My oldest did it. I am communicating her review here. She is 15. We were in the hardest room. It was called "the kidnapping". We got out of there with just 50 seconds left on the clock. All the puzzles were pretty difficult but not impossible. I was pretty excited and curious to go in. I had never done an escape room before, actually. I was with a group of about eight people. We were doing this as an after school field trip/adventure. They blindfolded us and had us Congo line in, that is to say each person put their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them. The person at the very front was one of the staff members. I don't want to spoil any of the puzzles. If you are stuck on something, do not be shy in asking for hints. If everybody in the agrees to it, they will give hints. We had to cooperate a lot, we all had to engage different parts of each puzzle. Again, not to spoil much, One guy would be the paper guy, another would be trying to pick a lock or find a key, another would be trying to figure out a different code. We had to divide up the labor in order to get it done. They leave clues everywhere, so you have to look everywhere. Towards the end as the countdown was running out of time, especially the last five minutes, they turn on creepy music. It was very stressful but a lot of fun. My inner gamer came out in those last five minutes. If any of you have played video games with the creepy music, you know what it's like. Afterwards we went out for ice cream because there's a cold stone like three minutes away. I would absolutely go back. I would make sure to use the bathroom before hand. I would also make sure to drink more because it's a little warm, and in those last five minutes I was sweating quite a bit. They'll let you bring a water bottle. Be prepared for some curveballs, they don't restrain themselves from some surprising stuff. I will tell you what they were, but it's spoilers. One of the guys on our team had already done escape room before, so he had an idea of what to look through. He hadn't done this one, but he done another one. I would never have thought of looking or trying some of the stuff that he tried, and that really helped us to be able to get through. I think they have room for like 10 or 12 people max, so 9 people was not bad. One of the guys in our group did not want to get any hints at all for the first half hour, and so we kept getting stuck on stuff and not being able to move forward. We made the deal that if we're not out in the first half hour, then he cooperates with hints. The whole time was One hour, so it took us almost that whole time to get out, and half of that was with the hints. Don't be shy about... I wanna tell you about it but it would be a spoiler. Two friends and I did the submarine breakout room with Ven as the moderator. We had a great time and Ven did a nice job giving us some hints when we were stuck and asked for her help. Due to some issues with the fuse box puzzles in the room, she even gave us an extra 5 minutes as compensation, then walked us thru the last step or two to completion since we were so close to completing our escape. She was very pleasant to work with, and we appreciate her flexibility. 9.5 out of 10. read more

Stuff in the room was broken. When we were introduced to the room by the game master we were told stuff was "finicky". Only one room, no second room. Pretty much all the puzzles were combo locks either alpha or numeric. Nice staff but unimpressive experience and $$ even with a weekday discount. Doubt I will go back. read more

We've done 2 rooms as a group here and had mixed experiences. The first visit was awesome and we barely escaped with seconds to go. It was challenging, thought provoking, frustrating, team oriented... a great package. The second room took less than 45 minutes and we didn't have much teamwork at all. Everyone seemed to be edging someone out to get at something, or else off on their own corner doing another thing. It was a less masterful creation than the first room. It was still a decent experience and we had a good night overall. The staff are fun and humorous. Our group had an overall good time at both visits and plan to go again to check out another room. If you want to give Breakout a try, go with friends who are team oriented and don't lose their cool! It can be a challenge. read more

Oh I have had so much fun here :) I have participated in "The Kidnapping" and "The Hostage". I will not give away spoilers! It is fun though that they handcuff and blindfold you at the beginning it differs from other breakout games I have done. Groups are great for this place. It was fun to play but almost all the electronic components were broken. The game master had to do things in the control room in order for our game to work. I don't really think it is worth the money you pay for it. Other than that it was pretty fun. read more

If you've never done a breakout game, this is a lot of fun with a group of people who like solving clues and working together to break out of a room within 1 hour. Come here yearly with my residency program for team building. always a great time! Staff is great, very welcoming and knowledgeable, and ran the rooms well. This time I did run-away train. And I highly recommend the room. Challenging, but doable, we were able to escape with 9 minutes left. Of all the breakout rooms I've been to (4 different places), this location has been my favorite. My group has done 2 escape rooms here. The first went really well everything was working smoothly and was a lot of fun. The most recent on which was Undercover Alley, most of the equipment did not work. Workers had to come in multiple times to fix things and we were told to just leave certain equipment because it did not work. I emailed the company when asked to leave a review and they not responded... I would give 2 and a half but we are rounding up and being nice. read more

My boyfriend and I were visiting from California and found Breakout on our short stay in Dayton. We have done many escape rooms and I have to say, this place is one of our top favorites! We did 3 rooms: Mystery Mansion, Kidnapping, and my personal best, Runaway Train. If time and money would allow, we would have done them all! The staff was very personable and beyond helpful, they even gave us recommendations on places to visit while in town. This was our third time here, and we chose the casino royal room. James, our game master, did a great job at explaining the rules and what to expect, and then he set us on our way. The puzzles were challenging and clues were spread out and some under lock and key. This was the first time I have not broken out, but it was still just as fun. We knew where we got caught up and wasted a good 20 min on one challenge. Finally after asking for a clue we were able to progress and the time ran out with only 2 steps to escape!!!! James was helpful when we asked but wasn't too obvious in his clues, which still made it fun. We are going to book another game tomorrow for redemption! read more

Beware before booking a room... They can and will change the times at the last minute. We have 3 couples that booked a room 4 days ago, we were supposed to go on Friday at 8pm and have time to go out to a nice dinner. Then the reason that I'm giving a 1 Star happened. They called us Friday morning and told us that they would have to switch our time to 6:40pm and were not willing to give a valid reason why. As a result we had to cancel our dinner reservations, because it was too late to make other plans. They played it really well, wait till the day of to notify the customers so that they can't ask for a refund, because it's likely too late for them to make other plans. read more

We were looking for a fun team building activity for my daughter and her volleyball team. This turned out to be an amazing experience. Cheyenne was perfect! She clearly explained the process to the girls and was incredible at tracking their progress as they figured things out. The hints that Cheyenne provided were on point and clear. I have honestly never had so much fun! If you love solving puzzles and finding clues this is the place for you. It is such a unique experience, you and your team have just one hour to escape the room by using logic and intuition! We did The Kidnapping and got out with just a minute to spare! It was such an intense, heart pounding experience. I'm going back next week to try another challenge. read more

We were originally scheduled for Hostage , but something came up and that game was not available. Ryan W stepped up and suggested some other games. As a spring break activity I took my children to Breakout of Dayton. (Ages 10, 12, and 14) Our game master was James and he was great. My children loved him and he entertained my son's endless questions. We did Do Not Disturb but did not escape. The children had so much fun we booked Mystery Mansion for later that day. Had an absolute blast! The workers are friendly, the place was very clean, and the game was challenging, yet exhilarating. I would recommend this to everyone, and I can't wait to go back. Biggest waste of $ 175.00 for 6 people. We were there on the weekend and the help was terrible. They over charged me and said they do not credit accounts but they will have the manager call me on Monday. No surprise here. No phone call from the manager. To top things off we didn't even get our group photo. It did not get sent to my email as promised and they did not know how to retrieve it from their system. The place is dated and dirty.
