Win that bread! Bread Winners is the underdog of North Park. It sits quietly near Center Park Garden, unassuming, and without much notice. I've never seen it "busy." It just recedes into the bushes of modern commerce while most of us are shopping at Lululemon. Yet, it's very distinct. It brings some of that McCormick & Schmick's charm that has sadly been missing for over a decade now at this same mall, and you'd be doing yourself a terrible disservice if you didn't check this fine place out and dine here at least once. I deducted a star as I ordered mine specifically with no onions and alas, they came out with onions cooked inside the scramble. The food took a while to come out and I just dealt with it as I didn't want to wait any longer. I do appreciate them offering to redo it. I also ordered a latte and fresh grapefruit juice. I had breakfast here recently and kept it classic with 2 eggs over medium, bacon, breakfast potatoes, and gluten free toast with butter and jelly. I also had gluten free french toast on the side. And an espresso, a coke, and a spicy Bloody Mary. I gotta say I loved everything I ordered besides the Bloody Mary, which was a little too spicy for me. It started burning my stomach, bleh!! My friend and I stopped by Breadwinners this past week while shopping at North Park and decided to enjoy the beautiful Texas weather by sitting on the patio. The outdoor seating is in a lovely courtyard, surrounded by shops, which made for a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. I wish the waffles had more of that jalepeno flavor as they are jalepeno waffles but that is more of a personal preference. Second time trying brunch out and again, I wasn't impressed. My sister was craving their cheddar jalapeño waffle and I agreed to go despite not feeling it the first time around. My waffle was ok, nothing special, strawberries should have been fresher. My bacon was cooked perfectly but was very generic tasting, not the best but my scrambled egg was good. I had a taste of my sister's waffle and I wasn't impressed, despite the waffle being loaded it was basic in taste also. Pineapple upside down mimosa: 6/10 not really a fan of the flavors here. It was cute but the flavor was meh. Steak and eggs: 5/10 this dish came out cold. I ordered the banana bread French toast and my wife ordered the eggs Benedict- we asked for both to be split so we could try something sweet and savory. They were kind and plated them separately for us, so we had a nice presentation of both entrees. The pictures are of half portions. We had way too much food and probably ate half our entrees. The food was tasty. The banana bread French toast was a little too crumbly for my liking and would have been better without the nuts in my opinion. The chicken had good flavor, but my friend said the waffle was dry. Mt tuna salad and grilled veggies were well made. Coffee tasted quite flavorless. Either the machine needed to be cleaned or they need to use better beans. I would not recommend the cappuccino. It was nice though that they provided complimentary coffee cakes that are 4 flavors. Brunch potatoes were incredibly salty, underdone, borderline raw, & very disappointing - took two bites & had to stop because of how salty they were. They put an over easy egg on the Benedict instead of a poached egg. The Benedict was also incredibly salty - had to remove the croissant & ham because I could feel my mouth swelling from the salt. Only ended up eating the asparagus & egg. Overall, service was great, but I was very dissatisfied with the food. Brunch potatoes were about the same as last time - soggy. I'm guessing they switched to over easy eggs for the Benedicts because the chef can't make poached eggs properly. This most recent trip was not so great. The food tasted good, however some dishes came out cold. There was a major lack of professionalism and attentiveness from the server. Each step of the process was long and drawn out, especially when trying to pay and leave. He was more interested in chatting with his fellow servers (who apparently had nothing to do) than running our card. The checkout process alone was over 20 minutes. Not good when you have a toddler that is done with the experience and wanting to leave ASAP. When we ordered drinks, he informed us about the daily special (half price bubbles on Mondays). When we got the check, none of our drinks were discounted accordingly. We didn't say anything for fear of it taking another 20 minutes to fix. The ambiance was sort of old and empty. I absolutely loved the outdoor seating area. The greenery iron and bricks makes me feel like I was transported to another part of the country. The service here was decent. Food came out quick for early morning. They gave us some complimentary goods from their bakery which were really good. I had their chicken fried steak and eggs. This is always a solid choice for brunch when in the area. Their Mexican hot chocolate is divine if you can handle a little bit of spiciness. The steak and eggs were okay, I ordered the steak medium but it was a little over done and on the drier side but understandable as this isn't a steakhouse. The bread assortment they provide as an appetizer is fairly good, but the zucchini bread is by far a family favorite. Fun fact is that you can buy it by the loaf, if you ask.
