BEWARE AND PROCEED WITH CAUTION. I have visited and shopped at Brass Unicorn a few times. I really wanted to like this store and I believe it has so much potential. Items are overpriced but I understand. As a business, you have to make your profit, especially since the majority of items sold are purchased and resold. I personally don't mind paying a little more due to the convenience of it being a shop in-town. I appreciate it. However, I must say the staff's energy carries so much negative weight and it's felt instantly upon going in. It's not welcoming. There's an awkwardness--tension. I feel watched the whole time. I usually mind my business and just go for what I need while browsing a bit. Like I said, I really wanted to love this store! So many cute and cool stuff. I understand each person is carrying their own shadows and is on their own journey of being, healing, and connecting, but there is one particular staff (older, white woman, with glasses) whom has a real heavy and negative energy. I noticed her from a far but as soon as she got close to my biofield, I felt a shift. I knew I had to leave. Maybe it was intentional on her part? Given I am from a marginalized group. I breathe and focused on my steps. I prayed and wished her lovingly thoughts. I even felt a heaviness and negativity linger on me for two days after. I had to do cleansing practices. Shame on you!!! I would give this establishment 0 stars if I could. I have been in here multiple times and they hand me hand sanitizer as if I'm not good enough to shop in their store. If im not wearing a mask they are very rude. This place is extremely overpriced which I don't have a problem with, however if you have high prices you better have good employees. They do not. This place is so ridiculous. The staff is not knowledgeable OR friendly for that matter. I had heard horror stories but was in a pinch and needed some herbs. First of all - the products are way overpriced. Second: I went in for a very specific herb: rosebuds. They have a big jar of herbs- labeled ROSEBUDS. Tell me why my whole 1oz bag came with ONE rosebud and the rest rose petals I called to see if I could come back and do an exchange or something - but low and behold...guess who doesn't do refunds on herbs?! I felt that the sales associates were in some strange manner so terribly busy, to answer questions for me. I got a sense that they just wanted to wisk me out the door as soon as I made a purchase. Years ago, I worked at a Native American shop at Manchester, Big Bears Native American Shop. The owner was Pawnee, my coworker Tesugue-Pueblo and myself Comanche / Mexican American. The owner of Brass Unicorn came in , we welcomed her in a very kind manner, she looked very paranoid and it seemed she had a very dark thing about herself. When she left, we told her, " Please, come back again", she looked at us as if frightened and left at a rapid pace. We looked at each other and our boss order the door closed and we smudged the whole store down. Even one of the customers who was of the local tribes, a Wukchumni Woman, sensed something wrong and insisted that she would do a "Clensing Song" while we smudged the place. We had to, Fresno is her MOTHER EARTH. A few months later, I went into the Brass Unicorn and the owner made me feel unwelcome in a very Hostile manner, beyond rude. When people posted that they get the ebegeebees around her and her store, they must be Empaths. I pray for the owner, I hope she finds her inner Peace, the World needs HEALING LOVE !!!! read more

They enforce masking, hand sanitizer use (they squirt a bit in your hands as you walk in) and capacity limits which makes me feel safer in their store. My girlfriend has been wanting to check out this establishment for quite some time, so today we decided to check it out. Big mistake, the older lady (owner I presume) followed her around as if she were going to shoplift (a $3.99 bracelet mind you). She carried the bracelet as it was the only one in that color combination and we proceeded to check out the rest of the store. Asked a question to the gentleman manning the stone case (very friendly btw) and continued on to check out the book selection. At this time my girlfriend was browsing the jewelry case where she was watched like a hawk. She was very uncomfortable and just wanted to leave. She placed the bracelet in the basket it came from and we continued to the door. Upon exiting she was asked if she left the bracelet in the store... as if we did not have $3.99 to purchase the thing embarrassing her in front of numerous customers who happened to be in the building at the time. Aloha, I have been purchasing items from the Brass Unicorn since the early 1990s. It is difficult to find such a diverse store like Kathryn's; even in San Francisco and LA. Before the days of Amazon, and the internet; The Brass Unicorn was the only place to shop. I still shop at the Brass Unicorn whenever I'm in Fresno. It used to be the only metaphysical store around, and many of us are so grateful she is still in business! I've had many trusted readings at the Brass Unicorn. Kathryn, the owner, can be intense. But she knows what she's talking about. If she refers a book to you, buy it. You will eventually go back, and buy it anyway. She is an amazing resource if you allow her to be. The incense is beautiful and fresh