A unique and comfortable place to stay. Close to state parks and 1/2 a mike from Lake Superior. I found my room to be extremely clean and bed comfortable. Loved the view of the woods from my window. Breakfast was fine and consisted of muffins, bagels, and yogurt, etc. I thought the variety of teas available was nice. The staff members are amazing, really the nicest people!! Loved the area so much. Already planning another trip.

For a weekend getaway north of Duluth, MN....treat yourself to a relaxing time here. It is one of the most unique places I have ever stayed. It is quaint and personable but still has everything you need. The breakfast is straight forward and gets your day started off right. The owners are very friendly and helpful. There was construction on the.major intersection leading to the inn so the owners not only sent an email but also called to make sure I was notified about the disruption and how to re-route around it. Very hospitable and enjoyable. Thanx for a memorable stay.

This rail car inn was the cutest little place! Perfect weekend getaway. You can't tell it's a train from the inside of the rooms but the hallways are fun to walk down. It's the perfect amount of space for two people. The showers were amazing and the whole inn was very homey. The beds were comfy but a little too soft for us - we prefer some firmness to our beds but that's just getting nit-picky. We had amazing sleep either way! :) My favorite part was being able to "rent" (borrow) DVD'S from the lobby to play in your room. There was a large selection! You could never get bored. They also had a ton of board games! This place would be perfect for kids but as adults we had a great time too, haha! Breakfast was simple - french toast, boiled eggs, yogurt, muffins etc. We grabbed a couple things for our trip back to the Cities and ended up trying breakfast at one of the local restaurants nearby. Can't wait to come back up north, we will definitely be staying here again!

Love this place, It's run beautifully. We have been here every year for the past 3 years, just gets better and better.

My now husband and I go here every year, it was our heat kept secret but they are gaining attention for their great service and unique rooms. Both family friendly and romantic. The full car suites have fireplaces and loving rooms with a bedroom. The half car suites are either a queen bed and chairs or a sleeper sofa with queen bed. We tell all our friends about this place

I returned from hiking up the North Shore my first (and only) night, ready to fall asleep and get up early the next morning for sunrise pics at Split Rock. The walls are thin, the floors creak, and doors slam shut. So from 8-around 1030, it was so noisy, then after that, I could hear conversations from the adjoining rooms. They weren't being "loud" the walls were just that thin. The bed was not very comfy. The sheets were scratchy. There was a single washcloth tucked up into the shower curtain ... clean? Not clean? I dunno. It stayed there. The access to parking coming from the North is a nightmare as the turning lane is also used by those accessing the left turn light and the lot is full of deep potholes that are hard to avoid. The driveway is also shared by McDonalds so it makes for a busy place. Customer service was good. Staff were friendly and courteous. Overall, just not worth the cost. Other places further up the North Shore were comparable in price, had more amenities, and were closer to many of the destinations.

This building is also connected internally by a second-story walkway. The staff was friendly as usual, and the always stocked popcorn, ice-cold tea and lemonade in the lobby, is always a treat. Unlike other of your experienced, when evening rolled around, there were fires lit at all three locations, including the one all the way down on the beach. I will say with this being the first time stay in the annex for me. That building in particular seems a little bit more outdated than others. Including some disrepair like a cracked window that was scotch taped back together. Between the really low counter and shower head there was some mild annoyance as well. The interior pool area is also in need of some maintenance. But the outdoor pool deck still feels amazing! Another slight draw back from this stay was the key card annoyance. Even though there is a promising NFC looking logo on the cards, these are still the old magstrip style that most hotels have moved away from. If you have a MagSafe equipped iPhone 12 from 2020 or newer and you place your keycard in the same pocket by mistake it will nuke your keycard on a heartbeat and you'll have to take a trip to the front desk to regain access to your room. Overall I've made some great memories here over the years and will continually plan to return.

Beds were rough -so no one got a good nights sleep. The air conditioner was not keeping up so my husband (HVAC) opened it to find a filter that was so full it wouldn't let the air through. He went to the front desk and asked for it to be cleaned. They bring us a new filter and my husband put it in. Very humid in the room. That night we did 's'mores on the beach' - I realize they were 'free' but the Graham crackers were stale. We did not eat at the property as it seemed a skosh high. For the price of two nights - $603 02 - I was expecting a little more Or a discount for the air conditioner inconvenience. The lady that checked us out was not as friendly as the original gals.. For a family weekend - it was a bust.

The jacuzzi tub was so nice after my morning workouts. The only small complaints I'd have is how hot the upstairs got especially the loft. Most of the windows did not open and only 1 of the 3 box fans worked. Also the dishwasher tended to make my dishes taste funny and smell like dirty dish rag. It may have been the all natural detergent they had. But over all loved it!!!! I also loved that we weren't bothered which is something that usually bugs me. The office answered promptly when I did have questions. They also allowed us to check in very late by placing our keys and such in a secure area.

Don't expect a/c, but, fans are supplied. 400 dollars a night I think deserves alittle more of these type of things. Maybe some of the other units are better as they are owned privately. This unit has real promise if they would spend a few bucks as they expect us to. Great location, access to the lake is easy, all in all not sure I'll be back at prime time, but you check it out for yourself, I'd recommend it at a lower price since up to 8 people can stay. The other plus is it is dog friendly. One caveat, bring a credit card, it's the only form of payment accepted. You might be up a creek without it. Or pack a tent. The staff is very friendly and overall the unit is clean. I would give 3 1/2 stars actually but for above mentioned items could be a 5!
