I started at Breathe at the Cap Hill by doing two of their free community pilates classes (they do this for new instructors). It was such a challenge but the instructors give great guidance, before, during and after the classes. 10/10 experience. I have since purchased a 30 class pass and am going 2-3 times a week. I love having access to different classes, timing, and instructors. The studio feels clean and inviting and every instructor brings a different energy so there really is something for everyone! I especially love Mindy and Mike on weekend mornings ;) read more

This was my first hot pilates class. My friend guess passed me in, and I'm definitely coming back for the 10 class trial! We took the 4:30 pm class with Jenny (focusing on glutes and core), and she was a helpful instructor. She is very quick to help if you're struggling (some of the poses/sets are pretty tough, trust me). Also, the woman (Stephanie) who assisted me with the guess pass and other questions at the front desk was nice and attentive too. She joined the 4:30 class as well. Today's hot pilates was essentially multiple sets of various different mini exercises, such as planking, lunges, hip thrusts, etc. It's a real workout, but it feels amazing afterwards. I was struggling a little bit toward the end, although I really needed this workout. I felt awake and energized after the class. I can't wait to come back for more classes!! read more

If you think yoga is for girls / wusses, THINK AGAIN. Breathe Hot Yoga specializes in heated asana and a heated vinyasa blend class that they call "Cali Yoga." Classes are either 90 or 60 minute practices and will challenge you from start to finish. The space is gorgeous, bright, and open, which matches the mantra and energy of the studio perfectly. Being primarily a runner, I try to hone in on my practice when I remember, but admittedly I've always just gone with rather mellow heated vinyasa flows. I snatched a groupon for breathe that was an absolute steal, and since I basically live within a block from the studio, I figured even if I didn't like it that much, it was worth a shot, given the proximity to my house. Luckily for me, I ended up loving the class. I took a 90 minute hot asana flow that literally pushed me to my limit and had me stretching and balancing in ways I didn't even think I was capable of! My instructor Chris, was firm and helpful, but not smothering. If you're used to a heavy hands-on approach, you won't necessarily find that here. However, if you're open and honest about your capabilities, the instructor will be mindful of you during practice and come around to help you here and there. Personally, I don't mind watching other classmates and re-adjusting on my own, but if you like more hand-holding, you may have to request it before class. Also important to note here is that there is NO music during your flow. Some people may be put off by this, but I find it much easier to clear my mind and focus in on my flow with diamond precision. Yes, it does make things a bit more intense, but the instructor isn't intimidating or crazy hardcore about anything, and even though you'll get pushed to your maximum, you're still encouraged to listen to your body and do what you can without over-stepping your capabilities. A few things to note: the studio is locked most of the time and is only open for about 30 minutes before a scheduled class. The instructor also locks the studio doors once practice begins, to make sure your swag is safe (you can store things in the shower/locker area and be confident that it'll be safe). Also, there is only one heated room and it DOES have windows that face Madison street. Being that there's a bus station right in front of the windows, you may or may not make eye contact with meandering pedestrians along the street. If you're shy, you may want to try to position yourself in a less visible area, but honestly, if you're focused on your practice, the last thing you should be worried about is being looked at by strangers! (plus, being that I myself walk around here all the time, I think all of the people in the studio always look so badass!). No matter what level of fitness you are, or if you're a seasoned pro vs. a novice, Breathe is a great place to get your feet wet (sweaty?) if you're curious about hot asana! I'm thrilled that they're my new neighbours and so lucky to have them right down the block. read more

I stopped going to this place a few months back. Some of the instructors here are pretty good, however, certain individuals are bringing this place down. Nicole Z makes you feel very unwelcome. I started to avoid coming here if I saw she was teaching but as is common with such folk she has no life and tends to linger around the studio even when she is not on the schedule. This made avoiding her hard. She often would be found when Sunny was teaching. Sunny was nice at first but soon whenever Nicole was around started to have an attitude (also there is one studio and Sunny always has her sneakers on while teaching the class - the students are required to keep their shoes off so this makes it feel extra yucky). It seems like this is another studio at the discretion of employees with an absentee owner. As mentioned previously a couple of the other instructors are really good and I was glad I got an opportunity to take their classes. As others have mentioned it is a really small, hot yoga studio with no privacy in the shower rooms (they are small and the doors are kept open). There is typically a half hour space between classes despite this the studio floor is at times really dirty. I really wanted to like this studio and despite all the attitude tried to give them a shot, however, based on the points above I could not continue. To me this was supposed to be my place to relax and get some relief from day to day stress, but the terrible attitude of a couple of bad apples ruined the whole experience and made attending this studio an unpleasant experience. Their rates are really high and there is very little to no basis for them to be charging so much. read more

