Fun escape room located in the mall. We booked the room in advance on their website. It is pricier than other escape rooms in the area and is more expensive per person if you have only 3 people. That being said, the theatrics, room size, props, and attentive staff make the price worth it. The employee running our room was incredible. They kept up with everything and provided assistance as needed. While in Charlotte, we chose to do the Wild West room. Some of the items in the room were previously broken, but at least the employee running the game was aware and warned us ahead of time. This removed some of the excitement involved with solving a clue but did not prevent us from enjoying the room. I also did not like how our group was separated in the beginning. Seemed pointless to set up the story in this way. The people separated in the beginning are at a disadvantage since they are not able to do anything for about 5-10 min and don't know all the items that were found before joining up with the group. If there was something to do in that separate area then it would make more sense. Additionally, there isn't a great place to set things. There are many props (which I like) but we didn't know where to place them when finished with them since they would block other clues. In other escape rooms, the moderator/host have informed us of a table or chair not part of the game where we can set personal items or used items. That being said, this escape room is a step up in theatrics from other rooms. The story was good and the clues were tricky without being impossible. Plus it's easy to reserve a room online, we started on time, and the mall bathrooms are close by. Overall we recommend this escape room to others! read more

So much fun and pretty tough! We did the Mystery Mansion and Darryl made booking very easy and was kind enough to call me back quickly so we could enjoy the game! We did have two smaller children and our toddler and of course I cannot recommend bringing a toddler but we had no other options for a sitter. However we did still enjoy it, the perfect amount of challenging and one of the props even made for a hilarious scare with our 9 year old. They are still talking about it. This was our first experience and of course the price is a little higher but it is a big city, and the attendants were very very attentive. Wild West review: very good story and some complex effects. You start handcuffed and find your way out. There are a ton of sound effects and it was just difficult enough to make you think but not struggle too much. The staff was super friendly and they actually watch you to help you if something is broken or if you are very close to getting something. A few of the contraptions were broke which made it a little weird but the staff were on top of it telling us what was wrong and letting us know the proper way. If we lived closer I would definitely go more and try their other rooms! read more

The front desk host ignored me the entire time while talking with another group who had a late party member. I want to send a huge thank you to Andy and everyone at Breakout Games. I reached out to several escape rooms when planning my proposal to my girlfriend. She loves puzzles and escape rooms, and I couldn't think of a better way to propose than incorporating it into an escape room. Andy worked with me extensively to plan and set everything up. He planned to customize the ending of the Mystery Mansion room so she would find the ring at the end. When we got there, the game master (I forget his name but he was amazing too), played his role perfectly. My family and I had a wonderful time at Breakout! We had an appointment for the Mystery Mansion but were over 15 minutes late. DON'T BE LATE! We were lucky enough that there was another game that was available a few minutes after we got there. So, we played Do not Disturb. We had a group that included 4 children from 6-12. It was not too scary for them. They were intrigued and exhilarated by the game. There were many puzzles along the way. It was challenging but Chase (our gamemaster) was encouraging (lots of positive feedback) and gave us hints along the way that really helped. In the end, we were so close to solving it but did not quite get there. We still had lots of fun. read more

What a fun experience!!! Booked the "Mystery Mansion" escape room online for around $30 a person. If you book tickets on a weekday Monday-Thursday you can utilize a 10% off coupon off your total purchase. This location was in the mall, but don't let that fool you, the rooms were large, well decorated, and heavily themed. When we arrived, we had to sign waivers and were greeted by a young woman who was going to be our "game master." Given this was my fiance' and my first time doing an escape room, we were briefed on how the game works and were given 60 minutes to complete the entire quest. There were many rooms, many puzzles, and it was SUPER CHALLENGING. But in a good way, as we both love mysteries and puzzles. We are able to ask for as many hints as necessary and were not penalized in any way for doing so. At the end of our time, we unfortunately were unable to complete the quest but the game master was kind enough to go through the ending with us. Thank the lord because if I were to be sent home without knowing the ending, it would have drove me crazy! All in all, this experience was amazing, so much fun and I can't wait to go to another and try out another theme. read more

