I have a train wreck in my mouth from putting the dentist off for years because I had more than my share of bad luck with dental experiences but I decided to give Brea Dental a try. I am really glad I did. I have had a cleaning and a root canal done here and both experiences were good. Nobody likes a root canal but it went well and I never felt uncomfortable at the time and there was no pain afterwards. The staff here is great and everyone makes you feel welcome and comfortable. The dental assistants are all so great as well! My dentist, John Whitworth DDS is very personable and experienced. My EXPERIENCE: I made my first appointment with Brea Dental Group due to pain in my lower left jaw. Originally, I had thought I had a cavity. Come to find out, my TMJ disorder was causing such discomfort it was affecting my jaw and gums. I was fitted for a mouth guard to wear at night to help prevent teeth grinding and pain. I was so happy to finally have my pain resolved! On my second visit, I had a resin replaced due to it being cracked. My dentist is awesome! I had a PAIN FREE experience. Beautiful service and lovely people. I've been with this group for over 2 yrs and each visit is amazing as well as the tips and tricks to take good care of your teeth. And after every visit, they always make you feel excited for the next time. They crack good jokes and nice subtle side conversations to not make you feel awkward. I never not like showing up. On the side of operations, they don't take long to call you in, they are very cautious and ask about any pain the patient might feel. Be prepared for up-sells. Very nice people there and otherwise professional but pushy with extra services. First off scheduled an appointment for a cleaning. When I'm there I find out that was just an initial consultation, have to come back for a cleaning. Fortunately they squeezed me in. As we were doing the cleaning they wanted a debridement. After that they wanted a deep cleaning on all 4 quadrants due to pocket size which would be 2 more appointments. My issue wasn't even just that I think the recommendations were excessive but that even then they are pushing their "antimicrobial rinse" for around $100 that insurance doesn't cover and they made it out not to be optional. This is on top of suggestions of other preventative screenings not covered by insurance. Now that I've switched to another dentist its another $25 if I want them to email my x-rays to my new Dr. read more

I moved from out of state and went to this office in march, 2021. Because of Covid, I missed one regular cleaning. When I had cleaning about 12 month prior, hygienist told me my teeth were really clean. I use electric toothbrush, in-between brush and floss. However, when I went to this Brea dentist office, Dr told me I needed debridement cleaning. I didn't have a choice so I agreed and paid $109 because my insurance didn't cover that kind of cleaNing. Dr himself did the cleaning and spent about 5 minutes. He also told me I needed procedure costing me about $5,000 and he wanted to have tooth extracted on that day. I told him I would think about it and I left. I found another dentist and went for cleaning 8 months later and I was told that my teeth were in decent shape. I didn't write review right away because I wanted other dentist's opinion. I am glad that I didn't let the dentist to extract my tooth 8 months ago. Worst dentist experience ever. read more

