We have been here a couple of times and the experience is always good. The prices tend to be high, so we rarely buy anything. There are lots of booths that are well organized with lots of different items. The lines can be long at checkout, but that doesn't affect us because we rarely buy anything, but you be on notice about the wait time. I can't say enough about this antique store. We travel about the country going to antique malls looking for treasures. This store is organized and clean. The staff is super friendly and kind. They are dog friendly--at least small dog friendly I don't know about big dogs. They had carts for purchases. The bathroom was big and clean. And the merchandise was very eclectic and interesting. Prices varied but most super affordable. Can't wait until my next trip to KC. read more

Think twice before working here I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for stable, fair, or respectful work. The management plays favorites, ignores obvious issues, and treats staff like disposable labor. Professional standards are low -- many employees would not pass a drug test, and leadership turns a blind eye until it's convenient to single someone out. They rely heavily on other sellers and ads from outside vendors to bring in customers instead of building a strong business themselves, so when things go wrong, they deflect blame instead of fixing problems. If you value a respectful, consistent workplace where your time and effort are respected, you should look elsewhere. This environment is toxic, unprofessional, and completely avoidable. read more

I don't usually head out this way, but impulsively stopped by while driving through. I was not disappointed! This place really is everything you could want from an antique store and more! So many nice pieces for sale. I always go thrifting or to antique stores while traveling and this has to be one of the most impressive ones I've been to. I visited right before Christmas, so it was busy, but the staff were cheerful and kind. I found exactly what I was looking for in multiple sections, so I could pick which ones had the best price. We have been going to the Brass Armadillo malls for many years. Since moving to Missouri 7 years ago we have frequented the mall in Grain Valley. Initially it was nice, full of a big variety of antiques and we would always find something or multiple things we just had to have. We stopped in last evening after not having been here in over a year. What a disappointment! It is now almost completely filled with newer collectibles and junk. Very little in the way of actual antiques. If you collect hot wheels, star wars, rocks, etc (you get the idea), then you will love it. If you are looking for true antiques, don't waste your time, we will not be stopping here anymore. The name should be changed to Brass Armadillo flea market junk. read more

This is by far the biggest antique Mall in the region! It is well kept and they do a lot of extra things that make it a nice special place to go visit. I go here every Christmas as well as for my birthday and sometimes even another visit each year. The prices are great the selection is huge and they added extra special touches for the customer service. One of my favorite fines of all time I actually found in the store and for a very reasonable price. I've never found anything like it anywhere else. I definitely recommend visiting this place if you're in the region it's well worth the trip. read more

A huge antique mall with a little bit of everything! There's always something new each time I go in. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours wandering the isles! As I've noticed with other antique stores located near an interstate, prices tend to be a bit on the high side, so don't expect the find the deal of a lifetime. I did come home with a piggy bank from the 50s, and old salt shaker and an antique colorful tin, all of which fit nicely with my decor. read more

Massive flea market / antique store in Grain Valley, MO. Huge building with aisle after aisle of booths full of anything and everything that you could ever imagine. Antique mall is a bit of a stretch in the name. Feels much more like a flea market with many booths hosting a random variety of, well simply, junk. Other booths have lovely antique items. Prices vary greatly. Few are competitive. Many are overpriced. Overall, it is a fun place to wander around if you are burning time. Maybe you'll find a treasure? One will certainly find some interesting treasures.... or... otherwise?!?! The place is clean, the staff is very friendly and helpful. I'm torn between 3 stars and 4 stars here. By nature, antique malls aren't terribly awesome. Do I enjoy them? Yes! Do most people below the age of 60 seek them out? Not really... But when you see a 42,000 square foot antique mall on the side of the highway, you have to stop in, right? Mike T and I really do like browsing the goods at antique shops and retro furniture stores. We actually have a "wall o' random" in our apartment, comprised of paintings/pictures/postcards from our many strange adventures. In addition, Mike collects AM radios and I like to look for vintage textiles. Brass Armadillo was A-OK in terms of stuff - there was definitely a variety - everything from old 7-Up bottles to Star Wars lunchboxes to croched hot pants (which looked gross and terribly uncomfortable, btw) to framed pictures of unicorns. Mike had to talk me out of several purchases: 1) what appeared to be a cupcake keeper; 2) a pony shaped lamp base and 3) the aforesaid unicorn print. All of which we do not need at this time. But we did have fun just looking and pointing out really random crap. I really don't think anything here is terribly valuable, so if you're a serious collector, this may/may not be the place for you. But it was relatively organized crap and there is a variety of it! If you find yourself on I-70 outside of Kansas City and you have some time to kill, definitely check out Brass Armadillo! read more

