I have been supporting Northstar, Brassica and Third & Hollywood since the first Northstar opened years ago. I frequent Brassica and always enjoy the experience but after tonight I will think twice about going back. They try to be an upscale fast casual restaurant that charges a pretty penny for their food. Tonight I asked for a few extra carrots on my salad and the worker told me that "we are actually limiting patrons to 6 pieces" and wouldn't give me a few more. First off I do not even think there were 6 pieces on my meal to begin with. Second off, that is a great way to lose customers over a few slices of carrot. It was extremely rude and I would think twice about your new "business model". Food costs may be rising for the restaurant industry but they are also rising for your customers. Since the stay home order, we have been getting carryout on Saturday nights. We both love Brassica, so this past weekend I ordered, paid and tipped on their app for dinner for my husband and I. I chose curbside pick up, so we pulled in and their guy asked for the name on the order. He brought it out within 5 minutes of our chosen time. They were busy with carryouts at 6:00. When my cousin said "do you like Mediterranean food?" and I told her I did, she jumped at the chance and took me to Brassica for my maiden voyage. She described it as "Chipotle-Esque" which was a great way to explain it to a first-timer. You walk in and are immediately hit with the aroma of curry, garlic, and freshly-baked pita. From there, you pick if you want a salad or a pita, and then choose your protein (chicken, brisket, falafel, etc) and then go down the line to select your fixins. Everything was delicious and fresh. A nice accompaniment to my chicken salad with lentils, sautéed eggplant and tahini dressing was a cool and refreshing mint lemonade. I will definitely return, given the chance, and plan to IMMEDIATELY write a letter to get a location in Cleveland ASAP. (Ok so that last part may be an exaggeration, but trust me, it was delicious.) I also liked the fresh beet juice and house made fries. Prices are reasonable and service was friendly and quick. And despite it being fast food with the pretty marble tables and brick decor I definitely felt welcomed to stay awhile. My partner spent 4 years in Columbus, so every time we came to Cbus for a visit, he would hype about brassica. I finally had a chance to visit this last weekend (#thanksscience) and was impressed! I ordered half brisket and half lamb bacon and I gotta say - the lamb bacon had the brisket beat! Don't get me wrong - the brisket was very good, but the lamb bacon was just sooooo unique. For a fast food chain, I would say I am pretty impressed! Sooo the reason why we never stopped by brassica the last couple times was because I'm very picky when it comes to veggies (and they have a lot of veggies that I don't like - carrots, cauliflower, kale, etc.) yeah, I live a terrible diet life, ok (just let me live). Even though my choices were limited, I was still able to stuff some veggies in there (eggplants, pickled cucumbers, pickled red cabbage), so it's a win-win for me. Flavor was bomb - a mix of creamy (from the special sauce) and vinegary (from the pickled veggies), oh-so-refreshing. I'm not a pita connoisseur so I cannot comment on the quality of the pita - but they are warmed fresh and has a nice texture, I dig them. Can't wait to come back again.
