Ever so often I find myself in Flemington for work or for the Porsche dealer (please respect my privacy) and I always see this spot. But it's either closed or parking is impossible or the street is overrun with police. Or worse yet - all 3. Last week however, it was open, bumping with people, and there were available spaces. Federales were still patrolling but I was locked in on carbohydrate comfort and thus unbothered. I dipped in for a couple coffees and sweets. It was about 1030 and we were headed to lunch afterwards so I kept it simple. I really wanted the malted latte but called an audible at the last second for a Paloma refresher. I also grabbed a rye (!) chocolate chunk cookie and an apple cake muffin. If we weren't going to lunch I would have ordered the avocado toast. It sounded delicious and while I was there a customer got one and it looked incredible! I really liked the food here - it was understated. I feel like a lot of bakeries hit you with cloying sweetness because bakery but anyone can dump a bunch of sugar in something - AND I ADORE SUGAR. But the restraint shone here really allowed the flavors to shine through and the food didn't sit like bricks in our tums. Very lively space with ample seating inside and out - I'd really like to come back on a day I'm playing hooky from work. Which given the state of my mental health could be as early as tomorrow. This was a bakery that served pastries, breads, sandwiches, etc. They used the highest quality ingredients, which made the prices on the higher end. There was a line outside the door, but it moved quickly as they had a nice process put in place. The staff was friendly and accommodating as we were ordering. I will describe what I had below. Personal Rosemary Focaccia ($16) - This was very large. I had this with homemade pasta, and it did the job. It was very light and cooked appropriately. The rosemary was definitely tasted on the outer edges. Pistachio Chocolate Almond Croissant ($7.75) - This was solid. It was very flaky and buttery with plenty of the chocolate filling. The chocolate was smooth and not overly heavy. I was hoping for a little better balance with the pistachio but did not taste much even though it was clearly there. B&C Turkey Club ($19) - This sandwich had turkey, thick-cut bacon, mozzarella, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on their country bread. This was made to order. The sandwich was well constructed with great layers. There was just enough mayo where the sandwich was not overly wet or dry. Everything went together nicely, but the country bread was the key. Dropped by this spot right by the Hunterdon County municipal complex expecting a premium experience, but walked away feeling underwhelmed. For a place with "artisan" in the name, the coffee simply didn't deliver. We paid about $12.50 for two 12 oz. drinks, which is definitely on the pricier side. My malted salted latte tasted pretty bland, lacking the distinct flavor punch I expected. My wife ordered an iced Americano, and she found it wasn't nearly strong enough for her liking. Given the branding and the premium cost, we were expecting a much bolder, higher-quality flavor. The issue likely stems from the service. There was a bit of chaos behind the counter while we waited. Two different employees handled our order and seemed to be actively trying to figure out how to make the drinks. It was pretty clear there was some confusion back there, and something must have been missed in the process. The bakery items and sandwiches looked good, but the drink execution and value just weren't there on this visit. Three stars for now. read more

Popular place on a Sunday morning they open at 9 am and the line was forming out the door on the sidewalk. My husband and I split a morning bun and almond croissant. Both were crisp and light. Coffee is great. This is our go to place when we are in the area. Love it! read more

My absolute favorite bakery in NJ,"beating" even the superstar Liv Breads! No matter if you're after sweet or savory pastries,everything is superb - and I'm a huge fan of sourdough,so making it not hard and overly chewy speaks volumes! My standout favorites are definitely the cinammon roll (best glazing ever) - HUGE - and mixed berry danish. Coffee here is excellent too! Staff is always super lovely,seems like a family business. I don't like writing a less than positive review but I have to call it like I see it. In general this place is fantastic however they need up their standards of what is acceptable to serve. My filled croissant was burnt and for someplace that I assumed had high standards, I don't think they should've served it. Had I been eating in the restaurant I would have taken it back. I really wanted like it. The insta videos looked great. But everything was below average. The horchata didn't really taste like horchata. The coffee was bland. Nothing made with laminated dough had the crunch it was supposed to have. Many things were sold out, and perhaps one of them would have been great. But the four items we ordered were no better than what was sold at your local bagel place, while being twice the price. Maybe all this is a side effect of their surge in popularity, but if so, they need to fix it. Their line management was terrible, their quantities were out of whack, and the quality of the food and drink didn't make up for these issues. This bakery is located in downtown Flemington and there's street parking along Main Street. It's open in the mornings and closes early afternoon Thursday through Sunday. I recommend going early as items do sell out quick and the line to order can get long. The menu rotates weekly so I love coming back to try different pastries. It is very pricey but portion sizes are huge. I usually get takeout but the inside is decorated very nicely with natural colors. read more

This place is just spectacular. I'm only sad that it took me until now to discover it. The ambience/vibe, the amazing baked goods, the friendly service... I'm not sure where to start. It's all worth five stars for sure. The lines are long since the demand is so high, but they keep it moving and clearly there's a reason it's so popular! I could hardly choose what to have. We come here pretty often. Loved this breakfast/brunch cafe until recently. I understand the place gets busy so we ordered drinks online since it says to order online if we want to skip the line or get it sooner so we ordered drinks online at 11:06AM. We also ordered the food at the counter. We received our food about 5 minutes after we ordered, which was great. However, the drinks were another story We saw everyone who came before and after us leave and yet we were still waiting for our drinks. I went to ask when our order will be considered since online said it hasn't even been in progress (this was when it was 11:35 AM). The barista wasn't friendly and said she'll get it as soon as she can, and then mentioned it says we still have 10-15 minutes more to go...all because we ordered online. It's pointless to order ahead online if it gets ignored compared to those orders that were ordered in the store regardless of the time. The worst part, we couldn't even cancel the order online. This could have been a better experience if ordering online is not recommended and cancellation was an option. We got our drinks at 11:50AM. read more

