I had been to one other escape room before this and it was kind of lame. This one had much better themes and puzzles - it was really fun! We did the circus themed one which we heard was the second hardest and I want to go back and do the zombie one which is supposed to be the hardest. A group of people and I visited Breakout Escape Rooms on Monday, 5/15/23. We decided to do the Heart of the Pirate room. Overall, it was such a fantastic time. There were several tricky clues, but we were able to figure it out. We truly enjoyed the challenge and the theme. We did escape the room, with about 9 minutes to spare. WOOHOO! The employee that assisted us was Isaac. He was very helpful, friendly, and informative. Thanks to him, our experience was great. I recommend coming here with a group of people to have fun! It's not always easy to throw together a new group of 12 people for an activity, but a recent get-together at Breakout Escape Rooms meant that a good time was had by all. As a fan of trivia, riddles, and the old-fashioned scavenger hunt, I was excited to try my grey matter at breaking out of an escape room. How hard could it be? Like the rooms themselves, the answer is not always straightforward. We were "locked" into the Ringmaster's Den with one hour to solve the puzzles that would provide us clues to crack our way out. Immediately upon entering the room, we began scouring every square inch and quickly got several good leads. The room itself was true to the theme - colorful fabric draped from the ceiling like the big top of a circus, and circus-themed items abounded, whether or not they provided clues. Circus music played in the background as we worked feverishly to break out way out in record time. It seemed that the clock speeded up as we approached the end of our time and tried several combinations to get our way out. We ended up being successful, and we got the photo at the end to prove it! I've tried several escape rooms, and I enjoyed the organized setup, the immersing themes, and the challenging hints that this one provided. We were visiting family from out of state and were looking for something fun to do that kept us out of the cold. Cue in Breakout Escape Room! They had a Black Friday sale today so it was a no brainer. Luckily they had so many rooms to choose from and availability for the same night. All the rooms sounded like a good time and they very by complexity and how many people can participate. My bf, bff, and I made an appointment for the pirate room. Our game master was Bryon and he was excellent. He was so enthusiastic and had us laughing and doing our best pirate impressions. As a novice escaper this room is challenging but not impossible. Byron helped us along as we needed and gave clues when we were stumped. I can't wait to make this a yearly tradition. I'm hoping to check out the Orlando location too when I get back home :) read more

What a fun hour to spend! Our group worked to break out of the Zombie Roadhouse. This room is the most difficult so they give you an extra 5 minutes for a total of 65 minutes. We broke out in 64 minutes and 40 seconds. Yep, 20 seconds to spare! It's challenging and fun as your group tries to solve the multiple clues all throughout the room. It was our first time, but others in the group had done other escape rooms which helped because they knew what to expect. But the beauty is the fact that a wide range of ages can all participate. The puzzles take some thinking and common sense but aren't real difficult. It's a matter of everyone working together and using the clues they're finding. The more people the better because everyone has their own thoughts and processes for solving the puzzles. The people that work there are very helpful. They explain everything you need to know before you enter. They offer clues if they see your group is struggling a bit. They want it to be a fun experience for you and I can say with 100% certainty that everyone had a blast. I can't wait to go back and try another room and I would recommend this in a heartbeat for families, co-workers, classmates.... Even if you don't break out of the room in time, you'll want to go back and try it again! The perfect way to sum it up would be to say it's action packed fun! read more

Now that my wife and I are both fully vaccinated we're (slowly) emerging from our COVID lockdown cocoon and revisiting activities that we enjoyed before *it* happened. Heart of a Pirate at Breakout Ann Arbor (hilariously misspelled as "Breakoul Ann Arbor" in the confirmation email they sent us) was today's adventure, and it marks our first escape room in about sixteen months. * Staff was great (Jesse was our spirit guide) -- friendly, helpful, and clearly enthusiastic about the art of the escape room. * Decor was fun, both inside and outside the pirate room itself. * The quality, pace, and playability of the game was acceptable. It's a series of clue/lock steps that slowly progress through a treasure chest, ultimately leading to the infamous pirate's extracted heart. (The primary reason we chose this specific room was it's the only one that allows a two-person team to book it.) It's a solid 4 star experience (with the subtracted star for game design and overall polish). Money well spent for us. read more