I have a yearly membership with Breathe and it has really transformed my body. I'm in the best shape of my life. In the past, I've tried personal trainers, hot yoga, pilates, crossfit, even barre. I tried many of these things for a year or so, but nothing seemed to stick until now. What was the difference for me? I'd say it's the studio philosophy, the people, and the studio locations. Hot Pilates classes are INTENSE af. You can modify the exercises to be even more difficult if you choose. It's a real challenge, but totally worth it. The people are all absolutely wonderful. Friendly and just nice. If you have an injury and just want to be super careful with your body, I recommend taking classes with Susannah. She's incredibly patient and knowledgeable. If you want to have a shit-ton of fun, take classes from Elizabeth. read more

I've taken two hot Pilates classes so far with Lia and she's a great instructor! She's very enthusiastic and passionate about what she's doing and gets the class pumped and energized. As for the class itself, it's an amazing workout. I enjoy high intensity workouts that make you sweat -- it really feels like I'm doing work and this class does just that! It's definitely intense and your body completely aches the day after, moreso than when I weight train. It's the perfect class for getting toned should you go frequently. Remember to have a filled bottle of water with you to prevent from becoming dehydrated. read more

Not sure I had a qualified instructor..... I paid for two months and never went back. Yesterday I ran into someone that was in my class and she never went back, guess I was not the only one who didn't like it. Two new people never went back. Hmmmm This made me think about customer service. When a new person joins and never returns maybe a business should contact them to find out why. read more

This place is on my bus ride home, so yeah, why not Breathe Hot Yoga? The cleaner smell had me thrown off a bit once I sat down to fill out the registration, but my friend was already coming so I waited it out. Down to earth receptionist and eager to please instructor. Odd mix of yoga types: Cali, asana. Not bikram or vinyasa. Cali has more wrist intensive work, but the helpful instructor gave me alternative poses with similar core focus to protect my weak wrist. I still allow the intensity of the pose, yet I keep unnecessary straining away. Movement was with out as much explanation as I am used to from Yoga to the People. Also it doesn't seem as hot, but I have yet to take a thermometer with me. The dreaded window view... There is 75% of the space to be out of sight. So, no worries. One thing that really bothered me at first was the changing room with an open door and a plastic curtain where the naked people change for showers. I don't claim to be the most outgoing person, but I definitely expect a closed door when changing. I ended up finding a bathroom to change in. I am probably just biased because I loved Bikram, but haven't found anything nearby here. I will keep going, unless I find something else. read more

I really love this place, for the following reasons: Instructors are down to Earth, unpretentious, knowledgeable and solicit feedback, interaction. I have never felt rushed out of the studio. Classes are HARD, and therefore amazing. I've tried most of their hot yoga classes, looking forward to trying out their hot Pilates classes. They have showers and vinyl type flooring. When there's carpet, I have to say it is stinky beyond belief. The fact that Breathe has vinyl type flooring is such a relief. They also have a lot of class options that work for my rotating schedule. read more

