After the 30 minute drive, I get there and don't see it on the menu. As I get to the front I figure it'll be okay, I'll get something else if they don't have it but I'll double check cuz I know I saw it on their website just a few days ago. Disappointingly, it is confirmed that they don't have it. Without glancing at the menu I try to go for my standard two meat plate of brisket and ribs... Turns out you can't get ribs as part of the two meat plate. Okay, I don't need to eat that much food anyway, just brisket with mac and cheese and their cornbread casserole. It's a counter service barbecue place this should take about 2 minutes... But it doesn't. We go find a seat and we wait, and we wait, and they finally call us to pick up our food. I take a bite of the mac and cheese. Delicious! My disappointment starts to fade and I get excited about the rest. A fork full of cornbread casserole... It's all right. Tasty but not as exciting as the mac and cheese was. Now it's time for the brisket. It's very tender, well cooked, looks like a nice bark, but not much flavor. My food was so salty, my tongue went numb. There wasn't a flavor of seasonings. The flavor came from the grill and salt. We ordered 2 fountain drinks with our food and decided on sweet tea. It was just as big of a disappointment. Can't really speak on customer service because you order at the counter and they call you up to grab your food. The interaction with employees is limited so it would be unfair to say if the service is "good" or "bad." The young lady did her job, took out order and got it right so if we're gauging that, the service was average. It's a true BBQ vibe. Texas theme and all things rodeo/BBQ style. There is a full bar but we didn't partake. People from Texas may like it but we're from Mississippi so our expectation of BBQ is high and to eat the best of the best. The restaurant itself was quite inviting, with a clean and well-maintained indoor seating area and a convenient beer and cocktail bar right next door. The lean brisket had a solid salt and pepper bark with good flavor, but I found the meat itself to be a little chewy. The ribs were a bit inconsistent; some parts were flavorful, while others were a bit mushy and salty. The texture was uneven throughout. The sausage was a house-made, peppery link with a tight casing. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't my favorite offering. On a more positive note, the sides were a definite highlight. Our annual barbecue safari took us to 12 different barbecue joints in the Houston area in four days. Brett's was the best--so good that we had to come back and eat here again before catching our flight home. At each joint, we only order meat--brisket (moist), ribs (pork and beef), and sausage. All of the meats we tried at Brett's, along with the hamburger, which Brett recommended, were excellent. The staff, starting with Brett, is very friendly. read more

What I should have done is give to the Facebook page and waited until a day they were having one of their specials. Fajita night or the brisket queso nacho day sounds awesome. I went on a regular non special day though, so we got the smoked then fried brisket bites with the sauce and a one meat plate with Mac and cheese and a kids hamburger with fries. It was good. Every bite was packed with smoky, flavorful meat, slathered in their delicious BBQ sauce, with just the right amount of tang from the pickles and crunch from the onions. If you're looking for great bbq in Katy, do yourself the favor and go to Midway BBQ. That being said, let's start with service. She wasn't super warm and friendly but she wasn't rude either. She looked bored. No big deal. She started by letting us know they were out of sausage. It was a bummer but it happens. I asked for a two meat plate with chicken and brisket. They then told me they can't do chicken on the plates. You have to get it as a separate plate, 1/2 or whole. Fine. We got a one meat plate with brisket, potato salad and Mac and cheese. One half chicken with Mac and cheese and a waffle fries(Oh, the waffle part is extra by the way). A kids brisket burger and fries. When our food showed up. I couldn't believe it. $17 for ONE slice of DRY brisket. Mac and cheese that was just okay. And potato salad that looked like it was chewed for you(they were only about a 1/2 cup big). The portions are laughable. Nothing was seasoned well. Nothing was impressive. They didn't have pickles, onions or jalapeños. The sweet tea might as well have been unsweetened. They have picnic tables for seating and board games to play which was nice. No country