I've had my ups and downs with this church over the years, but I do want to acknowledge that they have made noticeable improvements. My biggest concerns are that services and events can be quite loud, attendees sometimes block much of the sidewalk, and parking can become difficult when surrounding spaces are filled, including areas where parking may not be permitted. read more

Julian is a great pastor and teacher. He can break down complex, relevant subjects in a memorable way. One of the best communicators I've seen in a long time. Much of the congregation seem to still be infants spiritually. I understand everyone starts somewhere but one quick look at the church's IG and it's obvious they seem to focus more on appearing cool and trendy than actually "saving all of LA". I could see how people who don't fit a certain aesthetic are often overlooked since there's so much emphasis on things the world cares most about.They should focus more on soul checks than fit checks as it's not a fashion show. It's unfortunately becoming more and more worldly and there are too many things for show. Maybe having more solid elders around could help to balance things out. Otherwise it's giving the kids at school who were doing whatever they could to be in an "in" crowd but missing the whole point and not realizing it comes off as lame. If people didn't have cool outfits or a stylist would they feel as seen and welcomed? Some sunday different leaders speak, other days they may not. Especially after they assume you aren't going to be on a serve team as if that is the only possibility for service. The church can't compromise so much that no one can tell the difference between you and the world. I'm not saying we should stay in a little holy bubble. However as the church becomes too comfortable with culture, its witness is compromised and it begins to forfeit the favor of God. Different gimmicks like dancing to Kendrick while marching into the church with bible in hand in videos.. are a bit cringey but more importantly it focuses on outward appearance (reformation) but not an actual transformation. Gimmicks (after having to do something bigger and more attractive) run out eventually just like anything in this world. Numbers are deceiving that's why told David not to count his men. Like many churches in the scripture, the focus is beginning to feel as it is not as much on Christ. Like Ephesus the church can be a serving church, sacrificing, steadfast, and separated (teaching the right doctrine) but still forget about their first love. Like Ephesus I hope they don't follow suit and become known as careless. Like Pergamum I hope they don't become known as compromising. The 3 things I'd encourage them to do is simple. Remember (the church's first love) Repent (turn directions) and Repeat (repeat what you did when you first received Christ) read more

I have been enjoying this church now for over 15 years. My children are all grown up and I got the opportunity to volunteer in the children's church. I personally volunteered with Julian and he is an absolute man of God and Gods love flows through him and I am grateful of this. I believe I was the first person to review this church online. I was not trying to judge the church itself, but after coming from Texas and the things experienced there and knew the struggle of finding a church home and feeling like you are part of the Lord's family. I love the very diverse space and people of Oasis. The energy is amazing as ever. The love of God is there and they are really doing what they can to save the city. Go Oasis! read more

