Going through divorce is kinda not easy at all specially if there's a 18 month old baby involved. Having that in mind I had already made my mind to try to resolve my divorce through mediation. And honestly Shana seemed to be very much geared towards mediation too. I switched from another attorney to Shana through a very good reference. The first red flag was when my previous attorney sent a release form and it took Shana and her team a few days to figure out that it was buried in their spam. It started little difficult to get through to Shana. I ended up responded by her other partners Kim and Donald. Again they are both amazing people and very competent. But the problem I have is that I was very clear and upfront with Shana at our first meeting that I wanted Shana to deal with my case even after she quoted me her rates nearly double of her other partners. And she said okay. After a few more phone calls I was stuck with an issue the my wife had switched my daughter's day care. And I had no idea where she was taking my daughter to. I asked Shana if she could check with wife's attorney about the contact info of my daughter's new day care and some tax docs that she had provide. During these discussions I also mentioned to Shana that if I could ask for interrogatories if wife too as her attorney has requested. Shana asked me if it's retaliatory then DON'T DO IT. Her advice really made sense. And she confirmed that she would email my wife's attorney regarding my concerns. We waited for my wife's attorney and when I did not get any response. I reached out to Shana again. This time I was responded by Kim and that was on March 18th, 2019. She did send an email to my wife's attorney on the same day regarding my concerns. No reply at all regarding this. I had called Shana again to help me fill out the interrogatories and I had an appointment with Donald to help me complete the interrogatories. Thanks for helping me out Donald, he really did a great job. During this 3-4 hour session with Donald I met Kim and I asked her if she has heard back from my wife's attorney? She said no and proposed that I should ask for interrogatories too and they will have to respond with in 30 days. Here's the problem when you are dealing with 2 or three partners and at the same time going through divorce dilemma. I was kinda getting conflicting advice from two partners of the same firm. On March 27th, 2019 I tried reaching out Shana and I was told that she's on a phone call. I was waiting for her call and received a call from Donald returning on Shana's behalf. I asked about any reply from my wife's attorney regarding my daughter's day care and my tax docs. I was told that there has been no response. So I asked Donald to please kindly ask Shana to give me a call. Didn't receive any call from her at all. But in fact I received an email from Donald confirming that my wife's attorney had responded to Kim's email on March 19th, 2019 with my tax docs and the day care contact information. And Donald claimed that Kim was busy and he was busy etc etc. now from March 01st till yesterday I was under the impression that my wife was deliberately holding on to my tax docs and my daughter's day care info to kinda frustrate me. I really got sold on the idea of asking her for interrogatories. I noticed that the email was Shana and Kim both. No one bothered forwarding it to me for literally 10 days. I haven't met my daughter since March 01st, so every single day matters. My personal tax return filling has been on hold for this doc which has been sitting in Shana's email just because she's busy. I would never recommend Shana or her firm under any circumstances to any one, not because they incompetent but they definitely are negligent.

I paid a $10,000 retainer to begin working with the firm. During the first couple of weeks, they repeatedly misspelled my name and there seemed to be confusion internally about who was responsible for different parts of my case. I had to follow up multiple times just to get basic things moving. Communication throughout the process was frustrating. Different members of the team appeared to have different understandings of what was happening in my case, and I often felt like I had to repeat information several times. I kept extremely organized documentation and provided everything they asked for, but progress still felt slow and disorganized. Another issue was how communication was handled from a billing standpoint. Many emails came back filled with legal jargon that was difficult to understand, which meant I had to reply asking for clarification. Each of those back-and-forth responses was billed time. When we eventually went to court, I was disappointed with how the hearing went and how unprepared my attorney appeared. Afterward I was told the outcome wasn't what they expected. That particular process alone cost around $6,000. By the time everything was finished, about $20,000 had been billed and my situation was actually worse than when I started. My advice to anyone considering this firm would be to ask very detailed questions about communication, preparation, and expected costs before signing a retainer.

This is all still the same, poor…read morerepresentation, unprepared your during mediation, causing me to lose hundreds of thousands of dollars in my divorce. I was never even told to file for alimony or child support and I filed in July 2020, when asking for food stamps and on unemployment. She never even explained that I couldn't ask for that money back. In mediation she was a deer in the headlights, letting the mediator dictate the decisions, she didn't even have my financial spreadsheet ready when the mediator asked for it. I am a survivor of both emotional and financial abuse, she knew this going into mediation. I was forced to comb through numbers and produce while flooded with PTSD. I was unable to calculate the numbers, and that should have been her job. I was re-victimized during mediation. When I wrote Karin and Melissa the next morning, explaining that I needed them to be my voice, asking them why they froze up and why they let Cheryll the mediator dictate the decisions, and told them they didn't consider the mortage owed on my home, only the equity. They didn't even confirm the numbers used in his bank statement were not correct. Their firm is clearly not prepared for complex asset divorce, or dealing with women from domestic abuse and financial abuse. This has been a complete nightmare. I only ask for what is fair, and now I walk away with nothing but child support that can be overturned at any time. I hope no one else goes through this nightmare. I signed a CR2A after being coached by her and the mediator that I could stand to lose $100-$200,000. The next day in the morning with no distractions, and a calm place I look at the spreadsheet used in mediation and I see over a six-figure errors in their calculations that the decisions were based on. It was her job to oversee the financials, and understand how to litigate finances. It was her job to know divorce law, but instead she was quiet and let the mediator dictate. I asked her why the next day I said why didn't you advocate for me why were you sitting there silent, she said "oh well Cheryl's been doing this for so many years so I let her do it" she should have prepared me for mediation, it was her job to be my advocate when I was in the most vulnerable place possible. I was nervous as we lead up to mediation, she sent me and asked me questions literally for financials again after I already sent them to her only three days before mediation. I was expected to come up and produce during mediation, and it was the one day I really needed an advocate, I needed somebody who knew divorce law. It was clear she didn't as she sat there saying nothing. In mediation I asked her and her assistant Melissa, "please help me." Here I am scrambling for numbers when it was their responsibility to have the numbers prepared and have grit behind their global offer. It was a complete nightmare and still is. At this point I need help and going to the state bar to report the negligence and gross mathematical errors in the spreadsheet. She actually asked my exes attorney during mediation to update the spreadsheet's. She didn't even cross check the numbers? The experience was surreal, and it was a nightmare. It is still an ongoing nightmare because now I have to overturn what's been done. I am now seeking an attorney to take my case and overturn what has been done, and make this right. When I wrote her The next morning and to understand how she came up with the number so I could have a peace of mind, she used victim blaming. I will update this review again as I have submitted the glaring errors on the spreadsheet to her and the mediator Cheryll and have asked them to make this right. At this point I'm going to have to report her, sue her for what I paid her, fire her and then seek another attorney. This is the last thing I need as I am a single working mother. I could've got spousal support and child support this whole time yet she didn't advise me, and led me to believe I could have got it when I went to mediation. She did not explain that was something that I could never get back. She knew my fears going up against my husband. She knew the financial abuse that had gone on for years. She knew my emotions around this and that I was scared even to be at the mediation. No woman should put their trust in her for legal advice. Somehow someway I hope that I can overturn this, and get what's fair. I never asked for more than what's fair, and unfortunately I'm walking out with nothing.
