Ann Arbor is severely lacking in kids indoor play places, so if you have small kids, this place is worth a drive out to. Very clean and organized kids play place. I would say it's perfect for crawling babies-about 9 years old. There is a baby/toddler only area. The lounge area is set up in a way where it overlooks the play area... with comfy chairs and couches. They have a room you can reserve for birthday parties. They have a cafe which sells coffee, snacks, and kids lunch items like grilled cheese, chicken nuggets, and mac and cheese. I did try a grilled cheese here and was very disappointed! But I had low expectations and it was still something I could eat. It was fairly priced at $3. My friend ordered mac and cheese for her kiddo and it looked creamy and delicious so I will try that next time. The cost for entry is $10 a kid, and it may be kids under a year are free but don't hold me to that. I was able to go in free with my infant and was able to spend some time conversating with a friend who has two toddlers. So it's a great set up where as long as your children behave properly, you can actually have conversations with other adults! If they stayed open until 7 or 8 and had a maximum height limit it would be perfect! read more

I popped on here to see the hours and was surprised to see a couple of recent reviews and feel compelled to share our wonderful experiences here. We've been here about 10 times over the years and have always had a great experience. In fact, both of our kids have chosen Chelsea Treehouse as their birthday activity (and they even give the kids a birthday sticker and a token for a free ice cream on their birthday which is such a nice gesture). I don't know what's not to love-kids are happy, parents are happy, lots of affordable food/drink choices, staff is always really friendly and professional and the place is very clean and well taken care of. This was a great indoor play space. $8 per kid and adults free. We had a great morning. The seating for adults was great: comfy sofas, nice tables for work if you needed to and nice tables for eating lunch. My kids loved sitting on a small table with the kid chairs. My oldest is 7 and enjoyed herself, I'm not sure it would be for kids much older than that ... maybe 10-12 max? Much older I would think would bore easily. Food and coffee wise: they had a specialty drink (island breeze or something like that) and it was delicious. All the food was yummy. They have a nice kids menu, something for every picky eater. Which I have several of! And they all ate something! If I lived in the area I would definitely look into a pass of some sort. read more

I purchased punch cards in 2019 for future visits. Literally printed on the card says "no expiration". | bought these knowing that I could use them any time without worry. I plan to take my four kids today and look on their website only to see "no longer accepting punch cards before 2020". I call ask about this because in bold letters it says "no expiration" in my punch cards. She got very defensive, told me they had given me a reasonable time to use them, acknowledged they opened back up after Covid in 2021 and there for 1 year was a "reasonable time to use them." | explained that I didn't buy them because they said use in a reasonable time--they say no expiration. asked if she was going to give me my money back since they were no longer hindering them. Great place to bring toddlers. Everyone who works here is so kind, friendly and accommodating. There is hand wipes and hand sanitizer everywhere, which is great. We went and had a blast the kids climbed and rode slides tills they were hungry. We didn't eat any food since the reviews I read before said not to waste your money on that part. There was different areas sectioned off so little ones didn't get run over. They have a ball room that contains the many balls with hoops. Kind of like an obstacle course with the different ways they challenge the kids to go through the Treehouse. Plenty of seating to sit and keep an eye on them. read more

Would like to have a floor monitor to provide safety as parents are too interested in their coffee and phones. Importantly, they need to enforce the age group areas also. What a cool spot for a play date! Nice that they have labeled age appropriate areas so that younger kids don't get run over. Best part...they have lots of couches, tables and chairs for parents so you can talk to your friends as you watch your kids play. You can see just about all the play areas from the seating too which is nice. AND they carry Zingerman's coffee, a variety of teas, and have a menu with healthy, yummy, affordable food. I am sure it's a fun place for kids, but this establishment needs to come up with a better way for first time visitors to know what the heck is going on when you walk in the door. I walked in to get