But it took us by a food stand where we purchased some food to take to our hotel which was still 10 miles away. It was going on 7:30 pm so it was helpful to grab the food and crash at The hotel. Little did we know that there was a small strip mall anchored with a grocery store across the street from the hotel. But grabbing the carne food was a treat. I was surprised when I walked into the lobby as it was bright and welcoming. From the reviews I was expecting an older model. We have just spent 16 nights in hotels and this one was pretty good in comparison. The front desk clerk was engaging when we checked in. Our room had an updated bathroom with a walk in shower and higher toilets. Something a few of the others were lacking. I have an injured knee and hip so this is welcomed. The king size suite was roomy. It was a bit warm in the room but my husband figured out "the system" and I was cold waking up. One of the hardest sleeps I've had in a few days. Breakfast was the usual for these hotels. My husband went down for a breakfast of biscuits and gravy, sausage and scrambled eggs. He remarked that they had Captain Crunch-a cereal he hasn't seen in years. We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel.

Once inside we were happy to see a welcoming decor and it was immaculately clean. Our tour found a journal of past guest experiences. I sat and read many of them. Several guest were there for the same reason we were, to escape from the stressors of life and relax. We found ourselves laughing at us, city people, trying to remember how to build a campfire without starter logs. We could have been our own comedy sketch. But, we did get enough of a fire to make s'mores and enjoy our own company. Between sitting on the porch rocking, drinking wine to (me) singing with nature before sitting and listening; playing cards at the kitchen table like old men talking mess; talking in front of the fire; and relaxing in the jacuzzi this was a perfect birthday gift. The bed is very low to the floor, but comfortable. During a night rain storm we slept like babies. Our last 15 minutes before checkout was spent sitting on the porch, rocking in the chairs, listening to the rain. We are looking forward to coming back and renting both cabins with friends/family. This was a bucket list item. Stay in a log cabin in the woods!

Not the…read morenicest HIX I've stayed at but definitely better than most and their weeknight rate was very affordable. Front desk staff was very friendly and fast. The room was smallish but clean and well lit, the beds comfortable (new?) and towels were nice and soft. The bathroom showed a little age and could have used a brighter bulb but the shower is good for tall folks like me. Bathroom is "split" with the shower & commode in a powder room and the sink outside. Good for couples - one can brush teeth and put on makeup while other showers. Climate control worked well as did the TV remote which had a sleep timer (I like this feature). The room also had a Keurig, a microwave, and a good sized refrigerator. Pool was out of service this visit but that wasn't a problem for me. It looks like the pool is also equipped with a way to get wheelchair folks down into the pool - very thoughtful touch. Their workout room is small (they all are) but clean and the equip all worked good Breakfast was standard fare for HIX - breakfast room was a little bigger than some others I've seen so that was nice. The attendant was working hard to make sure everyone had what they needed and the tables and serving areas were I wouldn't give this hotel five stars - probably four and a half but yelp doesn't let me do that so I'll rate it four stars PLUS. It is mediocre at best and certainly not worth the $500+ dollars for 3 and a half days.

I physically went down to "straighten " everything out again with general manager Jessica Clarke. She took no responsibility for the mess up on their end until I pushed the issue. I was told I was credited for the room I didn't stay in and that she would speak to the person responsible "if they still work there". With all the identity theft going on in the USA. I wouldn't trust this establishment anymore.

That is usually a bacteria issue. The fridge needs to be replaced as it made a racket all night long. I almost had to unplug it so I could sleep. The ice maker was broken (not that I would've eaten any ice that came out of that maker) so there was no ice during my stay and they don't have an ice machine in the lobby or on any of the floors. I'll never be able to get this smell out of my mind. It's so damn bad. The WiFi was spotty, at best. My phone would connect to it and occasionally disconnect, but my laptop wouldn't connect to it at all. The scrub brush used for dishes was covered in black hair so that wasn't an option. The curtains are filthy with tons of stains of who knows what. The lamp next to the bed was broken. No skillets or pans, just one large pot to cook with. And around 4 a.m. the TV just turned on by itself, no channel, just a light glow of the screen that lit up the whole room. The remote wouldn't turn it off so I had to get up and unplug it from the wall. I remember when this place was built, it was so nice and clean, and well time has gone by and it's starting to become a bit run down. Of course, the rooms are fairly cheap, around $90 a night so I'm not expecting the world here but that funky fish smelling fridge killed my entire two day stay. The only saving grace was the bed was comfortable.

There weren't a ton of people there so it was quiet. We stayed on the third floor and there was an ice machine and snack machine on our floor. There were water bottles in the gym, which was cool. I also needed butter during my stay and one of the ladies at the counter went and got some for me. Overall it was a decent experience but honestly if I went back to the area I'd book at Candlewood Suites a mile down the road.

Main floor had a very strong chlorine smell that permeated all way up to our third floor room. The hallways had a "wet " smell. Over all the room was clean but "damp" . No hand soap in the bathroom. Used the almost empty bottle of bottle wash so I didn't make a big deal about it. Also only one wash cloth. They have breakfast from 7-10 on the weekends, a pool and workout room. Not impressed but wasn't mortified either.
