I saw a FB post about the spare ribs and pork chops and decided that I'd get them for dinner. I stopped in to get some to go. The staff were friendly and the restaurant was inviting. My husband is eating so I asked him what he thought since this is our first time eating here. He says that these are the best ribs he's had in a long time. Then he eats the pork chop. He stops and says this is hands down the best he's ever had. We did not care for the potatoes. I'll have to try a different side for him next time. Brett's BBQ made Texas Monthly's 50 Best Barbecue list as well as the Houston Chronicle's Top 100 restaurants in 2022 list, and with good reason. Two of us stopped in at their brand-new Katy location today...this is, I understand, their soft-opening, and plenty more is forthcoming soon. Today we kept it simple with lean brisket, mac and cheese and potato salad. All of it was great (these are -good- sides). The brisket, though, was fabulous, and if you've lived in TX more than a minute, trust me when I say that I don't toss that out lightly. This is the real deal. (I'd rather have the rind and burnt ends than anything else and you can see there actually -is- a rind here, and all of it was flavorful.) Made a 1st visit to Brett's today with 2 friends and had a great experience. Our order consisted of 1lb of moist brisket, 1/3lb of lean brisket, 2 sausage links, and 2lbs of ribs. Sides for our order were beans, cilantro jalapeño slaw, and potato salad. After eating, we agreed we would rank the meats as 1/ribs, 2/brisket, and 3/sausage. All were very good, but we 3 kept going back on the ribs and brisket, but not so much on the sausage. For sides, we ranked them 1/slaw, 2/potato salad, and 3/beans. Slaw was great IMO, potato salad was good but we though it needed dill relish, and beans were more like chili with almost equal parts meat to beans. Service was fast and courteous, nothing special on ambiance. I'd recommend Brett's and wouldn't hesitate to make a return visit. read more

Probably one of the best BBQ spots I've been to in the Houston area. I think this place is relatively hidden amongst bigger names but it is one hell of a spot. The brisket literally melts in your mouth when you take a bite. The beef sausage is super tasty and juicy. Mac n cheese is on a whole different level, probably one of the best Mac n cheese I have ever ate. They ran out of Beef ribs which we were really hoping to try but will definitely come back to try it out. read more

Best BBQ I've ever had. And that's saying a lot. We talked with Brett and another woman, I didn't remember her name but she's the manager I think, for a while and they were super nice, explained the menu and how the BBQ is made, how they are trying to staff up to be open longer hours. The burnt ends were chefs kiss and I will be back for those beef cheek empanadas. Oh and that Mac n cheese was 10/10. 5 stars! I stopped in on a whim and ordered a fresh chopped beef sandwich (you need to be specific, or they will default to the potted stuff), potato salad, and a drink for $25. And, this is my hang up. The brisket was good quality and well smoked, the salad was mayo and bacon and good. I appreciated the Big Red. But, why are they asking for a tip on pre-paid counter service food. My name was called, I picked it up, I got my own drink, and they do not keep a condiment (pickles, onions,etc.) station. The meal was good but not $13 for a sandwich and $12 for side, drink, tax, and tip. Tipflation is an insult to the consumer, and I'm finished with it. I left feeling took, and it is this reason that I don't recommend Brett's or any place that expects a tip for the counter service of waged workers. read more