music like most other bbq spots. It was quiet and awkward since we were the only ones in there besides one other family the whole time we were dining. The empty parking lot should have been our first red flag. I don't believe in being unreasonably harsh. There was just too much to overlook. BBQ isn't cheap but this place is definitely not worth what they're charging for it. I went to their previous location and this location is a big improvement. Thankfully parking is not going to be a problem here. Not sure why they are rated only a 3.5 currently, we shall find out. There was a small line of about 10 people in front of me.....when I arrived. It turned out to be a short wait...then ordered, and it was a short wait for the food too. I ordered the holy trinity for $45. I'm not sure this is exactly a deal by any means. You get 2 slices of brisket (about 1/3 lb, most of a sausage link (ends were cut off), and 2 pork ribs., also one small side and a plain baked potato. If you order all items from the holy trinity separately, ....you actually save $2, so they got me there. The meat was definitely the star of the show, with the brisket being moist and delicious, ribs were tender, juicy and falling off the bone, and sausage in my opinion was the best thing on the plate. I was able to sub the daily sausage special, piquin pepper and cheese sausage, for the regular with no extra charge. I still feel they may have given me the regular sausage, as I didn't see any cheese in this sausage. They also failed to give me the bread, pickles, onions and jalapeños it comes with. When I went to go ask for it....their immediate response was to question me and say well you need to ask for it. No, when the menu says it comes with it already, they need to give it to you on your plate. So they were out of line there! The sides were okay. I used my side from the holy trinity to try their cilantro jalapeno cole slaw. I also added a small Mac n cheese. The slaw was a nice refreshing cole slaw, only 2 problems, I didn't ever taste any jalapeno OR cilantro! Did they forget to use cilantro? Because it's pretty obvious in taste and smell when you add it to a dish. I did see diced jalapeno, but it was not spicy in the least, nor did i ever taste it. The Mac and cheese was in curled pasta and had some black pepper on it, sort of a modern take on mac and cheese. I would have preferred a traditional one with more cheddar cheese. The baked potato came with cheese, sour cream, and butter and was a little pricy at $10. I think Rudy's is around $7, for comparison....for same size. Overall. I enjoyed the new restaurant and the food, but I'm only giving them 3.5 stars for all the mishaps I experienced. read more

The sausage was very nice and only second to the brisket. Very tasty. I like not having to ask for a marbled or lean cut of brisket. You get a whole slice of actual brisket that has both. However, the rest was disappointing. When I saw the amount of ribs on the tray I was surprised and ready to dig in. But the ribs were so over done they were dry and black on top. What came to mind was Bucee's beef jerky on appearance. It was not jerky but the dry black pepper look and smell was not enjoyable. It wasn't burnt. Even covered in BBQ sauce it was too dry and picking meat off the bone to eat is never good sign for a rib. I think it just sat in a warmer or smoker too long. Lastly the sides. The potato salad was dry, very large chunks of potatoes. No real flavor stood out. The corn pudding must be an acquired taste. It was okay but not for me. I thought it would be great to try an old favorite. Overall, some judicious cleaning would not go amiss, but it is a BBQ joint. The lighting is also not great. Pretzel A+ Burnt ends B+ needed seasoning & NOT to be drenched in sauce I was sad I couldn't get a ground brisket burger but our party liked the brisket "burger". Despite dripping sauce, it did eat dry. B D------ Brisket & corn tacos. INEDIBLE. The amount of vinegar in that sauce is enough to make you sick. No one could finish them. You could not taste brisket or corn, just pure vinegar. Let me also say that cold corn from a can dumped on top of a few overcooked brisket pieces in a tortilla does not a taco make!! The bourbon pecan pie was mid. The cookies were good but salty! But no one could enjoy anything after those vinegar BOMBS. Sometimes when you get bigger you lose the attention to detail that made you great in the first place; I hope that is not the case here. We didn't feel it was a $40/pp experience. read more