Oasis LA is overshadowed by its ineffectiveness in helping transform the surrounding conditions of Los Angeles. Even the sidewalk around the church is barely walkable and the church itself calls the cops on homeless individuals who disturb the peace. What's sad is that the old building reminds us of a time when Christians left the city better and more beautiful than before. Now it seems with every new church plant, the city's social & economic decline gets worse! In Oasis' efforts to be politically "neutral", they end up sounding lukewarm and spiritually compromised about the most pressing social issues of our time. Planned Parenthood may as well set up shop nextdoor and no one would care. City Hall feels no need or inspiration to clean up its corruption. Our mayor visits Oasis and it's an IG photo-op, but when will our church leaders ever hold her and other leaders accountable when the fruit of their policies are hurting so many Angelenos, dishonor God, and destroy our beautiful city? Los Angeles and California won't get better until people wake up and VOTE better for starters. And too many churches like Oasis remain too woke to be awake. I wanted to come back to this review and write what really happened! I moved from San Francisco in April and just started going to Oasis in November and because the preaching was solid so I went back! One day after the word and service was over, I wanted to talk to the pastor and share my appreciation for the word, and when he saw me waiting and then I approached him, not even a word to me, he just sent Nikki to deal with me and she asked me what I was doing now and follower her to downstairs the women's bible study! I was grateful I got to meetup with these women but thought how disrespectful black men can be to their black sisters! Yes even the pastor! Despite this happening I still went back! I came and parked in the lot and grumbled about the $5.00 charge and how I may have to pay every week and that can be a lot of money! So this black brother in the parking lot greeting team telling people they loved them said. "If after service you come back and I see you, I will pay for your parking!" I was overjoyed with the word I received and got back to the parking lot, the brother looked at me and said, " have a great day! " did he straight lie to be or did he forget that quickly? So that is the 2nd brother black brother at this church that seem to disregard me in 2 weeks! But I still went back to this church! Meanwhile I'm going here I must have filled out this connect card 5 times because it was time for me to connect in a group, through groups etc...I had not received a resorted and it's been 6 weeks at this point! The women's bible study ended and I went to a fee events and I felt really happy to connect this way! After that Sunday last bible study Monday I was in bed sick for 14 days straight and could not believe it! I was stuck in unbelief why I got sick but I reached out to the church for help with a few bills or rent as I was a big tithes here so i fell behind because of 2 weeks no working! Bottom line we don't have the budget to help you and you should contact an outside agency to help you. I thought oh! As long as I keep making those 100s of dollars if tithes check and never ask for help it's all good! After I wrote this review Christ reached out to me and said we're going to help you, after he apologized for letting my 5 requests fo connect to groups and service fall by the wayside! Then an Asian lady texted me and said you want to serve, can you start this coming Sunday cleaning the bathrooms? I couldn't believe my eyes! Seeing or experiencing all this and at this point they refused to help me and wanted me to serve and scrub toilets! They only reached out to me because they saw that I wrote this review and then right to correct it by reaching out to me then! At this point I decided no more! I had 2 black men disregard me, 1 being the pastor and another parking guy, and now 3 others saying basically keep paying tithes, don't ask for help and serve by scrubbing toilets! God bless them and I didn't mean to get sick, but I did need help emergency help! In the end I went I pulled myself together and went to work still sick and was late on my rent, got an eviction notice and God came through without them! I considered my church family more important that my bio family and was shocked that the pastor helped a law student with books that didn't even ask for it a few weeks ago when he was so called prophesying! And he bragged about his lavish Christmas vacation in Cabo San Lucas coming up on the 29th of December and that he would be drinking! So my thoughts are they are still Christian even though they didn't help me, but I'm concerned about their priorities. I still pay tithes her it's just 1.00/ month instead of 150-300 a month, and decided to go to a church that the first day I was there more than 10 people smiled and talk to me! Certainly Oasis Church in Los Angeles isn't for everyone, no church is, but I would urge Victoria who left a comment of two stars to give oasis another try. Take it from one who typically says "OK let's get to the word being taught" I absolutely love worship at Oasis Church. It typically leaves me with tears in my heart and streaming out of my eyes... And I'm not a very emotional person, but their worship takes me there. It's my opinion if we join any congregation for services consider what we bring to the experience; a flawed and particular human being simply coming together in community with a focus on the Lord rather than the tiny little cracks in the vessels all around us, even on the platform I believe you will be blessed. Oasis is exactly that, an oasis in the world, in the state, in the community of Los Angeles for those who would simply love a moment to exhale and give and receive an embrace from The Lord and his people. There's also a lot of diversity and a focus on Bible-based teaching with a slant on the gifts of the Spirit (right up my alley, if I'm being honest, as I got saved in college at a Charismatic, non-denominational church in Miami). Oasis is a mirage, it's empty and dry: be careful about attending this church and more so, falling into the trap to volunteer. This is a mega church, dropping a clothing line on Easter, that's all you need to know! I attended this church since 2017, only two years ago, I joined their worship ministry and choir and served as a leader. When reporting to leadership about member's concerns, they quickly brushed everything off. Their focus was more on putting on a show and becoming popular themselves. They don't care about ppl, the gospel or the truth. Their only care is to get as many people to donate money and their time to keep up with the antics. They make a spectacle of faith. Upon my exit- sadly, I still was considering returning just as a member and not serve at any level, I contacted the head pastor via email. Now, I heard about his condescending attitude and unwillingness to meet with members, but the way he reacted to my approach on emails was disturbing. He ended up CC'ing me without realizing and was telling his staff he was trying to find out ways to make me stop if needed. I told him three members wanted to meet with him regarding the focus of the church lately. He compared himself and an other leaders to Bible figures and explained that he's unable to meet most of the time because of his other commitments. Him and the leaders are quite active on their social media pages, making comedy skits even. But time for tending to people is out of their commitment requirements, I guess. I had also emailed him about a woman I met since attending Oasis. She shared with me that she was promised rent assistance back in August, but that check was never mailed to her. The pastor admitted this was a clerical error, however became upset at me and said he would block me on email because I wasn't satisfied with his answer. He didn't even apologized for this person experiencing the consequences of the church family she trusted to help her in the time of need. It wasn't ten dollars, it was almost 2k that his staff had allocated erroneously. I can imagine the amount of ppl giving money to help others and the church is only giving empty promises to ppl in need. The church invited two prophets, a few months ago and these prophets told the members to give a "spiritual sacrifice" of 1k each ...to save them from generational curses. As if Jesus' death is not enough for any believer and those coming to Him! This altered the members and myself to ask for a meeting with the pastor. The pastor too, advertises himself as a prophet. If you speak up, you're advised to pray over the leaders. The ppl on the elders board are nothing but his close friends too. They will outright tell you they support all decisions from the pastor, that means even when he tells women in the media team the church would cover the cost of acting classes, because he tells them the Spirt wants them to go into acting ... rent assistance is out of the question but acting classes are for sure covered by the church! Like the other reviewers warned , definitely this is not the place to find truthful spiritual guidance and not the place to give your money to,unless you don't mind your pastor's message not matching when he gets off the pulpit. Yes, it's very clique too and they love it. They love to have ppl who are deemed as popular to volunteer to serve their purposes, which is for their own personal gain. Today was my first time at this church, and it was a pretty bad. Right when we walked in, there was security, which I completely understand, but things got weird quickly. I handed over my purse as requested, and the security guy looked at my husband and said something like, 'Does she understand anything?' which was rude. He had wristbands with him and I handed out my wrist because I thought he was giving out wristbands, and he made this sneaky comment like, 'You're not at a club, hand me your purse.' I was really confused since it was my first time there, so I just smiled and walked away, but the whole interaction felt super uncomfortable. He ended up putting the wristband on my purse, but it would have been nice to explain the purpose of the wristband.. The worship part was beautiful, but it did feel a little bit like a production. The lead pastor didn't preach today, so they had a guest speaker instead, who happened to be the lead pastor's mentor. He barely mentioned the Bible--the sermon was mainly about his own opinions. He even said he considers himself an apostle but doesn't like to use the title because 'Apostles are weird.' That was bizarre to hear from a pastor. And then, of course, he talked a lot about giving money to the church, emphasizing the whole tithing one-tenth thing. The whole thing just gave me major icky vibes--felt more like a sales pitch for the church than anything about God. My husband and I are debating giving it one more try when the lead pastor actually preaches, since we did enjoy the worship and the church is really diverse but honestly, the guest speaker and the security left a really bad taste in my mouths... read more