We did the Wild West room which was fun and the host, Luke, was great. The room was very dark with some low light antique bulbs so it's difficult to see. For instance, at the beginning there are some handcuffs that you cannot see the key hole to unlock after you unlock the key which are up about 10-15mins, the host actually had to come into the room and had trouble unlocking as well. Also the low lighting makes it difficult to read several of the clues. At some point some bar lights will come on but still not much light to see or read clues by. Overall it's a good room and would be better if they just swapped some regular light bulbs for the antique style bulbs they currently use in the room. I get the motif they may be going for but at $50 a person it would be nice to be able to see the props and read the clues better. Also they will tell you not to use much force when opening some props but you have to yank on things firmly for them to work properly. Otherwise it's a lot of fun and I would go back and try another room, I hear lighting isn't an issue in the other rooms read more

Did not feel like other escape rooms that Ive done. The whole experience kept getting interrupted by the host telling us this and that about the room. There were also a few parts of the room that either didn't work the way they were supposed to. One puzzle opened up while we were in the room and we were told that the door was broken and not to go in there yet. Overall the room felt like a waste of money and it felt very cheap. Just to get to the rooms felt cheap. Being able to leave the room at anytime kind of defeats the purpose of an escape room or at least takes away from the feel of it. This escape room was a few dollars more than one about 20 mins away and it has way more put into it. Just did not have a good time and wont be going back. Had a pleasantly haunting experience with our mentor/guide, Vinyl. We were here to celebrate a birthday and obtained the best birthday gift of escaping with 5:07 left. Vinyl was mysteriously clever with her clues and we are very appreciative for all of her help. We recommend many others to experience Mystery Manor with Vinyl as their lead detective. 10/10 recommend and hope to return to complete more rooms. Decided to try out an escape room while we were visiting from Florida. We have been to a few so I know that they all are similar concepts but have different styles. The room we tried here was "Do not disturb" modeled after a motel room. I really enjoyed how interactive it was and all the theatrical elements. Also I like the fact that you can have unlimited clues. Most places limit you on the number you're allowed to ask. We typically love breakout room Charlotte and have been multiple times before but the room we did today, Undercover Alley, had a lot of issues. To get started we walk in and have a code written on a board, we use the code to unlock a lock and then find out the code shouldn't have been there and we didn't need that unlocked yet. Then we have a box that is opened, we spend 5 minutes trying to work with the opened box and they tell us we don't need that and come in and lock it. So at this point we have spent time working on multiple things we aren't suppose to have access to until the end. We continue playing and things are opening when they shouldn't so we get told to shut them for now then finally start making it to end and can't figure something out with piping on the wall. We ask for a hint and are told there are no hints for this part. So we spend at least 10 minutes working on this piping and find out there is suppose to be something attached to the end that isn't there. So they come in once again, have to fix it, and now we've wasted time on something that wasn't set up correctly. We were given no extra time even though we had multiple problems and staff had to come in twice to fix things that were not fixed before we started. How do they expect you to get out with half of the room isn't set correctly or not working?? read more

Our helper guy was super helpful, and there's unlimited clues without penalty, but we tried to limit ourselves to three! We did the hotel escape room, and it was fun and not too hard. Eian was awesome as he made the game enjoyable yet challenging with our few hints. There isn't a lot to do when you are vacationing and pregnant. My usual approach of "Let's hit the speakeasy" and "We'll do a brewery tour" does not work. But my bae and I met my bff Jeff in Charlotte for Memorial Day weekend and El Jefe suggested an escape room. "Ah, it looks like they have one of the rooms where they blindfold and handcuff you." He said this appreciatively, like he was an afficianado (which it turns out he is). "What?" "Yeah." "I'll try it, but not that one. I will go to jail for sure." I meant because of violence. By chance of fate, this room called "The Kidnapping" was the only one available at a reasonable time (pre 9pm, pregnant equivalent of 4am). I had major reservations and almost zero no expectations of enjoying this experience. But I totally did. So much that we booked a second escape room at the same place before brunch the next day! Rooms were challenging and I must say, surprisingly professional and well-designed. Our second room was "Museum Heist" which I would say we found a little more challenging than "The Kidnapping." Our Gamemaster Ian was a blast, and you should be sure to request him if you play DnD or are otherwise a nerd. He made tons of jokes and even laughed at mine. Which gets anyone an A+. A group of coworkers and myself completed the Runaway Train room as a team building event. It was amazing and so much fun. Once our entire group arrived at Breakout, we were greeted by our gamemaster and explained the rules (i.e. - if it's nailed to the wall...don't remove it). We were then led into our escape room..... The Runaway Train. This was my first escape room, so I wasn't sure what to expect. In this room you must find the key to unlock the conductor's area of the train in order to stop the train before it crashes. We needed a few clues along the way, but managed to escape the room with 3 minutes remaining. Without giving anything away, the secret compartments and effects in this room were great.