If you're looking for a place to browse for unique antiques near the KC metro area, look elsewhere! I wish someone had written an honest review of this place and saved me the drive out to Grain Valley! I have visited Brass Armadillo locations in Phoenix, Denver and Des Moines and have come to expect a certain caliber of antique dealers in their booths. The Grain Valley location is a sad exception to Brass Armadillo's ordinarily high standards. I would say that close to 75% of the booths are flea market junk and thrift store rejects. Very few booths in the entire mall contain genuine antiques (your 80s Garfield mugs from McDonalds and Beanie Babies from the 90s are also NOT antiques!). The person who runs this location isn't doing the Brass Armadillo's brand any favors by allowing people to stock their booths with garbage. :( read more

This is our kind of place. Friendly, helpful staff and tons of stuff to pour over. We spent a couple of hours and could have taken even longer. Pricing ranged widely between vendors, but that's often the case in a store with so many selling their wares. We'll definitely visit again if we pass through. read more

This was packed full of amazing stuff, and it took me a couple hours to go through all of it and some booths I just glanced at. The only drawback is it doesn't have carts to put your kids in. My son is in a car seat so you have to carry that around the whole time. So make sure you bring a stroller to strap them into. read more

This is the 3rd Brass Armadillo I have been to: They are all the same layout with a greeter and glass casing as you enter. Very large at 40,000+ sq ft of all the imaginable treasures possible. Many booths and great exercise as you go about a daily hunt! Pricing varies, dealer to dealer - open 364 days a year which is fantastic for someone like myself who travels around holidays. While these are always great stores, they should push dealers to do more sales, as some of the dealers sit on items and it can start to look cluttered in areas. Some are so packed with stuff its almost unbearable to walk through. I love these places - don't get me wrong, not anything against BA, its more of the dealers that are pretty tight with pricing and sales. read more

Ever since moving to the Midwest (and maybe even before), I have a new obsession. Antique malls. I love them. Yet after going to umpteen thousand of them, I can tell you that I usually leave feeling unsatisfied. Brass Armadillo is the exception to that. Every few months, I drive out there because it's a bag of awesome! Definitely my second favorite mall in the area after Rivermarket Antiques (which would be my favorite regardless of any bias of being a dealer there). The thing I love about Brass Armadillo is that there are so many booths and they don't cater to just one genre. Sure there's crap but that's almost everywhere. There's also awesome antiques and neat vintage items just waiting to be found. And the prices are fair for the most part. You need to give yourself quite a bit of time. Even though it's only one floor, it's a really, really big one floor. There are aisles and aisles of booths and when you get down with that, there are several long rows of glass showcases where you can find your smaller items. My only wish is that it weren't so darn far from me. But I can't really knock stars off for that without being a douche, could I now? read more

Here's a place that'll put you behind schedule on your road trip. It's so big the aisles have street names, and it's about the size of some nearby towns. That's assuming you can find your way there. They do a great job of marking the exit, then you're on your own. Twice I've passed it on the access road and couldn't figure out how to get from the access road to the shop. You want to find RD Mize Road, not 40 Highway! Merchandise ranges from late 19th century furniture, china, etc. to flea market/craft items. Prices vary, since there are probably 100 or more vendors. Most booths are unattended, but salespeople are usually roaming around or standing at the door to greet you. I was a little disappointed to find more flea market stuff than antiques this time around, but that's the nature of places like this-if you don't find something you like now, try back later! read more

This place is HUGE! It could definitely keep you occupied for a day. Easily. Even my HUSBAND found some treasures on our last excursion, and he HATES antique malls! They have everything from rare collectibles to guitars to furniture and TRUE antiques. Most booths are unattended, the staff is helpful and friendly, and the parking lot is spacious. It's far more of a "collectibles" mall than antiques. DVDs, cheap reproduction Harley signs, Star Wars and Marvel comix movie junk galore. Most of the booths, you gotta figure it's where folks who bulk-buy estate sale palettes and garage sale leftovers take a breather before heading to a landfill. You'll never see so much waste of glass and ceramics anywhere else. We've gone multiple times with a few weeks between each visit, and many of the booths are like living history displays... they haven't been touched or changed. I swear, I think men get ordered by their wives to clean out the garage and basement, rent a booth at Brass Armadillo, pay one months rent and then skip town, leaving Brass Armadillo to deal with the junk. All that said, one man's trash is another man's treasure. Who knows what you'll find... littered among the many tens of thousands of pieces of junk no one obviously wants (because it's been sitting here for MONTHS), there may be a few decent items, but they will go quickly. If you're hunting for carefully curated real antiques culled by knowledgeable pickers, it's probably not for you at all. Those stores are few and far between in this area. But if you want to walk off a big meal and ask your partner "who would buy this crap?" a few thousand times, look no further. Truth be told: I have made a few purchases here for photographic projects, so you CAN get lucky. The staff has always been friendly and helpful, but they really need to lean on the deadbeats to worry less about decorating their booth like a pink lace-trimmed brothel and get some stuff people want to buy. I've talked with several booth owners who maintain their stuff well, and they say it's an uphill battle to sell against all the clutter that draws in the wrong kind of shoppers and lookie-lous just wanting a nostalgia fix. read more