It's taken me ten years to leave this review. I was asked to leave the church because I have a service dog. Her exact words were "that's fine and if you were blind I would understand but you're not so you'll have to leave the dog at home." I have several mental health disabilities so my disabilities are unfortunately invisible. I've been discriminated against many times for having a service dog, I never expected it from a church. It traumatized me so badly it's been 10 years and I still can't walk into a church. I have panic attacks. It drove me away from anything to do with god or religion or churches. I have and will continue to actively warn people against going to this church. They're everything Paul warned against in Galatians. I was never even allowed to speak to the pastor about it I was forced to try to talk to lower staff who again chastised me for my disabilities and told me I could come to the service but I wasn't allowed to speak to anyone from the college group. Because I offended them when I tried to bring my service dog, and fought for my rights as a disabled person. There was no reconciliation or grace. Only hostility and rejection and judgement. Not only do they discriminate against disabled people with service dogs, a year later someone reached out to me from the church to rectify the situation and I thought for a minute they would do the right thing. I thought for a minute they would have some understanding of grace and acceptance and kindness. Then she was advised not to speak with me and I received a nasty phone call from the church telling me not saying anything negative about them, and threatening me. They're a cult. Stay away. Maybe someday I'll be able to walk into a church again. But I tried after 10 years and I got sick to my stomach and had to leave. That's what they left me with. read more

Oasis is my church home. After being away from God for a couple of decades I was called to this church(coincidentally literally down the street and around the corner) after the pandemic and searching for church services online. After just one visit in person I knew this is where I was supposed to be. I thought I would be a church goer that would sit in the back take in the service and be on my way but God through my Oasis family(collection of Amazing Pastors, Men's Fellowship, Visionaries, Welcome Team and OVA(Oasis Visionaries Academy) had other plans. I'm currently attending our church academy, member of a couple of groups(oh my gosh there are so many groups that are available from run clubs to volleyball and something in between for everyone) that I Love being heavily involved in. I can't recommend this church enough especially how it has changed not only my life but my son's life and currently my other family members who have taken that same chance on Oasis that I did almost two years ago and now want to become members as well. God is definitely moving all throughout this church and it has been one of the Best Blessings of my life to occur to this point. read more

