This was a very bad experience. The answers to the puzzles and clues were on the white board to the room when we got in. Our host apparently forgot to erase and reset the room from the last game. My group of 5 friends completed the Island Escape room and we can't stop talking about it/looking forward to the next one! This was my first ever escape room and it was better than I expected. Our game master was Rachel and she really made the experience special for us. Rachel was so nice, informative, and enthusiastic and she was so excited for us when we escaped which made it even more fun for us. The room was a little bit small (it didn't bother our group) but I imagine it would feel a little crowded with 8 people so I would probably recommend a group size of 4-6 people. At the end they take your picture with your escape time and you can send it to yourself through email or text at no extra charge which is great! At $25 per person even with a 10% discount it is a bit pricey but understandable. My group agreed that we would love if there was some sort of reward scheme. The payment was a little bit inconvenient since I had to pay for all of the tickets together in order to get a slightly lower rate for having more people. It would be appreciated if there was an option to pay a non-refundable deposit when making a reservation and then everyone in the party could pay individually when they arrive to save the confusion of having to pay one person back. We were originally going to book at the Hyde Park location and I had called well in advance to ask about payment options for that particular time slot but I said I needed to confirm our group size before paying and would need to call back. But while trying to make the reservation later we were told by Steven that we couldn't since it had to be 3 hours in advance (at this point it was 2 hours and 50 minutes before the start time so we had just missed it by 10 minutes). We were not informed of the policy beforehand over the phone and it is still nowhere to be seen on the website, even in the FAQ section about booking a game in advance. Luckily the West Chester location still had available slots for later times. While this is an understandable policy for staffing reasons, it should be stated clearly on the website to avoid disappointment and frustration. I hope this constructive criticism helps. In the end we had an amazing time and Rachel made up for the troubles we had with booking at the Hyde Park location. We can't wait to come back and try a different room! read more

Great Fun for Family and Friends! We went with two adults, three 13 year olds and two 11 year olds. Everyone was able to participate and everyone had a blast. Island Escape was our Escape Room. I would say this is a very good entry-level room. Especially with kids. We were able to complete all the tasks and escape with over eight minutes to go. After a brief introduction by your proctor, and then a very short video about your room, you're a left to yourselves to break out. You are allowed 3 clues from your proctor as they watch and listen to your progress. Our proctor, Regan, was extremely helpful at the beginning and with the clues she was able to give us. On this night, it was the birthday of one of the kids. Breakout made sure to make it special. They had everybody sing Happy birthday and even gave her a special birthday treat at the end. Regan really made it fun for all of us. They cannot wait to go back. Hint: make your reservation while in advance, if at all possible. This is a popular place and rightfully so. Do yourself another favor, after you register, be sure to sign off on your waivers, online, before your event reservation. This saves time when you get there. Would I go back? Absolutely! No question. We had an absolute great time and the kids are all excited to go again. The staff could not have been more friendly or accommodating. Went for a new year eve couple game night. I liked that we could just do the 4 of us. The cost goes down the more people but it came to about 30 a person. We had a great time at this breakout room. My friends and I were all coming from different areas, and this location was at an in-between area for all of us. It's not super visible from the main road, but we had no issue finding it with gps. It's very small, and in a strip mall, but it was a great time. This breakout was the smallest of the two I have been too and was essentially one room and a closet. I think the company made good use of the space, and having to complete all the riddles in basically one room did add to the stress and excitement. It was about $25 per person and you had an hour to complete the challenge. I just recently completed Breakout's Hostage room, and therefore have successfully completed all of the company's current rooms! As always, I had a great time. While the place may seem unassuming from the outside, the rooms inside obviously have a lot of thought and heart put into them. Each room is very unique and throws me into a new and exciting environment. The clues and riddles are clever and I don't feel like any of them were ever too hard or too easy. The GameMasters were also always willing to help if I did feel stuck! Also, I think I was told that Breakout tries to put in new rooms quarterly? I definitely know they've updated a few times already, both at West Chester and Hyde Park, which is good for customers who want to keep coming back but have already played through all existing rooms. It's always going to be a struggle to compete with so many other escape rooms popping up around the city, but I think Breakout does a pretty good job. read more

