In a matter of moments I was reduced to a state of helplessness from what I imagined to be a hale and hearty, independent individual. I have undertaken the arduous process of returning to at least near "normal" whatever that means I thought that I understood the concept of patience and could differentiate between humiliation and humility. In that regard I was wrong. Recovery is taking much longer than I expected and at first I wrestled with humiliation vs humility. I'd like to think that I will emerge from this a more accepting and humble person. All that aside, this is a review of Courage Kenny Abbott Northwestern (formerly Sister Kenny Institute). Being hospital based, they can take more extreme cases than their Golden Valley counterpart. I think it is safe to say that when I arrived I was a wheelchair bound shadow of my former self. Among other things I had a feeding tube shoved up my nose and into my stomach (uggghhh). And I had a tracheotomy tube that precluded conventional communication (arrgghhh). Suffice it to say that I felt like a virtual train wreck. Never-the-less, the wonderful staff began the task of putting me back together. Not willing to risk omitting key people, I will not name specific individuals. Thanks to their efforts I was able to get rid of my feeding tube (yeah) and eventually return to an unrestricted diet. I also had the trach removed (what a relief) and could begin to talk again. Through collective effort and encouragement, I was able to get out of the wheelchair and walk for stretches with assistance and supervision. I simply cannot say enough good things about the people I met. I had a spacious private room. I was wheeled to a communal dining facility where eventually I was able to eat with relish. Both the Physical and Occupational Therapy spaces were well equipped. Speech Therapy was surprisingly difficult for me. But the PT, OT and Speech Therapists, Doctors , Nurses, PAs, Recreational Therapists and all others were in my estimation, top notch. All-in-all, to me if you are recovering from a serious condition this is an excellent stop on your way. Highly recommended.

My Physical Therapist was Jamie, she was smart, kind and informative. She had a great way with people and helping them understand the process, exercises, stretches and why it is important to pay attention to the details. You do not want to injure yourself, you must listen carefully and follow directions. Jamie was good at learning what you know about your condition /scenario so she can expand on that and not repeat the stuff that you know. These people all show kindness and compassion. People come to them for all kinds of reasons and by looking around the exercise room, you can see that they are true professionals. Highly recommend.

Terrible! They don't do their work. We as client had to do their work for them. Can never reach…read morethem either. Its's been a few months now and we hadn't gotten paid because our case manager did not do his work! No communications and no updates on anything even though we've made it clear to update us every time. It's so frustrating. Stay away from this place! They need to train their case worker better! Thank GOD for Dr. Schultz...he made certain I knew ALL the issues and problems that might arise...I lost count of the forms I signed... I'm older and kinda wish I still had it...but I just wanted to say that chronic pain forces people to look to everyone everywhere to make it stop. Primarily to see how I am and how they'll treat me. I've worked in ortho(did my internship at truama 1 hosp. HCMC) and this place should be shut down. Walk in, line, staff on the phone when pt need to get checked in... on crutches and wheel chairs. Nursing staff lied to me for the last time. I'll ask questions that ik the answer due to my medical background and they've bald face lied to suite their interests and pocket books. While coming out of sedation [young] Nursing staff pretty much pushed me out the door... -22°. I had to say " no I'm 63 and not waiting in the cold." I'm going to the good old U of M for care. By-EE

Staff are overwhelmed with the amount of work they are expected to do. The most competent staff by far is the PT and OT staff working in the building. They care for their patients beyond what the basics require. If not for them doing their best this would be a total failure of a business.

Staff do their best to build good relationships with every resident in their care, and it shows through their work. I have notified them by phone five times, I started keeping track of the phone calls after that. 5/8/18 left a message at 4:00, and 5/16/18 at 2:00pm. They have made promises to send me a corrected bill, and have yet to fallow through. I have sent them two certified letters, one on 6/1/18 to business manager Tanya Castillo and Gasna Akselrod NO RESPONSE! I have contacted The Better Business Bureau, they have sent three requests to Legacy Home Care and have not received a reply. Can you believe that?? My wife died April 2nd 2018, I've been asking for a refund for the services that were unused since the middle of April. I'm 84 years old, I receive less than $1200 a month in Social Security a month. The $170.00 is not anything they want to deal with, it's small change. Not to ME! It's 20% of my Social Security check! I've tried the State office which licenses Legacy Home Care, they do not offer help on billing issues. What do I do?