information on the place, and there are a few people in a line behind a gate. I thought they were waiting their 'turn' for something and after asking, they couldn't tell me what the proceedure was to get in or what they were really waiting for, so I attempted to go through the gate and ask at the counter, as there was clearly a worker back there. The worker noticed me opening the gate and proceeded to yell at me from across the entire room, with all the customers as her audience. Parents, kids and all. It was embarassing. She yelled at me to wait and she will have to come get us. For one, there was no us, I wasn't going to take up space or time or business, and she was down right rude. Ok, let me first comment on the play area. This is fine if you're looking for something to do for just an hour or so. Not a very big play area and kids can get bored very easily. Now let's talk about food and the coffee. By far this is one of the worst coffee places ever. Now I understand some places can't match a true Italian cappuccino or Latte, but this was terrible. We paid over $10 just for coffee and it was terrible. I've actually had better in a gas station's The food is served on such flimsy paper plates that the plates were bending and falling apart when the girl was carrying them. Since there is hardly anything to do indoors with kids in Ann Arbor or the surrounding areas in the winter months, we came here to play with four 18 month old toddlers. I can't believe it's $8 a kid to play here, especially toddlers who will probably last an hour or less. I paid cash and asked for a receipt and not one staff member knew how to print me a receipt.... I bought a coffee that had almost no flavor and it was $4 are you kidding me? And you aren't allowed to bring snacks for your kids but instead have to buy tiny overpriced nonsense they supply. I get not being allowed to bring anything with peanut butter but I can't bring my own goldfish or gogurts? Hmm. Last thing I have to say, they have a THREE MONTH a membership here for two children for $100, that is just highway robbery. The hands on museum has a one year family membership WITH free guest passes for $150 and there's way more to do there than the treehouse. Our toddler loves spending time at the treehouse. It's very convenient for us so we normally head over on a rainy day when we can't play outside. I'm sure we will visit more this winter when we need to get some energy out. The staff is always friendly and seem to be busy. I usually see one person cleaning no matter how busy it is which is nice. We usually only spend about 2 hours before we're ready to leave. I'm personally disgusted for this establishments lack of consideration for public health, both for personal reasons as well as their participation in the Lansing protest on 4/15/2020. Of course you should be shut down right now! Your business is both non-essential and a breeding ground for germs on a good day! I visited with a group of friends with their children in 2017. I personally saw a child urinate in one of the play structures. I alerted the staff and it still was not cleaned up or touched by the time I left an hour later. Less than a week after our visit, my toddler was severely ill with a respiratory infection and required 3 days in the PICU at Mott's. Of course, I have no way of proving the illness was picked up at The Treehouse, but several other children in our group were ill afterwards and we really hadn't been anywhere else with them around that time. I went on a weekday afternoon with a friend and her 4 year-old son. I was anticipating a Jungle Java type experience. The Treehouse has JJ beat in a million ways. The entire area is clean, and for an OCD germophobe like me, the stations all around with hand sanitizer, baby wipes, and tissues are really appreciated. They also serve food, which I didn't try, but what I saw come out looked good with large portion sizes. Zingerman's baked goods are also offered. This was our first visit to The Chelsea Treehouse. We wanted something different than Jungle Java and the drive from Ann Arbor is pretty short. Check in was easy - sign in just like Jungle Java and they pumped some anti bacterial gel into my child's hand (without asking, which is a bit annoying. who knows if my child has an allergy to any of the ingredients?) The place is large, but mostly holds seating, and lots and lots and lots of it. Worn sofas and chairs that could use some cleaning and maybe reupholstering. The floors were dirty and overall it felt like it could use a good scrubbing, but so do most of these children's jungle gym places. The play structure itself is big, but not as big as Jungle Java and my daughter, who is 8, was ready to leave after about an hour and a half. They serve food, including Zingermans items and Barry's Bagels. I also saw baggies of cucumber slices, cheese