After a year and half of attendance, I finally am ready to speak up about this church. After seeing the funds of the church going to things like recording music and not going to local community in the middle of Hollywood- enough is enough. There is next to no diversity on the staff. Only really one person of color. Even in recent times where there has been opportunity to add diversity to staff, this has not been a priority. The pastor seems more interested in the sound of his own voice than to take accountability for how little courage there is in not standing up and speaking up about all the social injustice that's not only going on in the nation but literally outside the doors of the church. He skates around the topics, sarcastically jokes and will never outright call out injustice. For a church in the middle of Hollywood- this is predominately white, very surprisingly right wing despite the facade, and VERY cliquey. Really disappointed in the amount of time and trust invested in this church, but am finally speaking up and going to support a different church body that actually is ACTIVE in the community, diverse and shows it in actions even with who the pastor and his wife choose to surround themselves with- it's just really such a bad witness for such a diverse city. read more

Amazing experience! One of my favorite churches in LA. The music sends me. I feel something deep. The people are very authentic. The pastors are real and gifted. They have a wonderful kids ministry. They always have prayer afterwards and that is where the magic happens. It's unexplainable, powerful, and healing. Love this place. read more

I don't really know what to say in a review of a church. How does one review a group of people? I don't know. But I'll say, I really like this place. I really like the people. I like the theology and the worship and the leaders and even the attempt at church coffee. If I should be more forthcoming and use the word "love" on a public forum, well then, let's call it that. LA's an interesting place. Everyone seems to be here looking for something. But everyone, everywhere, is looking for something. So, whatever you are looking for, I think you could find it here, if you want. No matter what stage you are in, faith wise, there's a place for you here amongst people trying their best to love God and love one another, and to do this thing together.  It's all I could really ask for. read more

Several weeks ago I stumbled upon Bread - the church that turned out to be "above and beyond" my wildest expectations. After living in LA for many years and attending multiple churches, I could say that unlike many congregations that focus on attendance numbers, celebrity appearances, or fashion trends, Bread is focused on Christ and Christ alone. Here are some other things you'll find here: - You will meet the most genuine, approachable and loving leaders who will point you to Christ, and not themselves; they treat people with love (for real); - Even though the church values community, they won't make you codependent on their community, rather on Christ; - You will not find reserved seats in the house. Do I need to say more? - You will not be pushed into serving from day one. People serve out of abundance of their hearts and not obligation. - You will not be pushed. PERIOD. - Worship doesn't look like a rock-band show. The presence of the Holy Spirit is so thick that I'm thinking about bringing a pillow next time. - As mentioned earlier, they are not focused on the numbers of their congregation, instead they are focused on the people. Bread is the only church in LA where I didn't feel controlled or pressured by religion!!! People are wonderful, genuine and welcoming. You should definitely check it out for yourself! read more

I've been to many churches and this is one I feel completely at home with in the spirit. I miss it when I'm not there and I never feel forced to volunteer or give. I highly recommend this church to anyone whose looking to increase their faith. read more

5 Reasons why I like Bread Church: 1. The Message. Pastors speak from the Bible and deliver concise messages that are easy to understand and apply to daily life. 2. Worship. No frills. Good music that welcomes the Holy Spirit. Also, it sounds great. Whoever works that sound board thing in the back, wow... Amazing. 3. Community. I have never felt more of a sense of belonging at a Church in my life. I have gone to big churches and small churches but never felt at home. I feel at home at Bread. Community extends beyond Sundays at Bread. 4. Parking. They have lots of it, and it's free and effortless. 5. Leadership. Love this church! My wife and I moved up to LA and got connected right away to this amazing community of people that have genuine love and care for each other. The pastoral staff staff do an amazing job leading and helping people thrive in their gifting and calling to live out the Gospel. Great way to meet folks is to go to Alpha, a 6 week course to talk about faith and connect with new and old people from the church. Bread has been such a life-giving place for me. I have tried all kinds of churches and have chosen to make the commute from the West Valley because this is a place where the Holy Spirit is alive and at work. I choose to go where people can be un-done, where we can gather for a drink and really get to know each other rather than just say hi on Sundays, and where I can grow in my ability to hear God in my daily experience. Bread is a progressive non-denominational Christian church that welcomes all. I found their messages to be nuanced and well crafted, their worship to be moving but without being too showy or over the top and their service length was not too long or arduous. It's the kind if church that is most refreshing to those who are tired of the more dissapointing aspects that come with a lot of churches and you can tell they activly avoid the traps that so many Christian churches fall into. Couple of things. Weird to write a review about a church, but this church is def an exception. Pastors/Leadership: The pastor and leadership is VERY VERY real. They're not acting/trying to be perfect. They're extremely inviting and open. It creates a homey safe vibe. Some of them are British - a nice sense of dry humor esp at a church. Praise team - it's simple, which I find as a major plus. Kids Church - this is actually the main reason we starting coming to this church. We wanted a place where we could raise our little human in - not too overwhelming. We wanted a church that we could create relationships in and for our kids to grow up in. We love this place - it's been a year, and appreciate it place heaps. read more