My husband and I ordered a chopped beef sandwich and waffle fries and 2 iced teas. The BBQ was HORRIBLE. It was completely burnt and very greasy. It seemed they took the burnt, burnt ends and just chopped them up. We are extremely disappointed as we had gone to the old location several times and never had an issue. The owner strolled past our table and asked a table next to us, that had ordered a ton of food, how everything was. I had hoped he would ask us, but he did not. This was so bad that my husband actually threw up in the parking lot. I had recommended Bretts before but will never recommend it again. What a waste of money. Don't have any comments on the Customer Service, as you order up front and had to go up to ask for our food order. The sandwich came a few minutes later and then the waffle fries about 5 minutes later. The owner was sitting at the bar staring at his phone instead of interacting with all his customers, instead of just the ones that placed a big order. As I said before, no more Bretts for me. Visited another Top 50 joint today. It was a quiet rainy Friday afternoon (1/26/24) around 4pm. No line at all. Maybe 4 guests in the establishment. Decided to venture out from traditional bbq meat ordering. My wife got the smoked chicken, fried okra, caprese sausage (on special) and cornbread casserole. I went for their 9 napkin brisket burger (comes with tots) and fried mac and cheese balls. Btw they have an excellent bourbon selection at the bar. Some Bookers, all the top shelf Garrison Bros., Stagg, Weller 12 and Blantons STFB. And our bartender was awesome! So the smoked chicken looked amazing and smelled super smoky. Meat was nice and moist and had great flavor. The caprese sausage tasted like it should. I could taste the sun dried tomato and basil and it was super cheesy. It ate a bit on the dry side but for some reason I really liked it, had a tinge of jerky texture and I found myself really enjoying it. Pass on the fried okra it's not really special and it was under fried. My brisket burger did not need nine napkins (one was suffice). So look the patty seemed kinda dry and tough but it was nice and hot and the actual bite of the whole burger with the nicely toasted bun, cheese, and grilled onions ate really well. I finished the whole thing and with a smile on my face. Didn't need the tots. The mac and cheese balls did the job. Crispy on the outside, nice hot and creamy on the inside. We've been to this spot more times than I can count--and it's always a vibe. The Friday fajitas? Absolute game-changer. So good, we can't even enjoy fajitas anywhere else anymore. If Sarah's behind the bar, you're in for a treat--her cocktails are elite and always hit just right while you're watching the game. I can't remember the guy's name, but he's made me several drinks on the fly with little tweaks to the recipe that somehow always hit the spot. He knows his whiskey too--especially when it comes to mixing an old-fashioned or whiskey sour like a pro. And don't even get me started on the margaritas... they're chef's kiss--especially paired with the fajitas. My wife always gets at least two or three, and by the time we head home, we're relaxed and happy. Everyone here is friendly, and the bar is definitely where the magic happens. Only knock? It's not bigger--even though it's already huge! We've met the owner a few times--super chill guy with his heart in the right place. His second-in-command? Also incredible. She's been a generous hostess more than once--giving up her own seat at the bar so other couples could have a spot. You just don't see that kind of hospitality everywhere. Only downside? The beef burnt ends didn't quite do it for me. But the pork burnt ends? I've come back two or three times just for those, and I've easily ordered over 10 pounds. No regrets. Was excited to try this as it's always been closed when I'd pass. Was told the food was great. Ambiance and service were nice. The food however was extremely salty. We got two orders of brisket tacos, one without slaw. For sides we got the Mac n cheese and the cornbread casserole. I was unable to finish my second taco as my throat was overwhelmed. I had the slaw in my tacos. My friend agreed that their tacos were also super salty and they did not get the slaw. The cornbread casserole was great. Loved it. The cheese in the macaroni was extremely thick which made it less than desirable. Restaurant was clean, all employees were nice and talkative, but I unfortunately couldn't tolerate the sodium levels. For those that can, you might have a different opinion than mine so don't let that stop you from giving this place a try. If a BBQ joint ISN'T sold