I'm a 75 year old with a long history of exercise and know unequivocally Pure Barre Boise is the absolute best I can do for my body and entire well being. I am strong, flexible and toned. Recently I had two major incidents which validated the benefits of Pure Barre: Falls at my age are deadly: I recently had a hard fall on concrete landed on my arm, hip and knees. I have huge bruises yet I didn't break or fracture bones. Thanks to strong muscles and flexibility which I gained from Pure Barre! Improved bone density: I had a bone-density test three years ago. I think Nicole D aptly summed up Pure Barre as a combination of yoga, pilates, ballet, and strength training. It is truly one of the most comprehensive workouts I've ever engaged in. What can you expect? You enter the lobby, take off your shoes (leaving your socks on), and head into the workout studio. They have sticky socks for purchase ($12), but you can also borrow a pair (clean!) for your first workout. The studio is an empty room, flanked by a ballet barre and mirrors. The instructor will have whatever workout tools/props you'll need sitting in front and so you simply head to the racks in the front corner and get the same. The workout begins with a warm up that is done in the center of the room (not at the ballet barre) and goes quickly, one move flowing into the next. Though it moves quickly, it doesn't require crazy dance like coordination (thankfully) and so, while my body does on occasion get a little befuddled (it happens), even beginners can mostly keep up. The workout then fluctuates between the ballet barre and the middle of the room--depending on the exercise--for arm sculpting, legwork, seat work, core, and cool down stretches. And, while the workout can be summed up in a sentence, it feels more like a drawn out doctoral dissertation for your body (in a good way!). I was sore in muscles I clearly hadn't worked in a very long time. This is good. If I'm going to spend 55 minutes doing a thing--I want to feel like I've accomplished something. Beyond the amazing workout, the community that participates in Pure Barre here in Boise are amazingly welcoming and encouraging. I entered as a complete out-of-shape beginner and was never made to feel intimidated or anything but welcomed. One woman asked as I began to stretch in preparation of my first work out, if this was my first time. When I replied in the affirmative, she immediately welcomed me and said, "You'll love it! And, hey--you've already done the hardest part by walking through the front door!" Another woman as I struggled mid-workout whispered, "If this feels hard as hell...that's totally normal. Don't worry..." Seriously? How amazing are these people!! The workout is for all ability levels as there are adjustments that can be made for any move you're unable to do. As the instructor told me on the phone--No worries, if you can hold onto a ballet barre, you can do pure barre! The prices are more expensive than your typical gym, but the workout is more focused and comprehensive than I have ever received at a gym. You truly are paying for expertise. Ie: We were doing seat work and by my estimation, I was in the position I needed to be in. The instructor came over, made one minor adjustment to my position and--Ka pow! Pure barre is now the mcdonalds of boutique fitness but this studio falls not short of a perfect model. Friendly front desk, cute interior and a class taught by an experienced instructor. I appreciate that i saw her planning out her class on a notebook prior to start time and she also took the time to introduce herself. I also received a personalized text after visiting the studio. Ive taken 1000s of group fitness classes and this was an extremely professional and likable experience. Would go back next time I'm visiting. read more

Pure Barre is a workout like nothing you can get in the Treasure Valley. After my first class I was completely hooked -- Pure Barre is a combination of yoga, pilates, ballet and strength training all in one. That sounds really confusing but there really is no other way to explain it. The technique is very specific and unique and takes a while to figure out and it is SO much harder than it looks but that is what makes it effective! The classes are 55 minutes in length taught by instructors who are extremely fit and knowledgeable but not intimidating. They go out of their way to make sure you are getting the best workout possible by doing small corrections throughout the class without making you feel like you are doing everything wrong. This workout will change your body -- it helped me get over a plateau that I have been at for over 2 years. The shape of your body changes with each class. I really was able to see a difference in 10 classes as the program claims. The biggest change I have seen with this class is in the size of my waist; it really does whittle down your waist and make you have better posture and poise. For all of the benefits, the one downside is the cost -- it is much more than a gym membership but probably much less than a personal trainer and you will gain so much more from this. You will really begin to see your body as an investment and the extra money is totally worth it. Great atmosphere, great staff, great workout. This workout may seem easy to an outsider but it is a full body workout that will leave you sore and most definitely wanting more the next day. Within my first month I noticed my body changing and myself getting stronger. I love seeing the transformation in my body as well as challenging myself in class. On top of the great workout, the staff are very helpful, fit and knowledgeable about pure barre. Always willing to explain certain moves and techniques these talented women exceed expectations when it comes to group workout classes. I am a Pure Barre fanatic and was ecstatic when I found out I could continue Pure Barre classes when I went to Boise for Thanksgiving. They are located at the corner of Park and Broadway. If you're in the parking lot, walk between the buildings like you're about to use the crosswalk on Park. You'll see the Pure Barre studio hiding behind the other building. The instructors at the Boise location are fantastic. I had 3 instructors over five days: Lauren, Megan and Abby. All three are hands on with corrections to positions, helping you "lengthen and strengthen" your body and are excellent at reminding you of correct positions so you really target the working muscles. They are great at getting clients to really work their muscles to fatigue- you will feel it during and well after the workout. For new clients, you are going to hear a lot of commands to tuck your hips. That's rolling your tailbone down and pulling your lower abs in. Make sure to introduce yourself to your instructor, she'll help you set up with weights and bands, and let her know of any previous injuries. This will cue her to offer up modifications to moves that will accommodate your body's needs and still challenge you. If you find a move isn't particularly challenging you, flag the instructor down and she'll help you get more out of the work. The instructor roams around the room adjusting clients' positions. She will be more than happy to give you modifications that make the position more challenging. read more