I have to give a mention to this place, as it's one of the best hot yoga experiences I've had, and I've been to all the hot yoga studios in Seattle (literally). Here's why it's great: 1) The room is NOT 105 degrees, so you can actually focus on your practice, instead of trying to stay conscious. Trust me, you'll still leave feeling like you went swimming. 2) The room isn't packed to the brim with people. When I arrived at 5:35 for the 5:45 class, I didn't have to rush in there to claim my spot, fighting for literal inches on the floor. 3) The studio is perfect. There are windows up on the street, so natural light comes in, instead of feeling like you're in a basement or dungeon. 3) The instructor (Eric?) is awesome. He doesn't just stand in one part of the room, he walks around and does poses everywhere, so there is no real "front" of the room. 4) This may sound like a simple thing, but he tells you when to breathe! Most instructors remind you, "Breaaaathe," but Eric actually says, "Inhale, exhale," helping people like me who have never mastered the art of continual steady breathing in yoga. 5) The vinyasa is awesome. Time just flew, and I never once thought, "Oh god, is it over yet?" 6) Groupon has an awesome deal right now - $68 for 20 classes! It was such a smooth process and I like the studio so much, I almost signed up for the unlimited year right then and there. All in all, this beats every hot yoga studio I've been to in Seattle, so if you're on the fence, DON'T BE! read more

I have been going to the SLU location for awhile, and I love the convenience of another location. I commute from down south and when I am running late that 5:45 class is much easier to make! I love the location as I am still able to find parking and there are stores to visit after wards for running errands. The space inside is much smaller than SLU and the window is open to outside. The SLU location is more shaded and you don't feel on display. I would love the new place to be shaded too. The teachers are always welcoming and I love the intro package for my friends. read more

I bought a groupon for unlimited yoga at Breathe for a month. I went three times. I have been practicing yoga for about 8 years in many different traditions (Hatha, Vinyasa, Kundalini). I was having some knee pain after starting training for a 5k. A friend of mine with a knee injury had an awesome experience with Bikram yoga (increasing her flexibility, strengthening surrounding muscles) so I decided to give Breathe a shot. I do appreciate the zone heating. One end of the room is around 85, the other end is around 105, and the space in between is down the middle. My first class I was really shaky because of the heat and how difficult some of the poses were, and the instructor pointed it out to the whole class. "ooh, look! some of us are shaky today, but that's ok!" Thanks. I didn't need that pointed out to everyone. I don't know if her intention was to be encouraging, but it didn't help. After my first class I was super sore, but was told to come to another class within 24 hours with the logic that the heat would loosen me up. I ended up with *massive* muscle spasms in my legs that took about four days to loosen up. I went back after those four days for the third time, and the instructor tried to shame me by pointing out that I took the weekend off, so that's why I was struggling. The instructor was also pushing me to do things I couldn't do due to past injuries and surgeries. I was never asked if I had any prior injuries or health issues, which is SUPER IRRESPONSIBLE. The instructor tried to bully me into "pushing to the your limits" (direct quote) without understanding my situation. I heard other people try to talk to her about injuries or difficulties they were having two separate times, and she was a broken record, just insisting that they keep coming back "for at least 10 classes" rather than suggesting modifications. Instead of privately adjusting people, she would also call people out from across the room: "Hey David! Turn your arm to your left" "Hey Cindy! put your ankle on the floor". The locker room is also TINY and has an awkward curtain that flutters when you open the door, allowing the hall way to see you naked. In short, not inclusive to people of different body types and limitations. I felt bad and discouraged whenever I left. read more

I was visiting Seattle on vacation & decided to keep up with my yoga practice. Never in my life have a been to a hot yoga studio that wasn't HOT. I visited the Southlake studio. I got a smart ass condescending remark from the instructor that your body should generate its own heat. Why advertise it as a hot yoga studio then? I did not appreciate being micromanaged during the entire class. I cannot consciously give this studio positive feedback. It was a very negative experience for my friend & I visiting the studio. I had high expectations for Seattle yoga. :( read more

Some of the instructors are really good and I seek out their classes. Ryan, Karlene and Andrea for example. A couple of them, I actually avoid because they dont seem very inspired or knowledgable compared to the others. They had one new one recently - who may be gone now - who seemed straight out of a 24hr fitness. As a whole it just doesnt compare to the yoga at Seattle Bouldering Project or Live Love Flow. I feel like you really have be solid to do well in this area with so many good studios around. The facility is always clean and people are friendly. The hot Pilates is more like a mix between mat pilates and a HIT class - its a great workout depending on instructors. Its not anything close to real pilates but with the right teacher a good workout. Also the class schedule is pretty limited. Likely because they cut classes that are not always full vs maybe looking at the class itself or the instructor as the issue. read more