out of a few things by 6:30p on a Sunday... it's not a good sign. So... ribs, sausage and Turkey were sold out. Ended up getting brisket, burnt ends, chopped sandwich and and several sides and a brisket burger. I ordered the "9 Napkin Brisket burger." I honestly thought it would be a slab of brisket on a bun... but it was a ground burger patty... with grilled onions and cheese and all sorts of yum. It was $10 and came with tots. The brisket I had was juicy and tasty and the rub had the right spice kick. As you do as a bbq place... I sampled everything everyone had. The stand-out side was the cornbread casserole. It was like a creamed-corn bake. VERY tasty. The only "meh" items to me were the potato salad and Mac & cheese. They were ok.. but not on the same playing field as the rest. The restaurant itself was clean, nicely decorated with Austin City Limits Music Fest posters and the music wasn't too loud so we were able to have some good conversations. The manager checked on us and the staff actually remade and reserved a few things due to an onion allergy at the table (took care of it with a smile and were amazing). Highly recommend. They have no combo deal, like Midway does. $15 for an alacart Turkey sandwich was shocking. Midway gives you a lunch special (and many more) which is one meat sandwich with drink and side for only $13.95. If I had ordered that here it would be around $25 for LUNCH! Yikes. I'm understanding why there was ZERO lunch crowd. There's a term: read the room. Need to adjust lunch to bring affordable and the cost of a drink and side for this restaurant would be pennies. Went on a Saturday evening. Choose the HRW menu since they were sold out of a lot of stuff. HRW was a good value for the amount of food. Brisket enchiladas were amazing. The steak sandwich was OK. I think it could've had a little bit more seasoning on the actual steak and it was a little hard to eat. I thought it was going to be like sliced pieces of steak, but actually was a whole steak on a bun . If you're a barbecue lover, then you must try Brett's BBQ. This place has some of the best barbecue in the city. The meat is always perfectly cooked and tender and tasty! Never dry, perfectly moist! The only thing I don't order is their sauce but that's because I like sweet bbq sauce. Their sauce is Loved by my wife though so I know it's good, just not my preference. I'll bring some sauce from Rudy's next time. Their sides are also delicious and complement the main dish perfectly, especially the cornbread casserole! The new location is much larger than their previous one, which is great because now there's more room for dining. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it a great spot for a casual meal with friends or family. They have an outdoor patio which is good because it's a bit loud inside. But the real star of the show is their burnt ends. If you're lucky enough to visit on a Saturday, you'll be able to try these amazing little bites of heaven. They're smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. Trust me, you won't be able to stop eating them. One note: Don't sit at the table by the wall near the door outside. Ambiance 4/5 Service 2/5 Food 3/5 Finally! I got to try Brett's BBQ. I've been waiting for them to relocate and open the new shop for 4 months. They made the Houston top 100 restaurants and Texas top 50 BBQ joint. Upon entry there was already a line at 11:05 on Sunday. There was country music playing, typical western decor and a bar immediately in the right side. I waited about 10 minutes in line and ordered 1/2 of moist brisket, beef sausage and a side of corn bread casserole. I did not get a receipt but he asked for my name. They called Mike 3-4 times and it was super confusing! Nobody knew which Mikes food was ready. When I finally got my food, it looked great! The sausage was the best thing in my meal. However, I wish it was sliced. I guess I have to ask to slice the sausage when I order. The brisket was not cut correctly. It looks like they missed the FIRST CUT separating the point and the flat. I ordered moist brisket. My brisket had the point and the flat on it. MINUS POINTS BIG TIME! The brisket was tender and moist, but lacking salt. I wasn't able to eat it without bbq sauce, which the bbq sauce had a very strong black pepper taste. Big disappointment here. The corn bread casserole was decent. From entry to receiving my food it was about 20-25 minutes. Brett if you are reading this, please have more than 1 cashier to get your customers orders and seated quicker and have a better process in place for receiving the food.
