Here we have a company that is unreliable and a master of the bait and switch game. Steve, disappeared in the midst of our bathroom renovations with 14000.00 in his pocket. He did not pay his contractors and therefore they would not return. We were told this would take all of ten days and here we were at 26 days, no workers,we no functional shower/ tub, sink or toilet! He contended he was ill and yet he was not the working force here, the contractors he hired were and the reality was he was not passing on these two down payments to them. Our recovery was to hire another and at a cost to us. 15 weeks after starting, with further loss of revenue we had a functional bathroom. We will be filing with the Rhode Island Board of Contractors on Ocean State General Contractors but for you my friends, DO NOT HIRE STEVE and do not hire Ocean State as you will be left holding the bag and the cost.

We signed a contract in April 2021 to COMPLETE by the end of July 2021. What we got was nothing but headaches and excuses for FOURTEEN months. Initially, we didn't think much of it when the deadline came and went but the litany of excuses started coming and never stopped. We gave the first 1/3 of the project as a deposit. When nothing had happened two months after deadline, we were somehow convinced to drop yet another 1/3 for materials. Fast forward to November, December more radio silence followed by excuses. We finally gave a hard deadline in January (which passed) and somehow, we allowed that to be pushed to early February for completion. Since we were told the project would be completed off site, we asked for photos. To this day, we never received any proof of any aspect of project completion. At this point, we asked for and were promised a full refund within 30 days- no sooner because of "industry standards." At the end of the 30 days, we received only half. Then the new litany of excuses for the remainder started coming. He eventually stopped responding. We had to file a complaint with the state. After a painful 3+ months later, an investigator was able to recoup the remaining amount. This was after we were promised a refund of a job we have no proof he did and 14 months after signing a contract with him. We are thankful we finally received our deposit back, but this was after no work was done and over a year of headaches.

If we could give them -5 stars we would especially for the stress and damage that was done. They are also protected by the LLC and our retribution had to come from the state which did not come anywhere near what we spent in the end.

We scheduled a time (about one week out) for him to drop by and check out the space. Upon inspection he agreed that it was about a 5-hour job and let us know that he was available THAT SAME SUNDAY for the work! Wahoo! Sunday: Bob arrives with his truck'o'tools and set up a work station (saws and whatnot) next to our condo building. He was SO friendly (even our easily frightened feline enjoyed his company!), and was a quiet worker (aside from the to be expected assembly noises). He completed the task in about FOUR hours, we exchanged payment and "thank you"s, and he was off! Our material & labor cost was $550 (~5hours labor, three slatted red cedar shelves 2'x2.75'). The end product is WONDERFUL and exactly what we had wanted! Expertly installed and very professional appearance (I almost felt bad to load them up with our storage items!). I would certainly recommend City Carpentry to anyone in the market for quality woodworking/carpentry results.