My group really wanted to like this place but there were too many issues. The building was locked and we couldn't get in when we first got there. This caused us to get up there a little late. This was resolved after we called the main phone number but it took the person a couple tries to get a hold of someone. We got up to the escape rooms, the hosts had us sign our waivers and gave us a briefing of the room we were supposed to do. As we were heading toward the room we learned there were electrical issues and we were not able to do that room. The hosts offered us a different room which we decided to do since we were already there. When we got in there the timer didn't work. Being honest, some of the clues were pretty confusing even with help in the end. We felt like some of them didn't make sense. We have been to several Escape rooms so unfortunately we have something to compare it to. Advice: before the group arrives, make sure everything works and the room is set up. There was a lot of wasted time. Issues are understandable but the group should know this as soon as they arrive if not ahead of time and before waivers are signed. Offering another room was a great idea but I would have expected a gift card to come back. I was offered the chance to come back anytime but nothing in writing. So I wasn't going to write a review, but saw there were only 5 star reviews, so thought it needed some critique. I'll give a concise review for Ringmaster: Staff: Very friendly! Definitely very interactive in giving clues, but a little trigger happy on the help. Atmosphere: I have been to 30+ escape rooms, and this was one of the lowest quality in terms of decor and atmosphere, it just felt like a game in an office building (which to be fair, that's exactly what it is). Almost all the clues are analog (physical locks) and no electronic puzzles. The storyline was almost non-existent. Puzzles: They were non-linear, which can be fun, but everything felt disheveled and not cohesive. The puzzles felt well thought out, but not very intuitive or interesting. May come back, but didn't quite feel worth the price honestly. read more

I just came out from the Zombie Breakout in 61minutes 12seconds with 14 people. This is definitely a great group activity where everyone scrambles to figure things out, talk with each other about the clues they found and figure out the puzzles. The puzzles vary and some are simple while others are elaborate. I mostly just helped out here and there while others figured out other puzzles and find keys. All in all it was fun and I wouldn't mind doing the circus and spy themed break out. read more

It was my first time going to an escape room. My sister got my family the 8 pack special for Christmas and my kids were very excited to go. I didn't think I'd like it, but went along. I'm so happy I did. It was so much fun. I LOVED it. Our room master was super nice and made the experience a lot of fun. Although we didn't escape the zombie room, we gave it our best try. I'm surprised anyone could get out at all. The puzzles were challenging and fun. They were also really well thought out. How anyone could come up with these boggles my mind. We had a private room which was really nice. It made for a great family and friend night. We even brought my sister that bought the package for us and she had a blast, too. It's a great place for corporate team building outings, too. Try it, you'll like it. A little hint for the zombie room. Stand by the main electric box (you'll know which one I'm talking about) and sing the Bee Gees song Stayin' Alive. You'll be happy you did! read more

A group of three of us played A Game or Espionage. It was ... okay. At this point, the three of us (along with two other friends) have done dozens of escape rooms all over the state. We even won a local contest by escaping seven rooms at seven different locations with the lowest average time! And I can honestly say this is the worst room we have ever done, and it was accompanied by the second-worst experience with escape room staff we've ever had. First, when we called to book, they tried to turn us away because the room has a four-person minimum. This is not the only time we've encountered rooms with minimums. However, it's usually because of the number of puzzles in a room and how many people the staff believes are necessary to successfully escape. I will say that we have successfully talked our way out of these minimums before. Once staffs realize we're experienced players, they're usually happy to let us in. We certainly don't EXPECT special treatment. I only say this as a point of comparison for what comes next, which is that we offered to purchase four tickets and the staff agreed to let us make the booking. The four-person limit is clearly financially motivated, not only for that reason but also because the three of us managed to escape with time to spare. We love escape rooms and are happy to pay what's necessary to help them be successful, but other escape room owners have been kind of horrified by that story. I don't know. Make of that what you will. The employee who brought us in, went over the rules, and explained the room's backstory was a young man who didn't seem to want to be there. He sighed a lot and was kind of condescending. Not a great start. We weren't thrilled with the puzzles, several of which were nether clearly indicated as puzzles nor solvable without outside knowledge. We kind of guessed on some of them. Our guesses worked. That makes them different in pretty much every way from what we've come to expect from escape rooms. The setting was appropriate for an office, if not beautiful or exciting like some other rooms we've done. I did like that the staff communicated with us via a "fax machine" rather than a computer screen; that was a nice touch. I'm trying to come up with other things I liked, but there ... really wasn't ... anything ... If this had been my first escape room, I wouldn't have willingly agreed to do another. read more

I came in super skeptical-- I am definitely a "might is right" kind of guy, and puzzles do nothing but piss me off. However, these escape rooms are all the rage now, and the group I was going with offered to pay for the outing.Sooooo I decided, why not, it can't be that bad! My fears were made worse when we arrived at the location. We seemed to be at an abandoned office space-- the kind where some stupid developer had this dream of an office park, only to abandon the project when he/she realized it was in the middle of nowhere. We walk in and are greeted with corny halloween decorations and an even cornier video that looked like it came off youtube when youtube was a new website. But, as we entered the room, I was taken aback-- it actually seemed pretty cool. Whatever, it's probably lame, I told myself. However, as we transgressed through the room, it became apparent that a lot of time was spent coming up with the clues and decorations. By the end, we were ravenously trying everything we could do to work together and escape the room. Alas, we could not complete the ringmaster's den. This was a severe blow to the pride of 13 aspiring lawyers. Inferences are what we are made of. It left us dying to try this again. We will be back! My boyfriend and I just moved to Michigan from California and we have done over 50 games each. We did our first game in Michigan at Breakout! We loved how unique all of the puzzles were and how great the props were for the theme of the room. We have actually never done a circus themed room before. Our game master was super nice and the clue system is very cool. We especially loved that the room was non linear and had a TON of puzzles to do. This kept us busy down to the last second. Our only BIG complaint would be that this game requires you to do something that is FORBIDDEN in every single game we have ever done. Not cool, guys. Despite that, we still plan on trying all of their other rooms and would recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun room to try :) read more

