He is a master of his craft, and this is an art form that is all but disappearing since everything is being made by machines nowadays. He does it all by hand with a keen eye and experience. He's a very friendly guy who welcomed us and was easy to talk with. He gave us a history of his business, how he came about to doing this, and showed us some the items he was restoring. He does a wonderful job, and his work speaks for itself. It's such an old school type of shop and we loved his stories, along with chatting about business in general.

The store attendant/owner was incredibly rude to my partner - a polite inquiry about the price of a piece and any possible discount was met with an exaggerated exclamation of "No! No!" and being instructed with a bit of a condescending tone to put the piece back. A far kinder and more respectful response would have been more appropriate, welcoming, and effective (something like the following would have been more called for: 'no, I'm sorry that is the price I must sell it for, let me know if you're still interested or if i can show you another piece at your price point'). After the reaction, as my partner was putting the piece back and we were already moving toward the door leaving, the attendant/owner half-heartedly offered the piece could still be had (for the stated price), but the damage was already done. Though it is hard to know for certain, and she could have been having a bad day or have this character with everyone and would like to give benefit of the doubt, it is possible that there were some unconscious racial dynamics involved as my partner is a Person of Color. My partner felt deeply embarrassed/humiliated and upset - and the incident left a bad taste. Warning to others and suggest the owner/attendant to examine their behavior toward customers and to treat them with respect and kindness.

Properly labeled tags which tell you what the item is and how much it is are shown, which is rare to begin with. CONS: I know this place is an antique store but it is not kept clean and the place is unorganized. Their selection is also not extensive. Since the room isn't that big their selection is very small. In the area they're obviously the go-to spot for antiques but in general I'm not usually impressed. OVERALL: The main reason for why I'm giving them 4 stars is their hospitality, the items they have, and their labeling generosity. As for the a amount of inventory and their layout, that's why they don't have the top rating. I would go in just to check them out, but don't get your hopes up.

But for smaller sales - this might not be the place. I wanted to update my bedroom with a few new pieces. Came with measurements and a floor plan and my designer came up with a really creative way to set up my room. Sounds great - right? It was, until when the furniture was delivered, I discovered my designer had ordered the wrong size dresser/chest unit. It fits in my room but not in the way I thought it could be arranged. I called the store immediately, the designer came to the phone but offered no apologies, no options. It's a custom piece, of course, so I can't return it. But I am deeply disappointed and will not use this particular Ethan Allen again. Buying furniture should be fun - and for the price, their customers should be thrilled with how the room turns out. I can't dump tens of thousands on furniture right now - there will be plenty of business for them over time.