sticks and yogurt tubes. We ordered a grilled cheese and it was okay, nothing special. They did cut a star shape into it and it was brought to our table on a paper plate. Bathrooms are cleaner than JJ and have brightly painted murals on the walls. It would be a much better experience if they closed for a weekend and cleaned the place up, removed and rearranged the furniture. The magazine rack wasa nice touch, but most mags were old (some from 2008!) and grimy, so...no thanks. We will probably go back, but not soon. You never know when the weather will turn or your kids just need an indoor air conditioned place to expend energy and it is great to have the Treehouse a short drive away. On my son's second birthday we drove over an hour to get here and had family meet us. We called ahead to make sure we could bring a birthday cake and were told we could. When we arrived we were told no we couldn't have a cake and that we couldn't book a birthday either. The manager and workers were not helpful at all and my son's birthday was ruined! Great place to take kiddos. Some areas could be better equipped for toddlers. For example, the hanging bars behind the toddler play area are for older kids, so a lot of older kids run through that area. What's strange is there are two areas for the monkey bars, and they're both at the same height. Why not make one of those areas better equipped for a different each group? The basketball area is also made for older kids, and there are no basketball hoops that are for toddlers or small kids. Also do not show your Toddler the menu, the only thing I has pictures on it, are the ice cream bars. It would be helpful to have a kids menu with pictures separate from the ice cream bars. The customer is always right? You must have us confused with someone who cares! First off, we were really excited about this place going in. The location is ideal, on a well-trafficked road close to Ann Arbor, & it IS decorated so that it's fun for kids. Our party was scheduled from 1-3 PM at a cost of $15.50/child (8 child min.,15% gratuity automatically added), which is almost 3x as much as the "walk-in" price of $7/child for those who don't have space reserved (we had 7 kids total show up, so it would have been $49 vs. $142.60). A little pricey, but OK. However, things quickly went south. The power went out about 10 min. after we got there and stayed out til our party time was almost over. OK, it happens. What was really frustrating was the response of "management". Food: Our party package included 1 pizza for 8 kids (1 slice per child!), along w/ pink lemonade. No food for the adults, only the option to order from the menu. When the pizza ran out, we asked if their ovens were still running so we could order more. We were told they order their pizza from Thompson's Pizzeria down the street, and we would be unable to get more. If we DID want any, we should have ordered before the party started. Huh?! Since THEY order their pizzas from Thompson's, could WE order from them & bring it back, given the circumstances? Nope. "Can't have any outside food brought in", which made me think, "but that's what YOU do! I order pizza from you, you call a place down the street, then charge me extra for driving to get it! And I can't just pick it up myself given the outage?" Our inquiries were met with a puzzled look from our party host. Okay, so no pizza. Maybe a warm bagel, cool salad, a popsicle?! No, nuh-uh and nope. Bagel toasters were down, and coolers/freezers couldn't be opened cuz it would have let the cold air out, spoiling any food in them. So..no more pizza, no bagels, no popsicles, no salads, no sandwiches. Overpriced Goldfish crackers anyone? Anyone? Atmosphere: Once the power went out, management promptly closed the place to the public. But nothing was said to the people that were already there. The manager (also the OWNER) never once came by to ask how things were going. What's more, the garage door was open and couldn't close (power outage!) and it was freezing (about 40 degrees out and we were right by the entrance). It was very dark inside the play area, almost completely so in many places. Kids were using their parents' phones as flashlights when they had to pee! At one point, my wife told the manager "well, this is very frustrating", to which she replied, "YOU'RE frustrated?". Yes, lady, we, the paying customers, whose daughter's party is being ruined by having to play in a cold, dark jungle gym where she, her friends & their parents are told that they can't order ANY food or bring any food in..yes, WE'RE frustrated. The owner promptly went back to doing what she was doing and ignoring everyone. She closed the place to the public, but still "locked in" her profits by not canceling the parties that were already there or even ADJUSTING the bill. When we brought it up, she just kept saying it was