I have been with Breathe since their first location on South Lake Union and came back from a 1 1/2 year hiatus when the Capitol Hill location opened up since it is much closer to my home. I can not say enough wonderful, awesome things about Breathe. I come back primarily because of the co-owner/director, Amber. Even since the days back at SLU, Amber was always welcoming and she even remembered/recognized me after all the time I had not come to practice. Yes, the Capitol Hill studio is considerabley smaller than the SLU studio but I have not had an issue with overcrowding. I love that Breathe, even prior to opening the Capitol Hill location, began other classes than the 90 minute Hatha classes. There seems to be more availability now of 60 minute Hatha classes and the Cali yoga classes which is great! Some of the same great instructors such as Amber and Gina are still here and some other really great new ones! If you're new to hot yoga, I tell all my friends to try this before Bikram because, to me, Bikram is a bit more intense because of temperature of the room whereas at Breathe, there are varying temperatures depending on your experience level. You'll be so glad you came! Such a great environment and I love Amber! read more

I was visiting Seattle for a few days and I got the week unlimited pass. I went to four classes (one Cali and three Asana) and I was incredibly impressed by all the instructors. They all seemed committed to making sure students understood poses, got a good workout and felt welcome. The studio was beautiful and incredibly clean and the temperature was perfect-- I worked up a great sweat. We have some excellent yoga studios in Louisville, but I was sad to leave this place! read more

Upsides: -Very sanitary place for a hot yoga experience. You would think this would be obvious, but really it isn't. They keep their facility clean and bacteria free so you can focus on the yoga, and not on the stink. -Probably the most diverse studio I've checked out so far in Seattle. Women, men, multiple ethnicities. It's really cool to see this in a yoga studio. -They offer both 60 and 90 minute hot classes, which is nice for the sake of adjusting your practice to your energy level. -If you're used to Bikram, there is a different, and more body friendly approach at Breathe. The bow to the warriors series, for instance, is a great variation on the traditional eye popping half moon X2 series. -Front desk staff is friendly and inviting. Downsides: -They don't use music accompaniment, even in the Cali Yoga class. I would have to say, music is a definitive part of any vinyasa class in the California inspired style. I would encourage them to add it. -The Cali Yoga class is HIGHLY repetitive and non imaginative. -The instructors skill level varies a lot. This is true of most studios. It's less a factor in hot yoga because the sequencing is almost fixed. read more

The good: the studio is a super nice space. I'm a bikram junkie so I like it hot, but I realize others are not. The zoned radiant heating is good for that. Cali yoga was a little upper-body focused for me, but Travis is clearly an excellent and very experienced teacher and I'd wholeheartedly endorse his class - especially for dudes. I have also been attending the Asana class with John and I think he gives us a nice workout in 60 minutes. The schedule in general is pretty good for the downtown worker bee, with a selection of evening classes between the Capitol Hill and SLU locations. The not-so-good: A minor annoyance, but the women's changing room at the cap hill location is really awkward. Opening the door causes this flimsy curtain to fly everywhere and show your naked butt behind it to whoever is walking by. While I personally am just annoyed, a more shy person might be mortified. A more major annoyance I had was another instructor. She veered off track a lot during class, talking about personal anecdotes and philosophy, including once when she seemed to lose track of time in the middle of a pose that that is meant to be quick/strenuous. After that bit of over-exertion she let everyone's heart rate drop way TOO much with an extended demo/philosophy discussion in the middle of the standing series. The class just seemed to be more about her than about the students or the practice. I guess I'd say this studio could be 4-star in my book, if the instruction quality were more uniformly good. read more

I like this place. I may be a tad biased because it is about three block from my house, but the studio is modern and clean, and the instructors I've taken classes from are solid (though as others have mentioned, not super hands on in terms of correcting your posture). This studio does not offer Bikram so it isn't as hot and therefore doesn't seem as challenging as classes I have taken at SweatBox, but I actually like this as I am more likely to go to Breathe multiple times per week. read more

