A parking lot is available for customers. This location has both indoor and outdoor seating, mainly picnic table style. You'll order at the counter and bring your table number to your seat. Paper towels are at every table. Beverages are abundant: typical soda fountain, lemonade, slushies (spiked even!), local beer (including draft), cocktails, and more. My wife and I visited Hattie B's at the Nashville West location for a late lunch on aMonday earlier this month. I ordered the leg quarter with double fries at the mild heat level. As I've gotten older, I've become more sensitive to spicy food, but I found the "mild" to have almost no heat at all. More importantly, the spice seemed to be the only seasoning on the chicken. My wife ordered the three-wing combo, also with double fries, and her chicken was completely lacking in flavor at the mild spice level. We both agreed that if the chicken were seasoned as well as the fries, it would easily be among the best fried chicken in thecity. I've heard the criticisms people make about Hattie B's over the years, and after this visit, I have to admit I understand them. Having been fortunate enough to eat at the original Prince's Chicken and the legendary Knockout Wings, I know what truly great Nashvillehot chicken can taste like--and this wasn't it. It was ready in 10 minutes and pick up was super quick and easy. Definitely do this even if you're dining in as there's always a long line to order here. I ordered a Medium Hot Fried Chicken with Pimento Mac & Cheese ($12). Everything was packaged and labeled so nicely. I do wish they gave a bit more cole slaw for the sandwich, but still good. I did eat this sandwich in a side by side comparison with Pepperfire and I have to admit that I found Hattie B's to be a bit more dry, small, and less flavorful. I enjoyed the grits and greens also. The next part of the review is going take a quick turn. The presentation and deliverance of the Mac and Cheese weren't to my liking. The noodles were over cooked and wasn't really a tasteful cheese blend. Serving out large orders of chicken and sides daily, may become difficult to accurately measure up to that beloved dish. A good sauce my also become a franchise staple but, the Ville's Comeback sauce was also not to my liking. I'm picturing something memorable and savory. The sauce was boring and forgettable. When we came into town, I swear I smelled fried chicken and that was on the plane! Hattie B's Hot Chicken is pretty famous and even have an outpost at the airport, but I wanted to soak up the local flavor and get the lay of the land first. I wanted to get the full Hattie B's experience, but part of that is waiting on the long lines, which I would be happy to avoid. Forget the ones downtown, so I scoped out this one about 4 miles west because it has a large parking lot. When we rolled up, we still had to park in the back and wait on a short line, but it moved pretty fast. Getting a table was easy after ordering and I was just drooling at all the baskets of food going by. Meanwhile, take-out orders were flying out the door also. Hattie's chicken comes in 6 different heat levels, which is what they're known for. If you can't handle the heat, just get it the normal everyday Southern style, just crunchy. From there, it just progresses like Danté's Rings of Hell: Mild, Medium, Hot!, Damn HoT! & SHUT THE CLUCK UP!!! That kinda scared me, so we just got the Half Bird Medium. The 2 quarters of dark & white meat were super crunchy and hid the spiciness. The spice level starts out pretty low, then it progressively goes to simmer and then a light scorch as it builds. I'm sure the top levels just go to 5-alarm blaze in a matter of seconds. We also tried some of the sides: Bacon Cheddar Grits (a good substitute for mashed potatoes), Cole Slaw, Southern Greens (stewed collards). The chicken was the star though, crispy on the outside, moist & tender on the inside. Hattie really knows her chicken. Our friends that were not too hungry, went with the chicken sandwiches and they were substantial, with the large boneless fillet sticking out from all sides of the bun. Sandwich comes with one side item. I really wanted to try Fried Pickles and the Loaded Dirty Bird Fries, but they looked super heavy duty and I couldn't finish it by myself. I love the unlimited sweet tea that you can refill at will. At the end, I really wanted some of that banana pudding, but I was busting out already. The staff was amazing friendly, courteous and very efficient, the food came out very quickly! The atmosphere was great on the patio beautiful summer day. I had the brand new Chicken Salad and what a GREAT addition to the menu. It was fresh, crisp greens and plenty of toppings! We absolutely liked this more than Dave's Hot Chicken! My husband and I shared the 3 count medium spice Nashville Tenders, and for our sides we got the Potato Salad and the Mac & Cheese. Both were goods choices for sides, and the medium spice level was the perfect to where it didn't immediately just hit you with spice but it would build up.