I waited a bit too long to get some work done and when I finally needed it they scheduled me in right away. The office is very clean and the equipment is all top of the line. I went in 3 times to finish up all the work I needed done. I had no pain or discomfort during or after any of my appointment and I am very happy with my results. Each time I was there my appointments were always quicker than I expected. The people at the front desk were very nice and got me in back quickly. There is good reason this dental office has so many 1-star reviews. I thought it was funny that they respond to the negative reviews by saying that the customer review is for the wrong business - what a joke! Patient beware!!! Brea Dental Group tries to upsell you on everything. On top of that, they act like your insurance does not cover the services they are recommending so you have to pay all in cash or use their credit services. I checked with my insurance, and in fact the services were covered and less expensive than they tried to charge. The lady at the front desk must work on commission because she will keep lying and trying to overcharge for services even when you point out the mischarge. Before you get your cleaning, they come to you with a sheet with all the recommended services that amount to thousands of $$$$$. It is a shame that you have to be so cautious when just trying to get your teeth cleaned :( I am reporting them to the insurance carrier and BBB for shady business practices. I have this really bad habit of chewing all candy on the right side of my mouth SO needless to say I have to have some minor work done this year. I used to live in Brea and would always see this office on imperial, so when choosing my dental coverage I picked the Brea Dental Group. I let them work on the upper right side and everything I guess was fine no complaints about the work or even the dentist but it was DAMN expensive. I feel like they really, really jipped me and then they tried to up sell me with invisline making me feel as if I had snaggle teeth and the world would not like me if I didn't get invisiline. Moving past that, I didn't take it personal and I made another appointment for the bottom work to be done. I just didn't want to bother with locating another dentist and do that whole initial appointment again. Well, a couple weeks go by and I have to reschedule my exam due to a personal reason, so I called them with 24 hours notice to reschedule and the lady on the phone reprimanded me as if she was my mother and lectured me about canceling. After that I didn't feel bad at ALL and I am now on my quest for a more cost effective dental group with receptionists that are sweet just like my candy craving. They also only did X-Rays on the first visit and no cleaning, which is weird to me. I wanted to have my routine 6 month cleaning. I scheduled it with the Brea Dental Group. They were local and took my insurance. After being there 1 hour and 25 mins. THEY ONLY DID X-RAYS! They slapped me with a list of things that were wrong with my teeth, and a $1700 bill if I decided to go forward (and that was with my great insurance). I found this hard to believe since I had been going to the dentist regularly my entire life (with by the way no "problems"). They assumed I hadn't been to the dentist in years. My teeth are very nice and I don't have any problems whatsoever that I feel. All I wanted was a cleaning and "oops they forgot to mention they only do x-rays on the first visit" SO...needless to say, I walked out of there without a thing not even a cleaning.. Brea Dental Group is the type of dental office that only wants to take your money. All they will tell you is that you need an upgraded cleaning, upgraded exam, etc. Upgraded = more money! When I chose the level of upgraded cleaning my insurance would cover, they assured me that there was no extra cost. One month later I get a bill in the mail for $15. They sent this bill to collections after I was 30 days late with it. No joke. I had been meaning to call and dispute the bill with them, but heck, my life is busy and a $15 bill didn't seem like such a big deal. I know a lot of other reviewers here have mentioned that they had much larger fees to pay, but the principle is the same that all Brea Dental cares about is your money. When I finally called to resolve this collections notice, the receptionist tells me that she doesn't have time for me to haggle on the phone with her because she has a client in front of her. Rude! Moreover, I had to book one appointment for my x-rays and exam, then come back later for my cleaning. This is the type of dental office that doesn't care about its client's time, and only cares about making money. After reading some of these reviews, I see that others also share similar experiences at Brea Dental Group. Especially with excessive billing for extra procedures and services! I used to be a patient of theirs for a few years, and remember each time I went for a routine exam/cleaning, I always came out with hundreds to thousands of dollars worth of dental work. In fact, I remember I had to open a CareCredit credit card just to finance all the dental work yearly. I finally switched dentists a few years ago after an incident where Brea Dental wanted $1600 dollars for "deep root cleaning" of my teeth ($800 for upper, and $800 for lower set). I had Kaiser insurance (which i'm only supposed to pay 20% for all procedures). When I went for the visit, I gave them my dental card, and the lady attempted to call to verify coverage, and later told me my out-of-pocket expenses were $1600. A week later, after having paid the first $800 installment, I felt something was not right about my coverage, so I called Delta Dental insurance myself, and they said they never received any calls or inquiries from Brea Dental Group! The only reason why I gave this place one star is because you have to pick at least one. Long story short: My husband went here and when he came out the front desk lady sat him down and with a straight face had the audacity to tell him that it would be $7,000 to fix his mouth. WHAT THE _ _ _ _!!! Now my husband hardly has some $7,000 yuck mouth. He has a cute smile and no, there's no gaps or rotten teeth. Impossible, you must be thinking. Why would they say $7,000 if his mouth isn't jacked up you're probably saying. Well, because they are crazy in their f****** heads! (Excuse my language kiddies but these people are wacked.) I didn't know whether to laugh or poke this lady in the eye so she could see the right amount on the treatment plan paper. With no need for the eye poking the sheet actually did say $7,000. This included the tooth that my husband initially went to have pulled and the bone that they wanted to put in his mouth after they pulled the tooth out for a reason that I didn't completely understand . Yes, I said a bone in place of the pulled tooth. Where they were getting this bone from I have no idea nor did I care since there was no way in hell that we would ever return. Okay, since I've now made my short story long I will tell you that we rushed to our car and sped out of that parking lot never looking back. Next dentist pulled the tooth, filled the couple of cavities that he had and made no mention of any work that totaled over the expected couple hundred dollars that our insurance did not cover. If you are smart you will just keep on driving past this place. The are con artist and thieves. Don't be stupid enough to let them talk you into unnecessary procedures and bone insertions. read more

My family just started coming here about a month ago. The staff is super nice. The dentist who saw my kids was awesome. Especially to my daughter who was so scared she began crying. And this was just for a cleaning. He was very open about what he was doing and reassured it would be ok. And of course it was. My husband also feels the same way. He loves the dentist. But what made me go out of my way to write this review is my daughters 2nd visit. The hygienist, Priscilla, was absolutely amazing! She was aware of my daughter being scared to get a deeper cleaning. Priscilla made her feel so comfortable. Showed her what was going to be used. Talked her through everything. She had my daughter laughing instead of crying. To my dismay, I realized I called the wrong number and had scheduled an appointment here at Brea Dental Group on accident. I went in for some discomfort in my mouth. I was informed my wisdom teeth needed to be removed. They gave me the option of coming in later that week and seeing a surgeon or he offered to take them out right then, AND charge me less.
