If it's not a nice day and you have to be indoors, I can see the point of other commenters that it's a locals joint. Brasscat was unfriendly. New to the area, we thought we'd try a local bar and bring our three dogs. The bartender told us almost immediately that we would be kicked out of the bar because our dogs barked once. The brasscat doesn't really allow dogs. Id recommend any of the breweries within 1 mile. The breweries are much more welcoming to outsiders. The brasscat likes local only and if you're new to the area, they're unwelcoming. read more

Dive bar with a dash of Beer-Snobbery. I have a horrible addiction to places that have earned "Mug-Clubs", and this place is no exception. Always fun to try and conquer a list of 50, 60, 80, 125, +++ different beers. Not only is it good to try different things, it's also a bit of a beer education. You might even find a style of beer that you never knew existed, for example, a Kolsch, or a Black IPA, or even a Rauchbier. It's also fun to go back and re-try old favorites to try and figure out why in the world you might have liked that in the past. Comfortable location with a couple of horrible outdated small TV's and a fantastic jukebox (perfect as far as I am concerned). KENO and a Pool table as well. This place has the casual, low-key feel of a dive bar without actually being grungy or seedy. Friendly service (and other patrons), strong drinks ... it doesn't get much better. Occasionally has bands, always throws a great theme day--I've ducked in for New Year's, where they drop a giant wire ball lit up with christmas lights off the building, which was a complete blast--servers are friendly, great place to play a game of pool or a Wii game. Popular with some locals, it is to some an institution. Personally, I've never understood the appeal. Definitely not welcoming unless you are someone who has lived in town at least 10 years. Don't reveal yourself to be a newbie by actually eating the peanuts in the barrel by the darts. This rule is suspended if you are trashed, because you probably won't remember. Cash only, gendered bathrooms akin to a dive bar, screens playing sports, etc. That said, a wide selection of beers, fully stocked bar with more than just bottom shelf selections, and the place itself is quite spacious and at least tolerant of queer folk. The bad reviews on here, many of them quite old, are probably not far off the mark, but again, this place is beloved by some. And they definitely couldn't care less what anyone on the website says. Ultimately, not bad for a last stop on a Cottage St. bar crawl, since they are usually open past 1am. read more

So myself my boyfriend and some newly acquired friends ended up at brass cats last night. It's not my first time stopping in and it definitely won't be my last. I've been to my fair share of bars and they all have there own personalities and regular customers that sometime feel they have senority over the new comers. This was not the case , the place was super welcoming and had a friendly vibe going on from the moment we walked in. Someone in my group got a little too drunk, it happens, the situation could have gone south real quick but instead of shaming or yelling at them for getting a little ..ummm looking for the right words lol ​let's just say out of hand . The bartender and ?owner? Were super amazing and even gave them a brass cat shirt for free. I think my friend actually took the shirt without asking for it in the first place smh but again they were super cool about everything. Super great place and I'm told they have trivia night . This is a great place to come and have a beer with friends. They have a great tap list and plenty of space around the bar. It is a noisy spot, so make sure you are not wanting a quiet evening. There is also a pool table and darts area in case you are up for some games with friends. The service is okay - you do have to work to get attention in order to get a drink unless you are in the right "group." I am not a regular so I had to take some time to place my order. read more

Two stars because of the music alone, these guys bring in some decent acts and I certainly don't mind the cover charge to support the musicians. Another star for the bartenders who are cool and on it. The jukebox is legit as well, lot of GD classics in there. That being said that's about all this place has to offer. The beer is way overpriced for 01027. $4.50 for a flat Sam Summer Ale, no thanks. They also have this ridiculous "beer list" that the locals go through to earn a sweet 20oz mug with their name on it!! Whoopee!! Only after they've spent hundreds of dollars completing this list of random leftover exotic beers at $9 a bottle do they get the final challenge of day old cold coffee and Jack Daniels. (NO JOKE) It's too bad the people in the "Beer Club" are too stupid to realize that their stupid 20 oz mug will never be worth it. This place sucks, I'm dropping it back to two stars. read more

Had zero expectations coming in here as it was labeled as a dive bar. I can't belive the fun that I had at the Cat. They have a mug club that is better than anything I've paid for before. You drink 50 or something different drinks over the period of 6 months and pay $10 to get your own labeled mug. Free pizza when we were there on a Friday night. Cash only, but they have their own unique ATM in the place. Diverse crowd, great beer selection on tap and even better in bottles. A bit difficult to get to on my way home, but certainly close enough to visit on a regular basis. read more

Almost a "locals only" type bar. Over the years it's grown on me. Always a solid beer menu. A great place to just park your ass and down some brews with a few buddies or even by yourself. A conversation will always arise with your barmate. And you'll see some weird stuff occasionally like the lady last night who brought her dog in with her. read more

I have to agree with everything Fennessey, P said in the 7/31/2014 review. I was there with my friend and the bartender spent the whole time talking to her friends at the other side of the bar and acting like we were disturbing her asking for beer. That was in December and we haven't been back. I don't get the cash only thing either. read more

I think this is a decent beer bar and seems like a good neighborhood bar. I've had decent service from the bar staff, often complicated by the lack of an obvious spot to order a beer with a bar that is usually fairly crowded. Unfortunately, if you're looking to not be treated like an asshole by the drunkard who owns the establishment, I'd recommend going elsewhere. I've picked up on this in prior visits, but none more f'ed up than my last visit. My brother and I tried going on December 22nd to go play darts. Surprisingly it wasn't packed as we feared it might be before we walked a mile or so from his apartment to be responsible, but there was a $30 (?) a ticket fundraiser for a Toys for Tots type foundation that was starting about 45 minutes before we arrived. As we walked in a drunken Santa Claus asked us for tickets. When we said we didn't have any he said they were sold out, not that we would have shelled out the money anyway for the time we expected to be there. Obviously the situation sucked, but the owners lack of apology over people attempting to spend money at his establishment and that fact that at 9:15 he was absolutely toasted and belligerent is reason for me to think twice before giving him my business. I actually told him I was going to the bar to speak to a bartender, because I didn't believe he was anything more than the neighborhood bum--definitely seemed shady. After standing at the bar to wait to speak to someone who more obviously worked here, the drunken Santa Claus simpleton apparently owner walked over behind the bar to prevent me from speaking to anybody else, bragging about being the owner as the staff watched with what I suspect was their "Yep, this bozo actually is. Sorry my workplace sucks like this" expressions on their faces. Often when you receive chronic poor customer service you find an owner not treating their potential customers well. My understanding from speaking to people since is that Billy Bob Santa won't be the first owner to lose their bar in Easthampton for not being able to contain his liquor. The Brass Cat has decent enough beer, but the beer I had at the Cellar was better quality and equally if not less expensively priced. I'd prefer a dive bar myself, but I had to settle for the establishment who let me in, didn't treat me like an asshole and slur the rules of the day to me. read more