Walking in and half the menu was covered over only four main items are available. After moving to Katy from living in the loop, I hoped we could get some decent BBQ out here. Everyone told us that this was the place to go. Too bad, Brett's is just OK. The service was pretty good and they have a full bar. The ambiance was dive-bar'ish so we took our food to-go. Here's how it panned out: Brisket - Good. This is the only thing they have going there. Chicken - Bad. No seasoning. Skin was leathery. It was cooked enough to be done but not enough to taste good. Too chewy. Too pink on the inside. Tasted more like a barely done rotisserie chicken than a pit-smoked chicken. Pork ribs - Just OK. Not tender enough. They're not supposed to be "fall off the bone" like many people think; but these ribs were too chewy. Potato Salad - Bad. No seasoning. Needed salt, pepper, maybe a little sugar, some paprika, dry mustard or Old Bay seasoning and it will be ALOT better. Pinto Beans - Mediocre. Again, no seasoning. Mac & Cheese. Par. Holy Shite! I've been eating Texas BBQ for decades and have NEVER enjoyed brisket, ribs, sausage, or cole slaw like this! Perfectly barked. Juicy. Savory. Hot temp with a hint of spice. Firm. Moist brisket 9.5/10, only thing that prevented it from being perfect was it was somewhat bland and required added salt and a lot of it. Turkey 9/10; very tasty, needed salt Mac and cheese 7.5/10; tasty and cheesy, maybe too cheesy but still very good. Would of scored higher but both kids hated it Pulled pork 5/10; needed a lot and tasted boiled with next to zero smoke. Every pork shoulder / pulled pork I've ever made at home blows this away. Won't order again. Burnt ends 6.5/10; the covered and saturated in bbq sauce, didn't fit my taste/expectations for burnt ends; just about every good bbq place I have had them in the greater Houston area have been better; won't order again Bbq sauce: 2/10; didn't like it whatsoever and isn't anywhere near my cup of tea. I like tangy, unsweetened with a little bit of spice. This stuff was tomato'y and sweet. Some of the worst bbq sauce I've ever had. Ambiance / atmosphere: 8.5/10. Nice bar area and good bourbon selection. Bottom line: I will go back with the wife or by myself, but without kids as there are no food options for my kids. Ever since Cooper's closed, I have been in search of another chopped beef potato as good as theirs. When I came across multiple people claiming in a Facebook group that Brett's is the best bbq in the Katy area, I knew I had to try it. It was super busy during lunch on a Tuesday, but the wait was worth it. As soon as I took my first bite, I was hooked! A lot of BBQ joints around this city, and several that are much better than Brett's. Service--terrible. After charging me for an extra sausage link, I had to go back and request a refund. "Oh ok we'll take care of it." So I stand there and wait a bit. "Oh we'll get to it." Ok I'm a patient guy, I'll wait. Get through most of the meal, still nothing. I have to go back and ask. Oh we got busy, we'll take care of it. Ok...? Finish meal, still nothing. I then go back to speak to a different person at the counter (seemed like someone that might be in a supervisory role)...she acts completely put off. "I haven't had a chance to get to it. We usually do it at the end of the night." What?? So I say I need a copy of the refund. Now she's REALLY put off. "I'll just give you cash." Quickly jabs $8 at me. So at this point the service leaves a worse taste in my mouth than the food. Ambience--meh. Nothing spectacular, but it's not a hole either. Ambivalent on this one. Summary--won't be going back. ...and I won't be looking to Texas Monthly for restaurant recommendations anytime soon. read more

We showed up on a Wednesday about 10 minutes before the doors opened at 11 AM. There was about 4 people in front of us ,loved the short line. By the time we left the place was almost full. We thoroughly enjoyed a third of a pound of brisket which was full of flavor and super tender. We enjoyed a half pound of turkey, almost as good as the 5 star brisket. We snarfed a pound of stellar pork ribs. We found one type of BBQ sauce that was good but most places have more than one sauce....I need to remember this is their soft opening. They have a great selection of veggies, I asked for an assortment and got an assortment, fresh sliced onion, pickled onion, pickled carrots, pickled jalapeno slices, house made pickles...all very tasty. They went good with the 'Q and the cornbread casserole....another 5 star item. They offer sliced bread but we decided to cut some carbs. The new location is a lot bigger with plenty of parking. Really it's 2.5 stars. Brisket is tender but not much flavor - all bark - no bite. No visible smoke ring. Ribs were better. Sides are good. No pickles, onions & jalapeños ?? Didn't see any ? Wouldn't hurt. Cold sauce is a big turn off. I guess the giant plastic bottle of sauce is kept in the fridge at night so at lunch it's cold. All in all, it's just mid barbecue. This place is great!!! I think it's hard for BBQ restaurants to separate themselves from the competition but Brett's is in a class by itself. Besides traditional BBQ, they have great specials. I had the hot-honey pecan crusted ribs and they were out of this world! They aren't on the daily menu, but if they are a special the day you go you must try them. You won't be disappointed. Had in laws visiting so did large take out order. Everything was spot on with minor exception that the amount of bread (three slices) with nine punds of meat seems pretty small. HOWEVER everything we did receive was off the charts excellent and superseded the minor slip up. My fear that the new larger place would mean a possible decrease in service was wrong. If you liked the old Brett's shop, don't bother coming to this one. We had frequented Brett's old shop, and were extremely happy with the BBQ purchased. This is our first visit to his new shop. To say we are disappointed is an understatement. This shop is nothing like the old shop, not in the ethos nor the food. The old Brett could have become a cornerstone BBQ shop in Houston on part with Corkscrew, Black's, or Franklin's, now it's just another commercialized money grab. The magnificent beef ribs are no longer on the menu. Meat that we purchased: 1. 1LB Prime Brisket - it was flavorless and dry. for $33 /lb, it was probably some of the worst brisket I've had. 2. 1LB Pork belly charred ends - one piece wasn't too bad, had enough fat to flavor the dried meat, but several other pieces didn't have that fat, and was only left with hard dry meat. Never had this so I'm not sure what to expect 3. 1LB pork ribs - I didn't partake of any, but my wife wasn't satisfied with the ribs. This is probably our first and last visit to the new Brett's. It's a shame, we loved the BBQ from the old Brett's. Hard to understand why it took such a drastic turn. read more

Don't skip these sides and also don't be scared by their different slaw, it's amazing! The cons? The tea was not good. 1 star. I'm always shocked when a bbq joint has bad tea. I have to say I was not looking forward to the meal after sipping old tea on the verge of rank. Hopefully that was a one time thing.