no one's fault. Yes, we realize the outage is NOT your fault, but the overall experience was ruined because of it and you can't give us an adjustment? Again, no. Not ONE PENNY was taken off our bill. We paid the same price as anyone else whose kids got to play in a warm, well-lit place with a full-functioning kitchen. Customer Service: When we asked about an adjustment, she became agitated & began to ARGUE with my wife & her friends, reiterating it was not her fault. I've been at restaurants where they've comped my ENTIRE BILL without me saying a thing because of a long wait, but this lady couldn't comp us ONE CENT for our troubles?! Puh-lease. DISGRACEFUL! But she did point out that SHE knows how to run a business, since she has THIS store in Chelsea & 1 in Chicago..which we pointed out has nothing to do with THIS situation. As the conversation got heated, the owner called upon her teenage employees to SURROUND us as "witnesses" & during the chaos, she had our party host run our credit card for the FULL AMOUNT of the party + the 15% gratuity! THEY joined in the argument as well, with 1 yelling "this is a good business! WE made over a MILLION dollars last year!" No, kid, your $8/hr probably netted you ten grand last year. Your miserable, penny-pinching boss made over $1 million last year. Unreal! Only in America can you have such $h!ttY customer service and still be considered a successful business owner. In most any other country, my people would no doubt have met such blatant disrespect by returning with an angry mob to beat some sense into the owner and burn the place to the ground! It's a good place to go when you are unable to get outside. The part that is significantly bothersome is the ripped furniture with visible stuffing coming out. Also, there is an area of the play structure that is ripped with visible foam. The carpet in front of the toddler play area is very stained. Please invest in improving your infrastructure. read more

Tonight was our first trip to the new location. My boys are 3 and 6 and they had a blast. The original play structure was transplanted, plus they added a padded basketball area with a variety of balls. There's a separate area for babies and toddlers, as well. There's a TON of seating, from bistro tables to couches and easy chairs to huge tables for parties. The place seemed very clean and the staff was friendly. When we arrived there was a guy in the play structure cleaning up a spill and even he seemed reasonably cheerful. They have a good menu, with everything from coffee and sandwiches to little baggies of cucumber slices and goldfish. The smaller snacks run $1, which could begin to add up if you make a meal of it, but is pretty reasonable for a snack. The check-in process makes a lot more sense at this location. Be warned that everyone will get a squirt of hand sanitizer on the way in. We had stopped going to the old location because there wasn't much for my older kid to do, but he had a really good time today. It's unavoidably loud inside, but they don't add to it with TVs or music. I think there are enough secluded seating options that an older sibling could find a spot to play cards or do homework if they're past the climb-around-like-a-monkey stage. Parents can sit in comfortable chairs or at a table, use their computers or mobile phones with free WiFi or just talk to a friend, while their kids run all their wiggles out and have a great time doing it on the amazing play structure that resembles a giant treehouse (hence the name). Great play place for kids, comfortable seating for adults, serves a variety of kid friendly foods (mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, etc) as well as a few things adults would like. Serving Zingermans coffee and Dexter Donuts and everything in between. The drive from Ann Arbor was worth it to see my nieces (2 1/2 and 1) have fun. Friendly staff who are constantly sweeping and cleaning. I have been a customer for 4 years and have always had a good experience until yesterday. I was trying to find out if the pizza that they offer to order thru a local place and deliver to the treehouse was safe for my peanut allergy daughter. The lady helping me at the treehouse was very rude. When I asked her name so I could call the owner she said "I don't have to give you my name" and "you can call the owner but she will stand behind me, she Always takes her employees sides and not the customers". I was so upset! I did speak with the owner and her employee was correct she does take the employees side. I just can't believe this. What happened to customer service? Obviously the employees are rude because the owner teaches them to be. Yes the food is good and the place is clean but if the employees are rude and treat the customers rudely then there is no reason to go back.I will not go back again and will not refer to friends!
