Once inside we were happy to see a welcoming decor and it was immaculately clean. Our tour found a journal of past guest experiences. I sat and read many of them. Several guest were there for the same reason we were, to escape from the stressors of life and relax. We found ourselves laughing at us, city people, trying to remember how to build a campfire without starter logs. We could have been our own comedy sketch. But, we did get enough of a fire to make s'mores and enjoy our own company. Between sitting on the porch rocking, drinking wine to (me) singing with nature before sitting and listening; playing cards at the kitchen table like old men talking mess; talking in front of the fire; and relaxing in the jacuzzi this was a perfect birthday gift. The bed is very low to the floor, but comfortable. During a night rain storm we slept like babies. Our last 15 minutes before checkout was spent sitting on the porch, rocking in the chairs, listening to the rain. We are looking forward to coming back and renting both cabins with friends/family. This was a bucket list item. Stay in a log cabin in the woods!

This past weekend was perfect weather wise. Upper 70's with 60's at night. The only negative with that was it was almost too cold to swim. The water in the pool was freezing cold. We tried to stay in as long as we could but it was sharp. The big slide wasn't working properly so that was kind of a bummer. Great all around staff. You have a special thing with Ranger Dan. He's a great worker, great customer service and always driving around saying hello and checking in. Saw him numerous times and each time was always a friendly gesture and conversation. Kept us up to date with the activities, along with the piece of paper. Putt putt was a great clean course. Kind of challenging. Didn't use majority of the playground amenities but they have a ton and it's in a great big area. The ice cream stand had Hershey's ice cream and UNBELIEVABLE Root Beer. The pizza we tried was pretty good as well. The bathrooms were cleaned daily and nice. The only negatives I could give besides cold pool ( nothing to do about that ) is the water is Well water so it had the sulphur smell so brushing and showering had an odor. The activities were plentiful, always had a big calendar or events and theme weekends. The activities they had planned just seemed lackluster and rushed. Younger staff doing many of the skits, seemed half assed and rushed it not a ton of thought into the activity. We never really saw any of the Bears walking around but we would hear that they were out and about. We raised our family at Jellystone so this will always have a symbolic and nostalgic feel. We will still definitely always come back. Overall a good weekend. 8.0 out of 10

They literally would make things better by saying we need to bring clear bags so they can make sure we aren't bringing in glass or alcohol. I appreciate the rules but I'm an adult and I don't need some 16 year old ruining everything I packed. Secondly they got rid of the obstacle course in lieu of a diving board. The pool itself needs some repair. The way the bottom is, it makes the water look dirty. The water actually was full of bugs and leaves. The pool is small for 19.00 per person. It's a fine place to cool off but overall it has changed to only accommodate young children and older teens will more than likely not be impressed.

But don't let the exterior fool you. This is a very solid deal! When I went to check in the man at the front desk was very friendly. Very helpful to give suggestions, places to eat, etc. And they even give you a cool little welcome bag with water and some snacks! That was a nice treat. The accommodations were comfortable, clean and bonus points. I could park my car right in front of the room. Bottom line? I would definitely stay here again. This is the best value in the area, and is centrally located at within a few miles of downtown

Most of the damage is cosmetic which I can overlook but when it comes to cleanliness I do think they could do a whole lot better in the bathroom. Staff were friendly which is nice and coffee is available 24/7 and it was good.

The rooms are quite tinny, with ceilings like a corporate office building. Our bed had a few stains on the bed skirt, which we looked past because that's not used when we sleep. When I went to go under the sheets, I noticed another stain. So, I called the front desk to ask for new bedding. The gentleman brought new bedding immediately and offered to make the bed, but we just undid and redid the bed ourselves. He let us know he would contact housekeeping to fully redo our bed the next day at 11am during check out time. We got back to our room late that next day at around 10pm, and our room was a we left it with no new bedding. But it was okay because we got new bedding the night before. But it would've been a kind gesture because of the stains on our bed. The mattress isn't bad in my opinion, we've slept well. The AC does not work, nor does the heater. But they provide heaters and fans upon request. The window doesn't open, so no fresh air. After one day, our room started to smell like cigarettes, which then led into our towels. I think that's mostly just the crowd that stays here. The sink is clogged and doesn't drain properly, but the water gets super hot which is nice. They do provide complimentary breakfast, but it was just some bagels and pastries and cereal. The milk tasted rotten. I always try to see the positive in the negative, so I always give grace. I wouldn't tell you to absolutely not stay here, but just have low expectations. The staff being nice is what makes the stay not so bad. Plus I maybe there isn't much more to expect from a small town. I would say it is very expensive for what it is.

My room was 79 to 80 degrees, and there were no windows to open to allow cool air to enter. When I asked the front desk clerk about this, she said the chiller/boiler was on heat and she could do nothing about it. She said she would try to find a fan for the room, so I asked to see the manager. She informed me they were on vacation. The chiller/boiler was on heat, and she could do nothing about it. I told her I wanted to check out because the room was unsatisfactory, and I wanted a refund of the charge for the room. She explained she could not issue a refund; only the manager could. After several hours of calling "HOTEL*BOOK ONLINE and my credit card company, I was issued a refund minus the fee that the booking company takes and a cancellation fee of one night's stay. This was not acceptable but may have been the best at the time. Check the weather before you book as the Chiller/Boiler can only do one thing at a time. Provide heat or cool air not both. I would not stay here.

But on Mother's Day we got to see a lot of the rooms we never saw. And got to ask more questions and take our time a bit more. All around good experience. You want to see as many of the rooms as possible. Pro tip. If you are doing a house and garden tour leave the house thru the front door. This way you don't have to back track the gardens. Out the front door take a right to head along the back of the house and the gardens. Don't miss the greenhouse. The Japanese garden and the really all the gardens are beautiful. It's a nice walk. You can definitely get your steps in. It's a nice afternoon. We spent about 2.5 hours. Could have spent longer. But we were hungry. This was a good experience overall and fun afternoon.

Several years ago I found out that they have special tours at Christmas time where you can tour the house and each room has a different theme and you can also tour the grounds where they have Christmas light displays. I believe the tickets this past Christmas or $28 each which goes towards keeping up the estate and grounds. I feel like that's a fair price. There is so much to see in the estate and out on the grounds and I suggest coming here during the year as well for a regular tour. The Christmas decor is so beautiful each room in the estate is typically sponsored by a local business. It's so interesting to see some of the old furniture, dishes, light fixtures, truly whatever you can think of it's all so beautiful. They even have a greenhouse on the property where you can go to purchase plants, especially poinsettias for the Christmas season. They have a little concession stand where they sell things like hot chocolate, coffee, wine and beer, cookies, chili, soft pretzels, etc. Santa even stops by during certain hours where you can visit him. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to visit during the Christmas season and as a child I loved coming here during the year.

It is along a major highway so there is occasionally truck noise. The skies are blue. The air is fresh and crisp. And you might catch a whiff of honeysuckle nearby. There is a small local airport for private planes and in the summertime you might catch a biplane doing loop de loops in the sky. Peace and quiet is the recipe for this motel off the beaten path but still close to farmers who sell eggs and honey. Entertainment can be found to the west in Robertsville at the Hitchin' Post or to the east in MINERVA Ohio. You might even see a horse and buggy at the local grocery store.