After 4 years of going to Oasis, I think it's unfortunately time to call it quits. Pastor Julian has such a strong and powerful conviction for the Word, which I often found so nourishing for my religious and spiritual journey, however, I increasingly noticed subtle (and sometimes not so subtle, super direct) beliefs that were preached that crossed huge lines (at least from what you'd expect for a such a diverse church in LA). Let's just say another comment below said they're a right-wing church presenting as a progressive one, and i don't know if it's that overt, but it's definitely in the ball park. They are not LGTBQ affirming, if anything the opposite, predominantly pro-life, having a few sermons ago equated abortions to guns (I'm not kidding) and continuously seem to reinforce certain traditional values that I just personally couldn't align myself with. However, there's still a lot of good this church does, so maybe other people can connect and my time has just passed needing them. Just my experience- try it for yourself! read more

Great church! Come as you are dress code. People are very friendly and approachable. I enjoy the worship and teaching every time I attend a Sunday service at 1pm. The worship isn't rushed and it's encouraged to take time in the presence of God. I now usher for the 1pm service. It's great! The team is kind, helpful, joyful and ready to work together. This church has an awesome fellowship with GT, connect groups, community hour, and outreach team. I love a lot about this church. It reminds me of my home church Turning Stone in San Antonio, TX. The moment you walk in the door you are embraced with love and music. Two of my favorite things. This church then goes into detail about giving back to the community and uniting as a children of God. What in the natural world??? I have been attending Oasis for about 12 years, first as a married woman and then as a single mom. I have served on many teams at Oasis and have gotten to know the staff very well, and have spoken to the pastors on occasion. They don't pretend to be perfect people, and I have found them to be humble, warm and grounded in their faith. I have spoken to Holly a couple of times about struggles I have had and she has been unfailingly honest and wise. We're not buddies - I tend to dwell amongst the single parents and outreach folks. But knowing who she is, and after observing Pastor Philip in different settings in ministry, they're good people. They just are. Last Sunday during a sermon he was interviewing a couple who had been shunned by Christians who couldn't see fit to tolerate their particular brand of sins. Pastor P started to cry and say that he knows as a leader that he doesn't always make the "best call." I could relate because I have made my share of mistakes as a leader. One time I got to share my single mom story at an event, and he thanked me for my transparency. It's something they value, apparently. I am mystified by some of these reviews, because I don't know this church they are describing. These reviews are getting a lot of "useful" likes, and they represent people who are being convinced not to come. That makes me sad. I have been a volunteer leader for years, including on the worship team. No one ever asked me to sign something saying I would only give to Oasis! I split my 10% between a few Oasis ministries - that option is available - for a while but stopped doing it that way about a year ago of my own volition. I just pay my tithe and let them figure it out. I also give to other mission organizations. Nobody cares. There's a parking structure with signage across the street. If you go to the 9 am service, parking is free. FREE. They can't afford not to charge for parking all day. This is LA. As for mentioning it in service, I would rather a new person be informed where to go to pay, than head straight to the parking lot and get a $16 surprise when they could have paid $2.50. I was there when that prophet came. A single dad friend who had been walking around on crutches for a year, after severely breaking his leg and almost losing it, was healed. To this day, he walks around normally without assistance. I saw them prophesying over many people for many reasons that weren't financial. Holly leads a women's ministry with an annual conference that serves thousands of women. It's not a stretch to prophesy that God would would work through her to reach many others around the world. People don't whip out their Bibles because most people have apps. This is 2017. The scripture is on the screen for people who don't have Bibles. The sermons. Sometimes I am moved. Sometimes I'm not. No pastor is on fire 100% of the time. Sometimes I walk in there with an attitude and it is going to be hard to light me up. They mix it up with different teaching pastors and guest speakers. The pastors aren't arrogant enough to believe they are the only ones with anointed things to say. I have heard the pastors say on many occasions that people who are new should not be compelled to give. But the church cannot pay its mortgage and utilities when only 10% of people, on average, feel it is their responsibility to help pay for operations of an aging, historical Church. People are very proud about giving to support issues about which they are passionate...but the church? Pass. I don't think everyone is lying here, not all disgruntled and mean-spirited. I believe some are very sincere. But I think it's worth considering that you may be discouraging someone from finding Jesus by a bad report of a singular experience, not unlike the spies who were sent to Canaan. Realize that the enemy is in the business of giving false impressions. He loves it when people are turned away from church. You should post whatever God puts on your heart, good or bad. Just make sure it's Him. I say this in love. There is a Welcome Tent available after every service where people can ask questions, and an ongoing four-week class called Growth Track for people who want to learn more about the church in depth. I encourage you to go to the tent, and talk to the friendly staff there before coming here posting away. No one at the church has any idea I have posted this. The band is very talented- the singers were good- but I felt like it was more of a production- very showy- "look at me" .... and lot's of emphasis on giving financially to this church- giving and working for the church- a little bit of JC, but then let's remember the more you give to this church the more you get out? what the? It was every other sentence from the pastor, even did a count of $462 on stage- with cash -saying that is what an average monthly offering should look like based on a 55K income. Warning to my fellow Christians: I went to a service that was supposed to have a renowned Prophecy Pastor. I forgot his name as I had a very bad experience. I believe it was Richard something...Anyways. He was bringing multiple people to heal them of their ailments in Jesus name. I was one that was not healed but actually felt worse as it felt like I had been touched by the hands of the devil's work. False prophet and false healing. All the prophecies were about A BIGGER BUILDING, A BETTER JOB, SIX FIGURES BEING SEEN IN THE FUTURE, PASTOR PHILLIP BECOMING A PROPHET HIMSELF, AN AMPHITHEATER WITH CELEBRITIES, AND ACTING CAREER FOR A LITTLE GIRL. I was so displeased by this type of teaching as God does not promise any type of riches unless that is something he wants to provide for you in your lifetime. A life of Christianity is filled with a lots of pain, suffering, trials and tribulations just like what Jesus went through so we may learn to lean fully on God and love him. There was nothing that was not materialistic in his teachings. His wife was prophesying the same things to people. I saw bullshit in their eyes. Afterwards Pastor Holly could not even look me in the eyes. She had this look of deep guilt and frustration at my not seeing any glory or goodness in their works that happened that night. This may be a church of extortion. But I will never know. And like the Bible said, many will come in His name and create their own teachings through the Bible. Trickery and lies was very much viewed by myself, when I attended that Wednesday night service. I have now started my journey with Saddleback Los Angeles after reading Pastor Rick Warrens: Purpose Driven Life. Avoid this church at all cost. Exactly how another yelper said. This is a place for people that want to feel like they are being a good Christian when their sermons teach nothing of Jesus's teaching. There weren't any bibles in the seats & I didn't see a single person bust the bible out, except for the pastor. Pastor used Acts 10 to talk about hearing gods voice, but didn't explain the verse itself & its message on baptism & the Holy Spirit. Didn't even say to study the word in order to hear gods voice. He basically talks about whatever he feels, and uses a few bible verses to support it, instead of just teaching the bible and pulling the lessons from the bible. Does that make sense? The sermon was severely lacking & way too short. I'm surprised anyone got anything out of that church. I will never go back, and this is a first for me. I've been to churches all over America, this is only the third church I've vowed to never return to. It's cool for young ppl that wanna feel like Christians, but it ain't a real church. The pastor mentioned how good looking the pastors were, Bc I guess that's what matters at church. It's clear that their focus is to look good and "feel good", not the bible. read more