I love the Yoga Asana 60 and 90 classes. They're similar to Bikram but have a few different poses and the teachers do not follow a script. I am a huge fan of the great alignment instructions from the well-trained teachers. My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is only some teachers make the room hot enough, I like it Bikram hot. It is a temperature zone room, and even it the hottest corner it's often only in the 90s. Taryn heats it up nice. read more

I am new hot yoga lover, I purchased the 2 month unlimited for new members. So thankful I did, I am in love! I love the early classes so I go at 6:30 am, I just wish they had a early Friday class as well! I enjoy the Yoga Asana 60 or 90 class. There are cool zones where the heaters aren't hovering over which is really nice if your just starting out like me. I walk to the studio but there is a few parking spots in the garage that are labeled breathe yoga. It's my new favorite addiction!! Please get a Friday morning class;)! read more

Like N H. I also paid for two months here, came to two classes and never returned. I had two different teachers, both seemed pretty inexperienced and scattered...we're talking forgetting to do both sides for a pose numerous times, amongst other things. The heating mechanisms are super funky and literally burn your face when you look up toward the ceiling if you happen to be directly under one. As mentioned in other reviews, funky and not very private changing area. Poor customer service when I reached out to the studio and asked to be refunded the difference between a shorter intro package they offered and the two month package I paid for as it was "not the right fit" for me. Management's response was, basically, "too bad". I've done hot yoga for years and at a lot of different studios and this is the first time I've been left with such a sour taste in my mouth. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this yoga studio to anyone new to yoga -- and possibly not to experienced people, either. Now, I have only had one instructor there, whose name I will withhold as a courtesy, so I am willing to change my recommendation if other instructors are better in the future. I have a Groupon, so I'll continue to attend classes despite my better judgment. The 2-star rating (instead of 1) is for the welcoming staff and a generally tranquil and clean environment. I started doing hot yoga at YTTP about 9 months ago. I am not an expert, but I do know a decent amount about yoga, posture, and anatomy/physiology. I understand that Breathe is not attempting to be a HOT class; however, many of the poses are identical. The instructor I had was truly the worst yoga instructor of any kind that I've ever had. The dialogue was paced awkwardly and was very vague in direction, the instructor stayed mainly in the front of the room, and she seemed uncomfortable rather than knowledgeable and confident. The other people in my class were absolutely atrocious, and I have never seen people do yoga with such awful form. Several people seemed to be new and really lost in class. The instructor did absolutely nothing to correct or help people directly or through her dialogue - not even when people were facing the wrong direction or doing a completely wrong pose! I understand people may differ in how "hands on" they want instruction to be, but I honestly feel that people's health is at risk here. I also like the group aspect of yoga, and this was more like a free for all with people risking muscle strain and spinal injury. I also think the room is not sufficiently heated to allow the type of deep and intense stretching that can happen with much more ease in a hotter room. If we are going to do the same poses as a HOT class, the practice should be altered to allow for slower entry into poses and much more specific instruction on posture. This was amateur hour, at best. I can't imagine anyone could learn much about yoga here, at least not from this particular instructor. I'd say save your money and try elsewhere if you're looking to do hot yoga for the first time. read more

I have been going to Breathe Hot Yoga in South Lake Union ever since they opened several years ago. I love that I can choose to practice in the zone that is less hot. It helps me focus on my yoga practice instead of trying to get through an oppressively hot Bikram class. My favorite are the 90 minute Asana classes. I can take my time and do them slowly and with intention. I have been so pleased with co/owner and director Amber who has helped me build confidence in my yoga practice and so have all of her teachers. I am a 70 year old woman with some physical challenges and I have had nothing but positive experiences with any of the teachers at Breathe. Everyone has been welcoming, helpful and thoughtful. Even though I am often the oldest and maybe least experienced student there, no one has ever made me feel self conscious about my abilities. I am delighted that there are now two other studios. I have tried them all and the availability of class times and locations has made it possible for me to accommodate my busy schedule. I also have appreciated that Amber, the director has extended my year's subscription by as much as three months when I could not do yoga because of an injury. I really love this place. I have a foot injury, and the instructors are very quick to not only remember this, but help me modify the poses so that I get the maximum benefit without hurting myself.