I absolutely love Pure Barre. I attend classes in both the Boise and Eagle studios. All of the instructors are warm, encouraging and helpful. They truly seem to care about your experience and don't just go through the motions. I have seen a huge improvement in muscle tone and strength. Especially in my legs. The thigh section just never gets easier, and I just took my 100th class. The hour long class is broken in to sections but the exercises are constantly changing. This helps keep things fresh and new and also I am sure is a good way to keep your muscles guessing. There is a wide variety of ages and body types, and the atmosphere is not intimidating at all. The fun, upbeat music and constant encouragement from the instructor helps to get you through the workout. read more

signed up for my first-ever barre class. I laughed at the review that said "this workout may seem easy to an outsider" because no way in hell is barre easy. I workout 5 days a week and this kicked my ass because it isolates a lot of smaller muscles that a swim or a run just don't hit. I couldn't keep up and had to take breaks. Even though the title says "pure" it was not what I expected and now that I've tried another barre class I see that pure barre isn't traditional barre. There's a "bar" but there was no ballet-like moves in the class I took, and as I understand it, that's where this fitness style stems from. I was disappointed the teacher didn't do the class with us. She did 1 or 2 reps to show us how, then popped up and walked around, fine tuning positions in between barking orders. And she held a remote in her hand to adjust volume song by song. it seemed very military-ish - fine for some, but not my type. I like it when they sweat along with the rest of the class. And the only bit of motivation dished out came in the final minute, to encourage us to finish. This class moves fast, so that even the 'regulars' feel lost, as one told me after. the stretching barely lasts 2 seconds, not enough to do my body good. This Sunday morning class was crowded too; hard to focus when you're avoiding giving or receiving a foot in the face. As I mentioned, I tried a competitor class this morning that was just as hard, at a slower speed, and a lot more fun, so that's where I'll be becoming a member. read more

This review is long overdue but I've just been too busy tucking and shaking at Pure Barre. I have been attending classes for about 6 weeks and cannot imagine a better workout or group of women. I signed up for 5 classes after taking a free class at LuLuLemon last year. After having 3 babies in just over 2.5 years it was time for some lifting and leaning out. My first class was at 6am. When I checked in I was warmly greeted and given some information and a tour. Even having an outgoing personality, it's still intimidating walking into a new studio full of fit and beautiful women. Every age and size is represented and everyone had a smile on their face. After a bit of a learning curve trying to understand terminology I am truly impressed with the instructors. Their directions are spot on and I am able to get into position based solely on their verbal instruction. The instructor walks through the room giving hands on corrections to your form but never in a way that has made me feel singled out or embarrassed. They are extremely constructive with their advice and I finish a class truly believing they want me to succeed. After taking my 5 classes I had no doubt that I would buy a membership and attend as often as my traveling husband and 3 little boys would allow. Is it the cheapest workout in town? Probably not. However I think the workout I receive, the instruction, and the supportive atmosphere are worth every penny and so much more. I set a personal goal to hit 25 classes before the end of the year and 100 classes by April 30 when I leave for a family vacation in Maui and when discussing this goal with the instructor she was so positive and encouraging that it was one I could attain. As a former soccer player and lover of all HIIT workouts I never thought Pure Barre would so quickly become my happy place. It takes something truly special to get me out of bed at 5am in the snow, and I have found that at Pure Barre!! read more

I used to go, but the maximum occupancy was being abused. For $20 per class, I would expect to be able to extend my arms and legs and not touch other people. My friend and I have watched people leave for good because of this issue. The barre studio that I went to in Portland, for example, mandates a specific square footage for their studios, which are bigger than Pure Barre. They are strict on their occupancy maximums so clients are not being disrespected. The class will be crammed and there will be 2-3 instructors taking the class. ?? Other barre classes in town are half the price so I would expect to be given more thoughtful consideration with regard to client comfort. read more
