This was our first dining experience in Queenstown. My husband really wanted to try the beer and the steak in New Zealand and this met both his needs...HA! Needless to say, he had the steak, I had the fish and our son had the Chicken Parm. My husband thought the steak was tasty, yet slightly tough. The fish was good (great presentation), but overall...our son's Chicken Parm was the best. The beer was yummy too! The food is good. But for the price you pay, you expect for it to be excellent and the portions are small. As for the staff, they are very nice. I don't like to ask for water constantly due to our server disappearing. You do get this bottle of cold water on the table, but once it's empty and you need another or for it to be refilled...good luck! I also do not like it when the staff does a disappearing act when I'm ready to go and can't get the check. Then once you get the check, you can't find them to take your credit card so you can get out of there. Being nice it great!...But "it's" more than that. Plus, there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time, they were not busy. If you go here...I'd limit it to drinks and small bites. The huge plus is the location. It's near downtown and the village green which creates a nice atmosphere. It is also within walking distance to several hotels. Outdoor seating is available as well.

Dining as a large group, they were quick to seat is and service was good. Only reason for the 3 star rating is that the food was only ok. Ordered the $44 steak and ribs, medium, with pepper corn sauce. The steak was very well done and the sauce very average. However the ribs were amazing and saved the meal. For $44 for a main I'd expect steak to be cooked pretty close to request.

My partner had the lamb burger, we shared the poutine, and I had the venison pot pie. Portion sizes are huge so I had to take away some of my pot pie and some leftover poutine in a box. Taste wise, my partner enjoyed his burger, we both loved the poutine, and the venison pot pie was good but a little too sweet for my liking. The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. The alcoholic lemonade was also quite nice and better than any alcoholic lemonades I've had in the states.

The adjoining balcony was great for watching life pass by down below with our 6x200mL taster flight for 45 NZD. For some reason, this beer bar and the last made a big deal about having Sculpin on tap. And little did they know, these San Diegan's cared not! Plenty of fresh hops selections were eyed instead, brews from Garage Project and Behemoth the MUCH better selections. The beer bar is huge with plenty of places to post up. Despite it's location in touristy QTN, Smith's keeps it laidback with its rougher environs that are not overdone or cringey like some of the places in QTN. Didn't have a food, but it looked to be of good value in expensive QTN, that is, if you aren't tired of pub food.