I love Oasis! It's diverse but not pretentious and they truly preach the Word of God. It's also fun and a place to find true community.

I am disappointed with the way some people review churches. It's not anyone's job to put a negative label on a church simply because it's not the kind of place YOU would attend. If you don't like a church, don't discourage others from going there and tell them which churches you think are better. People need to know what a church is like... Not what you like. Oasis is helping to draw people to Jesus Christ. That's important. Anyone who tries to tell people not to go to a church that changes lives for Christ is doing a great disservice. That said... Oasis does have a loud concert-like atmosphere. Since most churches don't take this approach, I can understand why it is not everyone's cup of tea. It's not your typical church where everyone worships the Lord in a strict uniform manner. Worship takes many forms. Oasis simply does worship in a very Hillsong-like way. If you don't like Hillsong, which is loud, Oasis is not for you. However, loud music does not necessarily equate to bad music. In fact, Oasis has some incredibly gifted and dedicated musicians. Pastor Philip's messages are also a great blessing. However, if you are looking for an in-depth chapter and verse bible study, Oasis is not for you. Pastor Philip teaches mainly on relevant real-life topics based on scripture. As with any church, the key to growth is to get involved. There are a ton of ways to serve and grow spiritually at Oasis. Those who are planted and take root at Oasis will tell you that their church is a great place to connect with God. I recommend giving Oasis a try. If you don't like it, there's certainly no pressure for you to stay. Dress code ranges from dressy to very casual. Come as you are. read more
