I came here and it was like going to my small home-town dentist office where they knew my name, my parents, and remembered a lot of details about my life at every visit. It is located near the beachfront right off the interstate and near the Virginia Beach Convention Center. It has ample parking in the attached lot though it is a smaller parking lot with about 8 or so spaces - it never seems to be so over crowded that I can't find any parking... it has been close once or twice though... The inside is very very clean with new equipment and cute beach-y furniture and wall decor - surf boards and seashells and such. They sell Sonicare toothbrushes and products and do oral surgeries and tooth whitening here. I have never needed more than a very minor filling that did not require numbing and the doctor (Dr. Heffelfinger mentioned below) has an excellent bedside manner who decided to not numb me and we went very slowly to see if I even needed it for such a superficial filling. It turned out I didn't so he spared me the stress and pain of that for which I greatly appreciated it. Means I didn't drool on myself all night needlessly. Plus he personally called the next day to check on me - something I believe they do with all patients who had a procedure done and which is a real personal touch that you don't find most places anymore. I've had a few hygienists since coming here over the last two years but my favorite was only there temporarily and left - my current - Kimberly - is very nice and works with me because I am a bleeder with sensitive gums and A LOT of plaque build-up every time no matter how much I floss or how expensive my toothbrush is.... she seems to go out of her way not to hurt me and to try to minimize the dreadful experience. Which is nice. She also asks about my life and makes an effort to remember the details. My dentist - Dr. Heffelfinger is a very nice younger doctor with a friendly and funny personality - who happens to have gone to JMU - my alma mater - which makes us instant best friends and means he is automatically a great American to me.... plus he's pretty damn cute so it could be much worse. I still don't really enjoy coming to the dentist - but it's much better than ANY previous experiences I've had and especially in the Virginia Beach area. if you are looking for the small-town dentist feel where they remember your name and some family details every time you go in and don't farm you in and out like cattle, come here. You won't regret it.

They said they changed computer programs and I was no longer on the schedule. They rescheduled me for 12,12,25. Then they told me their person quit so I couldn't get in until next summer. I said I would like a refund and she said she would take care of it right now. She still has not refunded my $50.00. I do not understand why they didn't just hire another person.

Had bad experiences. But the staff here was friendly, calming and caring. They weren't able to figure x my tooth then but scheduled me for another appointment to have it taken care of and started me on antibiotics to clear up the infection in the gum. Couldn't be happier with everything. And it didn't hurt that my dentist had stunning brown eyes to make me feel a little more calm. Definitely recommend them.

I also like that the office is very clean and tidy. The dental hygienists that I've experienced have always been very friendly and ask all of the essential questions before starting the process. For a simple cleaning, they do a very thorough job at checking each tooth for issues before starting the cleaning process and the whole process never takes longer than 30 minutes for me. You can tell that Dr. Boylan is very passionate about his work and the dental health of his patients and it shows. The front desk staff was welcoming right away and even thanked me for completing my forms ahead of time, which was a nice touch. The dental assistant who took my X-rays (I'm assuming that's what it's called) came out to get me and was super kind and easy to talk to. She explained everything as we went and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. After the imaging, Dr. Hernandez came in and went over everything they found. I honestly don't remember ever having a dentist be that thorough. He took his time, explained things clearly, and made sure I understood what was going on and had all my questions answered. This was just the first visit--they'll do the cleaning and anything else at a follow-up--but overall, everyone there was wonderful. It's hard for me to even say this, but I'm actually looking forward to going back. I told my youngest son and his wife (who are local and looking for a dentist), and they are eager to be seen by Dr. Hernandez and his staff!
