But the selection is mostly MtG and other TCGs. They have mini games, but only Warhammer and the 5e D&D minis. The only real stand out was a handful of Indiana Jones splat books amidst a sea of 5e D&D books. So, I mean, friendly and clean is good. But the selection, for me, left way too much to be desired.

When new boardgames are released, it's not uncommon to catch them test playing in the front of the shop.

Daryl, another fella sorry forgot his name and Harold the father / owner of the company. All three were fantastic, very honest and helpful. We did our transaction, and I received a fairly Large Check. I left the store and did deposit my check into the bank. then a day or two after that I went in for a major 4.5 Hour surgery on my back. spent a week in the hospital and when I got home from hospital, check was still not in the bank. The bank screwed up, and the check never got deposited and the bank knew their system screwed up. Unfortunately for me the Bank requested that I ask H.B Rice for another check. This is where everything fell apart. Once I started to deal with Harolds daughter (Who i feel sorry for Dad because he is turning the Business over to her and she is just terrible with people. I hope Harolds hard work after all these years doesn't go down the drain when she takes it over. She already feels empowered and above others. SO, i am now in a recliner and I have a back brace on and could barely walk across the floor without special equipment, and it still was almost impossible. I explained to her my situation and believe me it went in one ear and out the other. No Mercy, kindness or empathy from ROBIN. I'm telling you this is NOT a kind or caring person! I called and needed to speak with ROBIN because she was the person who wrote the checks. As always and I mean every single time she will answer the phone and tell you she has like 12 eyes staring at her and she is VERY BUSY! Throughout this ordeal I called to speak with her like 3 maybe 4 times and I kid you not She is always in a hurry. She has a wonderful way of making you feel like your really getting in the way of her success and she has 2.3 Seconds for you to explain your problem. I explained it to her and she immeaditly went right to "Oh No , I can not do that. I would need the check that she gave me in order to write another check. I asked her why she can't do a stop payment on that check that I no longer have because it was deposited in the bank and the next day it was taken out due to a problem with the bank. She was very insistent that I go to the bank and make them find the check so that I can return it. I told her the bank can print a copy of the check, but they would not be able to produce the original check. ROBIN it must be the original. Each time I called she went into her extremely busy and likes to display herself as important. I would suggest they move her much further back into a different room because the poor thing always has 6 to 18 eyeballs on her as she is speaking on the phone. Anyways Harold stepped in and went to the bank where they told him he can stop payment on the check and write another check. No Problem. They knew I didn't cash it (Or no one has) because the large sum of money was still in HB Rice account. They mailed me the check because i was in pain and trying to heal from surgery. Thank you Harold. I must say that my favorite part dealing with ROBIN was when she told me that she has gone way above and beyond for me. And she said you're going to have to take it up with the bank. I'm thinking are you kidding me. You see the money is in your account and I have NOT been paid yet (Banks Fault) but I said so what do you want me to do. Bank cannot do anything without another check. She refused and hung up on me. I called back and she would not answer my call. Like wow, I had one chance to deposit this check without failure and now she basically says oh well we are keeping the money. Of course, I am going to say we might have to go to court. like she had no idea what was going on. And she sounded like she held all the power, and she believed I would just whimper down and forget the well over $10,000. That is what I was dealing with. it's incredible. I could not believe what she was saying. I kid you not. She left me no choice what else can I do; other than we will have to go to court and then she lost it completely. She leaves me no other option Like Ok I guess I will forget about it. She is just completely unreasonable. I had a business for 37 years and employed 11 employees. The future does not look good for H B Rice. Maybe if they can convince her to stay away from people, I mean don't answer a phone, probably not even an email. Anyways I got the check, and it deposited I called to let her know it was all good and I was set. This was a day later, and she still wasn't taking my call. thank God Harold (A man with a brain) stepped in. Otherwise, there is NO DOUBT in my mind we would be going to court and Harold, and the other employees don't deserve that. Please call HB Rice and ask for ROBIN. she will tell you she is very busy and then she will provide the #of eyes that are placed upon her. Poor thing. Sorry Harold You built a beautiful biz. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill the moment I walked in. One employee immediately gave me a harsh look and stared at me from across the room. I didn't even realize he worked there at first, so I tried to move out of his line of sight. Another employee eventually approached me, and I explained that it was my first visit and I wanted to look around before asking questions. He was friendly and helpful -- I honestly wish he had been the one assisting me the whole time. Instead, the first employee eventually came over and asked if I needed anything, but his tone and body language made me feel unwelcome, as if he wanted me to leave rather than browse. It took the excitement out of what should have been a fun first visit. Bottom line: the store itself was great, but the attitude from that particular employee made the experience uncomfortable and disappointing.

The store is well organized. A monthly calendar is posted in the front window, with upcoming board game nights, D&D drop-in nights, card games, and more. I stopped in for Free RPG Day (thank you for doing these!). Easy parking in the lot.

I came across this store from boyfriend who is in the military and currently stationed in Buffalo. As an anniversary gift he was on the hunt for issue #300 of the amazing Spider-Man. I've been trying for years to get a hold of this comic but could never find it at a reasonable price nor in good condition. My boyfriend found Empire Comics and talked with the store owners. They went above and beyond to help him! Not only did they managed to get a hold of the comic but were able to get one that was highly graded! I was in disbelief when I saw it and had to see this place for myself! I'm from CA and during my visit to see my boyfriend during the holidays, I went in to the store. I was welcomed by the store owners who were incredibly friendly and down to earth. They are fluent in all marvel and some anime. The store has a ton of good finds but if your looking for something specific they will go above and beyond to help you find it. As a comic collector and marvel nerd this means the world to me. I strongly value a business that goes above and beyond for their customers. After choosing a handful of comics, the store owners were kind enough to throw in a free comic and because I told them of my love for Spider-Man, they also threw in a free poster. But the best part was, free Christmas cookies were thrown in too! I had such a blast the entire time I was there. I really appreciate that they were so welcoming unlike other comic book stores who are often after your money or feel superior in their knowledge and like to belittle their customers.