I was visiting my cousin as I'm from NC and she took me to this amazing cafe. I thought it was ridiculous to drive 40 minutes for brunch but omg was the drive worth it!!!!! The croissants are so fresh. The coffee is delicious and the staff is very friendly. A bit of line to order but it moved fast. Such a welcomed addition to Main Street in Flemington! We already have fantastic antique shops, restaurants, boutiques, and florists. And yes, I know we have great coffee shops too, but you really can't have too many. With a beautiful, spacious and cozy front porch, this is ideal for warm weather days. They also have lots and lots of seating inside. However, no wifi password so while this is a great place to relax or meet for coffee with friends, skip the laptop work. I've heard that on weekends, the line wraps around the sidewalk, but on the friday morning that I stopped in, it was quick and fast. The baristas were super friendly and made suggestions on the manyyyy pastries. Okay, on to the order! I got my usual oat milk latte (iced because it was GORGEOUS out), a carrot coffee cake muffin and a loaf of the focaccia bread. All was delicious. Gorgeous interior. The bakery is nestled in an absolutely adorable town that brought me back a century. I was really excited to give this place a try. I saw them on Instagram. Everything in the pastry case looked phenomenal. The stand out was the rose pistachio loaf. I think the flour used was semolina or perhaps Cornmeal. It was dense, grainy, delicious. I wasn't a fan of the morning glory muffin, which is a croissant twisted into a muffin shape. It seemed over baked and dry. I think if it was smaller, it could've been baked for less time, and it would've retained that buttery flavor that I feel is essential in puff pastry. The focaccia was lacking in the essential olive oil flavor and very dry. The hibiscus tea was good. The service was efficient. I felt very comfortable lingering inside. This is a solid a go-to for breakfast pastries and coffee. Heard about it from my niece and looked up their IG account. Of course the pics on their website look delicious but they definitely back it up in taste and texture. We bother ordered savory pastries, which when you look at it...:looks huge. Wowow such yummy pastries! So good we had to come back the next day on our way home. We originally wanted a loaf, but they ran out on both days (12:30 on a Friday and 11:30 Saturday) so recommend going early for full selection. We got several croissants- all very good. Flaky with lots of layers and doesn't taste overly buttery. These might be my favorite croissants stateside. We also tried some of their sandwiches (bacon and egg & the turkey mozzarella). The egg sandwich tasted very special bc the egg was fluffy and soft. They are large portions and definitely shareable. I also got a golden milk latte to go. Wish there was a stronger flavor. Been seeing the mouth watering vids and pics on socials about Bread & Culture and needed to try them out myself. My husband and I went one Saturday morning for a breakfast date and ventured around Flemington afterwards. It was about an hour away but it was a decent colorful ride (it was during the leaves changing.) We knew to get there pretty early as the lines tend to wrap around or products tend to sell out. We got there and, as expected, we were in line. The place was very nice, modern, and cozy vibes as you walk in. There are tables and chairs you can sit in if you want to enjoy your food, however, when there is a line expect the people to hover over your area. The display case and the smell of all the baked bread and pastries is just inviting that you'd definitely want to stay. We ordered a few things to eat and take home. 2 sandwiches, 2 croissants, sourdough bread, and a Valrhona coffee. When you see Valrhona chocolate being used you can definitely expect a rich chocolate decadent treat. The sizes of everything were huge, definitely shareable. Delicious and definitely a treat to have. If you're local to the bakery, you have a gem over there! We came to this lovely establishment by accident because we were in the middle of our travels coming home from Pennsylvania. We found that their coffee is absolutely delicious and their food is to die for my husband had the Jammon Burre sandwich, and I had the ricotta and blueberry toast and both of these things were executed beautifully and were made with delicious bread. We were here around when they were closing up shop and the lovely guy gave us a free loaf of jalapeño cheddar bread, which looks amazing which we will try later. After only one visit, Bread & Culture is a new staple for me. The atmosphere is both spacious and cozy, and I can only imagine how perfect it will be to enjoy a coffee on the oversized deck in the fall. The barista recommended a NOLA latte, which was fantastic. First time at Bread and Culture to check out their amazing selection of pastries! Food: We tried a guava and cheese pastry which was delicious. It was the perfect amount of flaky, sweet and savory. It was also a great size for the price. They have a really nice selection of pastries and breads (heavy on the croissants) and we're looking forward to trying something else! Service: the guy at the counter was amazing. It was one of the best customer service interactions I've had in a long time. He was really sweet and friendly, and efficient. The only thing and reason for not being 5 stars is that we waited about 15 min for 1 croissant. We were here Friday morning and the bakery was busy (totally understandable). It was just a little frustrating to be put in a queue with other people that had coffee orders, 5-6 pastries to be packaged up, etc. and we got a single croissant. There also wasn't a lot of room to stand and wait so it was a bit uncomfortable. Ambiance: the inside is beautiful. It's bright, warm and inviting. I would love to eat in next time. The owners started out doing farmers markets, which eventually garnered a lot of attention and very long lines, and opened this storefront last year. It is packed every weekend from opening until about 11 a.m. And there's good reason for it. Their breads (so many choices), pastries and breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Very good ordering system, prices are not too outrageous, and the staff is pleasant and work quickly to fill the orders.