This place is home. No judgment, no pressure, no religion. The wife/husband leadership is completely equal and legit. Not just skin-deep. Hannah and Ed compliment each other perfectly and handle the tough issues (both current and timeless) with intelligence, a deft touch, and a healthy helping of humor and reality. Bread is welcoming, accepting, not showey, flashy, or spooky in that God Fearin', Bible Thumpin', "Other" Hatin' way many of us imagine the whole concept of "church" to be. Bread is somewhere to be reminded of the power of love and of kindness, without pretentiousness, pressure, or intimidation. The sermons are relatable, interesting, and Breads overall approach to Christianity feels current to 2019, to social justice & equality, to the real world swirling around us. When we started coming to bread, my husband and I had pretty much given up on church. Based on our experiences in a number of churches in California and abroad, we had developed two criteria for a community of faith that we could feel comfortable being part of. First, we wanted to be in a community in which everyone was truly welcome, including LGBTQ folks, and not in a fake, 'you're welcome as long as you stop being yourself' kind of way. (Call me crazy, but I'd prefer to be part of a church that upholds at least the ethical standards of a public middle school classroom). Second, we wanted to be part of a community that actually seemed to believe in what they believed in, balancing the provision of a safe space for people to voice doubt and ask questions with a community culture that generally affirmed that God is real and accessible. Apparently, these characteristics tend to be inversely correlated within the Southern California church landscape. We spent time in a number of environments that fulfilled only one of these criteria or the other, and even tried, unsuccessfully, to google "church that doesn't suck." At bread, we have found a community that not only fulfilled both of those characteristics, but has also provided opportunities for authentic relationships, challenged us to grow spiritually (particularly in experiencing the Holy Spirit), and helped us understand what church can and should be. The women and men who speak on Sundays and lead in various ways do so with consistent humor, intellectual rigor, honest vulnerability and a humility that comes from seeking to build God's kingdom rather than their own. It is a place where everyone is welcome on their own terms and everyone gets to play. It is moving to Los Feliz Elementary as of October 21. Fairly suspect to have so many 5-star reviews, which is the only reason I considered giving 4 stars, but 4 isn't going to convey how I feel about this community. I showed up one day last fall by myself and fully expected to "check it out" once and never go back, but I guess there was another plan for me because I'm drawn back every week and somewhere along the way this place became my home. Plus I've met a bunch of cool and wonderful people that I'm grateful to call close friends now. So come as you are, sit in the back if you must, and maybe meet one person (if you feel like it). I am so glad to have found Bread Church at this time in my life. It seems to be a collection of people who, like me, are looking for a different kind of church experience than what we have had before - one a bit stripped down to the basics of the gospel, free of the showmanship and hype. I've found this has been such a wonderful place to reconnect with the love of God, and experience the Holy Spirit, both which had previously been clouded by many negative church experiences. It has been so easy to get to know people, and I've made some great friends that I've been able to turn to during some tough times. I appreciate that the leadership is transparent, honest, and there to point us to Jesus, not take credit for themselves. They are truly welcoming of all, and for once I know I can invite friends of all backgrounds to the services without worrying that they will be given the side-eye - just as Jesus intended church to be. read more
