At the time of check out I noticed they had the wrong credit card billed to my room. I caught the mistake and supposedly corrected the issue then and there. Three days later received a call from the general manager assuring me everything had been fixed. Well it wasn't. The next month came and my billing statement for my credit card said not only my room but I also paid for someone else's room that night with a similar last name. I physically went down to "straighten " everything out again with general manager Jessica Clarke. She took no responsibility for the mess up on their end until I pushed the issue. I was told I was credited for the room I didn't stay in and that she would speak to the person responsible "if they still work there". With all the identity theft going on in the USA. I wouldn't trust this establishment anymore.

The problem is just the rooms. They've really gone downhill since the last time I stayed here and are in need of updating. The entire second floor reeks of an ungodly stench that I can't put my finger on. It's like a combination of curry and an indescribable musty funk. The smell in the room was even worse. The refrigerator and freezer both smell like rotten fish BIG TIME. That is usually a bacteria issue. The fridge needs to be replaced as it made a racket all night long. I almost had to unplug it so I could sleep. The ice maker was broken (not that I would've eaten any ice that came out of that maker) so there was no ice during my stay and they don't have an ice machine in the lobby or on any of the floors. I'll never be able to get this smell out of my mind. It's so damn bad. The WiFi was spotty, at best. My phone would connect to it and occasionally disconnect, but my laptop wouldn't connect to it at all. The scrub brush used for dishes was covered in black hair so that wasn't an option. The curtains are filthy with tons of stains of who knows what. The lamp next to the bed was broken. No skillets or pans, just one large pot to cook with. And around 4 a.m. the TV just turned on by itself, no channel, just a light glow of the screen that lit up the whole room. The remote wouldn't turn it off so I had to get up and unplug it from the wall. I remember when this place was built, it was so nice and clean, and well time has gone by and it's starting to become a bit run down. Of course, the rooms are fairly cheap, around $90 a night so I'm not expecting the world here but that funky fish smelling fridge killed my entire two day stay. The only saving grace was the bed was comfortable.

Wow, what a facility! Indoor hot tub, outdoor hot tub, indoor/outdoor pool, men's steam room, women's steam room, rain forest simulation chamber, kids play fountain/kinetic sculpture. The shallow end of the pool has a curtain of water that falls from the ceiling and various fountains/massage jets. For two guys on a multiweek construction project out of town, the aquatic center at Hampton Inn Wheeling was the best surprise either of us can remember lately. HIW had more to offer though. There was a shuttle service that took us to supper, brought us back when we called (and they showed up in about 7 minutes) later, we took the shuttle to the casino We both somehow beat the house for some decent loot. And we taken back to the hotel by the shuttle at two am Both drivers were exceptionally gracious and polite. This unassuming looking hotel hides spectacular accommodations and flawless hospitality. Apparently it actually is because there was a poster near the elevators that indicated that Hampton inn was voted the best in the world. It also won like a best hotel in West Virginia award also. Who knew? Right off the highway, restaurants literally basically just off the edge of the property including, and I would like to highlight, TACO BELL. Room was decently sized, about average. Beds were comfortable. TV was smaller than I have expected recently and I don't recall them having the option of connecting Netflix or any other streaming services which is nice, relying on what is on cable at that particular moment is a drag and I don't know how we did it for so long. Towels were plentiful. Shower was nice. Multiple mirrors arranged in just a way that your partner can watch you on the toilet from the bed if you leave the door open, as we discovered. I'll spare you the photos that were taken. Not a bad choice.

The rooms are quite tinny, with ceilings like a corporate office building. Our bed had a few stains on the bed skirt, which we looked past because that's not used when we sleep. When I went to go under the sheets, I noticed another stain. So, I called the front desk to ask for new bedding. The gentleman brought new bedding immediately and offered to make the bed, but we just undid and redid the bed ourselves. He let us know he would contact housekeeping to fully redo our bed the next day at 11am during check out time. We got back to our room late that next day at around 10pm, and our room was a we left it with no new bedding. But it was okay because we got new bedding the night before. But it would've been a kind gesture because of the stains on our bed. The mattress isn't bad in my opinion, we've slept well. The AC does not work, nor does the heater. But they provide heaters and fans upon request. The window doesn't open, so no fresh air. After one day, our room started to smell like cigarettes, which then led into our towels. I think that's mostly just the crowd that stays here. The sink is clogged and doesn't drain properly, but the water gets super hot which is nice. They do provide complimentary breakfast, but it was just some bagels and pastries and cereal. The milk tasted rotten. I always try to see the positive in the negative, so I always give grace. I wouldn't tell you to absolutely not stay here, but just have low expectations. The staff being nice is what makes the stay not so bad. Plus I maybe there isn't much more to expect from a small town. I would say it is very expensive for what it is.

It is a Chiller/Boiler system that can only supply heat or cold air at a time. When I checked the outside temperature, it was 75 degrees. My room was 79 to 80 degrees, and there were no windows to open to allow cool air to enter. When I asked the front desk clerk about this, she said the chiller/boiler was on heat and she could do nothing about it. She said she would try to find a fan for the room, so I asked to see the manager. She informed me they were on vacation. The chiller/boiler was on heat, and she could do nothing about it. I told her I wanted to check out because the room was unsatisfactory, and I wanted a refund of the charge for the room. She explained she could not issue a refund; only the manager could. After several hours of calling "HOTEL*BOOK ONLINE and my credit card company, I was issued a refund minus the fee that the booking company takes and a cancellation fee of one night's stay. This was not acceptable but may have been the best at the time. Check the weather before you book as the Chiller/Boiler can only do one thing at a time. Provide heat or cool air not both. I would not stay here.

I called around the 1dt week in April to book 2 rooms for one night from May 3nd to May 3rd. Before I hung up, I asked, after I have them my Credit/Debit card numbers , just to be sure , when they would use them to take money out of my account. They boldly lied to me and told me only when you check in. As soon as I hung up, I realized that we needed 2 nights, so I called to book another night. Thus, the 2 bookings. Later in the day, I discovered that all of the money had been taken from my account. I discussed this with my family(fellow travelers) . Because of this, we decided to cancel our booking. We checked their website where it said we had 24 hours to cancel a booking. When we tried , we were told that , they would cancel the booking, but the money was NON REFUNDABLE, because I had a contract where I had agreed to it upon booking the room. This is a week before the May. 2nd ETA. After throwing a fit and assuring them I had agreed to noo such thing, they agreed to return my money, but told me that I would have to "apply" for the refund. ,which I did. I just now got my money back. 38.31 short of what I paid them.
