This weekend I went to H Mart to buy some oranges for Chinese New Year. We give them as gifts to family and friends when we visit their homes. Shocked, they were selling three for $3.99. The frugal Chinese shopper in me says, no way am I paying that price. Went to Trader Joe's instead and they were selling a bag of eight for $4.99. I even told the girl who was stacking the oranges how H Mart had the nerve to charge so much. Lol. As I continued to shop around the store, the girl came up to me with another bag of oranges and said take this bag instead it has nine (instead of 8) oranges. The fact that she took the time to look for me is what Trader Joe's is all about. That totally made my day. The workers go above & beyond. And don't get me started on the cashiers, I always enjoy saying hi to them and engaging in some friendly conversation. If you can't find a product, a worker will walk you to the aisle. Trader Joe's has me as a loyal customer for life. On another note, oranges are incredibly sweet and juicy right now. Go get yourself a bag.

The cheese bread is so soft and yummy. I also love their mousse cake, eclairs, and chocolate teacups. Most grocery stores don't have a bakery with high quality desserts like these. In the frozen section, they also carry my favorite ice cream, which no other retailer carries at the moment. I will say, some of the ready-to-eat options are not the best. The sushi is still grocery store sushi and by no means exceeds expectations. I often pick up a hot sub, which also isn't the best I've had, but it does the trick. When I do need to order things at one of these stations, the service here is really nice. Wegmans also has a pretty nice seating area if you're stopping in for a meal. Wegmans is truly a dream grocery store.

I haven't lived in NB through a growing season yet so I'm not sure whether their stock will localize as the seasons change, but I hope it will. In any case, the quality of the produce is generally excellent and the prices are fantastic. The focus is heavily Hispanic, so if you're looking for specialty ingredients (fresh and dried chiles and herbs, etc) this is a great place to go. You can usually find ripe avocados! There's a smallish grocery selection too (tinned goods, tortillas, hot sauces), a fish counter in the back (looks good and doesn't smell bad, both good signs, but I haven't tried it yet), small selection of meats and Mexican cheeses. Oh, and they sell Inca Cola, which is fantastically weird.

But after I moved, I was closer to this location and decided to try it again. Well, to my surprise it was a brand new store! The remodel left it looking clean and much better organized. Even the carts are brand new, no squeaky wheels or anything. Personally, I love shopping at Aldi, they have fantastic prices, and some real quality things that I look for specifically when I'm there, specifically their one-pot Asian and Indian sauces, artisinal salad dressings, flavored couscous, chocolates, and salsa. I also enjoy seeing what kind of special items they'll have in the home goods aisle for that week. Sometimes you can get some really cool items.