As a work outing my entire department, all 13 of us, came to Breakout to do their Zombie Roadhouse. It's the hardest one they have, but with all of us there we were confident we could break out before becoming zombie food. I believe we had a total of 65 minutes to complete the tasks to get all of the keys to break out. I was surprised at how difficult some of the puzzles actually were, but it was great that they have a way to give you "clues" whether they help or not. You have to put your thinking hat on, and there are a few surprises along the way. Having so many people helped, because if you got stuck on a puzzle there was someone else who thinks differently and could help you solve it. It was a ton of fun, and we broke out with 8 minutes to spare and were one of the fastest groups they had! Top 2%! For the majority of us, it was our first time and we all really enjoyed it. read more

Did a breakout room for the first time this week. For the uninitiated, you're in a room and you need to, ya know... breakout of it in about an hour. In the room, there are various types of puzzles that lead to other puzzles and other puzzles that lead you (hopefully) out of the room. We did Zombie Roadhouse, and we died so hard. But we had a great time. The puzzles were fun, the atmosphere was great, and the dude/host was super friendly and helped make it a great experience. I'm already looking forward to trying one of their other breakout rooms. It's a fun way to soend an hour with some friends. read more

Went here with a group of co-workers recently and I think everyone was surprised what a good time we had. Our time flew by and we didn't quite break out, but that just made us feel like we have to come back and try another room. The guy who worked there was nice and helpful and I like how he ran through everything with us after. We did The Game of Espionage as some people in our group were concerned that The Ringmaster's Den would be too scary. The worker told us there are no clowns in that room so maybe it would have been ok. My only complaint is that I booked the room online it stated the price, but then when I checked out there was a $2 fee per person added on to the price. As I had already let my group know the price beforehand, this was an inconvenience that everyone had to owe a little more than we thought. I think the fee should just be included in the price stated on the website. read more

Went here with 5 friends (6 total) on a Saturday night at the last second. Totally impromptu and they were super flexible! We were treated to a fire throwing show outside before our game started, which was super cool. My friends have been pretty keen on trying a room escape game for a while now, but I was always pretty hesitant because I'm kind of a wimp and I thought it might've been too scary, but I really had nothing to worry about. We did the Ringmaster's Den room and it wasn't scary at all! It was so much fun and the puzzles are all very well thought out. They clearly went to a lot of trouble to make sure the games would be challenging, but they're not so hard that they can't be solved. They also kept telling us how impressed they were that we finished so fast which made me feel really smart, though I'm not sure if they do that for everybody ;) I'm pretty upset that they only have 2 rooms - I want a new one every month so I can keep going back!!! read more

This was my first experience at an escape room. I would do another one as I thought it was very fun. We had 13 people total in the Ringmaster's Den, which was probably too many people for that room. The clues were very varied in what they needed to be completed. I will say there was a clue on the ground from the last group that sped up our escape as it wasn't thrown away before we entered. :( I think the clues were timed well and the overall room was well planned. I personally think that it is too expensive to do again, but I would go back because it is fun, but hopefully when someone else is paying for me again. read more

We escaped the ringmaster with 7 people. I loved that this room (and seems like all of their rooms) work great with larger groups-- my experience with more traditional 'linear' escape rooms is that they are only as good with about 1/2 as many people as they claim can do the room-- This is not the case for breakout! They are really passionate about quality gameplay. The puzzles were intelligent and the mechanics of the room are on point. This location is a bit hard to find because the building is somewhat generic, so make sure you are paying attention to your GPS and don't miss it! read more

This was our first escape room and it was a fun one to ease us into them. We took a group of 7 of us of different ages to try to bring a variety to the table. We liked our host Matt. He was fun and encouraging, giving us hints when he saw we needed them. We almost got through it but just fell short of time. We will be trying out the other rooms and can't wait for them to make some new ones. I don't know if I would like 12 people that they say you can have in each room. The 7 of us was plenty of bodies in the smallish room. My suggestion would be to have a fan in the room. The a/c was pumping but with all the body heat it warmed up quickly. Having this was the first experience for some in our group, it was a huge let down from other escape games. The decor is horrible. It's almost like a big yard sale or liquidation sale in an office. There is not enough seating for everyone in the group before you begin the game. The staff person that helped us was nice enough but it felt very rushed. We did the ringmaster room-and not sure how any of it related. Since our group was larger in size, the other people in the group pretty much monopolized the whole clue findings/etc. It made for the people being there their first time very uneventful. The puzzles were very poorly crafted & cheap. It was okay but not worth a return visit at all. Bummer-we'll keep looking. read more