and made during the full Moon, as well as the herbs she sells. It's difficult today to find fresh herbs and so many of them. I travel frequently and look at other metaphysical stores. But, I still purchase my incense and herbs from the Brass Unicorn. Think about the kind of store you are entering. What kind of energy are you putting out there? Perhaps you feel someone's energy, which makes you uncomfortable or you don't understand it. Or maybe you are mirroring a person, when we feel someone is mean, or distrustful, perhaps we have to look within our own mirror for those answers. Whenever someone causes an issue for us, it could be something within yourself that you are deflecting. The Mirrors to our souls can be a lot of work. My family and I were followed around the ENTIRE duration we were shopping. And they didn't even try to hide it! There was a line wrapped around in the store by the candles, and one of the employees leans over asks if I need a basket when our basket was clearly in sight. When informing her we already have a basket, she continuously asked us through out our visit if we needed one. They finally got the message after a stern "no" but continued to straighten things up just within our arm reach. Do with this information as you will. This place is very conveniently located in tower. I've been coming here since they were at the different location behind dollar tree. Previously the ladies in there would offer to help but their vibe was really judgmental and kind of dependent on the day they were having. Now at this location I feel they have more space and it definitely shows in their attitudes and this makes to a better customer experience. Overall this place is great for crystals, books, incense, sage, knives, necklaces, Tibetan bowls, clothes, tapestry and the list goes on and on. I have been coming to this store since I was a kid, when they were still in the old shop by Strummers. I go at least once a month to stock up on my supplies and have never had a bad experience. The staff is helpful and kind, and are very knowledgeable on all things metaphysical. Further, if they don't have the information, they will always search it up in a book or online to help you out. Yes, the prices are a bit higher than if you purchased through an online retailer, but it is understandable since they are a local small business. Everything is well worth the price! I have seen many reviews talking about being followed around the store or watched, but I have been in that store dozens of times over my life and have never experienced anything like that. I haven't been yelping for a minute but the experience I had here recently compelled me to post. I really wanted to like this place as the other reviewers stated. But, every question I asked was returned with a weird look, a negative vibe, or very whatever service. Do you really want your new customers to never return ?! I get that you've been open for 30 years and apparently the place advocates energy healing .. How can there be such bad energy there? As a Reiki practitioner, I am appalled. Also, they were burning incense (walking around whole store with it) and when I got home the smell was stuck in my hair -- making me nauseous. Honestly, no incense has ever made me feel sick like this one -- I don't know what kind they were burning. I didn't have my ID in my wallet so I couldn't use my credit card per their policy. I happily left as I didn't care to support their business. The experience there is going to haunt me for a while. Go to the other crystal shop in Clovis .. I'm heading there today. read more

( overpriced and old ) I have bought a few things over the years but I won't be going back because the last time I went in I got three rings, one to keep and the other two to give away. I had the ring on for one day and the outer coat completely rubbed away. I took them all back and let the owner know that I didn't want them. I couldn't give them away as gifts because they were poor quality. She didn't want to let me return them but after talking to her for awhile she let me exchange them. I've been to the Brass Unicorn several times (I live right around the corner) and I absolutely love it. I've never had a single bad experience. I will agree with the people who say that some of the things are a bit overpriced, when I was staying in LA I could get a lot of the same or similar things for much cheaper but I could also choose from 10-20 similar types of stores. It's hard to keep a small business running when you're the only one like it and you're operating in a town when you're clientele is very limited. So I get it. I'm also willing to pay a little more if if means putting cash in the hands of a local owner. I also understand why the employees/owner would follow customers around. I live and work in the Tower District and shoplifting or theft in general is a very serious problem. If nothing else you get a personal shopping buddy that knows every bit of merchandise and can help you out. I usually work with the guy who works there (sorry I forgot his name) and he is just a sweetheart! He's very informative and great at suggesting similar things in my price range. We did much of our Christmas shopping there this year. My boyfriend also loves the place, he says the shop makes him feel at ease and he loves the way the whole store smells.
