First things first--I don't think I had a clue as to what pilates actually is until my first visit…read moreto Sara at Reforming Every Body. I thought I did. But, no...no clue at all. First of all? It's not all matwork. Meaning, I had been under the impression that pilates was much like yoga--a workout/stretch based exercise done on a yoga matt. I had the vague impression that there was more calisthenics involved but that basically, it was much like yoga. So, when Sara leads me up to their loft inside A-Train Fitness and directs me to their reformer (a spring resistance based apparatus with sliding platform unlike any other workout machine/apparatus I'd ever encountered), I was surprised. The reformer is created to give users a precise workout, targeting specific muscle groups to promote core strength, flexibility, and good alignment--all while protecting your back. It's amazing the number of exercises one can do on this simple apparatus. You may do one exercise laying on your back working your legs and abs--and then one minor adjustment and you're propped on a box on your tummy engaging the deep muscles of your core while working your triceps--and then the box is removed and your standing on the thing working stabilizing muscles and your inner thigh muscles. It's challenging and has left me with sore muscles in my core and legs that few workouts ever even activate. During my workouts, I've also used the Cadillac (a large table like apparatus that is equipped with arm and leg springs) as well as their pilates chair. All of my workouts have been done under the careful tutelage of Sara John who is certified in pilates apparatus as well as matwork pilates. She is always so helpful with my form and it's so amazing to me how one minor adjustment in my form can suddenly bring the desired muscle work into sharp focus. Their space is intimate but they keep their classes small (the largest class is capped at 7 participants) as well as doing private sessions. Four private sessions are required in order to participate in the group classes. The private sessions are a bit on the spendy side--but now having done them, I can see the value of the initial investment. From there, you can either continue on with private lessons, opt for semi-private (where you can workout with 1 or 2 friends), or do their group classes (with 5-7 participants). Their group classes are much smaller than other places (which is nice!) but aren't priced any higher (which is also nice!). I'm so glad to have begun my journey in pilates. I tend to be someone who likes to participate in varying workout types, which I will likely continue to do--but pilates at Reforming Every Body is one I will come back to again and again. Get to it!

I cannot say enough kind things about each of the instructors. They were attentive and educated, and worked with me throughout my journey. The instructors were able to provide modifications as needed, and helped me adapt my workouts as I worked to regain my strength and mobility. You can tell they truly care about each of the members that walk into their studio and are committed to providing everyone an individualized experience, even in a group class setting. I am relocating out of town, and will miss this studio terribly. I cannot recommend CP-Amity enough to anyone looking to have a great workout alongside a sense of community and belonging.

It is a kettlebell gym (as you can tell by the name) and I love them as a training tool. Most of the good effects of barbells with little of the risk, and some specific properties that make them fun, effective, exciting and interesting. Jim is a conscientious and intelligent trainer who will make sure you are training properly and safely. In addition the classes are very small so it is like getting personal training for a fraction of the price. I believe Jim also offers Personal Training if you want personalized instruction. The location is convenient near the intersection of 44 and 55 right off of downtown Eagle. Plenty of parking. Space is clean, well organized and has all of the equipment you need to lose weight, gain muscle, improve athletic performance, look good naked, etc. The people are freindly and it is a non-intimidating enviroment that I pleased to be a member of.

Rachel is a badass powerlifter and kind human so she makes twice weekly workouts, dare I say, enjoyable! I love the flexibility that Volition gives to work with a trainer but also to workout independently. Rachel's programming for these independent days is clear and makes it easy stick to my goals. If I am being honest - I struggle finding the motivation to lift weights. I'll go on a run, go on a…read morehike, or do a workout class - but putting in headphones and lifting weights is not my jam. All that to say, I am super duper thankful for places like ClarityFit that create a fun and encouraging environment that makes lifting weights fun! My good friend (who just got married) is a faithful member of this gym, so her coach (Chris) offered to host a private class for the wedding party. Myself, three other bridesmaids, and the bride all came here early on a Sunday morning and got a good sweat in before the big day. Chris started us off with 5 minutes of stretching, followed by a warm up that got our heart rates up, and then led us into a workout rotation that we went through three times. Most of the exercises we did I was familiar with, but there were a few that intimidated me (ahem, power snatches). Chris had us try out each station a few times before starting the clock in order to ensure we had good form. After starting the clock he would come over and kindly correct us if our form was off. At the end of the class I could definitely feel that I had just challenged myself, but didn't feel like I overdid it. I was sore for the next few days, but not in an unreasonable way! Aside from a quality workout and awesome coaching, this gym has the coolest vibe. It's in a garage-type space off Fairview. The doors were open while we worked out, letting in some nice natural light and fresh morning air. The equipment and workout space is also up-to-date and kept nice and tidy. They also have a great stereo system in here and blare music while the class is going - nothing like a little Kanye to motivate you through your final round of box jumps!
