that the parking is more than a block away on some random lot and if that isn't bad enough, just wait until you get to the steep stairwell. Walking in I was already out of breath from the stairs. I knew what i signed up for as it said no elevators prior to booking. So to all the people complaining about stairs, shut up because you knew prior to booking they literally said no elevators!!! It made me uncomfortable but I didn't let that interaction ruin my stay as he did his job somewhat kindly. Going into my room I was content. They had snacks but they were pricy (as any hotel would) and they have a fully functional tv. What made my stay a little iffy was how thin the walls were and how noisy the AC was. I kept in mind the hotel is almost 100 years old but I think they should do something about the AC. I kept waking up from the loud thuds the ac would make and that says a lot as I'm quite the heavy sleeper. The bathroom was great but again the bathroom fan was making a screeching noise.... No big deal though as it wasn't a necessity. Something else to add is that they don't provide towels, only robes. I'd love to add that they provide is a temporary luggage holding room! They were life savers as I had no where to put my things after check out! They were amazing at keeping it safe!! Honestly, the hotel did it's job and I would come here again. DO NOT STAY HERE!!! The people working here are scammers. If I could rate negative stars I would. They took my direct deposit of $150 and accused me of smoking and stealing one of their robes. I don't even smoke and itd be stupid to steal anything from a hotel room during covid. The hotel was fine. They have no elevator and very steep stairs and I didn't mind it given the price and location, but taking my direct deposit was really the cherry on top. I called the manager and was greeted with attitude, unprofessionalism, and accusations with absolutely no proof. I asked for their names and they both gave me the same fake name. "John D." I asked them to send me pictures of the proof they have of me smoking in the room and they've hung up in my face every time I've tried to call back. An employee of the hotel followed behind us and didn't offer to carry the bag. We are in our late 60's and it's difficult. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I enjoyed my stay at Hotel Brandwood and would definitely recommend it to friends and relatives. It was centrally located to several freeways, cheaper than a more high-profile city, and in downtown Glendale which offered a multitude of dining and entertainment options all within walking distance. The offsite parking was a bummer and the lack of elevators could be a problem for some. Aside from Chris being amazing and helpful in every way he absolutely has the hotel in prime condition, while also catering to every need or question a person may have. Hotel has a great location, awesome service, and is very clean. The hotel has a very home like vibe which makes you never want to check out! DO NOT BOOK HOTEL BRANDWOOD THE STAFF AND MANAGERS WILL SCAM YOU OUT OF YOUR DEPOSIT. The staff as a whole are a bunch of opportunistic scammers. They took my deposit because they accused us of stealing a robe and smoking in the room. When we checked in, there was only 1 robe. When we called about our deposit they said that we stole a robe. We asked how many robes are supposed to be in the room, the manager said 2 and when we said there was only 1 robe he dismissed us and just kept saying "this is why you sign the contract when you check in" I tried pleading my case and the manager said "I deal with people like you everyday you stole a robe we take your deposit". And for the smoking part we did not smoke in the hotel room at all. If we really want to smoke badly in the room I would have gotten a smoking room, the price difference was around $15 - $20 it is not a big deal for me. We did not smoke in the room. The staff, especially the managers are rude from the second they answer the phone, unprofessional and they are bunch of thieves. I asked them to send me the report and the manager that I talked to was very dismissive and said "I will send you the report to your email" but he did not ask for my email, I did not provide an email upon checking in, and he just hung up the phone while I was still talking to him.
