The only reason why it's not a 5/5 for me is because of the location and seating. I don't mind bars (got a good draft beer) but it's shared space outdoor space. I seen this place posted on IG so I had to try. Let me just say I have yet to be disappointed. I have been about 5 times now since my initial visit. The staff here is so friendly. They operate out of a food truck, which means prep times may be longer than they would out of brick and mortar. If time is NOT on your side just wait until you have time to spare. You won't be disappointed believe me. I'm prob wha you call a wimp when it comes to spice levels. The highest I've gone is a 5, but I believe they go up to 10/11. Some things you have to ease into. After hearing them explain the levels of heat, 5 was a safe spot for me. The tenders are juicy and coated entirely by breading and spice level of choice. The juiciest tenders you ever put in your mouth. They do have dipping sauces available (ranch, spicy ranch, maple honey (their spin on honey mustard). For sides you can choose fries or pasta salad. Both are good. I just prefer a little fry action with my tenders. If you've been contemplating on going, DON'T. Just go! Oh yeah the chicken sandwich is also great too. I was just saying yesterday how I haven't had a chance to get to Brave Idiot even though all their food is right up my alley. The hours don't work for me during the week but finally got to come on the weekend. But on a Thursday evening in early spring I was driving and dedicated spots around here are not easy to come by. I finagled a place on the street (that stayed in my line of sight throughout my wait) and ran over to the truck. It's a one man operation (or, was at the time I visited) so it might take a minute to get your food. It's worth it. I ordered a hot chicken sandwich (level 6) and fries. Sounds basic. Tastes anything but. After a short while my buzzer rang, I had my food and I was on my way home. I opened the bag to find a VERY generous-sized slab o' hot chicken thigh coated in sauce, between a Charpier's bun, topped with pepper relish, pickle, and pimento cheese. Ridiculous. Flavorful (not hot for heat's sake) and balanced, the sandwich had the right amount of texture, taste, chew, and depth. And the chicken was juicy, not dry. This is a big deal. When Dylan Field was working at Southern Grist, he would often talk about his desire to open his own food truck and damn did he hit one out of the park. I am glad to see he is doing well. My first exposure to his food was when he hit Craft Brewed in Melrose (now a vape shop) with a burger pop up. Excellent burger. For the past few years, he has been a permanent popup at No Quarter - at first on the side, now in back. And recently, he was recognized as the best Hot Chicken in Nashville. I decided to put it to the test (not my first time eating his chicken, but first time since he hit #1). The food truck is a food truck (see picture). You order and get a pager to let you know when you grub is done. So not much ambiance, unless you consider trucks a form of ambiance. Service is also pretty much like any food truck, although Dylan is more than happy to help you get the right level of spice (and trust me, he can light you up). NOTE: At the time, you got 10% off for showing your kitties (pictures of cats, get your mind out of the gutter). I order #6 out of 10. I wish I had been a bit milder, although this baby still has tons of flavor. I can just imagine what 10 is. Moist chicken, wonderful flavor. 10 out of 10. I can see why he got the award. The potato salad is a different than most and has a bit of an upscale flavor. I would say more 7 or 8 out of 10 here, but it is potato salad. Personally, I don't think I would like pimento cheese on its own, but it worked on the sandwich. The chicken was spiced and fried perfectly, with a flawless bite every time. The tots were so addicting, I couldn't stop. I'm guessing it's the same seasoning as the chicken but not totally sure. The pesto salad was an amazing side and offered a bit of creamy respite from all the spice while not feeling heavy at all. All the workers in the truck were so friendly. Picked up 2 wonderful Hot Chicken Sandwiches and an order of kimchi fries and ate them at the neighboring Hubba Hubba tiki bar. It was threatening rain and the wonderful Ron, who guided us through our order, recommended Hubba Hubba instead of just going back to our room. We ordered tropical drinks and our pager soon went off. The sandwiches were piping hot and so crunchy and flavorful! They had enough sweet pepper relish and pimento cheese to add to the sandwiches but didn't overpower or make them soggy. I have been having hot chicken wrong all my life, this is the way. I had a hot chicken sandwich with some spicy tater tots and a burger with donuts for buns. Everything was excellent. Tots were super crispy, great crunch. Burger had this interesting sweet and savory thing going on that I personally enjoyed. The showstopper was the sandwich; super juicy chicken and seasoned generously. I wanted mine real hot and even when I tearing up cause of the heat I couldn't stop eating.