We went to Breakout Games for my sisters birthday. There were a lot of room choices and we chose the kidnapping room. We had six people in our group and started the game handcuffed and blindfolded. The girl who was our "game master" was really great at explaining everything and helping us throughout the game. Because we had a birthday in the group we got 4 hints instead of 3 so be sure to let them know if it's yours or someone in your groups birthday! We played the Casino. It was a bland, average escape room. The props were good enough to get by & the puzzles were not clever or entertaining. The experience was less than average however because of a few things...1. We were given a discount code by a staff member that didn't work 2. We couldn't find the telephone number for the location so we called the other location 3. The first impression upon entering was a lobby FULL of loud children 4. There are specific things that happen with the sole purpose to trick you during the game 5. You need prior knowledge 6. The last safe locked us out for entering the correct answer too slowly so we just finished the game literally standing around watching the clock run out and the most annoying, unprofessional thing that happened: A RANDOM GUEST WALKED IN ON OUR GAME LOOKING FOR THE BATHROOM!!! Great experience. Did the Hijack game. Took awhile to get past the first obstacle but once we did the game started to go quicker. Some time lost not knowing for sure what the next goal was (trying to conserve hints). One or two clues were difficult to get to work correctly at first but all made sense once it was done. I had a good time at the Breakout Games - West Chester two months ago. I wanted to leave a review because while it was a lot of fun, my experience was that the exercise left something to be desired. The Kidnapping/Hostage room seemed not terribly challenging at all, and we escaped at minute 43. There were only 5 of us, too. We were told that we would have to solve the mystery of the plan of a plane hijacking, but I felt we didn't learn anything and only went from code to code. When we got the last code, we almost couldn't believe it was for the door because there still seemed to be so much we didn't know or understand about the plot. This was my first time, so perhaps I had too high of expectations. The last thing I wanted to comment on was that at $26.00, an activity that lasted less than 45 minutes felt kind of like a rip-off. I was almost expecting, which is on me, that their business model includes a coupon for another visit if you escaped in time, and in such record time at that. Nope, just a sticker. If I go back, I want to ask for a more challenging room and will be on the lookout for a groupon or some such discount. read more

If you enjoy solving problems, this is a great way to do so with your friends, family, and co-workers! I took my staff and used all three rooms. My staff had a great time working together to solve the riddles in order to "breakout" of the room. Two of our groups accomplished the missions with only minutes to spare. Don't worry-- if you need a hint the friendly and fun staff are there to give you a clue. This is a must-do if you're interested in building up your team. It is also a great way to observe who are the most competitive, who are the ones who have good problem solving skills, and who work together the best. I'm definitely bringing my family! read more

We went to the Cincinnati escape room (located downtown at the banks) and the rooms were AMAZING. We decided to try this company out and the room was....blah. The walls looked like they needed a repaint and there was just no real detail. Just a bunch of locks. We had a decent time, don't get me wrong. But if you're looking for something that'll blow you away, I definitely recommend the escape room downtown! read more

We recently went as a group for a friends. It was fun to be with a large group, though we need all the extra minds, we got out with 2 minutes to spare! The clues were hard and challenging! One of the locks to a drawer wasn't locked back up before we went in there so it threw us off at one point and one prop didn't drop down like it should have, but overall we had a great time! We did the Kidnapping Room and we had a blast! It was definitely fun and immersive. The puzzles were challenging and fun! The staff were very nice! My one and only complaint is that if you don't get the safe combinations right after 3 tries it locks you out completely! I definitely think give a penalty but maybe not lock you out so you can't even attempt to finish the game. We did get out with a little over 6 minutes to spare!
