A northern mom and pop tavern/restaurant hidden in plain sight. Located off the expressway but accessible from the scenic highway. My mom had the Whitefish dinner and she loved it. It came with homemade fries, one cute little hush puppy, homemade coleslaw and a spicy homemade tarter. The server was super friendly and kind. My cheeseburger was typical, but good nonetheless. I will come back for the homey atmosphere and friendly people. read more

It's a great place to visit. But. I had the Lake Trout dinner. 3-4 ounces at best. I was hoping for a Lake Trout and ended up with a tiny fillet. Left hungry. I'm 69 years old, don't have a huge diet but please feed me so I don't have to go home and still cook. I ordered a Lake Trout not a blue gill. Six tiny bites. Charge +$20.00 and serve a real fish portion. Service was good n food was tasty. Two orders for me would have been adequate. Afraid to try Whitefish or Herring. Maybe just make it an appetizer. That's all I ate. A burger destination, used to be fish also. I appreciate the current struggles, Jack up the price, portions or be a burger joint. read more

0 stars. Used to love this place, but after Jen was let go the place has gone horribly down hill. I had the chicken bacon melt and the chicken was so dry I had to take a drink to choke it down. Same with the Cajun chicken sandwich. My niece had a burger that was way over done she had to drown it in ketchup to eat it. Her boyfriends coleslaw and a ton of liquid left in the cup and it was about the size of a sauce cup. Plus you only get maybe 10 fries with you meal. Stopped here with my brother's family my parents and our family, for a total of 12 people. They were excellent. Drinks and appetizers right away, our meal came out quickly after that, and it was delicious! Two awesome ladies that cooked our meals brought them out to us and thanked US for coming! This place was recommended by my husbands cousin. It definitely doesn't look like much on the outside and it's easy to miss but as the sign says it's a Hidden Gem referring their food. Heard their fish and chips were good and they definitely are. It's a big portion of cod fillet with icy comes with fries, 2 hush puppies, tarter and coleslaw for $9. Now I HATE coleslaw. But LOVED theirs. It didn't seem to be creamy or anything gross like that. This one had cranberries and even walnuts and almonds. Very tasty. My husband loves jalapeño poppers so we got those to start he really liked them. I tried one too. They were pretty darn good. He had the cheeseburger with fries lunch special for $6 his burger was juicy and even had the choice of onions for free. He got fried. It was really tasty too. I would definitely recommend this food. It's reasonably priced and our waitress was friendly and nice. The heater seemed to be broken that was my only concern with the atmosphere. It's definitely a small town bar feel. I think I have a new favorite place for fish & chips. The fish was moist and tender with just the right amount of breading. The fries were beer-battered and crispy. The house made tartar sauce was a delicious surprise, and they have floats with Dorothy Molter rootbeer! (If you know what that is then you know how awesome it is that they have it.) The atmosphere is basic northwoods dive, but everything was clean and the food far exceeded expectations based on the look of the place. They have a large deck area that looks like it seats quite a few. We sat inside because a member of our party is very sun-sensitive, but could still appreciate the great view of Lake Superior from there. As far as the service, I really can't judge since we were the only ones in there, but the two ladies who were working were very friendly. One of them brought out a sample of their bistro sauce to try and told us it was cod that we were eating because she refuses to change to pollock. The fish we had is the same they serve at their Friday fish fry, so I'm sure we'll be trying that at some point. Being from northern MN myself, I thought the atmosphere was fine, but I can see how some might find it less than pleasant. However, this IS northern MN, so get over it. Did I mention the fish & chips were only six bucks at lunch? We will definitely be back as they also have a hamburger and fries for four bucks at lunch. Definitely glad we stopped here instead of going down the road to Culver's. read more

The outside doesn't say much, but the interior of the rooms are very nice. The rooms are clean and you will be comfortable. The only reason I gave this place two stars is the way we were treated at the restaurant/ bar. The bartender was completely rude and uninterested in serving us and much more interested in closing the place and getting out of there to get her drink on. You can't count on what time the kitchen will close and what time the bar will close, so if you're out fishing you might as well stop somewhere else on the way back to this motel. No idea if the food is any good as we couldn't get any either night we stayed here, even though we called ahead to make sure the kitchen was still open on our way back. Bar closed at 11:00 on a Friday night leaving us high, dry and hungry to sit in our hot rooms. read more

A diamond in the rough! The Earthwood is a great little place just off the beaten path in Two Harbors. The menu reads like typical bar food, but the quality, taste and variety make it really special. If you love a great burger, don't miss the Ragin Cajun. The Alakan Cod is great, especially with their home made cole slaw. I am not going to lie and say it is a five star dining experience but I will compare the quality and service to be as equitable as any of the other typical burger joints of the north shore region. The burger was a decent quality meat that had a proper cook as well as well proportioned toppings and bun ratio. The regular fries could be best replace with the beer batter fries without the extra buck charge but prices overall are consistent with places such as Fitgers. I had the Cajun burger and my wife a bacon burger dressed cali style. Don't be scared of this dive joint it reminds me of a favorite from south of the twin cities, House of Coates. read more

Older hotel with a cute country feel. It looks as tough they did some recent remodels to the bathroom sinks. However, the edges around the window were an open gap to the outside, which let bugs in. The water also had a fowl smell when showering. The beds were comfortable and they offered two patio chairs to sit outside an relax. Parking is a bit tough with a truck and trailer, but we ended up being able to park right in front of our room. Friday nights pack quite a crowd at the restaurant which takes from the hotel parking. I love this place! The bartenders/waitresses are friendly and remember you each visit. The regular menu is $10 and up for burger baskets and steak bites are $14. During lunch hour they have an awesome lunch special...Cheeseburger basket for $6, Deep fried chicken sandwich $7, or fish and chips for $10. I get the chicken sandwich just about every time. They are "a hidden gem" as advertised.
