If you are expecting a spot up north that is cozy and has some charm, then this is the place! Our room was clean, had a queen bed, leather love seat, microwave, and mini fridge. The shower was nice but there is no door, meaning water gets on the bathroom floor and you need to place a towel. The tv reception was also going in and out during our stay. There is a large real fire place, breakfast and dinner spot (breakfast was very good!) free s'mores, games and DVD's and a small pool and hot tub(indoor) We truly enjoyed our stay!

A serious remodel and entirely new food and bev program is sorely needed here.

I can speak and offer opinions with particularity and knowledge about hospitality. Unfortunately, lately, service and attention to detail have declined significantly. Perhaps due to cutting corners and not giving travelers what they deserve. Remember, people look for that little corner that somehow makes them feel close to home. I was very surprised and delighted to find this place. I didn't expect such personalized, friendly, and professional service. When I checked into the condo, I was pleasantly surprised. Large, comfortable, well-appointed, and with very tasteful details in the decor. Very well thought out. The privacy of the unit (305B) is excellent. The kitchenware and utensils are of very high quality. But the most important thing is the cleanliness and hygiene. A very rare bird, or Rara Avis, to find. I hope they continue like this. Especially with the bedding and towels. I wish them the best. Just one detail. They should have at least one unit with a shower for disabled guests, not for me, but for other people. Thank you.

That said, the South Pier Inn was a remarkable surprise. To be fair, we sprung for one of the large rooms that was adjacent to the Aerial Lift Bridge. The room wasn't cheap, but there is nothing like looking at your window and seeing a thousand foot tanker sailing by a stone's throw away. Amazingly, the rooms are so well insulated from noise you could miss the whole thing. Fortunately, the hotel offers ship spotting calls, even in the wee hours of the morning so you don't miss a passing vessel (if that's your thing). The front desk staff was a textbook example of Minnesota nice. Such lovely people! And the simple continental breakfast (which I also usually hate) included wild rice cranberry bread made at an 80 year old institution. We even had the misfortune of booking a room when the small parking lot was being redone. However, the hotel managed that escapade very well, providing off site parking and a shuttle service to our car. It was such a treat to be able to walk over the bridge into the canal district, for a quick dinner without a drive, and to have such a well kept home base for our Minnesota adventure. Although there were wine glasses, there was no cork screw in the room. Although there are big candles in the bathroom there is no matches provided to light them. The s'mores kit we were provided had stale marshmallows. One of the bathroom sink bowls had some kind of unsightly chemical damage. In-room TV is small (20") and low quality. Refrigerator froze our milk solid. I'd be fine with the issues of this place, if the price was lower. For the price they are charging, none of these cons should exist.

In A Nutshell:…read more -Larsmont Cottages is a very nice place if you want to get away for a long weekend. -It's definitely "glamping" where you can either be a part-owner or rent. -Since I don't live in the area, we ended up renting a small room during 2018 Labor Day weekend. -Parking was always easy to find. -The location is off the beaten path & along the north shore of Lake Superior. -You can ask for a free smores kit at check-in & then use any of their awesome campfires along the lake. -They will light the fires for you & provide free wood to toss in. -The room we rented had comfortable queen-sized bed & private bathroom. -We even got a free bottle of champagne in ice & a personal message welcoming us. Overall, I would stay here again. I love Two Harbors and the entire area. It's much better than going to Lake Tahoe bc there's little to no traffic & Lake Superior is the biggest freshwater lake in America.

This Inn sparkles with cleanliness! I notice details like baseboards, corners and shelves. Each railcar is decorated in a different theme. We stayed in the newly appointed Lighthouse Room. The lamps were shaped like lighthouses, the room was tastefully decorated with Lighthouse pictures and memorabilia, and the hallway that connects each railcar was built reminiscent of a rail yard and train station. When I called to make the reservation. I actually spoke with one of the owners. Cindy. She was personable and friendly. She is the epitome of a fantastic bed& breakfast-type Innkeeper. We met her at the Inn and she was funny and very welcoming. The food was good. They had your typical fare offered at most hotels. The only reason they didn't get a 5 star rating from me is I feel like they could develop a "trademark item" with their breakfast to go with the theme as well. The location is perfect for a quiet weekend or even a Northshore vacation. It's nestled in the wilderness and just a very short ride to Lake Superior. I highly recommend this Inn if you would like to relive some locomotive history!

I would recommend stopping by Siskiwit Falls, which is very close to the B&B. Bruce and Sandy serve breakfast at 8:30 am. Everything is homemade using local ingredients. On the day we were there, they served a quiche with sausage and wild rice, apple spic muffins and fruit. One thing to know, they do not accept credit cards! We stayed in a pet friendly Lake Home Guest Room, and the room itself was nice. It had a queen bed, a twin bed, a small refrigerator, a microwave, and a big bathroom. One thing to note is that the entrance to the neighboring guest room is right next to your door. We were lucky the first night and had no neighbors, but the second night we did and my dog barked at every footstep she heard. Next time, out of respect for our neighbors (and to give our dog more space) we'd probably opt for a pet friendly cabin instead. One nice thing about the guestroom is that you do have a view of the lake. Unfortunately, the restaurant was just okay. We ordered takeout for both dinner and breakfast, and while it was fine, nothing really stood out. I was really looking forward to using the pool, hot tub, and sauna. Sadly, the pool was closed during our stay. The hot tub was open, but I couldn't figure out how to keep the bubbles on, which was a bit of a letdown. The lodge does seem to offer great amenities like bonfire pits and s'mores, which we were excited about. Unfortunately, they weren't out while we were there. I know these are weather dependent, but the weather didn't seem that bad while we were there. The staff were incredible, everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were nice and accommodating to any request we needed.
